Einige Kilometer außerhalb von Vejer de la Frontera liegt das 2001 eröffnete Freilichtmuseum. Ein Kombination aus schöner Landschaft und moderner Kunst. In dem Skulpturenpark, der sich über 30 Hektar Pinienwald erstreckt gibt es zahlreiche Arbeiten internationaler Künstler zu sehen. Die ausgestellten Werke wurden bzw. werden alle vor Ort angefertigt. Ein festes Schuhwerk ist Grundvoraussetzung um die Umgebung und die Kunstwerke geniessen zu können.

Von Jerez aus haben wir auch in diesem Jahr einen Ausflug nach Càdiz gemacht. Von El Puerto de Santa Maria ging es mit dem Katamaran auf die knapp halbstündige Fahrt. Empfehlenswert ist auch die Fahrt mit dem kleinen Boot Adriano III, dessen Anlegestelle direkt in der Nähe ist. Die Überfahrt dauert dann etwas länger, ist aber auch stimmungsvoller.

Neben den Pferden interessierte uns Jerez natürlich am meisten der Sherry. Da wir bei unserem letzten Aufenthalt in der Stadt die große Bodega “González Byass” besichtigt haben – und dort auch unsere Vorliebe für den Sherry entdeckten -wollten wir bei unserem diesjährigen Aufenthalt eine kleine Bodega besuchen. Vorab hatten wir uns bereits für “Lustau” entschieden und einen Termin für einen Rundgang inklusive Verköstigung gebucht.

Vor Ort wurden wir namentlich (!) begrüßt und hatten fast eine Privatführung. Mit nur 4 Personen war diese Führung sehr persönlich und informativ. Zum Abschluß stand natürlich eine Verköstigung auf dem Programm und auch hier war man seitens Lustau nicht geizig. Alles was Lustau herstellt konnte auch probiert werden inklusive Essig und Brandy. Natürlich haben wir die Bodega nicht mit leeren Händen wieder verlassen Sehr zu unserer Freude haben wir festgestellt, dass ein Weingroßhandel in unserer Nähe diverse Lustau Sherrys anbietet. Sehr zu empfehlen sind Fino und Cream. Besonders zu erwähnen ist hier nochmal der 30-jährige Brandy, der durch ein besonders weiches und mildes Aroma besticht.

Hier noch zwei abendliche Eindrücke der Kathedrale von Jerez:

Endlich geht es weiter mit den Bildern unserer Andalusienreise. Nach Ronda lag Jerez de la Frontera auf unserer Route. In Jerez selber stand nur ein Bodegabesuch und das Gestüt Yeguada de la Cartuja auf unserem Programm. Bei unserem Aufenthalt in Jerez vor zwei Jahren hatten wir die Königliche Reitschule besucht und waren von dem Vormittagsprogramm relativ enttäuscht. Da uns jedoch der Besuch des Gestütes der Kartäuserpferde "Cartujanos" empfohlen wurde, machten wir uns am Samstag auf den Weg. Das Gestüt liegt vor den Toren von Jerez, ganz in der Nähe des Klosters, in dem im 15. Jahrhundert die Zucht begründet wurde. Das Gelände auf dem das Kloster steht ist ebenfalls zu besichtigen und auf jeden Fall einen kurzen Zwischenstop wert.

Die Besichtigung des Gestütes war traumhaft. Es gab zuerst eine Führung, bei der man auch selber an die Pferde in ihren Boxen herangeführt wurde. Es gab viel ausführliche Erklärungen und auch ein Blick in die gestütseigene Klinik gehört mit zum Rundgang. Danach gab es in der angegliederten Halle eine ca. einstündige Vorführung. Wir hatten das Glück, dass genau an diesem Tag die diesjährigen Fohlen das erste Mal der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt wurden. Alleine dafür hätte sich der Besuch schon gelohnt. Für mich sicherlich einer der Höhepunkte unserer Reise. Zum Abschluß gab es noch einen Tio Pepe bevor es in den Souvenirladen ging. Selbst nach Abschluß der Vorführung hatte man noch Gelegenheit die Pferde in den Boxen aufzusuchen.

Nach einem kurzen Stop an der "Milchbar"…..

….ging es dann wieder zurück auf die Wiesen des Gestütes.

Natürlich gab es außer unserem Hotel auch noch andere Sachen zu sehen. Ronda liegt auf einem Felsplateau und wird durch die Tajo Schlucht in zwei Teile gespalten. Alt- und Neustadt werden durch die “Puente Nuevo” verbunden, die sicherlich einer der Hauptanziehungspunkte Ronda ist. Ronda erkundet man am besten, in dem man sich einfach durch die Stadt treiben lässt. Vorbei an der Stierkampfarena geht man über die Brücke und landet in der Altstadt, deren kleine Gässchen einen Bummel wert sind.

Wer möchte genießt den Ausblick von der Puente Nueve nur von oben, viel schöner ist es aber dem Weg hinunter in die Schlucht zu folgen. Der Anblick von dort unten ist grandios und entschädigt für den Wiederaufstieg zur Stadt, der unsere Kondition auf eine harte Probe gestellt hat. Es ist empfehlenswert Getränke dabei zu haben, das hat uns unsere Erfahrung gelehrt und beim nächsten Mal sind wir schlauer.

Nach einem Tag und einer Nacht hieß es dann leider schon: Adios Ronda.

Dieses Jahr widmen wir unserer Andalusien Reise eine eigene Kategorie, da wir wieder so viele wunderbare Eindrücke gesammelt haben, die sich einfach nicht auf ein paar Bilder und Zeilen beschränken lassen.

Die eingestellten Beiträge erfolgen in der Reihenfolge in der wir unsere kleine Rundreise durchgeführt haben.

Geflogen sind wir nach Malaga, wo wir unseren Mietwagen in Empfang genommen haben. Vorbei an den Orten Torremolinos und Marbella, die wahrlich keine Schönheiten sind, ging es weiter landeinwärts zu unserer ersten Station: Ronda

Ronda haben wir bereits vor 2 Jahren für ein paar Stunden besucht und uns hat es dort so gut gefallen, dass wir dieses Mal eine Übernachtung eingeplant hatten. Als Unterkunft hatten wir das kleine Hotel Enfrente Arte -ein Tipp aus unserem Reiseführer- entschieden. Eine Wahl, die wir keine Sekunde bereut haben, dieses Hotel ist wirklich einmalig. Wie der Name schon sagt, trifft man überall auf Kunstgegenstände, ohne allerdings von diesen “erschlagen” zu werden. Die Zimmer sind alle in einer unterschiedlichen Thematik gestaltet, praktisch aber mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail.

Man kann gar nicht anders als sich direkt im Enfrent Arte wohl zu fühlen. Bei den Getränken herrscht Selbstbedienung, egal ob bei den zahlreichen Säften, Bier, Sherry, Weinen oder dem Kaffeevollautomaten. Zum Brunch kann sich jeder seine Lieblingsecke des Hotels aussuchen, denn einen festen Speiseraum gibt es nicht. Durch diese ungezwungen Atmosphäre fühlt man sich rundum wohl und wir haben es direkt bereut nur eine Nacht dort gebucht zu haben. Überall gibt es zahlreiche Möglichkeiten sich aufzuhalten: Im Bambusgarten, auf der Sonnenterrasse, im schattigen Innenhof, im Wintergarten, im “Unterhaltungsraum” mit Billardtisch, kostenlosem Internetzugang, Bibliothek und Popcornmaschine. Nach so viel Lobhudelei gibt es jetzt ein paar Eindrücke des Hotels:

Das Enfrente Arte wird uns mit 100%iger Sicherheit wiedersehen. Für uns eines der Hotels, in denen wir uns am wohlsten gefühlt haben.

We were recommended in 2008 this newly opened casa, which is really a design hotel.

If you check out the website, it really is exactly as beautiful as the photographs show. Casa Alborada only offers accommodation, each room is totally individual and really, really plush. For breakfast, you’re right in the centre of the village and just minutes from the 13km sandy beach.

Spanish at the Costa de la Luz – Conil is a village north of Tarifa/south of Cadiz. It has been discovered by the Germans and there are a few larger hotels, but not too bad if you avoid July/August.

The circle of wooden boats off Spain’s Atlantic coast gradually becomes smaller as the men of the almadraba – to the rhythmic sound of shouts and laughter – pull in the huge nets by hand. Suddenly, the surface of the water begins to turn white and within seconds it’s become a frothing, heaving mass of huge fish, their fins slicing through the water in a frenzied attempt to escape their fate.

On the boats, the operation shifts up a gear. To cries of “anda!” and “vamonos!”, the younger men leap into the thrashing pool to hook the fish and help haul them into the boats. The scene is charged with exhilaration and adrenalin as this centuries-old struggle of man against beast is acted out, the men battling for supremacy with fish perhaps triple their body weight.

And then it’s all over, the only sound the dull thud of tails on wooden decks as the fish flail hopelessly in their final throes.

The men of Barbate on the Costa de la Luz have been catching blue-fin (or red) tuna this way for around three thousand years. Very little has changed in that time; there’s no machinery, no hi-tech gadgets. Just a few simple wooden boats, a complicated system of nets and sheer brute force.

This is not to say that it’s a simple operation, however. In fact, the almadraba – based on a system designed by the Phoenicians – consists of a labyrinth of nets which stretch for several kilometres from the coast out to sea; as they migrate from the Atlantic to their spawning ground in the Mediterranean, the tuna are guided into the heart of the labyrinth. Divers are sent down periodically to check how many fish are in the innermost chamber, and it’s then that the levantá (literally the raising or lifting up) begins.

The beauty of the system – and the reason it’s lasted this long – is that it is completely sustainable. The mesh of the nets is big enough to allow the younger tuna to escape, enabling them to continue the life cycle and maintain stocks. As Ana Santos, marine biologist for the Almadraba Fish Products Organisation, points out: “There’s no way we would still be fishing tuna three thousand years later unless it was sustainable. There would be no fish left.”

But whilst the four almadrabas along the Cádiz coast – at Tarifa, Zahara de los Atunes, Barbate and Conil – continue with their traditional methods, all around them it has been a ‘get-rich-quick’ mayhem. Desperate to feed an insatiable Japanese market, big business has been deploying satellite-assisted dragnet trawlers and spotter planes to hoover up mature and immature stocks.

The result has been ever dwindling stocks, smaller fish and warnings from scientists that the Mediterranean tuna population may never recover. The figures speak for themselves. The past decade has seen the total almadraba catch almost halve from 15,000 in 1997 to 8,000 in 2007 – and that was considered a good year. And it’s all a very long way from the glory days of the old almadraba at Sancti Petri with three levantás a day and a total haul of 70,000 tuna.

All hopes now rest on a new plan by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). This includes smaller quotas; reducing the minimum catch from 10kg to 30kg in a bid to ensure the fish complete their reproductive cycle; banning the use of spotter planes by big trawlers; and regular inspections to ensure the rules are being complied with.

But conservationists remain to be convinced. WWF/Adena spokesman Raul García says the real problem is that the industry is driven by a market “which in many countries is run by mafias.” The conservation group would rather see a complete ban on fishing for atún rojo in order to prevent its extinction – with the almadraba the sole exception to the ban. “They barely account for one per cent of the total amount of tuna caught,” he says, “and they are also an important way of monitoring the species. For scientific reasons alone we should guarantee the future of the almadraba.”

Not one of the tuna caught in the nets off Barbate reaches dry land on the Costa de la Luz. Every fish is taken directly to a Japanese boat that is permanently moored in the port during the season from April until mid-June, and from there they are taken to market in Tokyo.

The demand for atún rojo and almadraba tuna in particular is enormous, not just in Japan but in restaurants throughout Europe as well. Considered the pata negra of the sea, the tuna is marketed as an artesan product.

“This ancient practice is less an industry than an art,” says Ana Santos of the Alamadraba Fish Products Organisation. “Almadraba tuna has its own quality certificate. This is food from the wild, it’s of the highest quality and the animals have suffered very little stress. Within an hour of being caught, the tuna is processed and ready to go. You can’t get much fresher than that.”

Back on land, I’m among a group of journalists taken to see a tuna being cut up into its constituent parts. In the Frialba processing plant in Barbate port, a 240kg tuna bought for around 3,000 euros is hauled in. A chain saw is used to top and tail it, and then the fish is cut up by hand. The ronqueo, as it’s known, is an art in itself; within a short space of time, the dark red meat has been cleanly cut into different sections.  

It’s unlikely that a group of journalists in Britain would ever be taken to see an animal being butchered, consumers there on the whole preferring to remain as removed as possible from the whole messy side of production. Here, it’s a measure of the pride they take in this totally natural product from the sea.

From Frialba, the tuna meat will be sold to local, national and international restaurants. Some will go to Barbate firms like Salpesca which make the famous smoked and dried tuna delicacies such as mojama.

And in the restaurants, the chefs will vie to outdo each other with innovative tuna dishes. El Campero in Barbate, for example, offers up atún with a Japanese flavour – raw sushi-style dishes served with rice pasta and soya sauce. Elsewhere, more traditional dishes like atún encebollado live on, and towns like Conil organise a week-long Ruta del Atún where visitors and locals alike can enjoy a gastro tour of local restaurants specialising in different tuna dishes.

In Barbate, there are plans to turn its almadraba fishing heritage into a tourist attraction, with a visitors’ centre and even boat trips to see the fishermen at work. But for the 600 families along the Cádiz coastline who depend on the almadraba, it’s about more than just a quaint old custom. They’ll be hoping that their famous atunes rojos won’t just end up a faded photograph on the walls of a museum.

Vejer is a real “Spanish” town – it gets quite a few visitors in the summer but outside of this period it is fairly quiet.  Even in the height of summer you can always find a table in a bar or restaurant.  There are a number of local restaurants that are open all year round catering for the local people as well as tourists and they generally offer very good value.

The town itself is about 9km from the coast and is 200 metres above sea level offering great views to the coast and the surrounding countryside.

The town  is quite compact and you can walk from one side to the other quite easily – you certainly wouldn’t want to drive in the old town”  Done it once and I have no intention of doing it again.   From our house to the old town is only about a 10 minutes pleasant walk – makes having a glass or two of vino possible without the arguement over who is driving that we have in the UK! Also means you can work a few calories off on the way back!

If you have never been to this part of Spain you are really missing something.  The local beaches are fantastic and totally unspoilt – you won’t find a high rise anywhere!

Montenmedio Sunshine Tour: 3 February-18 March 2009

Every year in February and March there is an annual pilgrimage when top riders, horses and trainers from all over Europe descend on the Costa De La Luz, and spend a few weeks at Montenmedio and partake in the Sunshine Tour.

This is a famous event comprising international dressage and show jumping events hosted at the Montenmedio arena. Built in 2002 this perfect venue is a vast structure covering 15,600 square metres. The covered area provides the ideal space for competitions regardless of the weather with neither intense rains nor blazing sun interfering with the proceedings.

A fortnight of equestrian excellence

The Sunshine Games are a long series of equine events, and Olympic Qualifying events are included among the many scheduled competitions for this prestigious gathering. There will be a total of five international show jumping and dressage events, all in the three-star category.

It is deliberately held at a single venue in order to require the least travelling on the part of the participating horses. In fact, the horses involved do travel to the site of the games at Montenmedio near Vejer from around 20 countries. Once there, however, they are able to settle in, relax and enjoy excellent conditions to perform in a wide array of events at the Montenmedio arena. It is to take place between February 3 – 18, 2009.

And as the horses are stabled and looked after on site at the Montenmedio Riding Centre, the surrounding area is preparing to welcome the hundreds of guests who also need accommodation. The beautiful white washed hill top town of Vejer is the nearest village, and offers a fabulous array of restaurants and bars to refresh the spirit after a long day in the saddle.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay then look no further, there is a wonderful town house in Vejer that can sleep up to 16 people, and is the perfect place for guests and competitors. Zahara de los Atunes  fue originalmente un pueblito de pescadores, pero en los últimos años se han construido urbanizaciones cerca del pueblo y a lo largo de la playa. Las urbanizaciones mantienen una distancia de la playa, todas ellas tienen una amplia zona ajardinada con piscinas y pistas de padle,desde los jardines se accede a la playa.

 El  Apartamento tiene un living amplio con un sofá cama, cocina americana, un dormitorio, cuarto de baño, y un pequeño jardín privado muy agradable.

El apartamento lo alquilamos con sábanas y toallas  el menaje de cocina es completo, tiene incluso lavavajillas un secador de pelo y  plancha – y la lavadora está en el baño. Tenemos televisión con DVD y un radio casette.

L’andalousie a la particularité d’être bordée de la mer (Méditerranée) et de l’océan (Atlantique). D’un côté, la Costa del Sol et, de l’autre, la Costa de la Luz. Néanmoins, ces deux côtes ont beaucoup de ressemblances.

La Costa de la Luz s’étend le long de la côte Atlantique des provinces de Cadix et de Huelva, de Tarifa jusqu’à Ayamonte, à la limite de la frontière avec le Portugal.

Une des caractéristiques de la Costa de la Luz est son paysage constitué de longues plages de sable fin et de soleil, d’où son nom de “Côte de la Lumière”. Inutile, donc, de préciser que cette région du sud de l’Espagne est tout aussi prisée des touristes que la côte méditerranéenne. Vous y trouverez donc de nombreuses locations de vacances, notamment dans les villes de Tarifa, Cadix ou Huelva qui sont les plus connues.

La renommée de Tarifa est aujourd’hui internationale, d’abord car c’est le point le plus méridional du continent européen (sans tenir compte des îles), mais surtout pour son spot de windsurf et, depuis peu, de Kite-surf.

Cadix, quant à elle, est connue pour être une des plus anciennes villes d’Europe, fondée sous le nom de Gadès en 1104 avant J. C. par les Phéniciens. Plus tard, au XVème siècle de notre ère, elle fera sa réputation devenant l’une des plus riches villes d’Europe grâce à son port utilisé comme port de rattachement par les navires espagnols qui suivirent les pas de Cristophe Colomb (“Cristobal Colon”). Aujourd’hui, Cadix est célèbre pour son carnaval déclaré d’”intérêt touristique international”.

Huelva, enfin, est la capitale de la province du même nom. Vous y trouverez de nombreux villages de pêcheurs, ainsi que le parc national de Doñana, compris entre la province de Huelva et celle de Séville. Huelva tient aussi sa réputation à ses jambons qui portent le Label d’origine et à la culture de fraises.

Isla Cristina es un municipio ubicado en una zona de marismas y pinares, dentro de la provincia de Huelva, concretamente en su costa occidental. Al igual que Isla Canela, está situado junto al municipio de Ayamonte, y al lado de Portugal. Ambas localidades tienen numerosas semejanzas, una de las cuales es el hecho de que las dos son localidades pesqueras, además de indiscutibles destinos turísticos.
Islantilla es una mancomunidad integrada por los municipios costeros de Lepe e Isla Cristina. Fue creada en 1991, con vistas a potenciar un turismo de calidad, así como a convertirse en uno de los referentes turísticos de la provincia de Huelva. La agrupación urbano-turística de Islantilla está situada en la costa entre ambos términos municipales. El área más céntrica, a pie de playa, reúne hoteles, apartamentos y un centro comercial de reciente creación, con todo tipo de establecimientos, restaurantes y un multicine.
El nombre de Isla Cristina tiene un curioso origen. Antiguamente, en el siglo XIX, el lugar llevaba por nombre La Higuerita. Sin embargo, durante un azote de cólera, la Reina María Cristina de Borbón envío gran cantidad de ayuda a la zona, a fin de aliviar la horrible situación, por lo que, a raíz de esta contribución, el nombre fue modificado a Isla Cristina.
La economía del municipio continúa enfocada hacia la pesca, actividad que dio origen a los inicios de aquél. En la actualidad, la lonja de Isla Cristina es la primera del país en pescado fresco subastado, por euros totales facturados.
En otro orden de cosas, son cuatro las playas que destacan en Isla Cristina: Playa Central, Playa de la Redondela, Playa del Hoyo, y Playa Punta del Caimán. La más aislada de entre ellas es Punta del Caimán. Al no tener un fácil acceso, no cuenta con servicios como las otras, pero al mismo tiempo es la más tranquila de entre las mismas. En todos los casos, se trata de playas de agua cristalina y arena dorada, y su limpieza invita a visitarlas, tanto para pasear, como para nadar o tomar el sol. De la misma manera, sus aguas transparentes, en la costa que se extiende a lo largo de unos 12 kilómetros, generan condiciones muy propicias para la práctica del submarinismo. Ni que decir tiene que la zona constituye un lugar idílico para los amantes de deportes náuticos como el surf, el windsurf, la vela, la motonáutica y la pesca, entre otras actividades.
El Parque Natural de Las Marismas, enclave de gran belleza, resulta por otra parte una zona de recomendada visita. También es aconsejable considerar en este sentido los numerosos edificios históricos del lugar, de gran belleza, siendo uno de ellos la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Patrona de la población.

Para encontrar Rota, debemos situarnos en la provincia de Cádiz. Dentro de la misma, y a 36 kilómetros de su capital, se sitúa este municipio, enmarcado dentro de la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía. La ciudad, a medio camino entre Portugal y Gibraltar, se halla ubicada junto a la Bahía de Cádiz. Se trata de un importante centro de atracción turístico, y constituye el destino vacacional de muchos viajeros procedentes de numerosos países europeos. Durante los meses de temporada baja, la actividad comercial se concentra en la industria pesquera.
En Rota pueden encontrarse una serie de hermosos monumentos de interesante valor histórico, como el Castillo de Luna, la Iglesia de la O, o la Torre de la Merced.
Pero sin duda el municipio destaca por sus playas, de limpias aguas y arena dorada. La Playa de la Costilla es un excelente exponente de ello; merecedora de la bandera azul por años consecutivos, está considerada una de las mejores playas de España. El visitante la encontrará a los mismos pies de la ciudad, junto a su antiguo casco histórico. El Rompidillo, al lado de la anterior, es otra de las magníficas playas que el municipio posee. Se trata de una playa urbana, que suele estar concurrida, y que cuenta con un bonito paseo marítimo cuyo recorrido conduce al Puerto Deportivo de la Villa. Rota cuenta además con playas mucho más vírgenes, que permiten al viajero en busca de tranquilidad encontrar el anhelado sosiego. Exponentes de este tipo de visión son las playas de Arroyo Hondo, Punta Candor y La Ballena, situadas en un entorno natural y salvaje de gran encanto.
De todas ellas, destacaremos la Playa de La Ballena, última playa de Rota, que linda con las playas de Chipiona y tiene una extensión de dos kilómetros y medio. Se trata de una fantástica playa de aguas cristalinas y fina arena. Existe un autobús que comunica Rota con La Ballena. En la extensa zona de campo situada detrás de ella se encuentra el complejo urbanístico Costa Ballena y un gran campo de golf de 18 hoyos, donde el aficionado a este deporte podrá practicarlo en un marco incomparable. También los aficionados a otro tipo de deportes, incluyendo los acuáticos, están de enhorabuena si eligen este destino vacacional- son muchas las posibilidades que el municipio ofrece para poderlos desarrollar.
Encontrar alojamiento para disfrutar de sus vacaciones en la costa no será un problema; la amplia oferta alojativa permite al visitante elegir entre una buena cantidad de hoteles y apartamentos en Rota o Playa Ballena, desde donde cada viajero podrá vivir la experiencia soñada a su propia manera.

La localidad de Ayamonte-Isla Canela está situada dentro de la comarca de la costa occidental de Huelva. El municipio, Ayamonte, se encuentra ubicado junto a la desembocadura del Río Guadiana. Isla Canela es un barrio dentro del municipio, situado en su zona sur, y que se halla separado de la ciudad por un brazo de mar de unos 300 metros de ancho. Se trata de una barriada puramente marinera, cuyo nombre es el mismo que el de la isla donde está situada, entre los ríos Guadiana y Carreras. Al oeste, ofrece al visitante espectaculares puestas de sol con Portugal de fondo.
Por otra parte, la zona presenta una extraordinaria climatología, algo que, sumado al atractivo de sus excelentes playas, ha hecho que el número de visitantes se haya visto incrementado en los últimos años significativamente. Dos playas a destacar son Playa Punta del Moral y Playa de Isla Canela. La primera, de oleaje moderado y con un kilómetro de longitud, es una playa urbana, con paseo marítimo y que cuenta con un amplio número de servicios. La segunda, Playa de Isla Canela, de 7 kilómetros, es la primera de las playas del municipio, y está enclavada en un entorno natural de marismas, caños, arenales y dunas, en la desembocadura del Guadiana.
Encontrar alojamiento en Ayamonte-Isla Canela no es nada difícil. Hay muchos hoteles para elegir el tipo de estancia deseado, y el viajero podrá decidir cuestiones como, entre otras, la posibilidad de estar más o menos cerca de un campo de golf o de la playa. En cualquier caso, el lugar ofrece muchas opciones en cuanto a la posible práctica de una diversidad de deportes al aire libre, además del ya mencionado.
Gastronómicamente hablando, cabe destacar platos como el bacalao a la portuguesa, el arroz con castañas, las poleadas de maíz, la raya en Pimentón, el rape a la marinera, y la tarta de nata- como uno de los muchos deliciosos postres que pueden encontrarse en la zona. Además, están los boquerones en vinagre, el tollo con tomate, las gambas blancas típicas de Huelva, y un rico jamón de jabugo, que harán las delicias del visitante.
Se puede llegar a Ayamonte por carretera, en tren, o en avión. El aeropuerto más cercano es el de Faro, en Portugal, que se encuentra a 52 kilómetros del núcleo urbano. Otra posibilidad consiste en utilizar el Aeropuerto de Sevilla, a una distancia de 150 kilómetros.
