Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

Okay, I know that Paris Fashion Week ended a couple of weeks ago, but it took me a while to look at all of the shows because (1) They are so fabulous and (2) There are so many!  The designers showing in Paris definately kept the standard of the being the best.  I was absolutely blown away by some of the shows and there were an impressive amount of collections where I loved every piece (Chanel, Tsumori Chisato, Givenchy, Rue du Mail, Valentino, Isabel Marant….to name a few).  AMAZING.  Anyway, there were many pieces that represented the trends that I’ve mentioned in the past few posts, but there were also a couple new looks that I will talk about as well.  But for the most part, for the Paris collections, anything goes!  I saw some pieces that were super structured, some that were relaxed, some pleated, some tight, bright colors, dark neturals and everything in between!  Here are some examples of what I thought were the best:

Trend: Cute Minis

Just like the rest, these are from the designers’ Spring line, but these cute little numbers are easily layered and totally in for the Fall!

Trend: Grecian Inspired Draping

This look is so flattering and serves as a great palate to add layers.

Trend: Metallics

This look wasn’t as flashy or abundant on the Paris runways, but it definitely still had a presence!

Trend: Jumpsuits & Rompers

These pieces are so easy to wear right now.  They are perfect with tights, a cardigan and a great belt!

Trend: Asymmetric

Trend: Ruffles & Bows

Lots and lots of ruffles!

Staple: Cool Jackets

Especially now, a unique jacket really makes an outfit pop.  Check these out for inspiration:

Staple: Cute Shorts

Ultra-feminine and comfortable, enough said!  Flowy shorts are perfect to pair with patterned tights when it gets a bit chilly.

Staple: White Suit

Classic, chic & never goes out of style.

Styling Trend: Strong v. Feminine

Balance any outfit with this technique!  In Paris, it was mostly used with draping.

Styling Trend: Mixing Prints

Can be tricky, but take a few pointers from Dries Van Noten; the majority of their looks were compiled of patterned layers.

New Trend: Relaxed Pants

Whereas we saw a lot of Harem cut pants on the other runways, in Paris the entire pant leg was relaxed.  But designers also used lux, flowy fabrics, to make these comfortable pieces still luxurious, chic, and ready for a night on the town.  Some are still tailored, but others remind me of a genie pant! (in a good way!)

New Trend: Tuxedo-Inspired

There were a large amount of pieces on the Paris runways that seemed to be inspired by the tuxedo.  Whether the focus is on the lapel, cumberbund, bowtie, dickey, or simply the jacket, these pieces are a great way to dress up a casual outfit.

New Trend: Textures

What’s a great way to amp up some of your pieces? Look for ones that are more than two dimensional!  Textures add a unique dynamic to your every-day outfit.  Not sure where to start?  This is a great time to get textural sweaters, a fun, textured shirt to wear under a cardigan, a furry vest, or even something as simple as a quilted accesory.

Ok, so we’re one day behind. I guess punctuality is not my thing nowadays. However, I’m still hoping to get today’s post on time, so let’s get yesterday’s out of the way.

Karl Lagerfeld

While Chanel becomes more and more dislodged from the modern scheme of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld manages to prove his relevance today with his namesake label. Particularly in the past few seasons, he has offered quite a sharp vision with the collection. This season was all black and white, but found its original footing with geometric shapes that only Lagerfeld could hope to achieve. At times, these shapes became a bit overwrought and unflattering, but the highlights of the show were enough to make it a success. Full Show Here.

Andrew Gn

Andrew Gn has been quietly buzzed about for a while now, due to his wearable but beautiful clothing. This season was mostly a study in black and white, (Karl, did you have anything to do with this?) save for a few brilliant blues and hot pinks. The designs themselves were nothing new, but Gn’s (totally love that I can type that but could never even dream of pronouncing it) appeal lies not in innovation but in quality and durability. Akris

Akris has been given a meager piece of the spotlight recently, and Albert Kriemler didn’t take that for granted, offering a fantastic collection this season. There wasn’t one piece that the Akris customer would hesitate to buy. Kriemler has a canny ability to portray stylish details in a non-flamboyant way. That certainly bodes well for Akris’ selling power. Full Show Here.

Emanuel Ungaro

The house of Ungaro has been abound with controversy lately, after the brand’s execs decided they needed a little dose of glitterati in the form of Lindsay Lohan as an “advisor.” This didn’t sit too well with Estaban Cortazar, the creative director at the time, who exited the company when Lohan’s position became non-negotiable. Estrella Archs apparently didn’t mind “working” with her, because she took over Cortazar’s spot. Some time between then and now, Lindsay became “co-designer.” The show that was produced, however it was produced, is a bit tricky to review. It’s easy to enter it with bias, as most others have, but the truth is that Lohan likely had very little to do with it. Maybe the odd email was exchanged, ideas were shared, and “Yes” and “No” were administered on her part, but there’s not much more she could have done across the globe to sabotage the collection. Truthfully, to speak of the collection as if it were the work of Satan is a little bit beyond extreme. Sure, there wasn’t much to be jazzed about, but there hasn’t been anything too great at Ungaro for a while. Of course Lohan wasn’t a good choice, but we’re now left to wonder, was Archs? Costume National

The Costume National show worked with leather as if it were the most pliable of jerseys, creating shockingly comfortable-looking mini shorts, leggings, and jackets. This was, unfortunately, a premature highlight to quite a snoozer of a collection. Wake me when it’s over. Full Show Here.

Hussein Chalayan

Hussein Chalayan’s Spring show was a little bit of a slow builder, oddly enough given his incredible track record. The dissected takes on suiting were interesting enough, but they seemed to be too staid a concept for Chalayan’s capabilities. Things became more his speed when he worked in a fabric that almost looks liquid. But, overall, there’s not enough to appreciate about the collection. Chalayan is one who we can always expect to do something no one else is. But the pieces this season didn’t speak heavily of that trademark. Full Show Here.

Dries Van Noten

It hasn’t taken very long, but Dries Van Noten has positioned himself as a must-see designer with his unexpected shapes, colors, and prints. This season’s show was a clear indication of that, particularly the latter, with prints that should have clashed, but what do you know, didn’t. The look was refined and charming. Albeit, the show didn’t do much to advance his iconography, as the past few seasons have done in copious proportions. But Van Noten has done what many designers can’t: established himself as a true original. It won’t be long before his house is among the top in Paris. Full Show Here.

Kris Van Assche

If Kris Van Assche wasn’t exactly a minimalist before, I think it’s safe to say that was his outlook this season. Suits were turned loose and treated a guinea pigs for an interesting tying technique. Elsewhere, dresses were made in simple but highly effective shapes. Perhaps this is Van Assche’s way of telling us that he’s moving on after a bit of a lag in his past few collections. I’ll take it. Givenchy

Usually a fan of a big concept, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci seemed to only be mining his own archives for his Spring collection. The feminine dresses, the sharp jackets, the leather; we’ve seen it all from him already. In fact, the only thing that felt new was his new stripe motif, which opened the show, but it felt a little dated. This wasn’t a boring fact, by any means, and the show will fit in quite nicely with his repertoire. But it was a little iffy to base his entire collection on what we’ve already seen before. Sonia Rykiel

Sonia Rykiel was evidently feeling funkier this season, not that she’s not always electric. The whimsy was whimsier, and neon biker shorts were to be found. There’s not much to say about it, but who can resist? You can’t help but love it. Full Show Here.

Aright everybody! Now that that’s taken care of, we can move on to today’s shows. Stella McCartney, Giambattista Valli, Phoebe Philo’s first RTW collection at Celine, and Yves Saint Laurent? We’ve got it, like the Polar Express has hot chocolate. Yeah, we’ve got it.

Oggi inizia la settimana della moda milanese, una delle fashion week più amate e apprezzate nel mondo. Ma quest’anno non si limiterà a rivolgersi solo agli operatori del settore, ma anche a noi comuni mortali. L’esempio più lampante è l’evento “Milano Loves Fashion”, organizzato con C’n'C Costume National: si tratta di una serata che unisce musica e moda, in uno scenario importante e decisamente non convenzionale, ovvero in Piazza Duomo. Porteranno la moda, con la sfilata della nuova collezione C’n'C, la danza, con la partecipazione di Eleonora Abbagnato, e la musica, con i The Kills e Kruder & Dorfmeister. Altro grande ospite è il regista Paolo Sorrentino.  Il tutto inizierà alle 20.15 di giovedì 24 Settembre.

Un altro appuntamento da non perdere è quello del 25 Settembre alle ore 19.00, presso La Rinascente di Corso Vittorio Emanuele, sempre nel centro di Milano. Le protagoniste sono le tre intramontabili top degli anni ‘90, scelte come testimonials della nuova linea di profumi D&G. Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer e Eva Herzigova saranno ospiti insieme agli stilisti.

Per quanto riguarda la nightlife, molti party a invito, ma anche molte one night, come la serata Punks Wear Prada, che in occasione della settimana della moda si sposta al Tunnel, noto locale milanese in via Sammartini. La serata promette una full di modelle e volti noti del campo della moda, la data è sempre il 25 Settembre.

Girls, it is time to go green and save!

 Green is not one of the main colors in our collective color plate. I was not sure about going green for fall/winter 2009. Was it too daring? As I was contemplating the validity of this post during my morning commute, a vision in green captivated my attention. My fellow commuter, the always stylish yet never dull, Ms. Fierce (my personal nickname for her). Wearing a very lovely green python printed pump with a green satin pencil skirt, with a burgundy bag. Yes, she went there and the land was good.

This solidified it for me: Be bold, be adventurous and save money go green! (And don’t forget to check the sidebar for links to online retailers).

costume national, for me, has always represented the essence of “fashion forward”. distributed through all the major fashion capitals; new york, rome, milan, paris, los angeles & tokyo- C’N'C seemingly merges street style to high end luxury with a persistent aim towards the future of fashion.  since the brands 1986 emergence, the house of costume national has been consistently innovative in their designs, runway shows, marketing & advertising. most innovative is their approach seen for their fall campaign. to digitalize the showcase of high-end street fashion? i love it, completely. such a simple concept & yet, still completely innovative. its completely relevant to todays fashion market. with the rise of fashion blogs, this is picture perfect. i dig the diverse casting of the models seen as well. dope concept.

Le costume national selon le comité Miss Mauritius

Le “costume national” porté par Miss Mauritius lors du concours Miss Univers 2009 sera exposé dans un musée au Bahamas. C’est ce qu’a annoncé Primerose Obeegadoo, la reine mère des Miss Mauritius, à l’express. Elle explique qu’il y a au Bahamas un Musée des costumes nationaux au Bahamas et qu’elle a été contacté par celui ci pour que cette robe soit placé dans ce musée. Dans l’article de l’express ce matin Sophie Bax, créatrice de cette robe, explique qu’elle a voulu représenté la fraicheur de notre ile à travers cette robe et suivre la nouvelle ligne de promotion de l’ile comme destination touristique. Sauf que Robert Desveaux Président de la MTPA déclare qu’à un moment celle-ci (la MTPA) avait mis des normes à respecter en matière de costume national pour tenter de rehausser l’image de la Miss Maurice. Mais le  choix de la robe revient à Mme. Obeegadoo.

Il faut savoir que si on veut par exemple utiliser un dodo ou les contours de l’ile Maurice dans un logo par exemple, il faut faire une demande auprès du bureau du Premier Ministre. Cela dans le but de s’assurer de la préservation de l’image de nos symboles nationaux.

Est-ce-que Mme. Obeegadoo a elle seule peut décider quelle robe représente le mieux notre ile? Et si elle est assez bien pour faire figure de costume national Mauricien dans un musée international?

Reste à savoir dans quelle partie du musée la fameuse robe sera exposée: beauté du monde ou curiosité de l’imagination humaine?

Ok! It’s not rocket science. Royal Blue and Black is – was – and will be a great color combination. If you consider black to be a “safe” color and you want to experiment a little with something out of your usual comfort zone, royal blue is a great start because it is no too far away from black in terms of effect. Here’s a little inspiration on how to bring all your black accessories into 2009: by adding a little royal blue!

At Aquascutum and Michael Kors, a black belt adds definition to the knee-high dresses. Complete the look with a black clutch.

Mini dresses and platform gladiator inspired shoes = legs for days at BCBG and Gucci.

Maintain the aura of royalty with a long dress a la Lela Rose or Issa.

Sheer materials are a hit this season and the royal blue world is no exception. At Costume National the sheer black material is a perfect canvas for royal blue sequins, while Vera Wang creates a delicate sheer overlay for a royal blue dress.

Two piece combos can be as sophisticated or as simple as you prefer. Sonia Rykiel achieves a very luxurious look with this silk blue and black suit. The fishnet socks and ankle tie pants is definitely a look worth replicating. Paul Smith on the other hand, plays with the shape of the pant and the uses a scarf as a belt to add dimension and exaggerate the waist in it’s smallest point.

DKNY takes a simple casual approach but comes up with a look that prioritizes comfort and can be dressed up with jewelry.

Nicole Richie

Nicole is this generation’s original wild child. When it comes to being known more notoriety than for talent, Nicole ranks high on the list. The only thing I never anticipated her to do was to completely and utterly turn her life around and pick up all the pieces–and quite stylishly at that.  I can’t help but root for the girl, despite the fact that her previous misfortunes were due solely to her reckless choices.

Style-wise this wild child is an icon. She started the oversized sunglass phase (which has yet to end). She made headscarves an acceptable bad hair day fix. And she welcomed the boho chic revival with open arms and has yet to move on. No complaints here! Every single outfit of hers is an immaculate mix of modern and retro, taking cues from her past mentor Rachel Zoe. Comically enough, until designing her line House of Harlow of vintagey jewelry, she really has had very few other career accomplishments. But her unwavering position as forerunner in the boho chic realm insures that I would follow her fashion sense to the ends of the earth.

The blond bohemian is now pregnant with a sibling for Harlow and I can only imagine what kind of hippie name this next one will get. Nicole seems happier and a lot healthier than she has in the past and has my full attention when it comes to street and red carpet style. Needless to say, we will not see Mama Richie rocking mom jeans anytime soon.

This is a little bit of the new resort 2010 collection of COSTUME NATIONAL, an italian luxury brand that i had the opportunity to do my internship in Milan, Italy.

Ennio Capasa is the owner and designer, i really like the style of the brand, very modern mixed with classic in a clean and futuristic way! Costume National has stores all over the world, is from Milano but the fashion show happens in Paris (more glam!).

I liked the resort collection, is light and classic! The only thing i would change is this  nerd style, like those glasses from ‘Betty, the ugly” (ok, i know is ‘trendy’ now but no way!)!!!

So the resort shows are kind of old news, but I’ve been slowly making my way through them.  I know everyone’s talking about the couture shows, but since couture isn’t in my budget (although resort isn’t really, either) I thought I’d go for the looks I could actually try and replicate or lust after.

just absolute lust.  I’ll post more another time. More specific comments after the jump.

Basically, these looks embody some trends/currents/ideas I love right now.  Tough feminine – studs, leather, hardware, glitter, soft, floaty fabrics, etc.

There’s also statement jewelry – which I loove very much – and simplicity.  Simplicity, not minimalism, I’m not quite sure what I mean by that, but I guess, it’s not that things are one color, it’s that there are only a few pieces, and they’re great (see Matthew Williamson).  I still love the Olsen-twin piles of layers, but obviously that’s not quite practical these days, so it’s sort of been put on the back burner.

Jackets.  I love jackets and cardigans.  Maybe I’m just too modest, or I just get cold too easily, but I really wish I had a better collection of things to put over outfits/dresses/tank tops/tshirts etc.

As I’ve said before, I don’t like summer because it feels like getting dressed is all about having  lots of great dresses or skirts.  Where I live it feels like a million degrees in the summer and the air is like soup it’s so humid and it’s especially hard to wear anything more than a light dress.

I guess what I’m getting at is, I hate getting dressed these days, especially when I look at beautiful clothes like these, which usually involve layering.  I know resort is technically between fall and spring when “everyone” is jetting away for the holidays, but since I never buy anything and I don’t really care about seasons, it’s all fair game for getting dressed.
