Last weekend I was out in Shoreditch celebrating the birthday of a fabulous friend… En route from bar to club we stumbled across a sweet sweet haven of tasteful music and jazzy outfits at The Last Days of Decadence. It was prohibition night, but nothing was stopping anyone from having an outrageously fun time. The ragtime was blairing, outfits were daring and drinks were aplenty.

So in true homage to 1920s chic, don your trilbys and flapper dresses, and get ready to be transported to another era. An era of Charleston-dancing, pearl-swinging, frolicking, flirting, frivolous decadence.

Como não podia deixar de ser e depois de muitos testes de materiais e de aprender a trabalhar em fibra de vidro e de muitos erros, consegui finalmente colocar algum progresso no meu fato de Master Chief….

Todo o trabalho e feito com os modelos já feitos pelo pessoal do site 405th que muito ajudaram na execução e que nada disto seria possível sem eles, apenas fiz o download dos ficheiros criados por eles e dei mãos a obra…. esta figura são as Handplates feitas em papel, ainda exige algum trabalho por parte de quem monta e digo já que e necessária muita dedicação para um trabalho destes e muito esforço, quem iniciar isto prepare-se para dispensar muito tempo e dinheiro e que a qualidade da armadura depois se vai reflectir no tempo despendido…..

E esta a fibra que vou utilizar em toda a armadura compra-se no Aki na secção de tintas, não e necessário a tela em fibra apenas a resina/putty, de lembrar que para utilizar isto e necessário equipamento apropriado, tal como mascara com filtros (de preferência das que não são descartáveis), luvas e óculos.

É este o aspecto com que o papel fica depois de aplicada a fibra de vidro. É de notar a resistência que este material tem mas apenas apliquei uma fina camada que mais tarde vai ter de levar mais um pouco mas estou a pensar encher com poliuretano, mais barato e apenas quero dar enchimento e resistência que ainda tem de levar alguma resina/putty de definição que é uma resina que serve para aplicar em camadas mais finas, a que estou a usar serve para aplicar em camadas ate 2cm o que é muito, mais tarde o necessário e apenas resina de 0.5cm.

My costume is a female Korean historical entertainer from 16 century, Hwang Jin Yi. Korean fashion designer, Younghee Lee, actually inspired me and I adopted most of the design from her. It was a shame that I couldn’t finish a gorgeous hat for my hair and traditional type of handbag. But I could comfort myself being proud of the fact that I made the dress by myself. In the middle, my supervisor Patrick is being a western cowboy, and my Japanese friend Mariko is acting as Marie, a cat character from Disney animation, The Aristocats.

So I hurried up to get dressed and put on my makeup. Tada~ what do you think?

I directly headed to the party instead of watching the parade in the rain. I saw a number of people who were taking a train to move from west to east side.

The majority of people who are over 21 years old usually celebrate Halloween at a bar or a club or a private house party after the parade. I RSVP’d to one wine bar near Spring Street at which the parade ended.

I asked these two ladies to pose for me. Yeah, she is ready to dive in!

She represented Amelia, who is an American aviation pioneer. Recently the movie Amelia was released.

He was dressed up as a dwarf from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. But it was funny that big figured person was acting like a tiny dwarf.

I guess this guy was promoting the website or was dressed up as an elementary particle in physics.

While I was running to another bar, I saw little angels in the doorway. I could not pass without capturing the moment.

I “met” one of my favorite designers, Karl Lagerfeld.

He is my friend, Wil, dressed up as Alex from A Clockwork Orange. He put on mascara on his right eye to exaggerate the character’s uneven eyes. I loved the detail and I laughed at his so-so British accent.

C’è chi non si arrende, a Foggia. C’è chi dice basta alla violenza ed alla sopraffazione che regnano nelle strade, e lo dice a voce alta. C’è chi riesce ancora ad indignarsi e, perciò stesso, ad indicare una speranza di futuro.
In attesa che il progetto venga concretizzato (ma perché l’amministrazione non rompe gli indugi?) il movimento per l’istituzione del Forum dei Giovani
al Comune di Foggia ha promosso, per domenica 6 dicembre, alle 18.00, un sit in contro la violenza presso l’Isola Pedonale di Foggia.
“Negli ultimi mesi a Foggia – si legge in una nota diffusa alla stampa – abbiamo assistito ad una inconsueta escalation di violenza. Non è certo la prima volta che episodi simili avvengono nella nostra città, essendo piuttosto radicati nella cultura familiare e sociale del nostro territorio. Tuttavia non possiamo non segnalare alcuni inquietanti elementi di novità: la futilità delle cause scatenanti; l’età media sempre più bassa dei protagonisti; il senso di impunità dominante e la localizzazione di certi atteggiamenti di prevaricazione e sprezzo delle regole di convivenza nel centro della città.”
“Come promotori del Forum dei Giovani, – continua il movimento – abbiamo sentito il bisogno di reagire per dire basta all’imbarbarimento che coinvolge, in modo sempre più preoccupante, adolescenti e giovani del nostro territorio. Abbiamo scelto di rompere il muro dell’indifferenza. Abbiamo scelto di ritrovarci uniti e vicini a tutti i cittadini foggiani non rassegnati a questa situazione.”
Con grande onestà intellettuale, i promotori dell’iniziativa affermano: “Non abbiamo soluzioni pre-confezionate, pur avendo già elaborato e avanzato proposte concrete di cui un esempio è la costituzione del Forum dei Giovani a Foggia, eppure riteniamo che nulla possa cambiare se nessuno comincia a farsi carico del cambiamento: famiglie, Istituzioni, associazioni, Chiesa, mondo dell’informazione e dell’economia.”
Il sit-in contro la violenza intende essere, dunque, una “occasione per confrontarci, incontrare le istituzioni e far sentire che c’è una parte viva della società civile e dei giovani che non vuole abbassare la testa.”
Bello, lo slogan dell’iniziativa: “Unisciti a noi, grida Avast’”.

The 501st was once again invited to march in Brockton’s annual Holiday Parade. Aside from a little wind, the weather was great. Judy and the kids took the ride with me to watch the parade while I marched in it. Luke and Mary had a great time seeing all the “behind the scenes” action, and the costumes. The Parade Committee was kind enough to donate $500.00 to the Make A Wish Fondation in our name!

My word, I sure am getting a lot of mileage out of Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, a movie that always gets a bad rap (not least from me!). But it’s an entertaining entry in the slasher saga nonetheless—in an inept, groan-inducing sort of way.

What passes for a story is riddled with idiotic elements, including a grotesque backwoods mother and her semi-retarded son, an apathetic drifter who’s the most useless red herring ever committed to celluloid, and some seriously lackadaisical counselors. The major gripe for most fans, though, is undoubtedly the lack of Jason. After suffering the fabled “machete slide” at the end of part four, the real deal spends part five in his grave while an impersonator does the dirty work. (Actually, the misinformed mayor remarks that Jason was cremated, but six subsequent sequels would indicate that he’s a tad misinformed.) If you ask me, however, the fraudulent fruitcake is the least of part five’s problems.

Jason is an icon. His hockey mask is one of the most potent images in horror history. Even wet blankets who wouldn’t be caught dead actually watching a Friday flick, instantly recognize the mask. It’s narrative shorthand for death, carnage and epic fail camping trips. Add grubby coveralls and a bloody machete to the equation, and you’ve got an indelible presence to match that of Lugosi’s Dracula or Karloff’s Monster. Of course, only a moron would argue that Jason’s bloodbaths could ever hold a candle to the Universal classics, but there’s something to be said for his level of pop culture notoriety. When you consider that six men have so far played the masked, adult Jason, you begin to realize the potency of the imagery—with the right accoutrements and body language, any big guy can be Jason Voorhees, homicidal mama’s boy.

See? Even the actor who played the phony, despite his reservations, could feel the power of the costume. So what if the real Jason was taking a dirt nap? SPOILER WARNING: Vengeful paramedic Roy dispatches his victims in the spirit of the genuine article, and that’s good enough for me. I even like the new, unscathed mask with the blue diamonds—as you may remember, Jason’s mask has red diamonds and a slit above the left temple.

Oh my goodness, what a fall this has been. My schooling has been so chaotic its hard to update directly after a con because I have to get so caught up after missing one or two days! Its ridiculous! But ‘busy’ already is pretty much my middle name!

Youmacon went great. I got to debut quite a few costumes. Including my Rosemary costume from SaGa Frontier; which I had a lovely brother and group for! Oh the SaGa love! I also brought my Julian Moore costume (gallery up shortly) and a new Lady Gaga (gallery up shortly). I didn’t get many pictures of the latter two, thus the reason I don’t have galleries for them yet. I also grabbed my ‘Gijinka’ Robbie costume to hang out with my friend Miri, who also made a Bunny Boy costume to go along with mine. Fun was had by all!

I got to see a ton of awesome friends I don’t get to see very often and I got to meet quite a few new friends; some of which I have a feeling are gonna be some awesome cosplay friendships. Our hotel room was the best thing ever and I also worked for Kingdom Arts. Working for The Arts ended up paying for my trip, and not only that, brought me much closer to some of the coolest cosplay ladies in the world! You know who you are!

Il nostro affezionato lettore, Franco Cuttano, ci ha onorati di due commenti ad articoli e note che abbiamo pubblicato negli scorsi giorni. Entrambi i commenti sono uniti da un sottile filo rosso che si piace mettere in evidenza. Il primo riguarda le nostra considerazioni sulla leggera ipocrisia dei commenti politici in occasione della presentazione del rapporto Meglio Foggia: che se la crisi l’avessero scoperta soltanto allora. “Cuttano difende la nostra proposta di  convocazione/riunione dei due Consigli uniti. sottolineando la necessità di uscirne con delle programmazioni anti-crisi chiaramente accompagnate dal c.d.: “come, dove e quando”  altrimenti sarà l’ennesima dimostrazione del: “tutto chiacchiere”.
L’altro commento riguarda, invece, il nostro articolo nel quale, riflettendo sullo stato di crisi molto profondo che sta attraversando l’agricoltura in provincia di Foggia, evidenzia l’amo la necessità di sviluppare la ricerca, di tutelare le eccellenze e di vincere le sfide aperte, prima tra tutte quella per l’attivazione dell’agenzia nazionale per la sicurezza alimentare che il Parlamento ha localizzato a Foggia ma il cui iter pare essersi sostanzialmente bloccato. In quest’articolo sottolinea ramo anche la necessità di difendere alcuni presidi già esistenti ma in fase di smantellamento come il cosiddetto “ovile nazionale” di borgo saggezza, è l’ex ippodromo di via Francese. Replicando su Facebook Franco col Cuttano scrive: “colgo l’occasione di ringraziare pubblicamente la redazione della Quotidiano di Foggia, sensibilissima sulla questione IRIIP e a noi PRO IRIIP lo spazio sul giornale non è mai mancato. Un quotidiano lodevole, impegnato costantemente a ricordarci cosa di bello abbiamo, chi eravamo e quanta virtuosa storia rappresentiamo e il tutto come lo stiamo … Mostra tuttodimenticando e rovinando. L’articolo su riportato parla anche del nostro amato IRIIP e chiude con una mia esternazione scritta sul Forum del Quotidiano di Foggia che avevo quasi dimenticato. Vi consiglio di leggerlo perchè l’autore (Arturo Desio) è di penna buona e riesce a farsi leggere tutto d’un fiato. Buona lettura!
ringraziamo Cuttano per le belle espressioni di cui ci ha gratificato. Ma il punto non è questo. Pensiamo che l’amico Franco abbia colto nel segno, abbia messo il dito nella piaga quando ci dà il merito (e di questo siamo veramente orgogliosi) di riuscire a mettere in evidenza le “cose belle” TeleFoggia e la provincia mettono in campo. Sono veramente tante, e noi cerchiamo di raccontarle, di dare ad esse il giusto peso ed il giusto valore, anche quando la cronaca quotidiana ci costringe a annotare cose, fatti ed episodi dei quali si farebbe volentieri a meno. Commentando i dati dell’indagine annuale promossa dall’associazione Meglio Foggia, il sindaco di Foggia, Gianni Mongelli, ha messo in evidenza come pura fronte di dati che attestano una crisi evidente nel capoluogo da uno, a Foggia vi sia la percezione che comunque le cose vanno peggio di come sono realmente. La percezione diffusa cittadina volge, insomma, al pessimismo. Sono gli organi di informazione a rappresentare, spesso, lo specchio in cui si riflette l’opinione pubblica, la comunità civile. Vogliamo dire che la buona o cattiva percezione di sé, passa spesso per il modo con cui la realtà quotidiana viene rappresentata dai giornali, dai telegiornali, dalle ribalte dei mezzi di comunicazione di massa.
A sfogliare le pagine dei quotidiani provinciali e regionali non c’è davvero di che rallegrarsi e la lettura dei giornali non è certamente un esercizio consigliabile a quanti soffrono di depressione. Mostri, scandali, cattive notizie “battute” in prima pagina sono la regola. E forse, ahinoi, sono anche il modo per vendere più copie o per fare più a udienze. È un gioco al massacro che produce quella “cattiva percezione di sé stigmatizzato dal sindaco Mongelli. È un malvezzo che produce sfiducia, scoramento, che scoraggia quanti vorrebbero impegnarsi per costruire un futuro diverso migliore. Noi, invece, le “cose belle” vogliamo dirle, vogliamo mettere in evidenza, ci piacerebbe presto persino gridarle, se fosse possibile. Perché pensiamo che se la città e la provincia sono affette da tanti problemi, e mostrano quotidianamente tanti aspetti brutti, sono anche tante le cose belle che posseggono a cominciare dalla gente, dalla capacità della gente di essere solidale, dalla volontà della gente di partecipare ai processi di costruzione del futuro. Rendersi conto delle cose belle che si posseggono il modo migliore per amarle di più, e per amarsi di più. Ecco, Foggia ha bisogno di amarsi di più.

Finding the perfect fit in a ready-made costume is almost unheard of.  However, the following tip will help you get a good fit with our ready-made costumes.

BRA - Off the shelf costumes are usually created with a little extra strap and will have to be adjusted. You may want to bring the straps together or criss-cross them, make it halter style (around the neck) for a different look.  The Distance around the back is usually longer than needed.  You can always move the hooks to make the bra tighter in the back.  Often changing the angle of the bra cups is more flattering.  Try tilting them at more of an angle when trying on.  If you like the look, make that adjustment by taking a stitch or two.

If there is excessive amount of extra strap or belt adding a snap will often keep it from showing. You can do this rather than cutting to allow for future adjustment

Caution: Straps are often not attached a firmly because it is expected that the dancer will adjust the strap to suit her.  –  Check for secure sewing before wearing for a performance!

BELT -The belt usually has to be adjusted to fit.  Turkish and Egyptian bras and belts usually have a closure on the side and the other side is sewn so that it can easily taken apart for adjustment.   When making smaller open the sewn side and adjust on both sides so that the back and front motifs can stay center.   The Brazilian style belts close in the back with Velcro.  It is recommended that you fit snugly and use trouser hooks, usually available at most fabric stores for fastening.
