Tip- use olive oil to take off your eye make-up.

How? - Dampen a cotton ball / pad with a little water, tip a small amount of olive oil on to the cotton ball, close your eye and gently wipe off make-up. If you have alot of eye make up on you may need to do this twice. This is a very safe and gentle way of removing your eye make-up naturally.

To be completely honest there are some things in life that I crave, absolutely need to have and comfort is one of those things especially at home. I am the first to sacrifice comfort when it comes to a fabulous pair of heels, but when I am in my home I need comfort! The Hubs and I are determined to create a comfortable and restorative space for our study. We purchased the Lounge Sofa from Crate & Barrel which is arguably the most comfortable sofa ever – super deep with soft micro velvet fabric and down cushions. In love!

Crate & Barrel Lounge Sofa

The cold nights are fast approaching, being cozy and warm under a thick wool cable knit throw blanket is my idea of comfort this winter. With that said, now I need to find the perfect one. Pottery Barn has a cable knit throw for $79 and unfortunately it is a cotton acrylic blend. I hate hate hate synthetic materials like acrylic and polyester.

Pottery Barn Cable Knit Throw

Here are my throw blanket requirements:

Natural fiber – wool or cotton {bamboo too!}

Chunky cable knit

Ivory, cream or white

Check out this gorgeous chunky knit throw blanket that I found on Emilie Finds blog {http://bit.ly/90YEdf} this blanket in a neutral would be to die for!

There is a blanket from West Elm that is growing on me the Lutz & Patmos honeycomb throw for $89 except it too is mostly acrylic.

I have a new banner! Yay! Big thank you to Paige who is a Photoshop wiz-kid for making it for me!

I have a new banner! Yay! Big thank you to Paige who is a Photoshop wiz-kid for making it for me! I am totally delighted by it – and now will be hitting Paige up for all my Photoshop needs! No good deed ever goes unpunished…

I am currently doing the groundwork for setting up an etsy shop. I think it will be worth it once I’ve got it up and running, but I did not fully realize just how much work setting it up properly would be. I need to figure out prices for everything, figure out the shipping weights and rates for everything, make tags for all my saleable items, get better photos taken of it all, right on down to picking a name for my shop. Oy vey! I planned to have it done last weekend, but other things distracted me too much and I didn’t get to it. Story of my life! But when its the Eastside Culture Crawl, it really isn’t a good day for getting your own work done, its time to go see other people’s creations. And covet, covet, covet as you get inspired anew.

In the spirit of the etsy shop, I pulled out some older finished projects and took photos of them. These are two 12″ x 12″ pillows I made well over a year ago. I believe the cotton prints are Michael Miller for the dress forms and Alexander Henry for the pin-up girls, but don’t quote me on that.

Rivalry Week Throw The Stats Out The Window This is the college football week where more money is

Rivalry Week

Throw The Stats Out The Window

This is the college football week where more money is lost by those who don’t know what they are doing and more money is made by those who do know. Certain rivalry games are just that—real rivalries. Others are nothing but an annual beating on a little sister.

There is another bigger factor to this week’s games. It’s the bowl factor. Several teams are still looking for one final win to become bowl eligible. A 5-6 team hosting an 8-3 team must be looked at quite differently than a 2-9 team hosting a 4-7 team. The desire to get to 6-6 far outweighs the desire to avoid a 10-loss season.

Clemson and Georgia Tech have already clinched their divisions and will meet for the ACC Championship. Tech edges the Tigers in Atlanta in September, but Clemson gave the game away.

Duke needs to beat Wake Forest this week to earn their first bowl in 15 years. David Cutcliffe is one of the most underrated coaches in the country, and he should receive some national recognition in the Coach of the Year balloting.

The ACC has nine automatic bowl bids, and only seven bowl eligible teams as of now. The GMAC Bowl will need to find an at-large team to fill the vacant position, and if Duke loses this week, the Eagle Bank Bowl will look to the MAC to fill that vacant slot.

Regardless of what happens in the Backyard Brawl in Morgantown this weekend, the winner of next week’s Cincinnati-Pittsburgh game will be Big East Champions and automatic BCS Bowl representative. Cincinnati could still conceivably earn an at-large BCS Bowl bid at 11-1, but that chance is slimmer than slim.

Connecticut can gain bowl eligibility with a win at home against Syracuse this weekend, and they would get another chance next week against South Florida if they faltered against the Orangemen. If the Huskies get that win, then the Big East will have six bowl eligible teams for six guaranteed spots. Notre Dame could still possibly steal the Sun Bowl/Gator Bowl spot that goes to a Big East team if the Irish beat Stanford, but it would be a disgrace for them to steal a post at 7-5. We believe Stanford will take care of business and keep Notre Dame out of the bowl picture altogether this year.

The Big 10 season is basically over. Illinois has a couple of non-conference games remaining, and the only important factor in that is they play Cincinnati this weekend. Wisconsin goes to Hawaii in two weeks, and the Outback Bowl bid could be riding on them winning the game.

It is almost a foregone conclusion that a second Big 10 team, either Iowa or Penn State, will receive an at-large BCS Bowl bid. So, there will be seven teams available for eight bowls. The Pizza Bowl (formerly Motor City Bowl) will have to look elsewhere and may be forced to invite two MAC teams.

Nebraska and Texas will face off in the Big 12 Championship Game, and the Cornhuskers may have a shot at pulling off a huge upset. We give the ‘Huskers about a 15% chance of frustrating the Longhorn offense and win ugly. If so, then another team from the Lone Star State will benefit.

After beginning the season at 5-0, Kansas finds itself in a must-win situation against Missouri at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. They must earn The Brass Drum to earn a bowl bid.

The most important game though will be the Oklahoma and Oklahoma State game in Norman. If the Cowboys beat the Sooners, they will more than likely earn an at-large BCS Bowl Bid at the expense of Boise State. The Sooners must win to guarantee themselves a winning season. The PiRate Ratings have had a devil of a time with OU this year. Even at 6-5, their power rating keeps them in the top 10. It’s hit or miss with them, as they showed how strong they are when they took Texas to the final gun.

If Kansas wins over Missouri, there will be 10 bowl eligible teams for eight guaranteed bowl spots (nine if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma). Look for Iowa State to be the odd team out of the mix.

Welcome to the conference where everything changes weekly. With SMU losing to Marshall, the door opened once again for Houston to ascend to the CUSA Championship Game. A win over Rice is all that’s needed, but all of a sudden the Owls have found their way. It could be an interesting game—at least for a half.

The East Division championship will be decided this weekend when Southern Miss visits East Carolina.

UAB can gain bowl eligibility with a win over Central Florida, but it may be a moot point. There are only five guaranteed bowl spots with a sixth if Army fails to earn the Eagle Bank Bowl bid. Six CUSA teams are already bowl eligible, and the Blazers cannot compete with Marshall or SMU in fanbase.

Central Michigan has already clinched the West Division, and the Chippewas will play the winner of this week’s Ohio U-Temple game in the MAC Championship Game.

Two teams will be playing for that important seventh win this week. Bowling Green hosts Toledo, and Kent State hosts Buffalo.

The MAC gets three guaranteed bowl bids and will get a fourth if Duke fails to beat Wake Forest and earn an Eagle Bank Bowl bid. That’s where the Bowling Green and Kent State games come into play. Both could earn bowl bids with wins, and one could even play in the Pizza Bowl against another MAC team.

TCU will manhandle New Mexico this week and then hope that either Texas A&M or Nebraska can upset Texas, Florida State can upset Florida, or Auburn can upset Alabama. The Horned Frogs need two of the big three teams ahead of them to lose. The loser of the SEC Championship Game means that either Texas must lose this week or next or the winner of the SEC Championship Game must lose this week. If one of these events happen, then TCU will be playing for the national championship in January. It’s hard to believe that this program was once as weak as Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Washington State are today.

The one team still trying to gain bowl eligibility is Wyoming. The Cowboys must beat Colorado State in Ft. Collins this week, and these two teams truly put the “war” in “Border War.” It’s not a given that Wyoming can top the 3-8 Rams.

The Pac-10 receives six automatic bowl bids, but there are seven bowl eligible teams. It looks like UCLA will miss out this year unless they can upset USC. Arizona must beat either Arizona State or USC to get to seven wins. If both the Bruins and Wildcats win seven games, then expect to see the Pac-10 receiving an extra bid to a western bowl.

This is a monster conference! With Alabama and Florida headed to Atlanta to play what will be the “Game Of The Decade” (assuming both win this week), it is a given that the loser will still play in a BCS Bowl. It isn’t completely out of the realm that if the SEC Championship game goes to overtime or is decided in regulation by a point, and if Texas loses to either Texas A&M or Nebraska, that Alabama and Florida could meet in a rematch for all the marbles.

With 10 bowl eligible teams, the SEC will place all 10 in bowls. There will be a lot of last minute shuffling because there isn’t much difference between team number three and team number 10.

Here’s where things should get interesting. Boise State is a win over Nevada away from being 12-0 and the proverbial odd team out. If Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma, the Cowboys will steal the last BCS Bowl bid at the Broncos’ expense. Then, watch for the United States Government to put their messy fingers into the college football pigpen.

Before we get into this mess, Boise State has to beat Nevada. The Wolf Pack is not a pushover, and it could easily take 50 or more points to win this game.

Of course, if the Sooners win over OSU, then it looks favorable for BSU getting into the field. Then, they would be competing against a one or two-loss Big East team and maybe a two-loss Georgia Tech team.

If Boise State moves up, then the WAC is safe with four bowls for four bowl eligible teams.

Hawaii could still sneak into the mix, but they would have to beat Navy and Wisconsin. We don’t see that happening.

Following is a report from the expressbuzz.com:

Stage is set for cotton plucking in Kalahandi district and sources said cotton will be ready for marketing next week. However, farmers are a worried lot because of the uncertainty in procurement of cotton.

This year cotton is grown on 18,292 hectares and the agriculture department expects a yield of about 2. 2 lakh quintals. Last year the major procuring agent was Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) which procured 40 percent of the 2.06 lakh quintals harvested in the district. The rest was procured by some private firms who entered into an agreement with farmers under contract farming system and others who got licences to procure cotton at mandies.

But as these private traders failed to fulfil the terms and conditions of the MoU, it has been decided that there would be no contract farming this year. Also the private traders, who participate in the procurement at mandies, have not renewed their licences this year. To add to the uncertainty, this year CCI is planning to procure cotton only at its ginning mill sight at Kesinga.

This has caused concern among farmers. In the district-level cotton development committee meeting held here recently attended by farmer representatives, district-level officials, representative of Regulated Market Committee (RMC) and CCI and cotton traders, the farmer representatives expressing concern said the CCI should procure cotton from ‘mandi’ points because it will be difficult on the part of farmers to carry their products to Kesinga from far away places.

The meeting decided that four regular mandies and two temporary mandies of RMC will operate for smooth cotton procurement. But as the private traders are yet to renew their licences to participate in the procurement in the mandies, uncertainty prevails over procurement. Farmers of the district expect active intervention of CCI this year like last year to streamline the procurement process.

If the uncertainty prevails, market-watchers say it may lead to distress sale and farmer unrest.

Well, not long after my last post, I finally received a call from P, the Japanese Bondage gentleman.

Well, not long after my last post, I finally received a call from P, the Japanese Bondage gentleman. I was so pleased to hear from him (otherwise I would have cleared my day for absolutely no reason and it would have been a week since my last client), but I was also a bit put off because he called half an hour before i was supposed to be there. I explained that if he wished, I would be more than happy to quickly get ready and get there as soon as possible. I did also remind him, however, that I usually spend about three hours getting ready for my clients and I obviously would not be able to do the same for him. He agreed and not only did he pay for my travel expenses that I mentioned before (I usually charge a flat rate if I have to go outside of my regular zones), but he paid for my cabs as well, which equalled up to about £75. I don’t normally like for my clients to spend extra money on me like that, but it was the only time we could meet and it was going to go past 12am so it was necessary.

The bondage was sensual and an amazingly different feeling. the cotton Indian rope was definitely the softest rope I have ever felt and it felt wonderful when he was running it down my body, wrapping and circling my breasts. The praise I received over the site of my breasts and then seeing them bound up, and sticking out away from my body was exhilarating. I also have to admit that I loved the aesthetic look of it all. I wish I could have videotaped the bonding. He was so very gentle with it all, unrushed and very concerned about not giving me rope burn. I was able to even keep the rope. I will definitely treasure the souvenir and practice my Japanese Breast Bondage.

Last week I blogged about the Christmas Lights turn on as an event. I did give the impression I woul

Last week I blogged about the Christmas Lights turn on as an event. I did give the impression I would be watching this event.

Sadly, I have let down go outdoors followers by not going to watch the lights with half of the city, but instead opting to go to the cinema. This was on account of the rain, which whilst not as treacherous as the fall seen down south, was a bit rubbish. Sadly, my choice to go to the flicks meant that opposed to being stuck in the rain, I was instead stuck in a sweaty auditorium with the other half of the city’s occupants who had the same idea as myself and the mister. (And who munch food. Very loudly. Ergh.)

It did give me a good idea for a relevant blog however, involving how to look good in the rain- If you absolutely have to head out, and don’t have a car, a friendly boy to take you to the cinema, or a bag full of excuses for not doing things…

Granted, if you live in Britain, you may well have spent your life adapting to a life of carrying around spare brushes and bobbles for hair freakouts courtesy of Mother Nature, but here are some ideas for looking good, without the look of a mountaineer, so whether it’s a cute winter walk, an autumnal date, or just Christmas drinks, be prepared.

(Don’t be the girl with her hair under the hand dryers in the ladies loo. Not cute.)

1.Already said it – carry a brush or a comb. Just for the ladies, this one, a man with a comb in his pocket strikes me as, politely, a fool. I’d rather see a syringe poking out of a pair of skinny jeans than a shiny silver comb I’m afraid.

2. Hair bands. Perfect for slicking back drowned rat hair, a hair band can keep the drips out of your eyes, hide the bulk of the dampness, and if you scrunch the main ‘body’ of hair at the back, you get a nice ‘I meant to look like this’ effect. We have just got in a huge batch of (cheap) and pretty awesome Buffs, which come in every style imaginable. (If you have a tasteful imagination mind- the range comprises heaps of colours and designs, skulls, roses, polka dots, flames, mountains… You name it.) These also dry off really quickly, so if you, like me, raced into the cinema with a drenched head, you can whip it off and it will be dry and snug by the time the end credits roll.

3.Gloves. Nothing is less attractive than bright red hands. It gives the look of lobster, and makes your manicure look, claw like. I should know- with a hefty dose of poor blood circulation from my gene pool, I need a glove to keep in some of my skin’s yellowness.

BUT you don’t want to offset your tulip skirt and cute military chic look with hoiking great padded gloves. Look at Thinsulate gloves, which shield you from the weather, without padding you out. Super soft and quick drying, these are perfect for inviting a spot of hand holding. PG fun all round.

4. A cute waterproof jacket is the perfect cover up. Team it with some jeans, go for classic cuts and tones and you have a winner that will last season after season. Sure, flouncy funnel necked styles made from 100% cotton may look cute on the hanger in the shop, but team the wrong coat with rain and you get the scent of wet dog, bobbling and a heaviness to rival Hulk Hogan.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, The Marmot Furlong is uber cute, and it comes with fake fur detailing. It comes in a gilet too, if you plan on making snow angels. And who isn’t?! We also have some new Nike jackets in, which look quite nice and urban. (My body is the first picture in that link, in the little fuschia number. The buyers will see it again. Soon. Ish. )

To avoid chav connotations of the Nike brand, my advice is to wear it, because they look good, and fit the weather (win) but simply avoid styling it up with trainers and a baseball cap. Oh, and stay out of underpasses. And don’t kick pigeons. Or old people.

5. Which leads me on to – hats. If you aren’t a headband girl, go for a super cute beanie hat. Dare 2B have gorgeous named hats like the Liplock, which I would buy for the name alone. Tassles, toggles, pom poms and cute colours, perfect for a cute cover up that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Wear with sleek jeans (That don’t reach the floor- no-one likes to see mud wedged into denim) your classic waterproof jacket, slim gloves and you have a gorgeous, cute, weatherproofed look. And if you refer back to number 1, when you whip off your headband or hat, you can whizz through your mane with a quick brush and you’re good to go.

A perfect, 5 step solution to keeping your cool in the rain. I love it when a plan comes together.

:]

Enjoy.

I made these, well I did not strictly make these, as the wind determined where the drips would land on the cotton. I orchestrated it in a way, by placing sheets of cotton, one at a time under a clothes line while the little hand folded, stitched and painted funnels slowly dripped indigo pigment that was mixed with oil.

So tonight I sewed ten sheets of wind records together to form a kind of book. I love the layers of cotton, it makes me want to climb into the book and go to sleep! Many people fall asleep with a book but how many people fall asleep in a book!

Currently I am trying to make some decisions about how to present and finish this work. Should it be displayed on the floor like an open book, hung from the wall or ceiling or to use the central spine as a large tent pole and open it 360 degrees with lines that you would use for a tent? Sometimes it is hard to make a decision!

This art work was made in 2000 in Doolin where we have returned to live many years later, I feel it is still relevant today, maybe even more so as our climate changes, as I write this there is a gale blowing outside, the “Gallery Closed” sign on the door goes bang bang bang!

Two more scarves finished! Both with cotton patchwork for the front side and plain poly-cotton brown fabric for the reverse. This time I added a fringe to one of the scarves.

two scarves

I don’t think I will go with the fringe again, or at least not that particular kind of fringe. I found it hard to work with – its quite slippery and getting the fringey bits to only hang vertically is awkward. I also found that as I sewed the two ends first, then one side from a to b and finally the second side from b to a, it made the scarf pull on the diagonal a little. I’m sure that could have been avoided if I had basted the fringe on to just the patchwork side first and then sewn around the entire scarf as I usually do, leaving just a small hole in the middle through which I pull it right side out. But why put myself through that again? I recall the fringe being just as awkward to work with when I made Carrie’s scarf. I would rather just use pom-poms or beads or something else when I make more scarves, if I feel the urge to embellish.

It’s Saturday, the end of the week, and that can only mean one thing… it’s time for the latest HeelZone Babe of the Week! This week, my favorite week ever because the BOTW is none other than my favorite actress and singer, and probably the only celebrity crush I have, the absolutely adorable and insanely cute… Zooey Deschanel!

Hit the jump for a video and some pictures of the beautiful Zooey.

Yes, that is indeed a Cotton, the “Fabric of our Lives” commercial and it’s included for two reasons. 1.) Zooey looks super cute in it. 2.) Zooey sings in the commercial. So as you can see, it’s a win and win for all of us, and just happens to be my favorite commercial EVER!

Love most things Zooey is in… be it Elf, Yes Man, Almost Famous, whatever she’s in I love. Especially Tin Man. She’s definitely a quirky cutie in Tin Man, which I reviewed here. I know, you clicked this to see pictures of the lovely Zooey, not see me profess my love of all things Zooey Deschanel, so pictures you shall get!

Obviously, you click those thumbnails, and you’ll see the larger version. We’ve got A LOT more Zooey Deschanel posted in the Babe Zone section of our forums, but that section is for registered members only! So what are you waiting for? Hop on over to the forums and register today for more Zooey pictures and videos.

Thing number one: A chapstick cozy: Pattern: Chapstick/Lip Balm Holder Yarn: Lily Sugar N’ Cre

Thing number one: A chapstick cozy:

Pattern: Chapstick/Lip Balm Holder
Yarn: Lily Sugar N’ Cream, colorway was like, strawberry or somesuch.
Hook: F/3.75 mm
Mods: Probably? Added a loop to attach to my keychain.

It’s functional, and that’s great. Whee, always having chapstick! I’m totally addicted.

Thing number two: A spinning FO!

Fiber: Random wool I got with a spindle on Etsy. An ounce.
Weight: About sport, I think. 2 ply.
Yardage: About 40 yards to my rudimentary measurements.
Colorway: Raspberry

Probably this will become some sort of lacy cowl because I love lacy cowls. Probably with buttons so it doesn’t have to be wide enough to get over my head. The yarn actually came out quite soft, probably due to its SOAK bath. I bought the Ravelry edition from the minimart, and I LOVE the scent. Really, it’s great.

Thing number three: A WIP shawl:

I’m using some yarn I got in a swap (the Rainbow Swap if you recall). It’s a combo yarn with strands of cotton and silk. Here, look:

The true green is the silk, I think, and the white and the teal/blue are cotton.

The shawl is looking to be quite large, which I’m cool with. I want to do some lacy edging on the edge, but I haven’t found anything I like, so I might just have a boring triangle scarf. The yarn is the prettiest part anyway.

Coming soon: Probably the FO post for the shawl cause we all know I knit like the wind (Bulls-eye). Maybe those dino mittens. Maybe I’ll knit another hat. Who the hell knows. At this point, I’m thinking about my shawl and final projects. Classes are winding down for the semester, so I’ll be studying (sort of) for finals. Fun times. Don’t worry though: Crafting will happen. Plus there’s swap things. So stay tuned. : )

Although Hogi Bag sounds less insulting to a bag this feminin and elegant. It’s a girl’s bag, not for boys!

While preparing for my trip to Amboise, it came to mind that I once bought a nice piece of fabric with the name ‘Amboise’.

What I particularly liked about this fabric, is that it’s a Parisian fabric, with tulip-like flowers on it. Since I’m Dutch and living in France, it made me decide to buy it.

Oh. And because I really, really liked it, of course.

I wasn’t really sure what bag to take with me on my trip, so I decided to turn the fabric into a roomy sized hobo-bag. Both looking elegant and casual, it’s the perfect bag! (and it makes my hips look smaller in my black dress;))

It’s big enough to put half my house in it.

So. This one is coming with me, but I’ll be most happy to sew a new one in case someone wants to have one too!

I put it in my Etsy store (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34921591), that will be closed for the next week.

Take care y’all! I’ll be back in no-time, filled with inspiration given to me by old Chateaux…

Sacha.
