Hello everyone,

Again, sorry for the length of time between posts.  I am trying to find a somewhat decent schedule to allow me to be able to do this more often.  So since CSS is pretty much the only game I have really been playing as of late, here are some skins that I like to use to make the game a little more interesting.

Lately I have put down Guildwars and have moved on to a on-line multi-player based First Person Shooter called Counter Strike Source.  Now I am sure that at least 80% of the world has heard of this game and at least 40% of it is addicted to it..haha jk.  But the jist of the game is to keep the terrorist for achieving their goal.  I mainly try to play both Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist equally as the servers I usually play on usually auto select what I am anyways.  I try to alway play teh CS_Office  map because I find it the most fun and it basically gives both teams a equal advantage against the other.

Normally if I am a Counter-Terrorist I use the Famas, Deagle, Scout, M4 and the M3.  If I am a Terrorist I usually go with Mac10, Deagle, M3, Scout and the Sig552.

Each gun is unique in its own.  Basically you have to learn how each guns recoil will affect the path of the bullets.  This has been my challenge the whole 3 years I have been playing this game.  I have learned to just accept that this game isn’t perfect and to not trust that every bullet will kill the person you are shooting at.  I’m sure some people will tell you that they unloaded a shotgun in someone’s face from 2ft away and some how they did only 20 dmg, while that person died.  That is just the nature of the beast with this game.  It really does take some practice and hand eye coordination with the cross-hairs and the mouse.  If you want to get more in depth on learning the guns of CS…just YouTube the gun and I am sure you will find loads of video on the guns recoil and spray patterns.

All of these skins are FREE and very easy to install, but don’t be surprised if there maybe one that gives you an issue.  My advice to any of you who want to do this..BACK UP YOUR CSTRIKE FOLDER before you make any changes!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you Canadians who read this blog, and a Happy Columbus Day to all of you Americans:)

Last weekend a LAN I helped to organize, Battle Royale III took place at Carleton University. It was a blast, a lot of work, tiring (24 hours long + set-up/clean-up) and a great way to meet a bunch of new gamers- like UKM from the Uber Melons. It is always a neat experience meeting gamers in person after you have seen them around on the internetz. I was also pretty psyched that my Rock Band team made semi-finals, and my PC team won a game of Counter-Strike:Source, although none of us had played in ages.

I actually missed out on the first five hours of the LAN, as I was out and about with two other organizers buying about $900 more of great prizes, when we learned that our budget was actually in the green! I’m a fan of shopping, but not when it means missing out on a LAN! We ended up picking up a lot of great stuff such as an XBOX 360, Racing wheel for the XBOX, about 30 usb thumbdrives, and a Rock Band 2 set.

It is a little bitter-sweet now to have the event in the past… every week this summer I would meet up with the other organizers to brainstorm on how to make the LAN great, and I spent a lot of my free time contacting sponsors (ended up wrangling EA, Valve, Bawls, G4 Canada, and SteelSeries!) and coordinating details for the LAN. It was a really exciting day, and I’m sad that it is over now. I am looking to being more of a participant, though, at the next LAN

Ein schöner Abend neigt sich dem Ende zu. Zuerst eine Runde Left 4 Dead, in der sich die Rage Quitter nur so die Klinke in die Hand drückten, und daraufhin eine Partie Counter Strike:Source Gun-Game mit einem ganz speziellen Kandidaten.

Dieser Kandidat, nennen wir ihn mal Mister X (obwohl ich zu gern seinen Spielernamen hier veröffentlichen würde, aber wir wollen ja mal nicht so sein…) hatte ‘an’. Ein Aimbot vom Feinsten. Mister X Headshot, Mister X Multikill, Mister X Godlike … ich könnte ewig so weitermachen. Ganz großes Kino. Da haben wir es uns natürlich nicht nehmen lassen, das Ganze einmal aufzuzeichnen. Damit Steam so etwas Hübsches auch mal zu sehen bekommt.

Während ich dem Treiben eine Weile zusah, schwankte meine Gefühlslage zwischen Entsetzen, Ungläubigkeit und Faszination. Letzteres aber nur deshalb, weil ich einen AB noch nie zuvor live und in Farbe bewundern durfte. Das Fadenkreuz zielte nicht etwa auf die Person, nein, es nahm gezielt die Hitboxen in’s Visier. Fast schien es so, als würde es von den Gegnern förmlich “angesaugt”. Völlig logisch also, dass Mister X eine nach der anderen Runde für sich und sein schmutziges Spiel entscheiden konnte.

Während im Chat die anderen Spieler meuterten, kopierte ich mir in aller Seelenruhe die Steam-ID des Übeltäters. Die landet dann, zusammen mit der Demo, morgen im email-Posteingang von Steam. Und dann kann ich nur hoffen, dass sich unser “geschätzter” Mister X ein neues CS:S zulegen muss. Allein das wäre es mir wert.

Versteht mich nicht falsch, ich bin keine Petze oder so, aber bei sowas hört der Spaß definitiv auf. Wer cheatet, hat keinen Respekt vor Anderen und versucht durch billige Tricks sein Image aufzupolieren. Ich habe keinerlei Verständnis für solche Menschen. Kann mir einmal jemand erklären, was die davon haben??? Ich weiß nur eins: stolz auf ihre Leistung können sie nicht sein. Aber das ist Cheatern ja sowieso meist ziemlich egal. Traurig, das alles.

Was ich besonders interessant finde, ist die Tatsache, dass Dir die Dinger ja förmlich nachgeschmissen werden. Gebt mal bei google Wallhack, Aimbot, Speedhack etc ein. Es werden Euch ne Menge Seiten angezeigt, auf denen Ihr das Zeugs problemlos runterladen könnt. Die kann man dann oft auch getrost auf einem VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) -gesicherten Server nutzen. Bin begeistert. Manchmal kommt es mir so vor, als wäre “Fair play” schon total aus der Mode…

Ever since the first games-minded electronics whiz decided to stick a few buttons on a box and call it a console, one of the most popular genres to rise through the gaming world has been the first person shooter.

Hours of intense gameplay whittled away in a small room with low lights, only broken by the odd bathroom break and short breaks for sleep, soon turned the most avid gamers into sun-starved hermits, fuelled by take-aways and caffeine. But before-long even the most dedicated of console-addicts can feel a little bit lonely, which is why the art of multiplayer gaming was developed, keeping those reclusive gamers connected to the outside world.

There have been many games developments to intensify the experience of multiplayer gaming. Such classic arcade titles as Time Crisis and House of the Dead are now accessible in the home, as wireless technology pioneered by the Wii, coupled with games such as Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles recreates the experience in your living room.

While the Wii has this technological advantage, the PS3 and Xbox more than make up for it with their high-quality internet access, making multiplayer console action a seamlessly enjoyable experience that was previously only available on the PC.

With all the improvements, first-person shooters are in many ways better than they have ever been, but out of this vast genre some games do stand out as being a superior combination of multiplayer action and blazing gunfire.

Here’s a look at some of the best.

5- GoldenEye 007

Despite being over a decade old, there is something timeless about the N64 classic which still remains a heart-felt favourite for many fans of the first person shooter.
Following the film closely, the game encourages the combination of stealth and cunning with generic gunfighting techniques in a sophisticated adaptation. With enticingly realistic graphics for its time, GoldenEye remains a nostalgic gem, setting the precedent for future multiplayer development.

4- Counter Strike: Source

One of the most intimidating multiplayer experiences for first time gamers has to be Counter Strike. The moment a new player steps into the fray, they are often set upon by a horde of seasoned Counter Strike veterans like a lame gazelle in a lion’s den. However, once you surpass this baptism of fire (literally, since you’ll be under fire
for some time), the engaging graphics and stunning teamplay action are more than worth the initial onslaught.

With realistic battle details, such a lower accuracy during motion shooting, and unpredictable recoil with repetitive fire, Counter Strike: Source is a brilliant remake of the original Counter-Strike, combining classic team-based objective action with extensive community customisation to produce a unique, personalised gaming experience.

3- Halo 3

Battling alien races is all in a day’s work for enhanced supersoldier Master Chief as he defends 26th Century humanity in this eagerly awaited ending to the Halo trilogy. The backdrop of a space-aged war against alien collective, the Covenant, with the aid of human Marines and allied alien race the Elites, creates a diverse scope of weaponry, settings and enemies to toy around with. Team this up with stunning visual graphics and numerous multiplayer missions and you’re easily looking at one of the most popular online shooters on the market.

2- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

From outlandish to realism, Call of Duty’s approach to combat is far more identifiable for the modern day. Set in the not-too-distant future in the midst of a fictional war, the player completes overlapping missions and objectives to give various perspectives of the story. Multiplayer performance is tracked with experience points, unlocking weapons and upgrades and giving the player customisability over their character for a challenging scope of individuality throughout the levels.

1- Left 4 Dead

Unlike the majority of first-person shooters on the market, Left 4 Dead was made for multiplayer. Navigating your way through levels with a group of four very different characters, the aim of the game- survival- is complicated by hordes of infected, as well as a number of specially evolved creatures which need specific tactics to surpass them.
The tactical element is highly encouraged in this game, as is the co-operation of the 4 players. If one person leaves the group they seldom last long, and it’s generally taken to be quite bad manners. The interspred crescendo events also give the opportunity for planning, such as contacting the rescue vehicle at the end and holding your defensive positions until it arrives.
Left 4 Dead has taken multiplayer first-person action to a higher standard and, with an eagerly awaited sequel on the way, expectations for the genre are climbing ever higher.

As a some of you may know, my steam account is in the process of getting its password reset. In the meantime I had to find something to do, when i stumbled into something very special in the back closets.

It was my copy Half Life, before steam including Counter Strike 1.5, given to me as a gift for my 6th birthday by my Uncle John, although I didn’t play it much at the time I still have fond memories of sitting in the living room on a chilly November afternoon, my Dad watching the football (soccer) my Nan either trying to speed run a wizword or scanning through the Liverpool Echo and then there was me, sitting in the living room on the Packard Bell trying to figure out this Counter Strike thing while my Mum would bring over Hot Chocolate.

They were good times then 5 years afterwords, Half Life 2 and Counter Strike: Source was released and I remembered the name but the games are not the same and really sort of break my heart, There wasn”t the reunion with an old friend which I had imagined but rather a sort of impostor concealed behind the CS name, but ill get to that in my next post, for now while I anxiously await the return of my account I recorded some 1.5 AWP action against PodBot 2.5 to hold me over.

We all love Counter-Strike: Source. Don’t we? At least some of us like to think that we do. Sure, it’s almost 5 years old and the Source engine is getting rather old now. But everyone still loves it for what it is. Well, maybe not everyone…
I for one still enjoy the concept, but everything else is just downright annoying. Here’s a short list of the most vexatious things that I can think of:

Experts – You’ve seen them haven’t you? They’re so bloody good that’s it’s like playing with AI bots. They make me want to rip out my own intestines and strangle my monitor. One moment your heading towards the enemy’s base, the next you’ve been shot in the head from all the way on the other side of the map with a fucking pistol. Is this bad programming or are these people just that good?

Snipers – Especially if that’s all they use. As soon as a round starts they run to the nearest long corridor and wait for the opposing team to pop up, only slightly, and BOOM HEADSHOT! That red line of death pours down the corridor and slices straight through your cranium not offering you any chance of dodging it, no matter how hard you try.

Campers – All games have them, but CSS campers are some of the worst. Ever.

Bunny hoppers – Again, lots if not most games have them. But in CSS it is truly annoying when trying to shoot someone while they’re prancing up and down your screen firing bullets down your throat.

Door huggers – People that crouch next to doors carrying shotguns and own people that walk past. FUCK OFF! All you’re getting is cheap kills and you’re annoying everyone, sometimes even your own team!

Crowds – Picture this: You enter a room full of teammates, desperately looking for someone to kill but all of your buddies just stand around like ostriches and prevent you from leaving the room. Then someone from the opposing team waltzes in pwns your arse.

Grenade spammers – I saved the best (or should that be worst?) til last. All you want is a nice quiet game but instead you get this message constantly being fed through your radio – “Fire in the hole!” You are then bombarded with explosions or blinding white lights and the next thing you know you’re face down in the dirt with a bullet in your brain.

CSS was fun once, but not anymore. Practically everyone that still plays it knows every map inside out and has mastered every single thing you can do to guarantee that no one can kill them easily. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the hackers…

And before any of you say anything, I don’t just suck at CSS. Go onto it now and try to get the highest number of kills in cs_office with the max number of players, take a screenshot and post it here. I dare you.
