The LA electro pop duo Carousel have released a new track “Dancing On My Own” which is a cover of Robyn. Carousel really did a fantastic job giving “Dancing On My Own” chill synthesizers and really good crisp vocals. This kind of music is simply irresistible to have around during the summertime. Here’s another recent track they released that we enjoyed called “Another Day.”

Not the best version out there, obviously, as this is a fairly simplified version learnt from a Synthesia video on Youtube and then just mixed my own way. HOWEVER, it’d be nice to get some feedback on the production and overall sound quality. Even though I did this in a fairly simplified version, I just wanted to do it full stop! It’d had been nice to be able to do a crazy remix full of tons of different instruments but a simple piano version was enough to please me, as it’s one of my favourite FF tracks.

Good news! Girl’s Day is coming back. Bad news. The cover looks like a hot mess but at least the press release makes up for it.

Girl’s Day may have demolished hearts and minds everywhere with ‘Expectation’ and all the wonderful suspender action that came with it but it appears that the girls want a second go at doing all the comebacks and fan service necessary to become one of the premiere K-Pop girl acts of 2013. It’s too bad that the first impression of Girl’s Day’s upcoming repackaged album is the above cover.

The initial image of the cover looks like something out of a deranged horror dollhouse by way of Barnum and Bailey’s and Downtown Abbey. The “Female President” tag on the podium gives a hint of the probable single for the album but what is with Girl’s Day? Why does it look like Sojin’s makeup was put on in the dark by a monkey? Why are Sojin, Hyeri and Yura wearing Burger King crowns? What the hell type of pattern is on Minah’s dress (seriously, nooses?). At least Yura looks transcendent as ever.

The more positive news is the press release that was given out with this cover. It’s like Dream Tea Entertainment knew they would have to assuage fears over this album cover:

This album’s concept is ‘a mix of confidence and sexiness’. Their songs, choreography, and outfits are all sexy and sophisticated. The girls are working really hard on their song and choreography for the comeback.

Gotta love it. In three sentences the label emphasizes sexiness, choreography, sexiness and choreography. Put through the K-Pop bullshit translator, the press release reads more like this:

We know that this album cover looks like TTS 2.0 but have no fear, because much like TTS, the cover will have next to nothing to do with the single. Girl’s Day will be doing a “sexy” but “sophisticated” dance so please don’t call it “trashy” because After School just did pole dancing for fuq sake, thus blowing the door wide open of the possibilities for sophisticated. The girls are working very hard towards incorporating so much sex and class into their next release that you, the fans, will think you have been transported into God’s own Gentleman’s Club. Also, Hyeri may actually make out with Yura this time. But it’ll be full of confidence and sophistication. Oh, and free hug events. All the free hug events. But they’ll be sexy and sophisticated as well. Have we mentioned that Girl’s Day will be doing a sexy comeback. Make sure you get that down. Sexy.

I must say I’m looking forward to it. A sexy concept and Yura can never go wrong. Just lose the visual vomit that is that album cover please.

#169 The Traveller Part 2

I’ve been so excited about Djinn and it’s been going so well that I decided to start looking into my cover art. Some of you might think this is a little premature but I’m just so excited and I’ve known for a while who I wanted to work with as my cover artist.

Phat Puppy Art is an amazing cover artist who has worked with many famous authors to get their novels looking stunning. I knew Claudia was the one the moment I saw her work for the first time and now I think it’s finally time that I see if she can, ake my dreams come true.

I’ve always had the idea in my head of what I wanted the cover to look like and I’m hoping Phat Puppy Art will be able to interpret what’s in my head into print.

And she did. Claudia was absolutely amazing. She came up with a mock up the day after I told her what I was looking for and then we spent a few hours emailing back and forth while she made adjustments according to what I wanted. She was really great at listening to be, especially when I thought I was being super picky sometimes. Eventually we ended up with exactly what I wanted. I’m so pleased with her work and 100% glad I chose her to be my cover artist. I will definitely go back to use her again in the future and recommend others to use her work too.

Now that the cover art is done I just have to decide on fonts for the cover. I had a hard time deciding who I wanted to do the fonts. I’d spent a lot of money already on the cover (money I’m glad I spent but still a lot) and I wasn’t sure how much more I was willing to spend.

I ended up going all out and hired Ashley from Bookish Brunette to do the fonts. I’d seen the work Ashley had done on other books and was thoroughly impressed.

We contacted each other via email. I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for but Ashley is very good at what she does. When she sent Djinn’s covee back to me completed I was more than excited to share my cover with the world.

In the end I was extremely happy with my cover and glad I spent the money to get it professionally done.

First of all sorry that I didn’t keep you guys updated for such a long time! Since I don’t have to attend university at the moment (summer holiday!) I decided to fly back to Germany and work with Louisa Models, one of the best model agencies in Germany! I want to let you guys know, that, if you want to work as a booker or manage models, you definitely should intern in a model agency. I had so much fun the last 3 weeks and hopefully will still have fun for the next 2 months.

Since I’m so in love with my internship I wanted to share a few pictures of Julia Stegner. For those who don’t know her (you better inform yourself from now on about her ;P). My boss Louisa von Minckwitz discovered her. Here a few informations:

She was discovered in Germany at the OKTOBERFEST (yes we all love Bavaria!) at the age of 14 and has become one of the best models in the whole, wide world….and the best part…she actually is German (German pride!). She is currently living in America, as far as I know New York, and is living an amazing life. She had her break through in 2003, opening the Yves Saint Laurent Fashion show. From 2005 until 2011 Julia was a Victoria Secret Angel. Furthermore she has world wide advertising contracts with Maybelline, Chloé, H&M, Dolce & Gabbana, Guerlain and so on. Sounds pretty cool right? Well, guess what she has been not one 1 or 2 BUT 20 VOGUE COVERS.
