Jose Padro CPA, Doral

When a Social Democracy is forced against plain and simple Democracy, the future cost for generations to come is normally ignored, bringing the consequences that we are living now.

It’s sad that when we look back at President Clinton’s Community Reinvestment Act in which the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) increased the home ownership opportunities for those borrowers that were at the time un-served or under-served by the private mortgage markets (and with good reason to do it), failed in a way that may have bankrupt our country and the future of many generations to come.

The perfect storm that has occurred may be directly related to the irresponsible homeownership legislation that wanted to make renters without the ability to purchase and maintain a home , owners in the land of opportunity, were all dreams comes true.

Not everyone can afford a home, many people that did purchased a home with very little down payment and very low income, are the main reason of the real estate boom and its demised, and most of those foreclosed homeowners are back were they started, renting a home. We must brake free from our homeownership cult, homeownership is not always the right choice.

Yes, the fall began with President Bush and is in a freefall with President Obama. It has been over the years that the most costly entitlements have been under Democrats and what is happening now is President Obama and the democratic congress responsibility. We have no means to afford a Healthcare Bill that will increase taxes in already battered American taxpayers. The squeeze the rich to increase entitlements has brought this nation to its knees and with no political answer to Social Security and Medicare. The continued printing of U.S. Dollars will only bring inflation and no solutions.

The short-term thinking of our “I want to get elected and/or continue in congress” at any cost have our society thinking, what will be of us, the millions of American that are not late in their mortgages, are not late with their credit card payments, that pay their taxes, that believe in God, that pray every day, that send their children to private school because the public system has failed, that do not depend in government.

What will be of us, when current politicians keep the “real American dream” under chains and destroy our future, piece by piece, legislation by legislation.

Yes, we have a voice. Yes, we have the power that democracy gives us. Yes, we need to protect our country. Yes, we need to protect our children. Yes, we need to protect our present and our future. Yes, we must vote against the politicians that are playing the politics game. We need leaders that will bring us back to the country that our forefathers dreamed for them and for us.

Hello virtual friends First I like to say thanks for visiting, I’m amazed at how many hits I g

Hello virtual friends

First I like to say thanks for visiting, I’m amazed at how many hits I got last week and that has spurred me on to write this brief introduction to my business plan.

Originally I was looking for was something that was potentially recession proof. My first idea was to spread risk by creating a network of mini sites selling or promoting different products. The second part of the plan was to maximise profit by going after the highest commissions I could find i.e. anything in the range of 30 to 70% I will show you how to find these commissions.

In essence the idea was to research profitable niches, follow other peoples success and build on it. It’s not as difficult as you might imagine and there are several ways to achieve this.

Looking at review sites is a good way to start. Amazon is good and studies by independent research groups have shown that rating and review sites influence consumer shopping behaviour and large companies have begun to mention online reviews in television advertisements and on the back of receipts.

Adverts that you might notice on sites you visit regularly that run continuously are obviously profitable ( nobody is going to pay money to advertise if they are not making a profit).

Forum Searching for related products once you have found a niche, for example learning Spanish or in my case Solar Energy. If your stuck, Google key phrases or visit a site like Clickbank. There are also a variety of free tools that can be used to speed this process up which I will cover later.

Internet Marketing (IM) is a multi billion dollar industry, which is still quite young with areas that are growing rapidly like CPA (cost per action) where large amounts of money can and are being made. Cost Per Action or CPA (sometimes known as Pay Per Action or PPA) is an online advertising pricing model, where the advertiser pays for each specified action (a purchase, a form submission, and so on) linked to the advertisement.

Direct response advertisers consider CPA the optimal way to buy online advertising, as an advertiser only pays for the ad when the desired action has occurred. An action can be a product being purchased, a form being filled, etc. The desired action to be performed is determined by the advertiser. The CPA can be determined by different factors, depending where the online advertising inventory is being purchased.

Every time you turn on your computer and surf the web you become part of an intricate game, the trick is to be awake to it. You might not realise it but we are all subtly manipulated and are part of this vast battle as literally millions of companies and sites compete for our traffic. In order to be successful at Internet Marketing (IM) you need to know what kinds of traffic there are and how to manipulate them to your own advantage, for instance pay per click traffic (PPC).

The good news is that there are easy to follow strategies. You don’t have to go of piste for this just follow in the footsteps of those that have gone before. Don’t worry though, it’s not worth getting heated up about at this stage as all we need to do is find one method that works for us to start generating income.

Profitable niches can be broken into categories and generally speaking people will often want to improve some aspect of their life or search for information because they have a problem that needs fixing.

Ask yourself this:

why do you use the internet?

What is it that you do when you go online?

The internet is a tool for searching for information. What I aim to do is to show you how to profit from providing that information. This could be to do with health (such as fitness or weight loss) or something to do with parental rights even, maybe they have a problem with their plumbing or are looking for advise on cosmetic surgery. Whatever it is, the chances are there will be an information product or advertising campaign that you can become affiliated too.

Any area where information is important and has a sense of immediacy can be called a critical niche. There are many other types of niche, our role is to target these groups and promote relevant information on a commission basis.

If you have found this interesting have any questions please feel free to leave comments.

What next.… The plan is revealed …drum role please . Coming soon free ebook packed with information….don’t miss it.

see you next time

In case you forgot, I’m still…uh, studying for the CPA Exam. I took and passed two parts

In case you forgot, I’m still…uh, studying for the CPA Exam.

I took and passed two parts of the 4-part exam this year. That means…2 more to go.

However, while I was very disciplined about studying daily over the spring and summer for the first two tests, this fall my studying has dwindled significantly. Several personal and family related things have come up that have taken up a lot of my time and energy. Plus, since I was sick all week, my head felt like a hot-air balloon which doesn’t help studying along too much.

But it’s not just that, the section I’m studying now – Regulation (tax & law) - is kicking my behind. I’ve been working on Chapter 1 for like a month. Partly because I’m not on a disciplined study schedule and partly because I’m not picking up the material as quickly as I did for the parts I’ve already passed. Who knew Capital Gains & Losses were so confusing! No wonder people hire CPAs to do their taxes!

It was my original goal to take Regulation by the end of November, and clearly that’s not gonna happen. No one can sit for the exam in December, so my next date is the first week of January. That means I’ve got 41 days to get my little butt into gear and hit the books.

Another thing that is really holding me back is section 4. It is looming over my head like a huge black storm cloud. I decided to take the hardest and biggest part of the exam last. That beast goes by the name of Financial Accounting & Reporting. I am deathly afraid of it. CPAs who made it out alive from that particular test recommend a good 3 months of studying for it. *shiver*

All I’ve wanted to do for the past 2 months is have fun and not think about studying…AKA procrastinate. But, the longer I push back the CPA, the longer my life is put on hold. Did I mention that I have to pass the next two tests by next November? So that means if I fail a test, I have to re-take it and pass the other by then. It sounds easy, but many people have missed the deadline before, and I don’t want to be one of them.

Wish me good luck, willpower, and the discipline to study! I’ll need it!

Those who have worked around Internet Marketing have certainly heard of CPA networks help stay-at-ho

Those who have worked around Internet Marketing have certainly heard of CPA networks help stay-at-home individuals earn a good amount of money in just a few months.

To fully understand the whole process and to differentiate whether it’s just hype or an authentic endeavour, you must have a full understanding about the concept of CPA. CPA simply means Cost per Action. This means that this method of affiliate marketing helps you earn money for every action or lead that you have created.

With CPA, it is not necessary that you make a sale to get rewarded as with other forms of affiliate marketing. Just by getting an email address, zip code, or getting a form of personal details filled by a visitor is enough to get you paid. This way, a website’s conversion rate is higher in comparison with other methods of affiliate marketing that pays you after a sale has been concluded.

If you desire to be a CPA affiliate marketer, just apply to be one. It could take a couple of days or a week from the filing of the application to the approval. Right now, there are several organizations or companies that can help you in this procedure. They will be your source of connection between the main publisher and the affiliate. You can promote as many products as you wish for you are not restricted with just one project.

You have the power to simultaneously promote more than one product at a time then get paid through the main CPA network. This network will be the one responsible for controlling all of your campaigns. Be as it may, getting into a CPA network is not that easy. When you apply, once you are approved, work can start immediately so you can direct all your targeted traffic towards your web page.

CPA networks are definitely one of the best productive businesses in the web. Plan in advance how you would direct traffic for your website. If you are unsure of your plans, then you have an option of media buys and PPC to help you gather your target traffic.

Now, bear in mind that it is most necessary to identify and select the right campaign and how to implement it. You must also have an exemplary landing page, as well as a specific amount of targeted traffic for all your websites. When you have satisfied these requirements, then you will be able to locate the best CPA affiliate program that would give you more than what you have expected.

There are a lot of gurus online who can tell you more about CPA but I have heard about someone popular who earns six figures NET per day. He’s Aymen of Arbitrage Conspiracy.

Sometimes, I think society looks at accounting like they do mortuary science; something that’s

Sometimes, I think society looks at accounting like they do mortuary science; something that’s necessary for society to function but everyone is happy that someone else is available to do it! Afterall, paying taxes and contemplating death aren’t exactly the sort of things that get most people very excited.

I ran across this article and I thought I’d share especially given the poor job outlook. Fortunately, the job outlook does not impact every profession evenly and here’s one where demand is actually up. Anyone looking to retool for a second career or who wants to push their kids toward a degree that will pay off should definitely consider accounting as a career choice.

Having been in the profession for over 30 years, I’ve seen the ups and downs, but now we’re entering the golden age of the profession largely due to increasingly complex accounting and tax regulations and a distinct shortage of people. This shortage has been a problem over the last 10-15 years or so as younger people chose other careers due to the rigors of meeting the 150 credit hour requirement to get an accounting degree and dealing with passing the uniform certified public accountant’s examination. The CPA examination is an extremely challenging professional examination and less than 10% of those who sit pass all parts at the first sitting. However, passing that exam is a must if one wants to have maximum flexibility with this career choice. There’s about an eight year commitment to meet the educational, testing and experience requirements to be a CPA if you don’t have a degree already. If you do have a degree, you can probably decrease that time by half. I guess the time commitment is a downside on the one hand, but on the other, it represents a barrier to entry as everyone is not going to have the wherewithal to slog through.

The shortage of CPA’s is going to be exacerbated by the looming retirement of baby boomers from the profession as those coming up to replace us aren’t as numerous as those who are retiring. Some project that this event will be a crisis of sorts for the public as it will become increasingly difficult to secure the services of a CPA. Even now, many CPA’s simply turn down work because they either lack the time or resources to take projects on.

One of the biggest changes in the profession is the number of women who have entered it. Currently, over half of all CPA’s are women and this often dovetails nicely with balancing family and work commitments as many firms are open to part-time workers who prefer to work from home. Nowadays, technology is such that most accounting work can be done by people working remotely from home. As a matter of fact, I hired two women CPA’s, one of whom is a full time at home mom, this past year who work remotely for me and all of us absolutely love the situation. For them there’s no commute and for me I have access to well experienced competent help without the limitation of my immediate location which has helped me address the shortage of help problem.

The main skills you need to pursue an accounting career are strong math/ logic skills and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Just something to put on your short list of careers to consider if you need to retool.

Demand for Accountants to Remain Strong in 2009

Despite the current recession, demand for accountants remains strong. Although a number of industries are cutting back, the accounting industry projects jobs to maintain at their current rate or possibly increase. In fact, the 2008 Trends in the Supply of Accounting Graduates and the Demand for Public Accounting Recruits from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), 91% percent of accounting firms expect hiring to remain steady or increase. And as the New Year begins, the role of accountants continues to expand along with employment opportunities. Today accountants and their clients are facing increasing regulatory complexity, the need for specialization, the globalization of businesses and shifting demographics. According to AccountingWeb.com, “Given the heightened regulatory environment in which we operate, mastery over the hard skills of being a Certified Public Accountant is more important than ever before.”

Executive search firm, A.E. Feldman says today’s accountants are emerging as financial managers and leaders within their organizations. Right now as companies look to cut costs and continue to be confronted by the increasing complexities of changing tax laws and regulations there is a heightened focus on hiring qualified accountants. A. E. Feldman reports that firms are showing strong interest in professionals who can help their companies reduce inefficiencies and enhance profitability as well as those who have a familiarity with enterprise risk management applications. The positions currently in demand include staff and senior accountants and credit and collections specialists. Existing opportunities include, tax manager jobs, audit jobs, international tax jobs, and business valuation jobs.

Amid recession, CPA firms are thriving. They are not only gearing up for tax season, but companies attempting to cut costs and struggle through the recession are realizing the importance of good financial controls which requires the expertise of accountants. One example of this growth is certified public accounting and business advisory firm, Plante & Moran, which says it is flourishing despite the turbulence. The Detroit News reports the firm has expanded or opened four offices, hired more than 100 people, invested more than $4 million in technology upgrades and celebrated its 25th year of increased earnings.

Plante & Moran is not alone. A large majority of CPA firms report two years of continuing strong growth, according to the 2008 National Management of Accounting Practice survey by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. Although the ongoing financial crisis will undoubtedly change the marketplace conditions facing CPAs, the AICPA study released in November 2008, finds the vast majority, 75%, of the 2,722 CPA firms surveyed reported growth of up to 19% over the past two years – a significant 40% increase from the previous 2006 survey.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow a significant 18% between 2006 and 2016 – faster than the average of all occupations. In keeping with this projection, a recent report on AccountingWeb.com argues that as Baby Boomers retire, the industry is on the verge of the greatest “candidate markets” of all time – especially as it relates to financial professionals. The report states, “Consider this: corporations have to hire added CPAs for SOX maintenance and internal audit roles at the same time Big Four firms are projected to increase staffing levels for similar functions by as much as 20 percent!” AccountingWeb goes on to say that CPAs who master the requisite skills and build out complementary new ones will find themselves well positioned to benefit both personally and financially from expanded career options in the coming years.

Demands on the accounting profession, however, continue to change in unexpected ways, according to a nationwide CCH survey. Specifically, increasing regulatory complexity, the need for specialization and the globalization of businesses are complicating matters for a number of firms. According to AccountingWeb.com, “Given the heightened regulatory environment in which we operate, mastery over the hard skills of being a Certified Public Accountant is more important than ever before.” These “hard skills” include: creating efficiencies across all accounting and finance functions, managing budgets, costs, and assets, maintaining accurate records and verifying financial results.

The report adds however that “soft skills” such as communication and diplomacy are increasingly playing a key role in distinguishing the truly high-functioning CPAs. “To be a top CPA in today’s business environment, you must have more than just great analytical skills. Possessing polished skills in four areas will be a key differentiator: teamwork, patience, problem solving and listening,” states AccountingWeb.com.

Looking ahead, accountants who take on a mentorship role within their organizations will help position themselves as a top CPA today and into the future, says AccountingWeb.com.

How can a Virtual Office help you?

Case Study: Ken
Type of Business: CPA
Location: Upper East Side, NY
Services: New York Virtual Office, Meeting Room Usage, Voice Mail with Email Notification.

Ken was a CPA employed by a major accounting firm in New York. His story is similar to a lot of our clients – he worked 9-5 at the accounting firm while running his own small tax advisory business on the side.

He never intended on starting his own firm, it sort of just happened. He first started doing taxes for his family-gratis. His family started recommending Ken to their friends allowing Ken to start pulling-in extra money on the side… Ken eventually got super busy, especially around tax time. After several years he decided it was time to open his own firm.

He didn’t want unnecessary high overhead costs since he was only busy during tax time. Ken also didn’t want to rent just a PO Box or basic mailbox service, so he decided that a NYC virtual office was the way to go. After researching several companies, he selected VH International Business Solutions to manage his New York business presence because of the Company’s experience and professionalism.

For starters, Ken subscribed to our business address rental (virtual office) and 212 Manhattan voice mail service.

With his virtual office up and running, Ken worked steadfastly on growing his small firm. Tax time referrals were great, but he knew he needed more than just seasonal work if his firm was to survive. In order to do that he needed steady year round work. The ideas of bookkeeping and payroll services were on his agenda, he knew that that would provide steady year-round income.

He started advertising his small firm using his NYC virtual office address and phone number provided by VH International Business Solutions; inquiries started to pour in bit by bit. Ken would usually visit his prospective clients at their place of business as this was their preference, but he knew that he could always rent the available meeting space on an as needed basis at his Manhattan virtual office.

Ken uses the meeting room regularly and often during tax time. For the past several years, especially from January through April, Ken is at the office so often it’s almost like he’s one of the staff. He meets with his tax clients in the office for consultations and to review all of their filing information. He comes prepared with his cup of coffee, laptop, the client’s records, details and collects their paperwork; Ken works on the actual filings in his home office.

If a client stops into the office without an appointment to drop off any paperwork, our receptionist accepts their documents. Ken arranges to pick these up during his meeting room visits.

He receives all his business correspondence, including payments, at his New York City virtual office; and depending on Ken’s schedule, we either hold his mail for pickup or forward it on a daily basis during his busy season and on a monthly basis during his down time.

Messages left on Ken’s 212 phone number with voice mail provided by VH International Business Solutions are forwarded to his email; he also receives a text message alerting him to check messages. He just advised us that starting in January 2010, he will be upgrading his phone service to include call forwarding. Hence, he can answer his incoming calls directly, all calls would be forwarded straight to his cell phone.

We are proud to have Ken and his CPA firm as one of our valued clients and we’re enjoying watching his firm grow!

Jude Mathurine from Rhodes University has an interesting presentation on the impact of mobile phone based use of social networks in Africa.

I’ve not yet come across a comparable study of new media’s use and impact in Sri Lanka, but the points on slides 3 and 7, noting that the Internet is still an elite medium in Africa, holds true here as well. Jude points to traditional media’s inability to grasp the potential of new media. Many examples of this can also be found in Sri Lanka, including for example this recent post of mine and the use of Wikipedia by the Sunday Times.

Jude’s more interesting submissions are in the slides that follow, looking at the growth of the mobile web in Africa and the use of SMS for citizen journalism. Mobiles in Sri Lanka are still used far more for entertainment and one-to-one communications than as a tool for participating in governance and public oversight. The participation in new forms of journalism through mobiles is not yet prevalent in Sri Lanka, where web access is still largely through PCs. Of late, several mobile phone companies have been running advertisements for mobile phone based Facebook access, but again, the potential of this for organising flash mobs, or even just the dissemination of information, is poor. Services such as JNW pioneered the use of SMS as a platform for the dissemination of news, but few NGOs have picked up freely available technologies like FrontlineSMS to aid their advocacy and outreach. Mainstream media in Sri Lanka remains locked into a PC dominated mindset at best – there is not a single traditional media site that is mobile phone friendly. LBO and Groundviews remain the only websites that render content automatically for mobile phone screens.

Jude’s conclusion that social media can be important space for public discourse on democratisation and development especially among youth is reflected in Sri Lanka as well, through existing examples such as Pissu Poona on Facebook and new forms of dissent online that emerged during and just after the end of war.

Best practices and potential for improved information flows in media and civil society is a field and desk research based report published by the Centre for Policy Alternatives I edited in December 2008 that looks closely at how civil society and NGOs in Sri Lanka can use traditional, alternative and new media techniques in their advocacy. Jude’s conclusions resonate widely and deeply in the recommendations proposed.

Welcome for a lesson on Social Media Terms. You know how you are always doing something but it never

Welcome for a lesson on Social Media Terms.

You know how you are always doing something but it never occurs to you what you are doing it until someone points it out?
Well, I’m sure that Continuous Partial Attention is a term you will find close to the scenario I just described.

Ok, so what the hell is Continuous Partial Attention?

Here’s what wikipedia says:

The term Continuous Partial Attention (CPA) was coined by Linda Stone in 1998. Author Steven Berlin Johnson describes this as a kind of multitasking: “It usually involves skimming the surface of the incoming data, picking out the relevant details, and moving on to the next stream. You’re paying attention, but only partially. That lets you cast a wider net, but it also runs the risk of keeping you from really studying the fish.”Continuous partial attention is about scanning continuously for opportunities across a network, not solely about optimizing one’s time by multitasking.

Alright, sounds familiar? No? Let me give you an example:

You are typing your blog entry for the submission of nct and then your msn messenger conversation pops up – a close friend is talking you on msn. You stop blogging for a while and replies the conversation. Then while waiting for you friend to reply, you click onto one of your many tabs in firefox, which is

(A) Twitter or
(B) Facebook.

If your answer is (A), proceed to (C)
If your answer is (B), proceed to (D)

(C) You see an interesting tweet and re-tweets it.
(D) Your friend just sent you a Cafe world gift and you accept it, then going to Cafe World to check up on your Cafe earnings.

5 minutes later, you go back to wordpress and continue on your blogging.

Yes, you are guilty of Continuous Partial Attention.

Many ask, What’s the difference between CPA and multi-tasking?
Sinkai says that the greatest difference is that you multi-task to get many work done fast and efficiently, while CPA allows you to participate in many work but slows down your efficiency in the main job.

If that’s the case, isn’t CPA bad?
You may say so, so why do many of us participate in CPA then? Experts says that it’s because there is this need for us to stay connected with people. Think of it, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Msn messengers, aren’t they all tools of some sort that you use to connect with your friends and family? Which explains why there are some people who refuse to sign in to msn messenger or other social networking websites when they are studying as they are afraid of being distracted.

And just in case you are still confused the meaning of CPA…

To pay continuous partial attention is to pay partial attention — CONTINUOUSLY

PS: It would have took me half an hour to type this entry but due to my participation in CPA (Cafe World’s cooking!), it took me an hour. Ask me if CPA is worth the extra time to blog that is taken off my sleep…I wouldn’t have an answer.
