Sprinkles cupcakes (L) and Famous Cupcakes (R)

Don’t get me wrong. I like Sprinkles. I got a Sprinkles tshirt for my birthday and I get all happy whenever I wear it. (Thanks L!)

But I would have more sympathy if Famous Cupcakes specifically copied the “modern dot” which to me is Sprinkles’ signature. Rather Famous Cupcakes uses different shapes for different occasions. Are you telling me that Sprinkles has copyrights on any small fondant decor centered in the middle of a cupcake? What happened to friendly competition? Coke and Pepsi have practically the same soda formula (Pepsi has citric acid) but they coexist. (I prefer Coke but I have no idea why?)

I think someone is a little sue happy, no?

What flavor should NOT be in a cupcake?

If you would have asked me before today I would have said bacon or some other fat dripping food product but I may have to change my mind after seeing fellow Daring Baker, Leah’s blog and her Dorie Greenspan adapted perfect party “bacon” cake. Until I have time to test out her bacon-makes-everything-better theory maybe I’ll go with… fish?

What’s more important in cupcake, form or function (ie looks or taste)?

I think there’s a balance with form and function for me. You “eat” with your eyes first so it has to be appealing enough to take a bite but if its so elaborate you can’t eat or don’t want to eat it, whats the point IMO? Even though I can appreciate how elaborate and creative ppl are with their cupcake decorations, bottom line for me is the “eat-ability”.  It makes me kinda sad if ppl don’t eat my cupcakes…

Filling or no filling?

I tend to like filling but it kinda depends on what the filling is. I don’t usually like jam or jelly fillings though.  More creamy…think along the lines of twinkie or ding dong fillings. (Get your mind out of the gutter, NB!!)

Would you rather bake or eat a cupcake?

I am sure to be in the minority on this question. I would much rather bake than eat. Actually I should rephrase… I would much rather decorate the cupcake than eat the cupcake. I could do without the actual baking part per se though. LOL. I may get bitchslapped for saying this but I am not adverse to resorting to the boxed cupcake mix just to fulfill my decorating itch.

Hands down… CHEESECAKE! I love any cheesecake but my favorite is the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake from T.G.I.Fridays. OMG. its heavenly…  ::droooling::

What do you wash your cupcake down with?

I think most ppl (if you are like my husband) would say milk but I don’t like milk. I am not lactose intolerant or anything I just don’t like drinking milk.  I think it tastes weird.  I usually have water (if I have any drink at all) with my cupcake b/c I don’t want any drink flavor taking away from the flavor of the cupcake.
