Baeutifu Ice Hotel, the hotel made of ice, which this year broke his own record. 2011-2012, became the 22nd season of its existence in a small village in Sweden Jukkasjrvi. It all started innocently enough with a small building of 60 square meters, but this year it amounted to 5.500 square meters

Artist Trading Cards is a whole new world for your imagination. They have been around for centuries and have become more popular in the last few years. You make them up, then trade with other artists. No passing of money is involved, although I see lots of them for sale on Ebay, by more well know ATC artists. They have to be 2.5 by 3.5 inches and each should be an original. I am not sure what I think of the notion at this point in time.

Artist Hong Yi a.k.a. Red Hong really took therm culinary arts seriously. She created some masterful pieces using ingredients most of us wouldn’t find in the deepest corners of the fridge or cabinet. Hit the link for more.

Simply buy a pair of pants that are way too big for you, and then pose with them in a picture looking either satisfied or shocked. Not only will you look skinnier, people also assume you worked really hard.

Bienvenido,

I haven’t posted much material recently. This is due in part because I had been rather busy with other affairs. However, I came across an old poem I wrote a couple of years ago. It is a rather lengthy poem, inspired by the works of Gothic poets, such as Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, Lord Tennyson, and Oscar Wilde. I hope my viewership enjoys this poem. It will be my 60th post.

Poetic Love

Once was a beauty whom I adored.

She was sweet and kind, making my feelings soar.

Her hair was the color of coffee,

And her skin had a hazed complexion.

None of other girls compared to her,

For what they lacked in character,

She made up in looks.

Never had I come across a more ideal maid,

Nor do I believe I ever shall.

I spent my youth in her obsession.

Hoping that I would some day end up with her.

In peace and tranquility.

Oh! What a life that would have been to be enjoined by such an angel.

Such is life,

By such is life.

By such, it never means to give you what you hope for.

Instead, you reap what you sow.

But God also decides the outcome.

I spent many a days dreaming of that wondrous beauty.

Now, she belongs to another.

All the years of fantasy -

All the nights of prayer and hope have led me to this.

One may pray and ask,

But one most surely will not end up with that in which he had asked.

Why?

God’s plans are greater than we could fathom.

It is only He knows what is best for the world

And what will become of us.

Nevertheless, the fragility of man corrupts the understanding of faith.

Since we aren’t capable of seeing the future

We will never comprehend why things are as such.

Thought I, that the girl would end up in my arms;

So I did, but to no avail.

Now I lay here disappointed and displeased.

When I should’ve trusted in God and his plans.

Such is the state of man.

Man is weak and forgetful.

He thinks he knows a thing or two about life, but he knows nothing.

As I observe my dismay I realize how foolish I truly am.

My feeble mind imprisons my heart.

I never truly loved that girl,

Nor ha I been a victim of lust.

It was false hope.

False hope is when one believes he can attain which is unattainable.

It is if that of a sinner who rejects God yet aspires for paradise.

Hopeless.

One must never remain hopeless.

I find it more wise to complement hope with prudence.

Prudence is the father of success;

Success is the mother of love.

How does once reach wisdom?

Had I known I wouldn’t be composing these verses,

I would be long gone from these pages

And closer to love.

Life is but a journey.

A journey never has smooth paths; though sometimes,

It is full of bumps and holes.

The best journeyman is the one who learns its flaws

And masters it to the point that he becomes in control of the road.

Such is the purpose of life,

To overcome the hardships with patience.

The American experience was Warhol’s product category. Artists, classically, represent a point and a place – in time and geographically, respectively. Warhol’s time and place was the late-20th century United States. His art depicted everything from the benign to the profound. Whatever it was, however, spoke of a time and place. The psychedelia, the symbolism, the cast of characters and images, and even Warhol himself in his appearance and attitude evoke a free spirited America.

Are we not told constantly that our work should get people talking? If it does not at least do that, then what’s the point? Warhol had everyone talking, and still does. He made a statement about a time and a place that resounded the world over. He changed painting and printing forever. And made images so simple that they stuck in the mind’s eye nearly permanently. Even now, can you not see his Campbell’s Soup, or his portrait of Michael Jackson, or Marilyn Monroe? One quote summarizes his philosophy and what made his art so evocative of a certain experience, “What’s great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca Cola, and just think, you can drink Coca Cola, too. A coke is a coke and no amount of money can get you a better coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the cokes are the same and all the cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.” Anybody could appreciate his art, the prince and the pauper. And it would have the same meaning, regardless of who you were.

‘ “SCENE” From a Bench Series’ -’Tuscan Ruin’

In this Oil Pastel drawing I wanted the viewer to be aware there was a backdrop to the picture but for the main focus to be within the ruin and of how the light entered it and cast shadows, light and shade. The image should project, hopefully, a sense of a hot summer’s day, even becoming hotter into the middle distance until a haze is cast over the far flung mountains. Pure imagination!

This series of pictures have all been done using Oil Pastels and in each one I have placed a Bench. Always the same bench but sometimes I’ve flipped it around to suit the angle of the scene. All the pictures in this series are from my imagination and are drawn to give maximum illusion to the perspective of the landscape around and create as much depth as possible in the small images. Hence the series title, ‘ “SCENE” From A Bench’ ! 

“On a Ledge Series” – ‘Sleepy Monkey and Wooden Ducks’

Here we are again at that tidy window ledge, with more still life exhibits! The two ducks I pinched (Borrowed) out of my Daughter’s bedroom where their normal duty is to act as bookends and the monkey was from my Son’s room.  He had a jungle theme many years ago.  This particular still life was done in oil paint, though in the future I will post another of Sleepy Monkey and Wooden Duck (Only one duck next time!) painted in watercolour.

Looking again at this picture, I love how tidy my kitchen worktop is!! Maybe I should do more in this series!!! Below is an explanation of how this set of paintings was born for anyone who hasn’t seen others in the series.

Bored and uninspired one day, I stood in my kitchen wondering what I could draw? Whilst wondering I absent mindedly started tidying and rearranging things on the ledge. I’m not one for nice pot ornaments, rather have slightly wacky or weird decorative things around! So, as I now had a disarrayed pile of things I had moved and a clean window ledge – The idea struck me. I could use it as a little staging area for a series of still life pictures!!!
