(ChattahBox)—The wacky right-wing lawmaker Michele Bachmann, is scheduled to give a speech at the first National Tea Party Convention, which will take place in Nashville, TN in February. Bachmann is a hero to teapartiers, after she recently staged an anti-health care reform Capitol tea party rally she called, “The Superbowl of Freedom.”

Bachmann will be one of the breakfast speakers at the event, which will feature such discussion panels, as “How to Defeat Liberalism.”

Bachmann’s anti-Obama and anti-health care reform rally on the steps of the Capitol was marked with offensive, racist and anti-Semitic signs.

Bachmann’s rally may have broken House ethics rules. The watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) are calling for an investigation into Bachmann’s possible violation of House rules, by using her taxpayer-funded website to organize a contentious grassroots rally against fellow lawmakers.

Jake, Reid: you’re absolutely right

That was a really hurtful and completely unfair thing for me to say on that earlier post (“people everywhere”) and I want to make a public apology. Sometimes the tendency for myself is to pick up more acutely on negative energy instead of positive and whether or not I am getting that from the crew or outside of it, that’s still not a fair thing to say and it’s not fair of me to continue channeling bad vibes. The passion this crew has for this film is a rarity in the history of this class (at least, that’s what Lisa tells me and she’s been doing it for… ever practically) but so many thing tear at my attention that I feel I lose sight of it.

So “Still” crew, I really, sincerely apologize and I hope you realize that just like anybody else in this class, the work can occasionally get me down, resulting in me being mentally reckless. I do promise from now on to keep check on my attitude. You all hand picked me and the script and I am honored and it is rude of me to take that for granted. I do recognize your passion, but obviously, I need reminders.

Thank you for everything thus far. We’re not out of the woods yet, probably not even half way in!–but I have a good feeling about this set. Come Jan, we’re going to see some intense magic. I do feel good about this crew–don’t ever doubt that. I said it in my pitch and I’ll say it again, this is probably one of the most talented crops of people to take this class (another notion Lisa seconds)

This past weekend I’m sure everyone enjoyed themselves. My weekends have become somewhat of a shit storm of activities. I’m usually super busy yet I let the weekend decide what I’ll partake in. Thanksgiving with my family was grand but it was equally grand with friends… Also it was my best friend Ryan’s birthday, so pictures will describe the festivities! (check out my flickr)

The yacht of Paul and Rachel Chandler, currently being held hostage by Somali pirates, the Lynn Rival has been returned to the UK. The 38ft boat has been brought back onboard the Royal Navy vessel that witnessed the Chandlers ordeal. The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Wave Night said they did not act, as they did not want to endanger them. First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope said that criticism that the sailors onboard did not do enough to rescue the couple did a “disservice” to the crew. However in a report published in the Mail on Sunday it was reported that a source onboard said there were actually 20 Royal Marines who were equipped and ready to go. Though the marines mobilised twice on the deck of the ship, they were given the order to stand down. The pirates holding Mr and Mrs Chandler are demanding £4 million ($7 million) in ransom. Last week the couple were seen on film asking for help and saying they could be killed within a week if the ransom is not paid. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have repeated, “It does not make substantive concessions to hostage takers, including ransoms.” I continue to hope that the Chandlers ordeal ends soon and they are reunited with their families. Just like to share to you guys one favorite performance of one of my favorite dance crews, the Poreotics. To those of you who doesn’t know them, feel free to search the web more specifically youtube to know more. They are not an abdc crew (yet), but i’m really hoping to see them on abdc season 5. I totally predict they can win it all, that is if the show doesn’t decide to give them a very crazy challenge. You guys have to admit that some of the challenges are just whacked. I believe they were suppose to be in season 4 but people say they decided to join World Hiphop Internationals instead. You really can’t blame them on that. WHHI is bigger compared to abdc.

Steaming South.

Its about 1,300 mile from Timaru to the Northern Ross Sea ice edge, it’ll take us around 6 days to get there if the weather is reasonable. (Unreasonable weather is more than likely).

Information we have indicates the ice is thawing faster this season than it did in 2008 and 2007, however, our records show much less sea ice during 2000 to 2005 than we’ve seen for the last 4 seasons. With global warming the hot topic of the day, we do not see it happening in the Ross Sea in recent years. 

The first job we must do before exiting NZ waters is check the sink rate of our lines to be sure they comply with guidelines set by CCAMLR. These guidelines have proven to be effective in the Ross Sea resulting in a zero seabird by-catch for all vessels involved in the fishery since it began 11 years ago. (Every vessel has at least one international observer aboard, the four NZ vessels carry two observers each, this is to help with the additional research we undertake). The line sink test is carefully monitored by both observers with the results sent to the Ministry of Fisheries (our lines must sink at no less than 0.3m per second) after that we receive a “warrant of fitness” allowing us to proceed to the fishing grounds.

If you’re over 21, you can now play slot machines based on two of your favorite shows, “American Idol” and “Sex and the City.”

Both slots were new releases at the 2009 Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. In “American Idol,” slot players can trigger a bonus round that lets them become one of three judges — Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi or Randy Jackson — and then plays video clips of past contestants, good AND bad.

According to Sphere.com, Paula Abdul was the lone holdout participant even BEFORE she announced she was leaving the show. Innnteresting.

Meanwhile, the “Sex and the City” slot machines are subtitled “Change of a Dress.” Clever, no? They feature bonus rounds that include video clips of all four women plus Mr. Big.

It is noon when Christine Hakim makes an entrance on the staircase of a hotel on Bali Island. The weather is balmy and the air has a faint smell of salt. Hakim wears a batik shirt with a cloud pattern and a jade-green lizard-skin tote bag slung over her shoulder. Her signature streak of green hair is barely noticeable when pulled tightly back.
Hakim runs into Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, who has just addressed a conference, at the reception desk.
The press immediately swarm around them. “Mbak Christine!” the photographers and journalists call out.
Hakim answers questions with good humor and the poise that comes from being in the public eye for more than three decades.
“There is still no one in the film industry who can rival her,” whispers a journalist.

Since Hakim launched her acting career in Teguh Karya’s “Cinta Pertama” (First Love) in 1973, barely an unkind word has been written about her in the media.
It is not hard to see why. “As I age, my maternal side develops. I treat them like they are my children, even the older journalists,” Hakim says. “I jest with them, pretending to be difficult. They in turn try to coax me, as a child would coax their mother for a treat, to give them an interview,” she adds with a wink.
After the press conference, Hakim heads for the airport. The appearance of her very famous face — the vermilion lips, the warm eyes under darkened lashes, the beauty spot — causes many people to do a double take.
Besides being a screen icon, Hakim was the first Indonesian to be invited to sit on the jury of the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival and she also graced the cover of TIME magazine as one of their Asian heroes of 2004 for her contributions to film and society. Yet it is with a deep sigh that she sums up her life in the limelight in one word: “heavy.”
“It was my never my intention to end up this way. I just wanted to be a good person,” she says, referring to her humanitarian work.
“These are the consequences of the decisions I have made throughout my life. So I have to be consistent with my choices,” Hakim says. “In a way it is a moral burden — if I choose to let go of my commitments — because at times they involve the livelihoods of others.”
Hakim’s compassion for others and her nationalism are evident in the roles she has chosen to play in films such as “Daun Di Atas Bantal” (Leaf on a Pillow), about the lives of street children; “Serambi” (Verandah), about the aftermath of the tsunami in Aceh; and “Cut Nyak Dhien,” about an Acehnese freedom fighter.
Hakim is also an advocate for public education and children’s welfare. “If I can help someone who is in need — and release them from their troubles — that is what makes me smile,” she says. “When I am in trouble and help comes my way, it is an incredible feeling. Because I have felt that, I want others to feel the same.”
In 2008, Hakim was appointed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or Unesco, to be a Goodwill Ambassador for Teacher Education in Southeast Asia.
Her own foundation, The Christine Hakim Foundation, provides nutrition for malnourished children in West Java Province. “We [as public figures] do not always have to contribute to the community, but perhaps I want to give meaning to my own life. I feel if I do things only for myself then my life is less meaningful. But if my life can give meaning to others, then it has more purpose.”
A friend decides to fly back to Jakarta with Hakim and takes the last available seat — in economy. Without a second thought, Hakim gives up her business-class seat to her friend.
“I much prefer sitting in the back of the plane,” she says, waiting patiently for the crowded line to move forward. “Besides, it is the safest place in case of a crash.”
At lunchtime, Hakim takes out a brown paper package of rice from her favorite street stall in Bali. She politely refuses a stewardess’s offer of utensils.
Her down-to-earth attitude — sitting in economy, eating rice with her hands — appears to puzzle the other passengers, who watch her constantly. “Acting is a profession, just like any other. Life does not only encompass acting,” Hakim says. “The gist of life is not there [in film] but comes back to my existence as a human being. There is no difference between one person and another. We all have pluses and minuses. I do not feel I am better than anyone else.”
Arriving at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta airport, Hakim sails through immigration, past a sea of officials’ smiles. “The kindness of others makes my life easier, but it has also become a burden for me. People are nice to me because they appreciate, respect and believe in me. In that sense, I have to tread carefully so as to not disappoint anyone.”
The arrival hall is almost empty — aside from a film crew on break. Their camera and sound rigs are strewn around the area. Hakim recognizes a few of the crew members and stops to chat. They discuss a movie that is currently in production in Jakarta. The verdict is not good. Hakim shakes her head sadly.
“That film has been rife with problems from the start,” she says.
Once in her car, Hakim sinks back into her seat, clearly travel-weary. “On three occasions I wanted to stop making films” she discloses, pausing for thought. “But my soul is in film. As humans, we all have a calling. We all have our own duties to fulfill — of that I am convinced. Whenever I face a major predicament, in other aspects of my life positive things, such as recognition for my work, appear. So how can I stop?”
These awards symbolize people’s hopes and appreciation — their support. And so I continue,” Hakim says.
Back at her office in South Jakarta, Hakim rolls out a mat and begins to pray. The soft recitation of bismillah — in the name of Allah — resonates throughout the room. After praying , she changes into a boldly patterned top and a ruby-red Spanish-style tiered skirt.
Hakim says she does not find it hard to be a woman working in a patriarchal culture.
“I do not want to be a man. My femininity has become my strength. It sets me apart from men. It is an asset,” she says.
“In life, you have to be able to be tender and hard. I can be hard, believe it or not,” she says.
Darkness hangs over the capital as Hakim makes her way to a gallery opening, where she is guest of honor.
“In the end, it is my life,” she says. “But when people already respect and believe in me, they only want to see me as that person [they see onscreen]. They need to understand that I am also human and can also make mistakes. “
She reaches her destination and glides out of the car with a grand smile for the wall of photographers who greet her. Then Christine Hakim disappears into the throng.

The Gem Elevator adds up all the gems that you and your crew gets each month and if you get enough then you get those prizes at the end of the month, so your tourist members, you might want to keep up-to-date with the gem codes that you get weekly, so that your crew will get higher rewards. ADVICE FOR JUNIOR ROWERS:
HOW TO MOVE UP INTO THE “A” BOAT

My daughter was frustrated. Her second year in rowing, and she was stuck in the third boat. She realized that in rowing she had “found her sport”, but how could she progress? It wasn’t any fun never winning the big races.

I had never rowed. My high school sports were swimming and football. So I couldn’t offer any advice regarding technique, or training routines specific to rowing. I had, however, learned a bit about endurance training in general. So I took what little I knew, and we worked out a program. The result was two great years of rowing in a junior program, topped by the award of a rowing scholarship at an NCAA division I university.

Here is what we did:

1. Year-Round Rowing – Most junior rowers row only in the springtime. That is understandable, given the competition of other sports or activities in the fall (cross-country, football, band etc.), or summer jobs and vacations. However, if you are serious about rowing, you need to row more than four months a year. My daughter started rowing in the fall and summer, and the results were noticeable. She also became involved in the winter training program offered by the club.

2. Weight – My daughter will admit that she was overweight when she started rowing, and although she wasn’t gaining any more weight in her first two years of rowing, she wasn’t losing any, either. She got serious about trying to lose weight. Too serious, in my opinion – she was practically on a diet of salads, rice cakes, and yogurt. After a few arguments and some adjustments, she got to a better balance. Her decreased weight made a lot of difference in both her endurance and her weight-adjusted erg scores.

3. Purchase an Erg – During the off-season, my daughter borrowed the use of an erg at a neighbor’s house (their daughter was already in college), and she also used the ergs at the club boathouse when that was not available. By her senior year we eventually invested in a Concept 2 Erg machine for both of our kid’s use during the off-season.

4. Do More than the Others – I pointed out to my daughter that as long as she was limiting her training only with her team, she wouldn’t get much stronger than any of them, as they would all be progressing at the same pace. If she wanted to move up into the varsity boats, she would have to do more than her current boatmates did. So during the crew season, she added a morning run to her exercise program (her crew team practiced in the afternoons). During the off-season, she continued with her morning runs, and included erg sessions and other exercises (see cross-training, below).

5. Cross-Training – Especially with young athletes, it is easy to do too much. Injuries to the back, knees, and arm ligaments can result from repeating the same motions too much, too often. That is where cross-training helps – doing other exercises which help increase endurance and strength, without stressing those parts of the body which are already under stress. Good cross-training exercises are running, swimming, bicycling. Even these exercises need some variation – split up the running program into some cross-country, some wind-sprints, some stadium-step running, for example.

6. Get Expert Advice – Early on we ran into a problem with a couple of junior coaches who wanted to concentrate on the “Varsity A” boats (in order to send them to Nationals), and a comparative apathy toward the rowers in the other boats. This meant the rowers in the “B” and “C” boats weren’t getting the instruction they needed. We worked to correct that problem within the club (which was resolved by the end of that year), but in the meantime we found that the club’s masters rowers (rowers age 25+) were the source of considerable assistance. All we had to do was ask, and they were more than happy (ecstatic, really) to offer technical advice and assistance. After the junior team ended its practice on Saturday mornings, our daughter would stick around for another couple of hours to receive help from her new “mentors”, the masters rowers. Often they were very happy to have an additional rower fill out a four or an eight, and they provided valuable sculling instruction (which was a weak point at our club at that time).

The result? By the start of her junior year in rowing, she was in the Varsity “B” boat, both 8+ and 4+. But that year the “B” boats were beating the “A” boats as often as not, and they walked away from Brentwood with a gold medal for the 4+. That senior year she was recruited by several colleges, and in her senior year she rowed in the Varsity “A” boats, and ended her senior year with two offers of rowing scholarships.

Just before we left the wharf, Greg (Sanfords deep water fleet manager), came aboard and wished us well for the coming season and a reminder about safety on board in Antarctic conditions. He also explained the conditions and changes to our permit from last season and emphasized the importance of compliance in an internationally managed fishery.

The weather forecast looks reasonable and I expect we will enter CCAMLR waters on about the 26th. However, I don’t think we have to travel too far south to find our 1st ice berg, by all accounts they are drifting north to meet us this year.
