If you are looking for a good work of satire, I readily advise you to give Huxley a chance. His earlier novels-of-ideas commonly referred to as the “House-Party” satires are all fine works; Huxley strips a self-appointed cultural elite of their pretensions and satirises egoists (sparing no egotists, either) and escapists in luscious ways. For instance, one cannot help but love Casimir Lypiatt of Antic Hay, a hopelessly self-deluded artist who, when someone is knocking on his door, counts the seconds before opening the door so as to give others the impression that he is fully absorbed in his work.

Hence, if you find yourself having some time to devote yourself to some reading this summer, Crome Yellow (1921), Antic Hay (1923), and Those Barren Leaves (1925) ought to be good investments.
