MANTAP !!!
(seperti ditulis di mailing list cikarangmtb@yahoogroups.com)

University of Illinois standout Angela Bizzarri won the NCAA women’s race in 19:46.8 on Monday

University of Illinois standout Angela Bizzarri won the NCAA women’s race in 19:46.8 on Monday in Terre Haute, Indiana. Bizzarri ran an incredibly smart race, keeping the leaders in sight the entire time, then rolling them up over the final 2k to take home her second NCAA title and first cross country national title. Bizzarri beat runner-up Kendra Schaff by 4.8 seconds, crossing the finish line with her arms raised and a big smile across her face.

Meanwhile, in the men’s race, Stanford’s Chris Derrick (Neuqua Valley) ran to a third place finish, pushing the chase pack behind eventual winner Sam Chelanga the entire 10k race. Derrick was outkicked by Northern Arizona’s David McNeill over the final 600 meters, but Derrick’s third place performance of 29:14.8 clearly established him as the top American in the field.

The second American in the field was another Illinois standout. Arkansas’ Dorian Ulrey (Riverdale) finished sixth overall in 29:37.9. Ulrey ran a smart race, sitting in the second chase pack, then simply outkicking the competition in the final stretch. Ulrey’s performance shows that he may be the most versatile runner at the NCAA level, as he qualified for the U.S. squad this past summer at 1,500m, and is now the sixth best runner over 10,000m in cross country. What range!

The other Illinois runner earning all-American status is Jeff Schirmer (Triad). The Southern Illinois University runner finished 19th overall, putting himself in the second chase pack for the entire race, then holding on over the final 1,000m for a top twenty finish. Schirmer finished as the tenth American in the field, beating runners that were dramatically better than him in high school. If any current high school athletes want a role model for taking their running to another level at the collegiate level, Schirmer is the best example in the country.

In the team competition, the University of Illinois placed 12th overall with 365 points. Led by Bizzarri, along with Kristin Sutherland (Sandburg) in 41st and Elizabeth Boyle (Fenwick) in 72nd, the Illini showed why they are considered once of the best distance programs in the country. Bizzarri’s win is the best performance in Illinois’ cross country history, while Sutherland should eye an all-American finish next fall.

“All three teams were determined to win,” said JSerra principal Tom Waszak. “They may not have not reached their ultimate goal but all three teams gave a 100 percent effort. They should be proud of what they achieved. It was not long ago that our ability to compete in the league was questioned. On Saturday, I saw student athletes and coaches who were distraught about finishing second in the CIF championships. We’ve come a long way In a short time!”

The cross country team finished three points behind champion Harvard of Westlake at the CIF meet, which was held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

“They ran their hearts out,” Waszak said. “They are determined to win at the state meet.”

The girls compete in Clovis this weekend for the state title.

The boys’ water polo team also finished an outstanding season Saturday, coming up just short against Trinity League rival Mater Dei. They fell 12-8 at William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine.

‘Cross Country’…clever title. Patterson’s beloved hero, Alex Cross, is off

‘Cross Country’…clever title.

Patterson’s beloved hero, Alex Cross, is off to solve a murder again.

Wait, let me start again…

I love James Patterson. I can’t get enough of his books. After spending 4 years at University reading (or should I say, ‘fighting with’) all genres of difficult, I really looked forward to settling down with something cozy and comfortable.

I am a little ashamed to admit that I had forgotten about James Patterson. Reading wasn’t on my ‘fun’ list anymore; but when I was in the airport waiting for a plane to take me on my honeymoon, I saw ‘Cross Country’ and thought, ‘Oh yes, that’s exactly what I need.’

Alex Cross is off to solve another murder. After retiring a few times and being dragged back in; he’s back, attempting to solve the most grisly murders of his career.

Cross suspects a group of Africans from Nigeria of the murders of entire families in the DC area. Dismemberments, torture, and blood everywhere. But the thing that makes the murders even more gruesome is that the suspects are young boys.

Cross locks horns with the FBI, and then the CIA. Finally, he decides to fly to Nigeria himself to find the elusive gang leader called Tiger.

Ok, this is where Patterson lost me. Why in the world would Cross go to Africa? And what exactly did he expect to do accomplish there? Was he honestly going to slap some cuffs on the guy in the middle of his home country, read him Miranda and perhaps add on a little, ‘by the power vested in me by the District of Columbia…’?

That sort of investigation, I found, was unrealistic. No government would allow someone to just jump their border, arrest someone for a crime committed in another country without going through the proper diplimatic channels of extradition.

What’s amusing at this point in the book, is that I, the reader, am not the only one telling Cross to get back to the States where he belongs. Every single character he knows or comes in contact with tells him to go home. Nobody, (and after a quick thumb through again to make sure I’m right), I can’t find a single character who agrees that Cross should be in Nigeria.

Well, he nearly gets killed. Then, nearly gets killed again. Then he gets arrested. Then the woman who is helping him (and do I sense a little bit of naughty lust here?) finds her own family maimed and murdered.

I’ll stop here because I don’t want to ruin any more of the book if you decide to read this. But I have to say…very disappointed. What happened to one of my favourite sleuths of all time? What have you done to him, Mr Patterson?

My review: leave it be. Let your memory of Alex Cross be the greatness he has always been. Avoid this book.

Paced by Ryan Vail, who finished 7th individually, and Colby Lowe, 8th overall, the Cowboys beat runner-up Oregon by 16 points. The championship was the second historically for the cross country program, with the other trophy being earned way back in 1954. Other contributing team members included John Kosgei (11th), Girma Mecheso (24th), German Fernandez (77th), David Chirchir (80th), and Jonathan Stublaski (123rd).

Cross country reporter Emily Patton’s point of view on Tuesday’s sports front story abou

Cross country reporter Emily Patton’s point of view on Tuesday’s sports front story about freshman runner Lucas Somers:

I was just like everyone else who noticed their shaved heads. I wanted to know why.

After talking with some of the men’s cross country team, I learned that a freshman, 18 year-old Lucas Somers, had been diagnosed with stage three testicular cancer a few weeks ago.

On one of the guys’ daily trips to the hospital to see Lucas, I tagged along. 10 members of the team piled into his small hospital room. Eight of them were newly bald.

The guys had Lucas laughing and joking as they rubbed each other’s heads while watching The Office. Even when a nurse came in to check his vitals and the reminder of his condition resurfaced, the team immediately came to the conclusion the nurses all had a crush on him.

The idea is to take his mind off of things and get him smiling and laughing again, said freshman Landon Taylor.

After an hour of socializing, senior Patrick Jenkins quieted the team and began to lead a Bible study. The team discussed their faith and what pride means to them, then prayed for Lucas.

Lucas said the team’s shaved heads let him know he won’t be going through this alone.

“You grow to love your teammates like family and would do anything for them,” Jenkins said.

Starting last Saturday, Lucas will have 16 days out of the hospital before he goes back for another round of chemotherapy. He said the chemo treatment takes so much out of him. Each day he is exhausted, but then can only sleep a few hours a night.

He said the doctors have told him to eat six times a day. Though he would eat about nine times a day when he was healthy, he said eating even three times a day is difficult for him now. But if he does not eat, he just gets sick.

“I just have to stay positive, because I know as soon as I get out of here I can start running again,” Lucas said, “I can’t spend my time being scared. I know I’m going to make it through this.”

When I visited Lucas the next day to sit and talk one-on-one, he was still smiling over the team’s visit. He said he was shocked that they would be so supportive through this situation.

“I have known the guys for two months,” Lucas said, “It was like no questions asked. They have been here every day since I have been here.”

The University of Minnesota women’s cross country team continued their streak of Top 12 NCAA finishes. The Gopher women placed 10th in the Division I Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, IN today. This marks the 5th year in a row the Gophers have placed in the top 12 at the national meet. Illinois holds onto their 5 year streak as well, finishing in 12th. Minnesota and Illinois are now the only 2 teams in the NCAA with 5 year streaks of top 12 finishes. Stanford’s streak ended today as they finished 16th as a team.

The Gophers were led by senior Megan Duwell, who finished 7th overall in a time of 20:06.9. Duwell ran the fastest time and had the highest NCAA individual finish in Gopher cross country history. Duwell went out in a large pack through 3k in 6:25, sitting around 15th place overall. She continued moving up as the race progressed, making her way into 9th place by the 4k mark, and passing 2 runners over the final 2 kilometers. Duwell’s finish earned her the second All-America honor in her career. Heather Dorniden was 2nd for the Gophers in 84th place with a time of 21:11. Dorniden is now the only Golden Gopher to have run in every NCAA Championship of her career in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. Dorniden was followed by Amy Laskowke in 88th (21:12), Kayla Wagner in 91st (21:15), Stephanie Price in 112th (21:23), Elizabeth Yetzer in 121st (21:26), and Nikki Swenson in 216th (22:18).

Minnesota finished with a score of 310 and was the top Big Ten team out of a record seven Big Teams in the race. The Gophers’ 10th place finish ties the 2nd highest finish in school history. Villanova won the team race with a score of 86, Florida State came in 2nd with 133, and #1 ranked Washington finished in 3rd with 188.

Senior Angela Bizzarri of Illinois won the individual title with a time of 19:46. Kendra Schaaf of Washington finished 2nd in 19:51, and Susan Kuijken of Florida State placed 3rd in 19:57. Pre-meet favorite and Olympian Jenny Barringer led the first half of the race, but then started stumbling and slowing down. At one point in the race, she stopped and fell to the ground. She got up shortly after and finished the race, passing several runners in the final 100 meters, finishing in 163rd place.

The Gopher men finished in 24th place as a team, scoring 493 points. Junior Hassan Mead led the team with his 16th place finish overall and becomes only the 2nd 3-time All American in Golden Gopher history. Mead sat in about 6th place as he went through 3k with a large pack at 8:40. Mead held his 6th place position through 5k in 14:44 and passed the 8k mark at 23:45 in 7th place. Mead crossed the line in 16th with a time of 29:50. Ben Blankenship was 2nd for the Gophers in 116th place, running 31:05. Blankenship was followed by teammates Matt Barrett in 120th (31:06), Pieter Gagnon in 135th (31:15), Mike McFarland in 221st (32:32), Derek Storkel in 228th (32:57), and Sean Olson in 229th (32:59).

Samuel Chelanga won the men’s race, while smashing Galen Rupp’s course record by 22 seconds. Chelanga went through the 5k in 14:09 and finished in 28:41. David McNeill of Northern Arizona finished 2nd in 29:06, and pre-meet favorite Chris Derrick of Stanford finished 3rd in 29:14.

Oklahoma State won the team title for the first time since 1954, scoring 127 points. Oregon finished 2nd with 143, and Alabama placed 3rd with 173 points. #1 ranked Stanford finished 10th overall.

tampak pemandangan kebawah dari titik saya berhenti ngosh-ngosh-an menyelesaikan soal#3

dan inilah bagian terakhir soal#3, bagian paling indah…

Soal#3 dilihat dari atas

Soal #4

All season long NCC has been ranked US#1, and the squad showed why that was the case, beating runner-up Williams by 131 points. Junior Mike Spain (Schaumburg) placed second overall in 25:32, while senior Ryan Carrigan (Chatham-Glenwood) placed sixth overall in 25:37.

Behind Spain and Carrigan, senior Nathaniel Hird (Rock Island Alleman) placed 13th overall in 25:46, sophomore Neil Klein (Streamwood) placed 19th overall in 25:54, senior Kyle Brady (Wheaton Warrenville South) placed 21st in 25:58, sophomore Nathan Rutz (Schaumburg) placed 25th in 25:59 and senior Sean Carlson (Buffalo Grove) rounded out their top seven in 32nd place overall in 26:06.

Congratulations to North Central College!
