Plagiarized from Clement Clarke Moore (Twas the Night Before Christmas)

Twas the night before New Years and in the garage,

The V-Rod was stirring, parked next to the Dodge.

Its keys were hung neatly arranged on the rack,

I’d slip in a short ride – while they nibbled on snacks.

——

This cold night for sure – it demanded full dress,

A helmet and gloves, several layers no less.

I quietly rustled around for my boots,

Slipped on my chaps, my best friend in cahoots.

—–

The door closed discretely as a TCLOCS was done,

All systems were readied it was time for some fun!

The engine turned over quite smoothly and quick,

I was off down the road with a thumbs up from Nick.

—–

Just a mile or two – was all the time that I had,

I’d look at some angels, go back home – be a gad.

But what to my wondering eyes did appear-

Lights flashing behind me, some yelling – oh, Dear!

—–

She opened the car door, and made such a clatter,

I shut down my hot V-Rod, to see what was the matter.

“You’ve ruined my party”, – all the neighbors could hear;

My arms fell around her, in regret – drew her near.

—–

“It’s the V-Rod”, I whimpered; just a little white lie,

“It makes you jump on it – and ride?”; her reply.

Overhead there was rumbling, we looked up in full fear,

Air Force One flying over, flaps halfway and with gear!

—–

Obama was waving and throwing out gifts,

“All America loves me, and my emotional lifts!”

He needed some prompting, seemed in love with himself,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!

—–

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know that our future was dread.

We stood there in wonder as he shouted to us-

“New health care taxation, no more cars – ride the bus!

—–

My V-Rod rode angry as I made my way home,

The wife was a steamin’, when I got to the phone.

Our congressman listed intently at first-

But hinted there might be more news, yet the worst!

—–

“You see, new environment laws will demand,

all gas burning engines may be banned in our land.”

This news was disturbing but taken in stride-

Happy New Year to all – forget Barry – Let’s Ride!

When I first started Eve, after struggling through the tutorial, giving up halfway through, getting

When I first started Eve, after struggling through the tutorial, giving up halfway through, getting lost twice, losing a cruiser in nullsec, lowsec and to some very prepared rats with a warp scrambler(Still have no idea how that happened), I started mining in, in order, rookie ship, navitas, two navitas’, an exequror, a brutix, a retriever, a covetor, a borrowed mawkinaw and my first hulk, followed soon after by my second, third, fourth and fifth hulk.

With highsec mining, you can practically fall asleep at the laser with no problems (Only practically, lost hulk #3 that way), and with WH mining you need to constantly be aware, but with good returns promised. Grinding level one missions, however, is the most annoying thing I’ve done in Eve since I got into an argument with some Dead Terrorist gate campers on whether or not they were simply stargazing. After they blew up my industrial

“We thought it was a comet about to hit us and took preemptive measures”

With what I would laughably call my combat alt, a month old character able to fly up to Caldari BS and baseline missile skills, L1 missions have that special combination of arduousness and simplicity that leaves me irritated out of my mind. This ironically coming from the person who mines for five hours straight often and doesn’t complain about the monotony.

Even with my inhuman tolerance for boredom, these things are irritating. My alt is compitent enough that her caracal eliminates frigate threats before they even know they’re threats, which was fun for the first ten-odd missions, but every other mission, the frigates take three to four missiles before they’re blown ta smithereens, and when you can’t tell which kind of frigate is going to take three missiles, I usually assign two assault launchers to my first two targets and a heavy missile launcher n target painter to the third and hope my missile find some sort of exhaust port.

And, even with the mission type I’m running (Internal security), I’ll eventually get chain missions with courier requirements, which are similarly samey while different enough it takes conscious thought to work out where to go.

Here’s my problem: with mining, you can unfocus your brain to the point that every three minutes, you drag the ore to the can then unfocus your brain again, hence the name “miningzen”. WH mining isn’t too different. You click the mouse every ten seconds, if your directional doesn’t scream at you, you get to live another ten seconds. The excitement and terror wears off about three days after your last ganking encounter and it’s back to monotonous clicking over and over.

With l1 missions, you have to click the mouse all over the place, finding where to go for the mission, who to shoot/not shoot/look at until you get a complete flashy journal, warp back, ask for a new mission. It’s so mind-numbingly boring while at the same time requiring enough thought that I can’t fall into a stupor while doing it.

While missions are the way they are, I’m afraid to ask CCP to change them or for people to rally behind me for more excitement, since if I do they’ll probably make mining more exciting in a completely horrible way, like make you keep your ship pointed at the asteroid or something silly. What I’m asking from the missioners who read this blog to laugh at miners or for something to do as their t2 fitted domi’s slice through L4 missions, is what Caldari ship n fit should I be using to make this task easier? I’m currently running w/ 4 assault launchers w/ random missiles, one heavy missile launcher, two ballistic controls, a medium shield booster, target painter and afterburner. Suggestions?

P.S. Anyone else find it silly that “prototype exploration ship”, the Zephyr, is one of the ship types acceptable for combat missions?

Fly to the warp-point and wait for your serpantis contact to show up.

An avid cruiser and writer-extraordinaire, Theresa Russell spouts her honest opinion about the cruises she’s been on in her blog, Cruise Bug Chatter.

“Here, I can add a dash of snark, mix it with a bit of tongue-in-cheek, and top it off with some hopefully useful information,” she says. Her blog is “derived from my many cruises and numerous specialization courses provided by the cruise lines.”

You can have a look at her recent posts on getting stuck in Hurricane Dean and listen to some of her podcasts that feature interviews with various cruising employees and experts.

“Most fun for me is commenting on other posts or articles relating to the cruise experience, especially those written by cruise experts who have taken only one cruise,” she continues.

“I often take an opposing point of view on such things, since I find controversy is more interesting than agreement.”

A couple of weekends ago, I decided to give my wife’s cruiser a little spin to get a taste of the beach life. Of course, with temps close to freezing, I couldn’t get the complete picture.

This was the first time that I’ve actually taken a lengthy ride on this type of bike. I’ve done the occasional test ride, but I’ve never taken one for a true spin.

It’s definitely a different experience. All of my bikes are designed to put me in a forward riding position, but the cruiser puts me upright. It was awkward at first, but I soon discovered that it was more comfortable on the neck and back. Another obvious difference is the spread of the handle bars. The cruiser’s bars are wide and angled back. Although this worked well with the upright seated position, the steering was less responsive. Since the cruiser is more for slow, casual riding, I didn’t see this as an issue – just different.

The single speed gearing seemed perfect for flat, smooth terrain, but required a bit of work to haul it up hill. Granted, the seat position was lower for my wife, so I couldn’t get a nice leg extension without standing. I’m thinking that with the right seat height, inclines would be more manageable.

The overall ride was fun. There’s something about the carefree personality of a cruiser that removes any intention of getting anywhere fast. When you detach that from the ride, all you have left is a relaxed, comfortable and enjoyable spin around town. The cruiser is obviously more about personality and less about utility, which is why I have one on my bike wish list.

Before we discovered Fleetwood’s Kit Kat, I have to admit, a beach cruiser wasn’t on my radar for my personal bike line-up. But once Fleetwood got me on a test ride, I have to say, there is definitely one on my wish list.

There’s nothing that screams classic, comfort, casual, cool, hip and fun like a cruiser. There’s nothing that screams classic, comfort, casual, cool, hip, fun AND ‘that bike is so awesomely you’ more than one that is custom designed by YOU and build by the guys at Fleetwood’s Kit Kat. I can’t believe nobody’s thought about building custom styled cruisers to fit individual personalities, sooner. Pure genius if you ask me.

Unfortunately, if you don’t live in north Texas, getting one built to your specifications was a little difficult to accomplish. Good news – Fleetwood’s spreading the love to everybody who doesn’t live in the DFW Metroplex. Now, the rest of the world can enjoy the greatness of having a custom cruiser, built to their specifications and delivered right to their door. Introducing Villy Customs.

The new site enables you to custom configure the cruiser of your dreams. Everything from the frame to the tires can be tweaked to your specific taste. With thousands of combinations, it’s quite possible to build a bike that’s a one-of-a-kind, made specifically for you. These are truly affordable, functional works-of-art that every bike enthusiast should own.

Be warned. It is quite possible to spend good part of your day configuring all your possible favorite combinations.

ALSO, if you happen to double click on any of the accessories or view the gallery, you’ll be treated to the great photography of Wendy Woodruff-Wezensky.

Idle time for Fatboy proud, just past prime,

Maroon with flames on tank and tins.

Displayed on showroom floor that shines,

Twelve thousand miles as it begins.

Milwaukee gave this steed its strength,

Brains and brawn carved steel and thunder,

Is age a part of its design at length,

No, just majesty on bridge and under.

It pawed in valley deep without regard,

and cruised in power bright concrete hard.

Roaring into clash of road and weather,

it mocks at fear of night or heat,

Neither bows from distance or whatever,

On the byways what providence may greet.

It turns back not from rolling threat,

despite the rattles of journey great.

It devours distance with fiery rage,

internal pressures and the fuel gauge.

But now, it rests on sidestand left,

Awaiting sounds of the trumpet blast.

To start the battle once again with grace,

and face the road and wind and heat, at last.

Preowned!

( COPYRIGHT FREE – PLEASE CREDIT MOTORFEATURES/ALASTAIR WALKER )

The NEC motorcycle and scooter show opened last Thursday and the wraps came off the Victory CORE concept cruiser bike – the first time the CORE has been seen in the UK.

The Victory CORE concept cruiser

Victory are a relative newcomer to the cruiser bike scene, but part of Polaris Industries in the USA and have decades of experience in quads, jetskis and snowmobiles. The CORE is the brainchild of Chief Designer Michael Song and features a unique chassis, made from a minimal number of aluminium alloy sections.

The concept is simple; the chassis is reversed out, rather like a negative photo. Normally molten metal is poured into sand castings to make the key chassis sections on motorcycles, but the CORE is made exactly in the image of the sand castings themselves. So the boxy swing arm pivot holds substantial frame rails and the 1731cc V-twin motor hangs from an alloy spine which holds the fuel, airbox and the electrics inside its long teardrop shape.

Details like the African mahogany seat, the lack of mirrors, front mudguard and rigid rear end suggest this is very much a design study. The bike is stripped down, rather like the `board tracker’ customs that have been winning awards at shows over the last few years.

But lessons learned creating the big Vision touring model have been applied by Victory on the CORE concept. It has a practical appeal too, weighing in 469lbs dry, featuring belt final drive, powerful disc brakes and `X-factor’ wheels. Hope nobody’s told Simon Cowell about the wheels yet…

The CORE isn’t a beautiful, curvaceous, shiny, conventional cruiser. But models like the Hammer and the Ness Jackpot editions, show that Victory can also do bling. The CORE almost definitely points the way ahead for Victory’s next generation of performance cruisers. This is a rolling template.

Victory also unveiled two new touring models at the NEC motorcycle show, which looked rather more conventional and should prove good competition for Harley’s Ultra Glide series models.

My Lovely Cruiser

Well I write a blog over at blogger but I decided to try this one for a change. My blog is basically about cruiser bicycles in Puerto Rico but It’s so rare to see someone on a cruiser over here, so I’ll include other types of bicycles and any related news. Thanks to Shelly from Riding Pretty for encouraging me to open my own blog about cycling as an alternative method of transport in Puerto Rico. I don’t know if it’s just me but it’s pretty hard to achieve this in Puerto Rico, lots of up’s and down’s and owning a cruiser doesn’t make it any easier. I own a Huffy Cranbrook Cruiser who goes by the name TIlly (Yes, I’ve named her), I’ve personalized her changing he original black seat to a leather like tan seat and the grips as well. I’ve decided I’ll be attending work on Sundays by bike (during the week a get off work around 11:30pm, I don’t really deem it safe) I’ll be attending my university on bike as well on mondays and wednesdays. ‘Til next time!!!

Thanks to LA Cycle Chic for letting me in on this, there’s a group called Red Carpet Riders who promote urban cycling & fashion, which is what I would like to promote here in Puerto Rico, but finding women in Puerto Rico who would want to do this I think will be a hard task, most of them don’t want to mess up their hair with the heat or a helmet (including me but I’m willing to make a sacrifice), there are not many, if any, bicycle lanes, we have to share the road with the cars, last weekend 2 cyclists were injured by cars, and buying a cruiser can prove to be expensive unless bought in a dept. store, like mine. I ‘m not even ready to ask if anybody is interested in a Tweed Ride. I don’t know how I’ll jump start a thing like this, but I supposed I should start moving this.
