Hey, I found this little diddy post worthy, mainly because the Back to the Future trilogy is one of the most fun and original movies to date. It’s iconic for me as a child of the 80’s and a possibility of a videogame is simply awesome! Behold below!

This is just a fan made mod, which means they’ve created a level and modified the computer game Crysis to create this little gem. It’s amazingly detailed and accurate to the movie as well. Now don’t mind the gun, it’s just part of the original game the mod was modified from. I’m hoping a true game developer will see this, and think of the possibilities. Who knows, within a few years, this may come to fruition! Thanks to Aint It Cool News for the highlight.

I saw this amazing mod video on youtube earlier today that lets you drive in the “Back to the Future” movie’s time machine. It’s honestly just a pretty short video but it really showcases the detail that went into the mod.

Now that Windows 7 has officially been launched, Direct X 11 games aren’t far behind. In fact there

Now that Windows 7 has officially been launched, Direct X 11 games aren’t far behind. In fact there are already a few DX 11 compliant games available in the market today and the coming months will see many more. Today we’ll check out some of the more interesting upcoming DX11 games :

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was all about immersion and whether you were roaming the Zone searching for loot in broad daylight or exploring some creepy old military base at night not knowing what lurked around the next corner, the feeling of dread was palpable. And now with the power of DX11 backing them developer GSC Gameworld can dial up the intensity to 11 to deliver an even more immersive experience for the sequel. The game’s already been released in Russia with the English version slated for a worldwide release this month.

Crysis 2

Not much is known about Crysis 2 at this point but if you’ve seen what the CryEngine 3 is capable of in some of the Tech demos floating around the net you know you’re in for one insanely good looking game. Since Crysis pushed the boundaries of PC gaming back in the day, I can only imagine the kind of hardware required to play this game in all its graphical glory.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

The boys from B Company are back and this time they’re really gonna tear things down as DICE has promised even more destruction courtesy of a heavily modified Frostbite engine. While details regarding the single player are still scarce I am mighty impressed with the way the game’s online component’s turning out. PS3 owners will get a chance to sample the action via a beta that’ll be available by the end of this month while PC gamers sadly have to wait till December for a piece of the pie.

Lost Planet 2

Now this is pure speculation on my part since the game’s not even been “officially” announced for the PC but since Lost Planet came out for the PC a few months later, I’m guessing Capcom will dish out similar treatment to Lost Planet 2. And since Lost Planet was launched as a DX10 title, I think it’s fair to assume that Lost Planet 2 will ship with DX11 compatibility.

Alan Wake

Yes I know the PC version of the game is nowhere on the horizon but developer Remedy has always been faithful to PC gamers and I know (and seriously hope) that sometime in the future they will release this game on the PC. And when they do, you know it’s going to be DX11 all the way.

Aliens vs. Predator

When two iconic characters cross each other’s paths you know it’s gonna hit the fan. Throw in highly armed testosterone charged marines and you’re looking at some awesome three way action. The game’s being developed by Rebellion games, creators of the very first AVP game and will allow players to play as all three races through the course of the single and multiplayer campaign.

DIRT2

Dirt 2 released for the Xbox360 and the PS3 in September but the PC version was pushed back to December so that the game could take advantage of DX11 allowing Codemasters to present us with ‘the best-looking racing game that has ever existed.

[Tech2.0]

I’ve been wondering what deep childhood event that I’ve repressed has caused me to automatically wee

I’ve been wondering what deep childhood event that I’ve repressed has caused me to automatically weep and sit quivering in a corner whenever the subject of graphics comes up in conversation: Yet again I feel drawn to write about graphics. I’ve finally finished Hitman (No thanks to you Craig) and looked at what I now have to play. This does of course include nothing, until I remembered about a game with cockney aliens, a half naked blue lady and a giant monster thing. Thanks to some randomer on Twitter, I can now attest to the name being Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Thanks to the wonders of Good Old Games (Which has a 100% track record with me so far, give it a try), I’ve now bought it legally, and am playing it through.

Before you get worried about me taking you to a nostalgic Neverland, I just wanted to note something that I saw while playing it. By today’s standards, graphically, it’s shocking. The whole world is built up of visible triangles (Or pyramids. Whatever geometry geek), and playing it in first person just felt…weird. Yet it’s fun. I’ve spoken about the fallacies of thinking graphics = fun before, but I can imagine that in the days this game was released, the box would have had on the back something like ‘Fight your way across 3 lifelike islands’. I doubt that even at the time it looked lifelike, but it would’ve been cutting edge technology at the time. Now? It just looks like you scaled every graphical slider you could to minimum. How about you try it?

I expect this is where the hardware geeks decide to come up in arms saying “But this graphics card cost me £XXX, I’m bloody using it”. Well, before you do, remember that that will make you sound like a whiny little child, so just sit there and think of a proper counter argument. I’m well aware that these graphics cards shouldn’t be put to waste. If anything, I’m suggesting you give these poor defenceless piles of silicon the chance to put their feet up instead of crunching millions of numbers to provide you with a few pretty pictures.

I think it’s another case of “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone”. Make the jump from Giants to Crysis and suddenly you’ll realise that it is a pretty game. If you can run Crysis on megahigh, put it down to low for a session. When you throw it back up, everything will seem much more realistic. Give it a try.

537,000 copies sold. Nathan Drake can get that hot tub he’s been wanting. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was the top-selling console game for the month of october. It beat out Halo 3: ODST by quite a leap. Uncharted 2 is more than likely going to be one of the top 10 selling games for the holiday season.

The colon is getting overused for game titles by the way. Halo 3: blah blah, Uncharted 2: Stuff, Dragon Age: the first game, and Resident Evil: OMG Zombies! Someone needs to make a game with a semicolon in the title. That will sell better. Dante’s Inferno; I will play this game.

My gaming has been an erratic hodge podge lately. I picked up Crysis when it was on sale this weekend via Steam. So far so good. It does have very impressive visuals that make my machine whimper a little bit. The multi player is rather good actually. I’ve also been playing Dragon Age to the point of exhaustion, and dabbling in Overlord II.

My finger is bandaged so typing is a chore right now.

Anyway, keep gaming people!

… Was will man mehr? =)

Títulos mundialmente conhecidos, como The Sims 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Spore, Need for Speed, Command an Conquer, Battlefield, Mass Efect e Crysis representam grandes lançamentos no mercado.

There’s no shortage of wars in today’s world.

The horror of aggression, forced oppression, control and even genocide are an everyday occurence. It’s said there are enough guns in existence today to arm one out of every twelve people on the planet. What that means to me is the other eleven aren’t trying to steal my job. Yes, business is good for a digital mercenary.

The only problem is living long enough to enjoy retirement.

I have only been out of work for a week. Well, five “business days” — if you can call them that in my industry. Partly by choice, but mostly of necessity. I needed the break to transfer all my operations to my new laptop (see previous postings), and to take a small vacation from the constant barrage of gunfire aimed in my general vicinity. Yes, business is good.

News feeds of electronic conflicts are in no short supply, either. All week my cell phone has lit up with RSS feeds and emails. The Borderlands seems to be the newest hot spot for soldiers such as myself. No doubt the war is raging quite fiercely there, with veterans and greenies alike. I’m also confident there are enough “kids” there shooting their mouths more than their weaponry with access to the war there via 360 units. Not my cup of whiskey — I prefer to take aim at older, more sophisticated targets. Call me a snob, but I’d rather catch a bullet by someone that’s seen as many tours of duty as I than some young punk smacking bubble gum straight off his mum’s teet with a chip on his pre-pubescent shoulder and a lucky shot.

Other news feeds are pointing to a growing conflict in the Call of Duty armies — their second Modern Warfare war. I say “growing” lightly, as more soldiers have pre-enlisted there than any other conflict before. I will eventually enroll there, once my real-world cash flow stabilizes.

Until then, I’m eyeing an old turmoil in Africa to join. If you’re going to kill digital enemies, you may as well be somewhere gorgeous while you do it. And I hear Africa is nice this time of year, if you can avoid the malaria.

It’s usually at about this time in the console life cycles (4-5 years in) that the PC begins to pull ahead with raw power, and we start seeing noticeably superior games (graphically). Moore’s Law is still in effect, but being able to see large graphical improvements in games is getting harder to discern. There is usually always one developer who steps up with an amazing looking game on the PC, even if it’s only for bragging rights, but at this stage the two year old Crysis still holds the crown and there is not much else in the pipeline except maybe Rage, Project Offset, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, although from the trailers I’ve seen none of these look better than Crysis.

This raises some questions. Have we reached a plateau with graphics? Is what we have “good enough”? If the PC is a barometer of where graphics are heading, as it has been in the past, then things are definitely slowing down. There is a case of diminishing returns as you get closer to photo realism and you don’t need any more power to make the side of a building or a race car track look more realistic than they do now on current technology. But surely there is still a long way to go with animations and rendering people? and physics could still be greatly improved. Maybe it’s just another indicator that the PC is a shadow of it’s former self as a major games platform?

Intel are hoping that their new Larrabee graphics cards will revitalise the market but unless they are blindingly fast and developers get on board with them they will only add to the problem because they have a different architecture to current GPUs which will mean more development costs when making games for them.

I hope we haven’t already had all the great leaps forward in visual fidelity and further improvements prove to be only incremental. I still want to be blown away. I guess we’ll have to wait for the next-gen of consoles to find out how significant the improvements can be.

Arkadaşlar bu yazımda sizlere son yılların ünlü aksiyon oyunu Crysis’i anlatacağım.

Her durumda işe yarar.

This is how I play Crysis, pixels and all So, you buy a computer that you think is really awesome. L

This is how I play Crysis, pixels and all

So, you buy a computer that you think is really awesome. Look at that graphics card! I’m sure it can run everything! You install one of your favourite games (which in my case, is TF2) and you try to play a round. But wait! You’re lagging like a snail! You’re running slower than an inanimate object! The graphics are so choppy you’re starting to lose sight in your right eye. (And they say games cause bad eye sight, psh!) Well, I obviously have been through that. I can’t play any newly made games because my computer is really bad. Now most of you are probably thinking, I can just buy the parts I need to make my computer better, or I should just buy a new computer to play the games I want to play. But the problem is I don’t have any money for any kind of upgrade . This leads me to the topic blogging about. The fact is, PC gaming always changes, and you’ll have to continually update your computer’s graphic cards to play the newer games at a respectable speeds. Now this is different for those who are rich, and already have a godlike computer that can run Crysis with everything on high, but for people like me who are dirt poor (not really but you get the idea), will have trouble keeping up with PC gaming. I’d love to keep up with new PC games, a lot of people will agree with me, PC games looks beautiful, especially Crysis and other games like Aion. It’s worth playing games like that, but most people don’t have the kind of money to actually make their computer play those games with high settings, most of them will have to stick with sub-par low/medium settings which somehow beats the purpose of the amazing graphics the game can offer.

But you don’t have to have perfect graphics to play a game. I know a lot of people who play PC games with everything on medium or low (or well, most of the options were low/medium). People have different preferences I suppose, some people don’t care about graphics, some people think it’s the thing that makes the game. But sometimes, even if you have everything on low, the gaming experience will still suck. I tried playing TF2 on my computer with low settings, and everything turned down to the lowest option. It was terri-bad. I hated playing TF2 that way; it looked like random blogs of crap splattered on my screen moving inch by inch. I’m sure that all of my friends who play on low options would have to agree with me. It looked scrunched up, I couldn’t see my HP or ammo, it was really bad.

Computer gaming will cost a lot of money. Buying those graphic cards, those RAM sticks, and the possible new computer will burn a hole through your pocket, and possibly hurt your heart if not stop it. But you don’t necessarily have to play with perfect everything, it really depends if you have the kind of money to be constantly updated in the computer gaming genre. But hey, I’m not trying to change how you think about PC gaming. Whether or not you think PC gaming is worth it, or not is just another opinion.

I would love to hear all your opinions on this subject too! Please leave a comment

Having played the superb Batman: Arkham Asylum through to completion recently, I couldn’t help

Having played the superb Batman: Arkham Asylum through to completion recently, I couldn’t help but wonder: Why can’t all games be like this? Not in terms of the gameplay specifics, of course, but with regards to the polish and general professionalism of the thing. It’s the slickest game I’ve played in many a year, whether you’re talking technology or interface or design, and inevitably shines a rather harsh light on the productions of other studios.

Why can’t the unusual, fascinating STALKER have the production values and stability of Batman? Why can’t every role-playing game ever made have a melee combat system this satisfying? Is it asking too much for the daring creators of the likes of ArmA2 to craft an interface as immediate and logical as Rocksteady’s efforts? Why can’t Crytek harness the incredible technology witnessed in Crysis to a game this exhilerating and rewarding? Conversely, when are Valve going to combine their unrivalled level design with something this accessible and sexy?

Which got me thinking: What would be the perfect combination of developer talent? If you were to create a Frankenstein’s monster by kidnapping the best and the brightest from the industry and locking them in a room together, who would those lucky few comprise? Without further ado, my suggestions for the developer most likely to create The Perfect Game would be something like this:

Concepts & art design

Team Ico + Doublefine

Visual design is an area in which the gaming medium excels. While it struggles in other arenas such as writing, acting and often even the all-important gameplay, the visuals are usually astounding, improving exponentially every few years as new technologies enable the artists to realise even wilder fantasies. The two developers most consistently pushing boundaries and exploring new territory are the chaps behind Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and Tim Schafer’s crew over at Doublefine. Team Ico’s PS2 creations were cult hits and pushed both gameplay and visuals to new heights on that platform, with Shadow of the Colossus easily holding its own against many supposed ‘next gen’ launch titles (why haven’t Sony done a high definition re-release for the PS3?) with its unique, towering behemoths that trod a mysterious line between architecture and organism. Meanwhile, Doublefine’s unique creations in Psychonauts and Brutal Legend dare to move away from the generic Space Marine template to conjur entirely magical settings and characters.

Engine

Crytek + Epic

It’s all too easy to dismiss Crytek as a developer that creates awesome engines but subpar games – easy because it’s largely true. Far Cry and Crysis are by no means bad games, as they are both highly enjoyable in a simple, low-budget, European, action b-movie kind of way. It’s the huge disparity between their truly unrivalled technical prowess and debatable design skills that inevitably highlights their shortcomings in the latter department, perhaps unfairly. Nobody can deny their ability to craft a fine explosion, though, and they’re one of the few developers still willing to push cutting edge computer technology to its limits – even if there’s only a handful of potential customers that can witness it first hand.

Meanwhile, Epic have taken the mid-ground, creating a scaleable engine not quite capable of the finesse seen in Crytek’s offerings but providing a much more solid gaming foundation, resulting in it powering most of the current generation’s major titles. Unreal Engine 3 has its flaws, such as the bizarrely plasticky characters that seem to be unavoidable, but it’s nevertheless versatile and stable. It also achieves some of the more remarkable loading times, whether on console or PC.

World building

CD Projekt & Rocksteady

Perhaps the obvious candidates for this category would be the likes of Bioware and Bethesda, responsible for the sprawling RPGs that allow players to roam about in a fictional world, whether it be the future (Mass Effect) or Tamriel (Oblivion). They go to great pains to give each item in the world an explanation, every character a backstory, every location a history. It’s all very detailed and all very encyclopaedic, but it never really feels alive. The worlds in those games feel like databases of vaguely interesting information that has no real relevance on your gameplay experience. By focusing so heavily on inconsequential details, often the bigger picture is missed.

Instead my picks would be CD Projekt and Rocksteady, both of whom have proved particularly adept at understanding the essential nature of licensed IPs – in the former’s case the Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski and with the former DC’s iconic Batman superhero. The trick they both demonstrate is an ability to identify the core elements of a characacter or world: they’re not distracted by irrelevances or the obvious spectacle, instead delving into crucial elements that will only be directly recognised by fans, but which even the casual osberver would feel by their absence.

Bioware and Bethesda can create worlds full of detail. CD Projekt and Rocksteady create worlds full of personality.

Level design

Valve & 2K Czech

All the above is meaningless without a good game beneath all the fictional context. These two developers know how to extrapolate a fictional world into a proper game – or perhaps vice versa. The Half Life games have repeteadly shown a deftness of touch in their general design, with a flowing, naturalistic approach to the game space that has proved increasingly influential, with many games now eschewing the basic Doom-style level structure. Their genius particularly lies in integrating the fictional world and story into the architecture itself – Half Life 2 tells its story through incidental details rather than elaborate cut scenes and is all the more involving because of it.

2k Czech are back on the radar at the moment thanks to the forthcoming Mafia 2. Despite the apparent excitement over the sequel, the original game was confined to a niche group of admirers, at the time being rather ignorantly dismissed as ‘GTA with boring cars’ – a shorthand that many lazy journalists and simple gamers will no doubt recycle once the new game is out. What 2k Czech realised is that the free-roaming sandbox design of GTA absolutely does not work in the context of a largely linear, scripted story. The GTA games are at their best when they let you do silly things; every attempt to force you down a gritty, resonant storyline in GTA IV puts a barrier between you and the emergent gameplay possibilties. With Mafia, 2k Czech (then known as Illusion Softworks) knew the story they wanted to tell and they knew their city. When you’re sent out into the world, it’s with a purpose, the story constantly driving you onwards to different locations and times of day, rather than leaving it up to random chance and the arbitrary, immature whims of the player. Mafia’s harsh police activity prevents you from behaving like a comedy serial killer and the drama soars because of it, avoiding GTA’s uncomfortable blend of daftness anarchy and supposedly important decisions.

Writing

Doublefine

Paul Dini did a pretty damn good job with the Batman: Arkham Asylum script, aided in no small part by the voice talents of Mark Hamill. For a writer from a different medium he showed a remarkable affinity for adapting to a new environment, albeit with an over-reliance on cut-scenes. But Dini is still no match for Tim Schafer, masterful wordmonger behind The Secret of Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango and Psychonauts. They’re not all great games, each with their fair number of flaws, but the writing is unmatched in gaming.

Schafer’s games are fun – Psychonauts is a glorious platform extravaganza – but rarely groundbreaking in their gameplay, while his stories and characters throw more ideas at the player than most games put together. Most of his recent projects have been pursued by tedious studio executives attempting to interfere, with both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend havinv troubled developments. I’d love to see what Schafer could do if he actually had studio support from start to finish, and the kind of budget that World War 2 and Space Marine shooters enjoy.

Interface & QA

Rocksteady & Infinity Ward

Most of the games that attract my attention are ones that try hard but don’t necessarily succeed in all areas. STALKER. Morrowind. Deus Ex. The Path. Darwinia.

Sometimes, though, it’s a pleasure in itself to play something that is so finely tuned, so delicately balance and polished and tested and focus grouped, that it is an entirely effortless experience. Usually this also results in a soulless, dull game, with innovation and production value often seeming mutually exclusive, but sometimes a real gem sneaks through. Batman is one, Call of Duty is another. I’m unaware of Rocksteady’s previous work, but Batman manages to be both blockbuster and sensitive, intelligent comic adpatation at the same time. Call of Duty is a war shooter but one that is always pushing forward with new ideas, often interative but never staying still (as long as you stick to the Infinity Ward ones, that is). Call of Duty 4 introduced a mass of new concepts to the war shooter genre, even managing to create sympathetic, memorable characters and a modicum of satirical elements that dared to highlight the less pleasant aspects of warfare.

Both developers managed to push themselves without sacrificing quality. If only more developers had the time, skill and money to do so.

It’s all a fantasy, of course. Developers will continue to go off in their own isolated directions, specialising in certain areas and ignoring others. I’m fairly sure I’m not the only one that would like to see Half Life 3 using the latest Crytek engine, though.
