Yellooo… how do you guys do? I hope you are having a nice day. Ceritanya hari ini dapet plugin

Yellooo… how do you guys do? I hope you are having a nice day.

Ceritanya hari ini dapet plugin2 photoshop dari temen… lumayan buat nambah2 filter
Singkat cerita karena penuh percaya diri + sotoy abis, langsung aja copas ke folder plugin photoshop. Ternyata tak dinyana, saat running PS, muncul pesan error “This application failed to start because msvcrt10.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”

Nah loh! Akhirnya (lagi-lagi) minta bantuan sama Mas Google (hari kamis jadi Mas2..klo rabu jadi Engko2) dan ketemu dua link yang sangat membantu :

1.www.irfanview.com/plugins.htm

2.pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/msvcrt10-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm

–> bukan iklan terselubung

So that is that, and this is absolutely this. Semoga posting yang norak ini cukup membantu.
Wassalam

Recently I updated my imaging software from Photoshop CS3 to Photoshop CS4. The main feature of the update for me was the addition of a neutral-density graduated filter “mimic” within the RAW input: something that is very useful to me for all those older slides and pictures taken when I didn’t have a suitable range of filters.

One thing that wasn’t as welcome though was the changes Adobe had made to the Bridge part of the program. They’ve rearranged the output to web gallery feature so that it took me ten minutes to find it, and they have amended the feature so that it no longer has the option to include the metadata in the jpegs output for the web which is ridiculous. I can understand that a few people may want to squeeze every last bit of data to get their jpegs down to the absolute minimum size but there are plenty of other people out there who’d want the choice, especially when websites such as Panaromio and Flickr can take the metadata and use it to automatically complete photo titles, descriptions, geotagged co-ordinates and tags.

There are Flickr users who like to examine the EXIF information to learn how good pictures have been taken as well.

I find Adobe’s tinkering in removing features I make much use of infuriating to say the least, and this isn’t the first time I’ve found this with Adobe either!

Because of this I’ve learnt to keep older versions of software installed on my machine and I see that I’m going to be chopping and changing between CS3 and CS4 for a while.

Until today (literally), I’ve tried my hardest to stay away from using Photoshop to edit my photographs. I’d open up the program and think “Oh man, what in the world do I do with all these tools….what’s this layer thingo? Agh, forget it,” and that’s as far as I’d get.

Today I had a lot of time on my hands. I’ve got a fever and sore throat that kept me away from work, so between naps and copious amounts of tea, I’ve begun studying how to use Photoshop CS4. The result is the image you see above. This one of Bridget’s favorite close-ups from our little impromptu shoot on Saturday evening (being out in the cold that evening is probably what made me sick!). Most of the editing and retouch was actually done in Lightroom 3 Beta, including brightening the eyes and spot removing blemishes, as well as minor adjustments to color.

In Photoshop CS4, I quickly fell in love with the stamp tool, which allowed me to very easily remove lines on her face, particularly under her eyes, and bring out a little more detail in her hair. Here’s the shot straight out of the camera for reference:

Nikon D300s + Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC, same settings as above, SOOC

Huge difference here! (Bridget still looks very lovely of course). This image was a great catalyst for my beginnings in the world of Photoshop. In all, the entire process took only about 10-15 minutes from start to finish, showing how a little touch-up work can go a long way in portraiture. What really impressed me is how seamlessly Lightroom works with Photoshop. Once I was done with initial editing in Lightroom 3 Beta, a Command + E keystroke (Mac) opened the image in CS4. When I finished with CS4, I simply saved the image and closed the window, which brought me right back to Lightroom 3 Beta with the CS4 edits applied. Doesn’t get any easier than that!

Here's the touched-up version (top) right over the out-of-camera image for easier comparison

Her nose is a little red from the cold, but I’m sure that’ll be fixed as WordPress seems to desaturate my photos! What gives, WordPress?! They look how I want them too while I’m editing the HTML, but as soon as I publish the post, the colors look off. Different browsers seem to render the colors differently as well, so I’m really not sure what you’re seeing if you’re reading this! Oh well….

And so, with my fear of Photoshop gone, I’m going to hit the books and see if I can’t really see what this program can do. I’m excited!

*Cough Cough*

langkah 1, buat mata

langkah 2, sempurnain bagian mata

langkah 3, buat alis

langkah 4, buat layer baru (layer hidung), lalu buat hidung, cukup di blog aja kaya gambar dibawah, masalah bentuknya nanti bisa diurus dengan Burn Tool

langkah 5, buat layer (layer bibir) lalu buat bibir

langkah 6, buat layer baru (layer muka) lalu blok bentuk muka, sama seperti hidung masalah bentuk nanti saya dengan burn tool

Capture NX2 is an integral part of my workflow and provides some very powerful tools for editing. One of the drawbacks is that NX2 has not gained a large share of the post process market and therefore does not get as much coverage as the more popular programs like CS4 and Lightroom. This makes finding good resources, tutorials and tips online very difficult for NX2. One advantage to NX2 is the somewhat intuitive interface, but unlocking its full potential can still be very time consuming.

In my search for additional resources I came across the website DPT&T. I was pleased to find tips and tutorials that went beyond the basic control point, and dust removal steps. Some of the links on the site (click here) take you back to the Nikon NX2 website, but they also list their own tutorials along with other sites that have relevant information.

If you are a Capture NX2 user and are looking for good information on what NX2 is capable of hop over to DPT&T and check out the information.

Learn how you can hire a RED camera for less than most pro video cameras a day, and shoot up to 4K feature film quality and then edit that footage natively in Premiere Pro CS4, grade in After Effects and then produce a BluRay DVD of the project, all native, all realtime. Its pretty cool stuff actually.

Recently one of my colleagues was having issues in registering a piece of Adobe CS4 software on one of our user’s PCs. The product code was numeric and it was being refused each time he entered it. It even got to the point where he had another colleague check he was entering it correctly. After some frustration and a bit of research he discovered a suprising fact….

The reason the registration was failing was because he was keying in the numeric code using the numeric keypad on the keyboard rather than the top line of numbers on the qwerty keyboard. Once he swapped to entering the product code on the top row the product code was accepted and he could install the product.

Why have Adobe done this? We’ve no idea, but hopefully now you won’t get caught out next time you’re installing an Adobe product.

In the last week or so I’ve been brought to think about my philosophy of art several times (read: several times more than usual). In the ceramics studio this week we had a critique and one of the themes that emerged was that the problem solving process in which we discovered the sort of objects we want to bring into the world was far more engaging and rewarding than the actual finished object itself. Our graphic design class took a field trip to Fresh Produce (www.pickfresh.com), a local graphic design agency this week as well. They discussed their design process, which also happens to be all about the creative process (marinating ideas!). The Fresh Produce office also happens to be about the coolest office imaginable. All this talk about the process got me thinking I would give my shot at explaining my feelings on the subject – and the timing worked out perfectly with an assignment in graphic design, the prompt being simply “art is…”.

I decided I would do an illustration of the process. It’s ironic because I went through such a struggle trying to find a way to show what “art is” through one image – and that struggle turned out to be the image. I sat down and for several hours threw as many ideas out of my head and into my sketchbook, the result being that most of them wound up being crumpled up and tossed out (metaphorically – I think it is useful to keep the preliminary ideas around, as you never know when part of that idea will also be part of the solution down the road). This probably sounds really frustrating, and it can be.

But there is also something exhilarating about wrestling with a problem, and we’ve all experienced that feeling. Think about a time when you stubbornly refused to give up on a problem, because deep down you were enjoying the problem-solving process, as frustrating as it may have been. And then when you finally found the solution, you were maybe even saddened that you were no longer working on the search for that solution. That is how I felt with this last illustration. I am fairly happy with the final product, but the real enjoyment and the worth were inherently part of the process (as well as a couple of really late nights spent with wheat thins and a mocha chai latte!).

So I suppose I ought to explain the process for creating the image then if that’s where the art is, right? Once I had finally settled on a direction (I won’t go into detail about all the concepts on the path to this one, I imagine most wouldn’t find it nearly as interesting as I do), I took a whole bunch of reference photos, since I’m not at the level yet where that sort of drawing can just jump straight out of my head (I’m working at it!). Then it was a matter of making the four separate drawings from a composite of different elements of my references. I drew the lines in Photoshop, and once the line drawings were finished I brought them into Illustrator where I used a nifty little feature called Live Trace which basically turns your linework into a vector based image – as if you had drawn it in Illustrator to begin with. With the four drawings in Illustrator I arranged them into the final composition, focusing on creating a sense of movement from one figure into the other. I learned a great deal about altering brush settings in Photoshop as well as the live trace settings in Illustrator while working on this image – another reason the process is so valuable to me.

With that, what are your thoughts about process vs. product? I imagine there are some instances where the final product absolutely must be the emphasis, but don’t lose sight of the worth of the journey in getting there!

(p.s. If there is any interest, I would love to put up a tutorial for creating a good drawing brush in photoshop. Drop a comment if you’d like that!)

I lecture at the College of Digital Photography on Photoshop and very often I hear students tell me

I lecture at the College of Digital Photography on Photoshop and very often I hear students tell me that friends and family will say to them that using Photoshop is cheating. I have also heard some photographers say that they are “purists” and don’t do any Photoshop “manipulation”. I find that this kind of comment is usually because of a lack of understanding of what photographers used to do in the darkroom before digital photography and Photoshop came about, as well as a lack of understanding of what Photoshop can actually do and how a photographer should use it effectively. The tragedy is that there are many digital photography “purists” who are not using Photoshop and so are not getting the absolute best results possible, their digital images might be very good, but with a little tweak here and there in Photoshop, that image could become spectacular.

In an article that I read while putting this blog together, the opening line from Kodak’s website on darkroom techniques says this: “No one is a complete photographer until he or she gains a fundamental knowledge of darkroom practice” This is more true now than ever. What used to happen in the past when we handed our film into the lab to be developed was that they would check each image and make subtle corrections to colour and contrast anyway. The photographer was never consulted on this, the lab just did it. The photographer then picked up their images and Voila! They looked great and the photographer walked away thinking that they were a great photographer based on the results they got. Very often, they didn’t realize that there had been some adjustments made to their images “behind the scenes”

Digital has changed all this now. Very often, when you drop off your digital images at a lab to be printed, you walk up to the computer screen at the front of the shop, load your images onto their machine and then go to the counter to confirm when the prints will be ready. Most of the time, no image adjustments have been made (apart from the ones made in camera – more on that in later posts) and so the image is exactly how it looked on your camera. The lab prints the images. You then come to collect them and when you look at them, you can’t understand why they are so “dark” or why the colour seems so flat or the clouds are so dark? This is because the lab has not made any adjustments to your images and very often the photographer will blame the camera or say that digital is just not as good as film was. Well, the reality is that digital photographers need to take control over their image processing and not leave it up to the lab or anyone else for that matter. Once we do take control of the image editing process and master the techniques offered in Photoshop, the benefits will be obvious….

So what happened to the Darkroom?

The darkroom of the past, the one with all the chemicals, Fixers, Stabilisers etc has now gone virtual. In the past, the darkroom was the only way to get images captured on film to be printed. The same is true for digital, with a difference though…the computer and using photoshop is the only way of getting images off your digital film (the memory card with the images on it) and into the lab to be printed.

In the past, the darkroom was used to develop and process images, but also was used to correct and enhance images. The key here is the words “correct and enhance”. The first step was to develop the images so that photographer could see what they had, but then, they would go to the next step and start correcting images or areas of an image. They would correct exposure, lighting, colour, saturation and many other things in the image. They would also then use the creative side of the darkroom and enhance certain images, or adjust certain items within an image to create an effect. This was all done in the Darkroom. Today, this is all done in Photoshop….not much has changed.

What processes were done in the Darkroom?

The list of processes that could be done in a Darkroom is incredibly exhaustive, whole books have been written on this topic and still today there are some photographers who use the processes or even alternative processes to create a fine art image, these are often called alternative processes and can have some really dramatic and exciting results. If you are curious as to some of the processes that can be done in the Darkroom, then click here to go to Wikipedia’s list of processes.

This post is the first of probably three or four posts about the darkroom, digital or otherwise, so keep coming back and read up more about it.

The next article will give more details on what the darkroom can and cant do and what Photoshop can and cant do…who said the darkroom is dead?
