There are times when I cope less well. Minutes, days, months, weeks when things are just harder to bear. Like having to send photo’s of my Sons to the mother of the man who killed my daughter, because I am required to do so by Family Court order. Things just spin a little bit out of control at times like these.

My sleep suffers. I have headaches. My immune system crashes. My eczema flares. It is harder to stay in the present. I struggle to focus on day to day tasks. My mind freezes with flashbacks from the past. 

 I think probably it is because so much was hidden from me that now I am constantly searching and asking and checking. Although I have always had a curious nature at times like these it is hard to impossible to keep my curiousity in check.   I love social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter but I do have to say they only feed my quest for information. This week has proved particularly fruitful. I found several estranged family members and cast from my past. So bizarre to see a child of a sibling who I will never meet. To see familiar faces with the realisation they belong to strangers. 

In a way though it makes me feel like no-one can hide from me again. Especially not in plain sight. It also validated decisions I have made to cut people from my life for the sake of our ( mine and my children’s) well being. I did not feel regret or loss. Maybe sometimes looking back helps you to move forward?

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Gen.2:16-17, ESV)

 Before moving on to Gen.3, I want to write a few thoughts on two verses from Gen.2 that I deliberately skipped over before.  These two verses (quoted above) indicate the only prohibition that God gave to Adam when God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden.  Sounds pretty simple.  “Don’t eat from that tree, but feel free to enjoy all the rest!”  I think most of us would like to think, “Had I been Adam/Eve, I would have been content to stay away from that one tree.”  But honestly now, would you?

I remember just recently going into a building that had some exposed insulation.  I told my two sons (aged 7 and 4) “don’t touch that insulation.  It will make you itchy.”  I clearly laid out the restriction and the potential consequence (“Don’t touch or you might get itchy”), just as God had with Adam (“Don’t eat or you will die”).  Within about 5 seconds, one of my boys was touching the insulation.  We seem to have a natural tendency to want to do that which we have been warned not to do.

The world was Adam’s (and by the time we get to Chapter 3, Eve’s as well).  He could go where he wished, do as he pleased, eat what he wanted.  I have no idea how many trees were in The Garden, but I’m fairly certain they were numerous.  But one tree was off limits…out of bounds.  One out of hundreds?  Thousands?  ONE TREE!!  The Bible doesn’t tell us, but I suspect that Adam and Eve were both curious.  Did they even know what “death” was?  Why should they not eat of this tree?  What was so special about it?  In chapter 3, I’ll talk about the world’s first antagonist, the serpent, who began to put doubt in Eve and Adam’s minds about the necessity of God’s prohibition.  I may be wrong about this, but I suspect that even before the serpent spoke to Eve, Adam and Eve were already curious about this one restricted fruit.  Their curiosity alone may not have been enough to cause them to sin, but their curiosity was enough to give temptation a foothold.  (We are rarely tempted to do something that doesn’t at least interest us…)

Curiosity is a wierd thing. You can neither live without it nor with it.  I cannot imagine what life would be like if I were not curious about things. Imagine going to my chemistry class and nothing..absolutely nothing fascinating me or triggering my curiosity. Oh how dull would life be like if I observed everything with a passive indifference. Imagine no questions rushing up to my head when introduced to a new topic. I can only think that the result would be disasterously painful.  I would look at things and accept it with a ”cool” air. ‘Would it even be cool?’ I question myself. There is no doubt in my mind, that I would lose the essence of my being, if that ever happened to me.  Curiousity is not my character, it is my identity. Yet at times, even I find it hard to live with it. When I ask people questions after questions, it is only to quinch my thrist for knowledge…knowledge of everything and anything. It is said that curiosity kills the cat… I am the cat. If you do not want me to ask you questions about something, don’t bother telling me about it… or hinting at it. Once you do, I lose the power to stop myself from firing questions at you. Do not get me wrong here, I am not that nosy that I would tryna find out things about every other person I know. It’s only when I know that we are close enough that I even bother to act on my instinct and ask for more. Or else my shyness takes over my curiosity any day.  Again, just because I ask my close ones questions does not mean that I am judging or accusing them of anything. The questions are just that- questions. If I keep on asking you questions, it does not, in any sense, mean that I am trying to blame you … it just plain means that I want to know more. I just forget that, my curiosity might make others feel uncomfortable…it’s just that…I guess when I start feeling that someone is a part of me… I automatically assume that it must be the same way around. It’s not necessarily true…I realized it today.  I never meant to blame you… I would never blame you. It’s just my nature… I guess I just lack social skills. Perhaps, that’s why in all these years there has never been anyone who has loved me deeply for who I am. I guess there shall never be such a person. Maybe I am just that unlucky. I guess… But atleast I have started to come in terms with the fact that people are not open books… one cannot and should not take the liberty of reading it.  No matter how close you are to the person, never assume that they want to have a heart-to-heart with you. They just might not!  But I promise something else to myself today. I shall never be so close to anyone from now on… I shall not give anyone the power to hurt me. Why, I will never be myself with anyone… If they do not want me for who I am…. I do not want to share myself with them. I shall still remain that curious and bewildered girl… except no one will ever know her.  But atleast I still have things I ask question about. Thank God, even after years of probing atoms and its sub-particles, they do not stare into our eyes and tell us that we are making them uncomfortable and that I always blame them. What would I do otherwise?

What’s the best way to spend a rainy day?

Emergence of images  refers to the unique human ability to aggregate information from seemingly meaningless pieces, and to perceive a whole that is meaningful. This special skill of humans can constitute an effective scheme to tell humans and machines apart. This paper presents a synthesis technique to generate images of 3D objects that are detectable by humans, but difficult for an automatic algorithm to recognize. The technique allows generating an infinite number of images with emerging figures. Our algorithm is designed so that locally the synthesized images divulge little useful information or cues to assist any segmentation or recognition procedure. Therefore, as we demonstrate, computer vision algorithms are incapable of effectively processing such images. However, when a human observer is presented with an emergence image, synthesized using an object she is familiar with, the figure emerges when observed as a whole. We can control the difficulty level of perceiving the emergence effect through a limited set of parameters. A procedure that synthesizes emergence images can be an effective tool for exploring and understanding the factors affecting computer vision techniques.

Ihr wisst gar nicht, wie sehr ich in letzter Zeit auf Coeur de Pirate stehe! ♥ Jaja, ich weiß, es ist französische Musik, aber ich liebe es, oke? Hm, ich hasse das Fach Französisch, aber das liegt ja nur am Lehrer. Die Sprache und besonders die Lieder//Atmosphäre liebe ich, wirklich. Trotzdem ist Französisch nicht so wichtig, was soll ich denn mit dieser Sprache? hahaha. Außerdem ist da ja auch noch Yann Tiersen, ein grandioser Komponist! Seine Stücke sind echt wundervoll! Sie bringen mich meistens zum Träumen. ♥. Besonders schön sind seine Klavierstücke, w-w-wundervoll!

In letzer Zeit, passieren wirklich wenig Dinge. Am Mittwoch, also gestern, für Leute, die nicht rechnen können (hahaha), war ich mit Diana & Elisa & Lina Ku’damm. Zuerst Starbucks und dann noch ein paar Lädchen geguckt. Ich hatte überhaupt kein Money. :/ Aber najaa. Danach wollte Elisa in die Bibliothek, also sind Diana und Ich mitgegangen. Wir haben eigentlich relativ viel gelernt, und ich muss sagen, es war schon sehr schön. Mal fühlt sich manchmal wirklich toll, wenn man so viel lernt, echt. Also haben wir beschlossen, jeden Mittwoch in die Bibliothek zu gehen. Ich war ja schon voll lange nicht mehr dort, aber wird sich ja dann wohl ändern. ♥

Persona es un proyecto de Ángeles Ciscar. Una instalación/ performance en un espacio video vigilado que reflexiona sobre el cuerpo como soporte de construcción de la identidad. Una pieza que propone un juego de reflejos donde el público es un elemento activo dentro de la obra. Espectadores y Performer interactúan construyendo juntos la obra mientras son vistos en directo por otro público a través de internet.
