Of course you love your family and they want what’s best for you, but if you’ve chosen to elope your ceremony will be something special between you and your fiance. It isn’t about what your mother wants, what your grandmother says is best or what your bridesmaids think would be cool. It’s what YOU want.

Elopements are flexible, so they are ideal for tailoring to your personality. You can lean to the traditional side and have a lovely ceremony in one of the historic squares or Forsyth Park. You could choose a romantic sunset on the beach or the marsh for your big day. On the other hand, you may want to have your ceremony somewhere that celebrates your unique style. You and your fiance spend all of your time kayaking and want to get married on the water? No problem, we can do that. You have a deep love of history and want your union to incorporate one of Savannah’s historic landmarks? Not a problem. You want to say your vows in the middle of a crowd on Riverstreet or in City Market? You got it! It’s completely up to you. The sky is the limit! Hmm, I’ve never had an elopement on a plane, but as long as your marriage license is valid – why not?

I just think it’s an amazing opportunity to begin your life together the way you will actually live it!

One of my favorite tents to date had a sweet little flower garden as a focal point. It was full of  pretty snapdragons and had a mossy stone walkway that led up to the wedding cake table. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling and hundreds of twinkle lights glittered over the dance floor. Tall centerpieces of branches adorned with orchids and candles glowed on the tables and an ice sculpture reflected the flickering candle light. It was absolutely gorgeous! Did I mention it was February?

It never would have been possible without the tent.

Savannah has many fabulous venues to offer brides, but it’s her out of doors beauty that so many desire. The beach, the marsh, historic squares and parks are what make Savannah unique and each speaks to a bride in a different manner. Once she’s found the perfect location, nothing knits a bride’s brow faster than the mention of a rain plan while you’re pouring over the details of her out of doors soirée. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard, “It won’t rain” in response to my inquiry of the dreaded rain plan. While I LOVE that optimism and secretly say prayers that the weather will hold, there is no guarantee that mother nature will grant you a hall pass from a rainy day.

Having a solid rain plan will alleviate a lot of the last minute stress and worry over the weather. It also gives all the professionals charged with creating your perfect day a roadmap to follow so that everything runs just as seamlessly as if it were the original plan.

Need help with a rain plan? Call me!

The first thing I suggest is to decide if you want to elope or have a traditional wedding. Remember, choosing to elope doesn’t mean that you can’t have a reception at a later date, it just means you don’t want a big wedding.

The next thing to firm up is your budget. I know I sound like a broken record, but this is crucial to the planning process. It makes everything easier if you figure it out early on, so take a deep breath and make it happen. You’ll be glad you did.

If you’ve chosen the traditional wedding route, you can go in one of two directions. Package or custom. So I ask… how involved do you want to be? A truly customized wedding requires quite a commitment of time. If you want a combination, try a package with a la carte additions. This could give your wedding some personal touches while still maintaining the simplicity of the budget friendly package.

Savannah Wedding and Elopement Planner

 As she got ready in the girls cottage…

Wyatt goofed around with his groomsmen.  And to be honest, I think it took him longer to get ready… :)

They opted for a First Look which gave us plenty of time for photos around the Eagle Bluff resort..

The labels, invitations, and programs were all custom designed by the bride herself!  I was completely blown away by how amazing they all looked…

I loooved all the different center pieces Brittany had put together.  Each table was different, but all had a vintage flair…

She even had a kids table!  Who even thinks of that?!  Brilliant…

I’ve been rather neglectful of this little corner of the internet.  I like to think of it as the cyber equivalent of my bathroom which, up until I had guests over exactly seven days ago, had been ignored in the same, increasingly inconvenient way.

I’ve been listing photos on Etsy, which while not totally profitable is getting my work included in lots of treasuries, so I cannot complain.  Above is one the community just couldn’t get enough of the first couple of days it was up.

Metal Feathers is Good.

The ‘busy season’ has started at work again, so I’ve spent less time trolling the internet for awesome things.  But in the meantime, you should probably just check out Mike’s tumblr.  Which is fun to watch because Metal Feathers, my boyfriend’s band, is on their sometimes playing, sometimes heckling the people who are playing.  All in good fun, much like their new album, Contrast Eats the Slimey Green, which is so worth listening to.

Lastly, but not leastly, I’ve been working on a new project do develop bottle cap wine charms.  I’m also in to the idea of flipping these guys upside-down and doing custom orders for weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, etc.  The wedding market is truly untapped by Little Eye Designs.  Why, oh why?  First of all, I love weddings.  I love shooting weddings.  So why wouldn’t I furnish them, too?

This is just a little dose for now.  If you’re jonesin’ for some smarmy writing it’s probably better if you go visit The BIG THAW for awhile until all the dust settles in mid-April.  That’s where most of my efforts are, these days!

Every gal and guy that I’ve ever met who were in the sometimes nerve-wracking process of planning their own wedding has told me three things:  They want their wedding to be memorable, unique.. and they want it to be affordable.  Between invitations, cakes, dresses and tuxedos, music and receptions and everything else in-between the dollar signs can get bigger and bigger.   Well I have an option for you that you may not have considered when thinking about your invitations or save the date announcements.   If you are looking for unique, fun and thrifty I would suggest taking a quick look at what Zazzle has available.   Zazzle is a company that allows you to create unique and custom items for any and all occasions.  This means that a diverse selection of contributors have provided designs that you may not find in your typical store or wedding boutique.  This gives the prospective bride and groom even more flexibility on both price and choosing a design that they aren’t likely to see repeated again and again.

Of course, I’m not in the wedding business but I am a contributor to Zazzle, so I’m not just pointing out the great opportunities that Zazzle offers without a reason.   In fact, one of my best designs is for a wedding save the date postcard that also has matching invitations, RSVP cards (no envelopes) and remembrance gift magnets.  However, I also recognize that everyone has different tastes and I am sure that there are thousands of beautiful designs available throughout the Zazzle community and there is that perfect one for the style and theme of wedding you are hoping to create.   If all else fails, you could design your own announcements and invitations; making your wedding that much more personalized and unique.

We then worked on custom menu cards in two versions. One for the adults and a few for the children that would be attending. For the event we also created custom monogrammed moire luncheon napkins in gold with silver imprint. They looked fabulous!

After the dinner elements were complete, Ashley knew she wanted me to design some custom thank you cards. We incorporated the monogram “V” used on the menu cards and combined it all in a rich pewter printed on a natural white cotton paper and envelopes to match. The complete set was unified and carried the theme throughout.

Cindi’s creative work revolves around weddings, and in her post she encourages those planning their once-in-a-lifetime event to go local, handmade & one-of-a-kind by approaching artists whose work they love and collaborating with them on creating custom pieces for this special occasion.

She is creating paper lanterns from designs I created for her to follow. All the elements are fit perfectly for her project. I also designed the Table Numbers which actually have 4 sides. Only two designs for these which also will fit on custom designed paper lanterns. To create the perfect cherry blossom design we referenced a wall painting Jessica fell in love with. She knew exactly what she wanted from the beginning and I assured her I could bring her vision to life!

Lastly, I designed Gift Box sides for Jessica & Chad to use at the entrance. The sides looked just like the Table Number sides with their names. The whole set looked so beautiful together! When I presented them to Jessica she instantly knew she would be wanting more! Plus, I think I will be helping her with some more stationery elements; Thank You cards perhaps?
