Allen Millyard's amazing Dodge Viper engined motorcycle

Allen Millyard is one the best custom motorcycle builders in the UK, with a variety of one-off motorbikes, most featuring multi-cylinder engines like V8/V12 Kawasakis, to his credit.

His latest amazing creation made its debut at the UK International Motorcycle Show, which opened today, Friday 27th November 2009.

The Millyard Viper V10 features an engine from the Dodge Viper car, which Allen sourced from e-bay for £5000. The 500bhp motor transmits its torquey power via a two-speed auto gearbox to the rear wheel.  Allen made the entire chassis in his garage, with the front forks featuring Vauxhall Carlton damper units and Hagon springs. Six pot calipers, plus AP Lockheed front disc brakes help slow this 630kgs heavy machine.

But the weight of the bike, and the lack of fairing hasn’t blunted the performance. A recent test at Bruntingthorpe saw the Millyard V10 Viper special hit 207mph, making this arguably the fastest road legal, unfaired motorcycle in the UK. Allen’s special has passed the government SVA vehicle inspection, so it is taxed and insured for road use.

The bike has been ridden at high speed by a professional test rider, who was impressed with the bike’s sheer torque and its stability. The plan is to take the bike to Bonneville to set an ultimate top speed of perhaps 250mph. Lateral thinking engineer Millyard is also seriously considering a limited production run of the Viper V10 machine.

“Everything’s been designed in my head on this bike,” said Allen, ” but I want to build a pre-production prototype and do some proper design drawings, so there’s a kind of template to work from. We could make maybe ten bikes to individual owner specifications.”

Reaction at the UK’s annual motorcycle show, held at the NEC near Birmingham, was very positive, with many bikers commenting that Millyard’s V10, the Norton Commando launch and the new BMW six cylinder concept bike, were the main highlights of the event.

In my fifty-something years of gift-giving, I recall many a holiday season or special occasion, traipsing about malls or specialty shops looking for that special gift that was just right. Often, my mind’s eye even had a vision of what I was looking for. Eventually, I typically tired of the quest and settled for something that was “available”. In this article, I offer an alternative to “settle for what they have” and encourage you to seek out a craft professional to create your vision.

My most recent experience was my wife’s last birthday. She loves doves. You know; the birds. I had in mind to buy her a crystal dove she could admire on her desk at home. I visited all the department stores and special shops I could find throughout most of the day. I found several crystal figures; none of which were bird-like, and finally gave in to a crystal butterfly.

The next time I know what I want; I’ll follow my own advice and look for an artisan to craft my vision. Since everyone’s “gift vision” is different, it might not always be easy to find a professional to craft your gift locally. Well, that’s why Al Gore invented the internet. Oops, lost half of you? Seriously, there are likely to be at least dozens of craft professionals for any gift type you are considering, on the internet.

Let me give you one example where you can find a large variety of artisans; that is, custom crafted pens. Sure, you can go to your local Hallmark store and probably find a nice variety. But, if you really want to make an impression, explore some of the many internet sites by typing in something like “wood pens”, “custom pens”, or “exotic pens” into your favorite search engine.

Sites vary in terms of models and material options offered. The best of them will offer various models within the major categories of ball point pens, roller ball pens, fountain pens, and even pencils. Look at the detail page of offerings that appeal to you and be sure the model is offered with a variety of body material options. Some may offer various wood species or synthetic materials. By combining the category, model, and material selection, you should be able to find a selection that matches your “gift vision”.

The custom crafted pen is but one example of gift ideas that can be crafted to order. If you need some inspiration, type in “gift” or “gifts” into your search engine to find sites that will provide categories of gift ideas. You will find a variety of categories such as gender, occasion, age, etc. Once you settle on an item type, imagine what you would like your gift to be like. Would you change the color, or maybe the material it is made from? What would make it just perfect for the recipient you have in mind?

Now that you have developed your “gift vision”, type in the key words that will lead you to your custom crafter. If your vision is a crystal dove, like my introductory example, the words “custom crafted crystal dove” should do the trick.

As you explore the various sites, you can tell a lot by the presentation of the site itself. Is the site visually appealing? Is it easy to navigate? Does it offer security endorsements and a secure server for payments? Positive answers to these questions are likely to reflect well on the character and attention to detail the artisan provides in their product. Just remember. There’s more to consider than just whether a nice photo is displayed and the options you want are available.

Make you next gift-giving experience truly personal and rewarding by having your vision crafted. In review, the simple steps are:

(1) Imagine your gift in your mind’s eye

(2) Refine the details

(3) Search the internet for potential artisans

(4) and critically review the web sites and the product you are searching for. Once you have tried this approach to finding a gift, I think you might adopt it as a favorite.

We’ve gone through flooding in the house during winter (yeah…the pipes exploded and completely submerged our house, wait ’til you hear about it, it’s uber-epic), to being kicked out of our apartment (we’re renting), and having to move in a matter of a week! That probably doesn’t sound very difficult, but when you’re actually moving with your family, a small operation can turn into a major hindrance…especially when there’s discord among the crowds…

Oh well, before I digress, I’m going to jump straight back to the point: I’ve finally decided, after contemplating for months, to get my own domain name. Well, call it contemplating if you would. Just a matter of entering your credit card number and paying for three Starbucks coffee for a year’s worth of domain name purchase.

1. Loads of new principles coming up! (Trust me, if there’s one thing that you HAVE to have in life, that’s principles to guide you through it. Unlike your friends, families, girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses, etc., etc., they don’t change. That’s something to be thankful for in this ever-fluctuating world.) XD

2. I’m going to be doing a lot of new articles on computer science, and fancy as that sounds, there’s always a couple of myths and misconceptions floating around that’s bound to be fake. Since I’m also a novice in this area as well, learning about programming and hardware, I can truly understand how it’s like talking with experienced technical savvy people. Usually, they’re like ‘…multicore CPUs do not have an effect in concurrency…the division’s still based upon the same principles…and the thing to look out for is randomizing allocations of resources, since that’s exactly where most people neglect…’, and I nod fervently, even if I don’t understand most of it. Well, I’m kinda hoping to get the hang of Java, then move on to scripting languages like JavaScript, CGI, Perl, then familiarize myself with PHP, SQL, and look at new technology like Ruby on Rails. But, rest assured, that’s not going to all happen by Christmas.I’ll try and use my understanding of programming on the software side to help solve some common problems that people have, but again, when you commingle Java with things like .NET and Windows, things start to get a bit complicated, like my teacher said…

3. I’m really excited about this one…I’m hoping to set up a network of proper websites, which will be in development, which, again, will be delivering fantastic content on a variety of topics, mostly focused on internet marketing, software products, educational products on computers, and some self-development programs. I will make this promise to you: I will NEVER sell something, unless I think you’re getting more than what you paid for with hard-earned cash. Unless it benefits some part of your life to improve either your health, work, or relationship, I will NOT sell it. It’s only fair that I offer the best solutions to my valued readers in return for getting such wonderful support from this community.

• Material – Superfoam

Hier haben wir eine grandiose Idee, wie man ein Körper aus “aufgeschäumtem” Silikon herstellen kann. Wirklich aufgeschäumt wird da zwar nichts, am Ende des Prozesses sieht es jedoch so aus, als wären riesige Luftblasen in der zähen Silikonmasse hängengeblieben. Die Masse war jedoch nie zäh und hängengebliebgen ist auch nichts.  Die Negativform wurde einfach mit gaaanz vielen Luftballons unterschiedlicher Größe gefüllt und am Ende die  Zwischenräume mit einem sehr niedrig-viskosen Silikon ausgegossen. Das Ergebnis ist ein ziemlicher Hammer. Leider ist klares, gießfähiges  Silikon ziemlich teuer oder hat jemand eine günstige Quelle für sowas, die er oder sie mit mir teilen möchte?

Es geht mal wieder um motorisierte Zweiräder. Wrenchmonkees ist eine Manufaktur, die sich auf den Umbau aktueller Motoräder spezialisiert hat. Vorbild für die Kreationen sind jedoch Bikes der 60er und 70er Jahre. Cafe racer galore. Die geringe Stückzahl lässt aber auf hohe Preise schließen, da könnte ein Orginal fast billiger kommen. Die Motobikes sehen aber einfach umwerfend aus, meine Begeisterung für die britischen Bikes jener Zeit ist ja damals auch in den Entwurf des Trikes mit eingeflossen (siehe frühe Entwürfe von Tank und Sitzbereich)

Manchmal möchte Mann ja nur viel Geld verdienen, um sich seine Kindheits- und Jugendträumereien zu verwirklichen. Anders lässt sich das hier klickbare wohl nicht erklären. Mit der Hilfe eines Kulissenbauers entstand ein Heimkino im Stile eines gestrandeten Ubootes. So viel ausgewachsene Unvernunft ist auf jeden Fall mal einen Klick wert, handwerklich sieht das alles sehr sauber aus. Das kann man auch vom Design behaupten, schon recht stimmig das Ganze.
