When you right-click a file, there is a wealth of options available in the context menu that appears. At the bottom, you’ll notice Properties, and clicking it will let you change all sorts of things, and give you lots of info about the file (depending on the file-type).

In the first tab, Basic, you’ll see you can rename the file, and if you click on the icon on the left, you can change it to whatever you want. Note that this will change the icon only for the file specified, not all others of the same extension. If you want to change the icon for a whole file-type, read about creating your own mimetypes in Ubuntu.

If you’re ever having permissions trouble with a file, go to the Permissions tab and make sure you have full “Read and write“ access. Also, if files of a specific extension are not opening in anything (and a default program has been specified), or if scripts aren’t being executed, or certain text files not opening, then you may need to tick “Allow executing file as program“.

The last thing you can do is change the default application for the whole file-type under Open With, and all you need to do is select another from the list. You can +Add more, and if the app you want isn’t in the list that is presented to you, you can create your own custom command instead. In this example of .txt documents, if the desired program, Leafpad, isn’t in the Open With list, and isn’t presented after clicking +Add, you could type leafpad as the custom command.

So there you have a few ways to get greater control over your files. As you can see, changing the default program a file-type opens in is a quick and easy task, and you can customise your most important files to have their own unique icons.

The creative team at Badec Bros Deco was recently commissioned to manufacture a stainless steel, cascading water feature for a client. Firstly, we created seven Cubedec B pots – troughs – in varying dimensions from grade 304 stainless steel.

The stainless steel sheets were folded and welded together along a single seam line, to create a flawless overall appearance. Once all of the troughs were manufactured, we installed the water feature on site, with the lowest trough being filled with black pebbles.

We can also manufacture this stunning water feature from mild steel and finish it in one of three finishes, namely: a mild steel finish, rusted finish and powder coating finish. Badec Bros Deco has manufactured a wide range of impressive Cubedec pots over the past 2 years. One of the latest designs in our innovative collection of products is a Cubedec A slim pot with mirror mosaic detail.

Our Cubedec A slim pots are manufactured from 1,6mm mild steel sheets, which we fold and weld. All our pots are manufactured with a round inner steel bar to support plastic planters, which come standard with all our pots, unless otherwise specified. You can choose between three finishes for your Cubedec pot: rusted, mild steel finish, or powder coating in any colour you can dream of. Our powder coating is SABS approved. Once the chosen finish has been applied, we seal the pot to protect it from rusting.

What a fantastic day! It just keeps getting better…although its only been the second day, it seriously just keeps getting better and better! They filmed at my place today and I was amazed at how they turned my tiny bungalow into a live studio. They were able to fit all the lighting and sound equipment into my tiny space AND fit 10 people in there all at once! Ahhh…the magic of TV.

The lunch was fantastic–zucchini pancakes, brown rice with yummy veggies, fresh tossed salad, and delicious home potatoes. I being fed way too good and I have a feeling I’m going to eat waaay too much this week.

We started at 7:30am and shot way into the night till 8:30pm! I have a new found sense of appreciation for goes into a TV show now.

Ok…I’ll cut to the chase. The most fantastic part of the today was when I was surprised by       … and got some sexy        …. and then met          …who taught me how to      … yeah sorry, you’re gonna have to wait for the show to air in January!

I have NO IDEA what’s going to happen tomorrow…all I know is that mom is joining me at some point when she’s picked up and whisked away from Diamond Bar to meet us and Jimmy will be joining us in the afternoon. I’m so excited! Stay tuned…
