Do you know what your best colors are, and which you should really avoid? Well, we’ve made it easy for you to find out!

Scroll down and you’ll find a number of different hues based on our research of hair-clothing color complementing. You should definitely keep these tips in mind when prepping for prom or your next formal event!

Remember to finish our article, because some of the colors redheads should (almost) never wear are listed at the end!

All Shades: Always-Flattering Greens

All redheads should be able to pull off multiple hues of green, from frosty meadow to vibrant emerald. Greens will make your hair pop and your eyes glisten, too!

Fiery/Copper Shades: Warm Pastels

Girls with dark shades of red, including true red, should opt for warm pastels to complement their hair and – more than likely – their skin tone. Try one of the three following color groups for maximum vibrance!

Strawberry/Auburn Shades: Jewel Tones

Lighter-red shades, like strawberry blondes or brown-based auburns, are best complemented by jewel tones. Royal is our personal fave, but any of the following color groups will surely help you make a statement at any formal event, or even in everyday wear!

Most blondes can pull off pastel shades of almost any tint or tone. If you choose a soft pink, a light green or a pastel purple, you’re sure to look amazing on your big night!

Brights

Blondes don’t have to shy away from bolds! In fact, bright reds, blues and purples are perfect complementary colors to any light-haired girl. If you do choose red, make sure it’s a pure shade – avoid orange tints!

Neutrals

Solid black is often a go-to hue for blondes, because the high contrast between hair and clothing creates an amazing effect! Other neutral shades that blondes can pull off include browns and dark silvers/greys.

From Forever 21. I love the combination of pale yellow with the pop of hot pink. What you don’t see is the deep V of the back, another favorite feature of mine. The glasses are insane and would make anyone look like a fly, but this dress makes me think of Ferris wheels and cotton candy, and even after my time spent working at an amusement park, these are good associations.

From Nasty Gal. These colors are “white and mint”, and the dress is listed as “Julep” in their catalog, which makes me love it even more, because yum. Also the word “julep” makes me think of genteel verandahs, and that’s a nice thought. Nasty Gal says this dress’s cutout detailing is structured, so that’s of the good, and I absolutely love the two-toned color blocking thing it has going on. I feel like I’d have trouble NOT wearing this dress every summer day.

From iAnywear, which is now my new favorite site. It may be where almost all of my next paycheck will go. Anyway! This classy houndstooth number has only subtle shoulder cutouts, but since shoulders are probably my favorite human body part, this is perfectly okay with me. I want so badly to wear this with black tights and high-heeled leather ankle boots while sitting in a café nursing a chai latte and typing studiously. This will happen. Just wait.

From ustrendy.com. I think? I found it on Wanelo. SO CUTE and I usually don’t go in for this type of blue. I mean, who does, really? This is coming from a gal who owns both neon pink and bright teal sundresses. But this blue. Holy. Crap. That said, it’s still adorable. The heart-shaped back cutout really makes it spectacular, but I love the pleated A-line skirt too, and I think this frock would be beautiful even with a V back. I love the detail of the back though. So freaking cute. You could wear just this dress without any accessories or even shoes and you’d automatically win all the cuteness points, at least in my book.

Also from ustrendy.com. Urban Outfitters has a dress just like it right now, except it comes in various two-toned color combinations instead of just black. The strappy reverse cutout style of the bodice is totally Leeloo from Fifth Element, and I have a soft spot for the high-low skirt trend. These cutouts are a bit more extreme-looking than the other dresses on here, but I don’t know. I think this could still be really versatile. And showing skin is fun! As long as sunscreen is applied, because awkward tan lines are awkward.

Get that effortless hippie style with a flowing and comfortable gown!

Get Twiggy’s retro style with high-necked short dresses and geometric prints, and use exaggerated eyeliner and white lids to complete the look!

Since wearing necklaces with high or asymmetrical necklines can look a little weird, this is the time to show off some big ear bling! Chunky chandelier earrings won’t distract from your dress like a necklace would, and they’ll elongate your neck!

If your dress has a simple neckline, accent it with a bold statement necklace! This is great time to use a pop of color!
