I apologize for my absence as of late.  While I may have been invisible, I didn&#8217;t forget I ran a blog.  In fact, I&#8217;ve been working on new graphic designs for some vinyl that will be available at the end of the month.  I know I keep saying that, but I mean it this time.  The more I looked at my previous designs, the less pleased I became with them.  So while I toil away behind my monitor, I&#8217;ll let you soak up some eye candy at last month&#8217;s D1GP event in Odaiba.  Let&#8217;s take a little walk through the pits past the break.</p>

<p>It seems like just a few years ago that there were only a handful of various drift events around the world.  That didn&#8217;t last long though, as drifting spread like a plague from continent to continent, several different event series sprang to life.  I would think that D1 Grand Prix still has to be the most well known though.  Interesting fact &#8211; the S15 has been the all-time winning chassis of D1.</p>

<p>Ueno&#8217;s rumored 800whp drift-spec E92 sits on stands while mechanics tend to the rear end.  Impressive amount of power eh?  Well, that number is about what you could expect from the <a href="http://www.suivax.com/" target="_blank">SUIVAX</a> built 2JZ under the hood.  No that wasn&#8217;t a typo.  Actually, it&#8217;s pretty much the same engine that his competitor Saito has in his Chaser!</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve always been a fan of cars with two different colored wheels.  Don&#8217;t ask me why, it&#8217;s just one of those things.  Actually, I finally got the setup I want on my own car now (more on that later).</p>

<p>Aside from Mad Mike&#8217;s Red Bull RX-8, there aren&#8217;t too many well known RX-8&#8242;s that are built for drift.  I think it may be because the RX-7&#8242;s popularity overshadows it&#8217;s younger brother.  Rotary masters Amemiya built this SE3P chassis for Suenaga to compete in.  I believe it&#8217;s only the second SE3P to compete in D1; the first being the JIC built machine.</p>

<p>Like the title says, M. Kawabata performs <strong>&#8220;THE PERFECT DRIFT&#8221;</strong> IMO of all times @ D1 Grand Prix in Circa on August 2009.</p>
<p>With an outstanding performance and skilled driving being displayed this places M. Kawabata in 1st place @ this event.</p>
<p>For a moment I thought M. Kawabata was going to completely loose control and spin out, but man does he know HOW TO DRIFT SIDEWAYS!!</p>
<p>This is some MAJOR STEERING ANGLE FTMFW!!</p>
<p>The facial expressions and reactions on the D1 judges were PRICELESS!!</p>
<p>Did you guys notice the <em>S15</em> dash in M. Kawabata&#8217;s RPS13?</p>
<p>I thought that was pretty bad ass mod/custom work makes me wonder if I can do that in my 240SX S14&#8230;hmm&#8230;</p>
<p>It must be nice to be a D1 judge while sitting under a shaded area on a custom Bride seat to watch drifting all day long.</p>
<p>Watching this video sure makes me miss my old 91 Nissan 240SX S13 esp. having those Kouki tail lights&#8230;</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Round 1 of the D1 Grandprix drift series on May 2nd 2009 at the Angel&#8217;s Stadium in Anahiem. I showed up along with my brother Chip that morning at 5am all the way from Phoenix, we slept in the truck parked in the Del Taco parking lot for just about an hour! The Day before was rediculous, we barely got the motor back together a few days before and took it to the Tuner when we noticed the cam timing was setup to make more torque than horsepower (by skipping a tooth or two on the chain to change the powerband) and the GT2871R turbo we were using was running out of its efficiency range.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">So that night we changed the cam timing back to normal and took it to the Tuner in the morning. PROBLEM!! the Tuner was booked that day on his Dyno and he only had a half our during his lunch to do a couple street pulls and try to tune it then. But time was realllllly tight cuz we had to have the car loaded up and on the road to OC asap!</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">All in all, I did as best as I could with a car i&#8217;d never driven before, the ECU tune was way to rich and laggy due to not having enough time to adjust the fuel maps for drivability, and when we got to D1 i realized the only tires i brought were the ones on the car <img src='http://s2.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':-P' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Ended up placing 30th out of 50 or so, and got the License by a thread, man next time I promise I will be more prepared and bring a &#8220;perfectly prepared&#8221; car&#8230;.. and tires&#8230;..</p>

<p>Felipe Massa já conhecia o roteiro. E ontem, mais uma vez, o seguiu à risca. Largou da pole e venceu pela terceira vez consecutiva o GP da Turquia.</p>
<p>Desta vez, porém, a vitória teve sabor especial. Não só pela dificuldade da corrida &#8211;a mais emocionante da temporada até aqui&#8211;, que exigiu que o ferrarista guiasse no limite durante as 58 voltas, mas também porque o devolveu, de fato, à disputa pelo título do campeonato.</p>
<p>Com a segunda vitória em 2008, assumiu pela primeira vez em seis anos na categoria a vice-liderança de um Mundial de Pilotos. Apesar de Lewis Hamilton, segundo colocado em Istambul, ter os mesmos 28 pontos, o brasileiro leva vantagem por ter um triunfo a mais que o adversário da McLaren.</p>
<p>Kimi Raikkonen, que completou o pódio da quinta etapa do campeonato, continua na liderança. Mas viu sua vantagem cair de 11 para sete pontos.</p>
<p>O resultado abre a chance de Massa alcançar a liderança já no próximo GP, Mônaco. Desde 1993, curiosamente lá mesmo, no principado, que um brasileiro não lidera o Mundial &#8211;na ocasião, Ayrton Senna.</p>
<p>&#8220;É uma emoção sensacional vencer aqui pela terceira vez seguida, no mesmo lugar em que ganhei pela primeira vez. Acho que agora já posso até ganhar um passaporte turco&#8221;, brincou um radiante Massa.</p>
<p>&#8220;Foi uma corrida muito difícil, em que estive no limite do começo ao fim, já que a McLaren se mostrou bastante forte. Mas mesmo assim foi demais, a gente fez tudo certinho&#8221;, falou.</p>
<p>Tão certinho que ontem ele conseguiu igualar uma marca de seu ex-companheiro de Ferrari e mentor, Michael Schumacher. O heptacampeão havia sido o último piloto a ganhar um mesmo GP por três ou mais anos seguidos &#8211;venceu em Indianápolis de 2003 a 2006.</p>
<p>O triunfo também coroou a recuperação meteórica de Massa nas últimas três provas.</p>
<p>Questionado após não completar as duas primeiras etapas do campeonato &#8211;a imprensa italiana chegou a dizer que perderia sua vaga para o Sebastian Vettel em 2009&#8211;, venceu duas vezes (Bahrein e Turquia) e foi o segundo em Barcelona. Com isso, é o piloto com melhor desempenho neste período.</p>
<p>&#8220;O resultado foi sensacional para mim, não só porque ganhei pontos importantes, mas também porque mostrei que posso ser competitivo em qualquer lugar&#8221;, disse o piloto, que comemorou muito no pódio, sempre com três dedos erguidos pelas três vitórias na Turquia, e foi observado de perto por familiares: o pai, Luiz Antônio, a mãe, Ana, a mulher, Rafaella, e a irmã, Fernanda.</p>
<p>Empolgado, cantou trechos do hino italiano para delírio dos membros da Ferrari que vibravam a cada gesto de seu piloto. No momento de receber o troféu, ainda ganhou um coro especial deles para dar seu tradicional pulo do alto do pódio.</p>
<p>&#8220;Bom, estou lá. Estou na briga&#8221;, comemorou o ferrarista. &#8220;Claro que o campeonato está muito apertado, mas estou muito feliz por ter reduzido um pouco a diferença para o Kimi [era de 11 pontos] e ter empatado com o Lewis&#8221;, declarou.</p>
<p>&#8220;Agora é me concentrar nas próximas corridas, porque nem sempre é possível vencer. O importante é marcar pontos, e não importa se você chega em primeiro, terceiro ou quinto lugar. E aí nas últimas três etapas vamos ver quem tem mais chances de ser campeão.&#8221;</p>

<p>This is far better: Gran Turismo 5 will feature the Top Gear track! Now you can pretend to be the Stig and take on the Follow Through, Chicago, Hammerhead and Gambond. No news on whether the Suzuki Liana or the Chevrolet Lacetti will be included in the game.</p>
<p>And that&#8217;s not it&#8211; GT TV will feature downloadable Top Gear clips along with clips from other great automotive programs and events such as the D1 Grand Prix, Super GT and Best Motoring.</p>
