Edingburgh, Scotland.

Edinburgh Castle is an ancient stronghold which dominates the sky-line of the city of Edinburgh from its position atop Castle Rock. It is Scotland’s second-most-visited tourist attraction. Human habitation of the site is dated back as far as the 9th century BC. As it stands today though, few of the castle’s structures pre-date the Lang Siege of the 16th century, with the notable exception of St Margaret’s Chapel, the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, which dates from the early 12th century.

Princes Street Gardens is a public park in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. The Gardens were created in the 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch and the creation of the New Town. The Nor Loch was a large loch in the centre of the city. It was heavily polluted from centuries of sewage draining downhill from the Old Town. In the 1840s the railway was built in the valley, and Waverley Station opened in its present form in 1854.

The Gardens are a popular meeting place in Edinburgh, and play host to regular concerts at the Ross Bandstand, particularly at the city’s Hogmanay celebrations.

Sunrise in Makuhari, Japan, right along the Tokyo bay. Again, much better than the other convention center towns like Las Vegas or Orlando.

Unlike Orlando’s convention center, the food here doesn’t suck, but I’m not quite sure about this ‘sarad’.

A shabu-shabu restaurant in the area had a neato shoe locker for the patron’s footwear. The keys were made from rectangular wooden blocks. My Australian Blundstones barely fit inside. Good thing I didn’t bring my Justin Ropers.

A tech journalist I have been seeing year after year is still wielding his dual Nikon D70 and D100 bodies. These are ancient in the digital camera world but the image quality are constant reminder of what made these machines great in the first place.

The D70, my first Nikon body, doesn’t jump through hoops, trigger multiple flash groups and make me coffee like my D90 does, but darned if some of my favorite photos didn’t come out of that thing.

I thought I’d upload some more infrared shots from London. The two shots below of the London Eye were taken with a Infrared converted Nikon D70 on a walkabout with Robert Carr (www.flickr.com/photos/14603170@N00) who was also kind enough to pass some of his photoshop secrets on – thank you!!

The skies were quite threatening but the light was really good when we got to the Eye! I’m just really glad we didn’t get rained on the entire morning!! These Infrared cameras still amaze me with their ability to pick up tones, contrasts and textures especially in the skies & clouds.

The shot of Big Ben below was taken with a Sony DSC-F717 (with a Hoya R72 & ND8 filters). It was completely different to process as the lighting was all wrong (in that the skies were bright and the trees etc were dark), but in the end I’m quite pleased with the result!!

Umlabeln war also damals schon hipp.

Zeit für was neues. Wir schreiben mittlerweile das Jahr 1995. Eine neue Kamera muss her.

AGFA weg und Olympus her.

Was war passiert? Die Lust verloren? Stress? Wenig Zeit? Kreativlosigkeit? Andere Interessen?

“Da ist doch was falsch!”

Life has been a bit flat out recently so many apologises for lack of uploads!! I spent a few days in London last month and went for a walk with my two trusted Infrared Cameras!! The clouds were incredible and really moody, kind of like Harry Potter clouds!!

From the Bridge

This shot was taken with a converted Nikon D70 and then converted to Black & White in CS4. And the shot of the London Eye below was taken with a Sony DSC-F717 (with Hoya R72 & ND8 filters) and processed in the same way as the shot above!

Through the Trees

Got to say a big thank you to Rob for being my walking buddy!!! And incredibly we weren’t stopped by any police to check our camera equipment etc!!!

Now that things have calmed down a bit I will be doing more processing and therefore updating this blog!!

Early mornings are a great time to take photos of the tulip fields outside of Mt. Vernon, Washington. Not too many crowds are around yet and the lighting is wonderful. Taken with a Nikon D70 and 18-70mm lens on a tripod.

So, apparently the wedding pictures I took weren’t too horrible because my friends presented me with a very unexpected thank you gift in the form of the most awesome Lensbaby 2.0 (maybe they’re just really nice, awesome people). I have had it for less than a week & have yet to dedicate sufficient time to fooling around with it but preliminary results are extraordinary. The only downfall is that I cannot just shoot while driving unless the subject is about two feet away. Here are some fun early pictures.

Below is Anthony, from Binky Bianca. He is half of the aforementioned couple. For this shot, I was borrowing a color splash flash that I intend to add to my repertoire as soon as I am done writing this. For the record, Binky Bianca is one helluvan amazing band. I have had their song, “Absolute” stuck in my head for months now.

Snowball 37 shared Saturday’s bill with Binky Bianca.

For more on Lensbaby, Binky Bianca, Binky (whose married to Anthony & thus responsible for making Lensbaby a part of my life), and all other cool artsy things, please visit mimeographic.com. I seriously don’t know where this girl finds the time… I still haven’t posted all my photos from SXSW nor have I really begun the documentary editing process.
