Originally there should have been 100 tons of clay showing huge clay cube. But what happened? It collapsed, all this huge clay cube. Then somebody got brilliant idea. Let’s citizen of Helsinki (Finland) make their own art from that clay. That was nice idea, because about 1300 persons made their own art and guess if it was a great success. / Originalmente la idea era hacer de 100 toneladas un inmensa cubo de arcilla. ¿Pero que sucedió? Se derrumbó el cubo de arcil. Entonces alguien recibió una idea brillante. Se permita que ciudadanos de Helsinki (Finlandia) hagan su propia arte de arcilla. Una idea genial. Aproximadamente 1300 personas hizieron su propia arte y eso fue un gran triunfo. / Au début il aurait dû avoir 100 tonnes de d’argile pour faire une un énorme bloc cube d’argile. Mais qu’est-il arrivé ? Il s’est effondré, tout ce énorme cube d’argile. Alors quelqu’un a obtenu une idée génial.Laissez les citoyens de Helsinki (Finlande) faire leur propre art de l’argile. Sometimes you just have to smile at the small things in life that tickle you… admist the oblique and harrowing times that small slice of light that is offered to you. Im thankful for the people I happen to chance upon who manage this. Producing proper belly-tingling chuckles, sometimes even without the slightest intention of being funny. And in my less generous moments, that ability to be dense that manages to momentarily startle you, and you’re aware you’re treading a fine line between laughing with them…. and well, you fill in the rest.

I was speaking to a good friend yesterday, bemoaning the joys of the male species and one particular specimen, questioning what on earth we had in common, to which she looked at me deadpan and without missing a beat replied: “Well, you are both human”… and for this, I have to applaud her.

The ability to simplify the most complex and puzzling down to its more organic matter… little wonder that she’s a scientist perhaps. More relevant and impressive though, was the fact that she managed to interrupt my slightly-over-dramatic-rantings (yes, occasionally they do exist and utterances get delivered in a less than an eloquent repose, who’d have thought?!) and stop me in my tracks for a good minute. I hope everyone has someone in their daily lives that manages to bring a little bit of asininence and undiluted daftness to their preceedings.

Because sometimes life can just get just a little bit too serious and you get just that little bit too focused and fraught in spinning plates and juggling, you feel like you might forget the ‘enjoyment’ bit that should be centre field. And in those times I wish I had a pocketfull of that mirth to help keep me in the right direction and break it down to what it should all be about.

And in the words of Winnie the Pooh…

“It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like “What about lunch?””

Snickers Ice Cream Bars may be the most delicious dessert on the planet.

I’ve had a lot of great desserts. Some mind-boggling tiramisu in Italy and creme brule in Paris. Apple pie fresh from the oven, its apples fresh from a harvest. An incredible Quebecois taffy-like concoction that I can’t even begin to describe and baklava so good I wouldn’t mind if I died gorging myself with a trough of it. None of them, however, can match Snickers Ice Cream Bars — and they are all way more expensive. It is, in short, the perfect candy bar and that’s the only title that can do it justice.

I have, in fact, eaten so many of them that I’ve worked out a procedure to maximize its deliciousness. When you first take it out of the freezer (the freezer at my parents’ house is set at 8 so if yours is set higher or lower you may have to adjust accordingly), it’s too cold and everything is frozen hard. You can bite into it and it’s tasty, yeah, but it’s awkward to have to work to chew chunks of frozen cream in your mouth and you’re doing yourself a huge disfavor by denying yourself its full glory.

No, instead of diving in like a lobotomized asylum patient, what you do is you just place it on your desk or table and—here’s the hardest part—leave it alone for 1-1.5 minutes. This allows the hardened cream and caramel to thaw just enough so that it is brimming with rich, soft creaminess without losing the satisfying snap of the crisp chocolate coating when you bite into it. After about a minute of aching anticipation, open it up and sink your teeth into the most delicious candy bar dessert yet conceived by man.

Simply amazing.

(For those with shrewd, business oriented minds: no, this is not some clever scheme by Mars to seize the social media revolution and monopolize the candy bar industry. It is just this good.)

The bad part is that you can buy them in 24 packs at Costco and this makes it very easy to develop an addiction to them. Today, I must regulate my intake of these wonderful treasure bars to one a day because I have gained 5 pounds as I became more and more enamored with them despite regular exercise. In fact, I’m craving one as I type and it’s taking tremendous willpower to keep my legs from walking habitually toward the freezer, which I’ve come to see as a divining cabinet of ecstasy.

Verdict: Proceed with caution. It is a must try, but don’t buy 24 packs every week from Costco and expect to live past 45.

Addendum: In other news, I am back on schedule, now with 20% more product placement!

Uno de los principios basicos en cualquier comunicacion es que para que una comunicacion sea posible es necesario que haya un emisor y un receptor,cuando el emisor no lo hace bien normalmente la comunicación no funciona bien, es dificil o imposible, bien, cuando estaba en el segundo hospital tenian un moderno sistema para llamar a la enfermera, por interfono, es realmente comodo para alguien que no habia perdido la voz temporalmente ya que pides lo que necesitas y te intentan ayudar en un mismo viaje.

Entre que no me podia levantar de la silla en la que estaba para acercarme al interfono y lo bajito y mal que hablaba en esa epoca…

Para quien le interese, ahora hablo con el nivel Javier Bardem, Amenabar… mal pero no pero pasable.

Well I came across some awesomely spectacular news last night.

DJ Hero, the game I didn’t think would turn out that good, looks very good indeed now.

I guess that is partly due to the fact that you can play AS DAFT PUNK!

The Robots themselves created 11 unique mixes for the game and, as previously stated, are in-game characters.

This is exciting stuff for Daft Punk fans everywhere.

Dear friends, it is a deeply worried Foggy that types at you this evening.

It has come to my attention that a flamewar of atrocious, vicious cruelty is musically erupting in our midst.

I have no idea who this woman is, where she may be, if she’s alive, dead or merely undecided, if she’s living in a cardboard box on the streets or in a exponentially more expensive blingified concrete box in Dubai. I’ve no clue as to what the hell she’s supposed to have done, but nothing could conceivably justify what threatens to be a sustained and coordinated assault. It’s simply uncivilised. If she lives, and if she’s plugged into the musical zeitgeist, I dare say she’s hurting bad. It must seem to her that she’s living in a cruel, uncaring, hostile world. This has me deeply concerned. I feel some steps must be taken to push back this tidal bore of bile. And perhaps rescue this poor soul from this aggression.

This woman is getting more beef than Biggie Smalls. And I’m not talking about steak here – though god knows Biggie was called Biggie for a reason. Ah yes, we’ve seen this before, the whole East Coast/West Coast Rap feud – which bore all the hallmarks of a goldrush-era hillbilly clanwar but with less than half the rationality. But with considerably more G-Funk. Musicians have been gunned down in their dozens for insults one tenth of a percent as blatent as Lorraine gets every hour, of every day, for years as far as I can determine. I simply have not been able to fully chart how far down the rabbit hole goes. I hazard a guess that we’re looking at a great deal of potential subsidence damage to properties above. It’s bloody deep, that’s the gist of what I’m trying to get across here. Okay. Placing things in perspective, Mr. Smalls was in no way a spring chicken, the man was more than capable of looking after himself. In what has to be admitted is a music scene with a Neanderthal attitude towards homosexuality, Biggie had the courage, the confidence and the dignity to broadcast his gayness loud and proud by covering the gayest single ever released in human history, a tune where the camp is turned all the way up to 11. Not 10, all the way up to 11. Diana Ross. I’m coming out. It must have taken massive courage, balls of steel no less, to jam along to that while Ross frequently interjected with the self-explanatory exclamation ‘I’m comin!’ followed by a loaded pause before concluding with: ‘out.’ Cheeky. Very cheeky. Biggie Smalls was a player of the game. He brooked no compromise, dodged no meal, no matter how big. He lay into musical rivals. A bit. We’re talking flappy hands, pulling hair and scratching here, bitching. Handbags! Hardly a bloodfeud. Nowhere was anybody – as I understand the affair – ever spending thirty years of their life preparing to avenge the slaying of their dear Papa. Nope. No Diego Montoya to be seen anywhere.

Biggie Smalls is incontrovertably, entirely and completely dead as a rock. They gunned him down. So read on.

I’m in the midst of compiling a dossier. This dossier will need no hint of sexing up. I do not anticipate any problems with the BBC on this – I will not, I feel, be forced to dismiss the Director General over this matter. I will not be bitch-slapping the Corporation silly up and down the law courts. I’m not a deceitful, cowardly, manipulative warmongering bully. I’m not Her Majesty’s Government. This one’s going straight down the middle.

While my dander’s still up, I’ll lay before you a couple of typical examples of what my vigil has established. The list is running in the thousands already. I merely wish to expose the tip of the iceberg, if you’ll indulge me.

Item A. A notorious example. I Can’t Stand Lorraine, originally written and performed by one Anne Peebles in 1973. Subsequently covered and re-released no less than seven times over the subsequent decade, ranging from Humble Pie in’74 and in a disco mix from Eruption in 1978, reaching number 18 in the US charts at that time, to Tina Turner in 1984 in her Private Dancer LP, and then in 1985 as a single, adding insult to insult in a frankly reprehensible double-deuce. Even Seal managed to swing his boot in as part of his 2008 album Soul. Though one gathers nobody noticed at the time. Credit is due to Missy Elliot, who used a sample of the song as the chorus to her 1997 debut single Lorraine (Supa-dupa-fly), getting one back in for the girls. Sadly, it was no less of a steaming pile of shit despite this.

Hopefully you’re all beginning to grasp the scale of this thing.

Item B. One of the worst repeat offenders of them all, with the original release followed by an improbable twenty-five cover versions from performers ranging through Barney the Dinosaur, Hugh, Pugh, Barney and the rest of that rabble, Tom, Dick, Harry, Rod, Jane, Freddy, Des O’Connor, Winston Churchill, Lady Diana, uncle Tom Cobley, one man and his dog, John Doe, Lord Lucan, Admiral Horatio Nelson, Freddy Krueger, the Queen Alien, Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa of Calcutta, Sean Connery, Micheal frickin Bolton, Billy Crystal, Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin and the entire original cast of Fame! This song featured in the soundtrack to Cool Runnings. It is more widespread than monotheism. More ubiquitous than broadcaster of the apocalypse Piers Morgan.

It is, of course, the 1972 Johnny Nash release I Can See Clearly Now (Lorraine Has Gone), a thorough hatchet job of a song with well-known lyrics overtly suggesting that Lorraine was in some way a navigation hazard, and even more fancifully actually occluded the sun. For shame, Johnny Nash! Given this exposure, I’m stunned that nobody has been struck by this before. Fear not though, let’s push on.

Small crumbs of comfort are scattered about. Billy Myers late ’90s abortion Kiss Lorraine was substancially more affectionate towards the mystery lady. Sadly enough this was more than offset by an unfortunate drawback. It was piss-poor. Garbage. No cover versions anywhere in sight, and nor will there be. More significantly, this track is not played six times every hour by Heart FM, a radio station that stretches credulity to breaking point with it’s hysterical positioning statment ‘more music variety’. This is only true if by which they mean more musical variety than looping the same song over and over and over and over again, for ever. They’ve come close to this, but not quite. Nothing I have yet seen rivals the Daily Express in its claim to be ‘THE GREATEST NEWSPAPER IN THE WORLD’. That’s grabbing journalistic integrity by the hojos and yanking them clean off.

Back on topic.

The real tradegy here is that once there was a time when things were so much better. Clearly this was a radically happier stage in Lorraine’s life, though it does give some clue to her age. Gene Kelly and the incomparably chirpy Singin’ in Lorraine. Awww! How sweet. Gene said it himself – ‘what a wonderful feeling’. Rather full-on for those times as well. Still, in some ways quite odd. I’d be put off if my sexual partner started serenading me a capalla-style in the middle of the act. I’d err on the side of caution and chuck on a Marvin Gaye mix. Or as an off-the-wall alternative, perhaps Provokiev. Whatever floats her boat is fine by me. Still, what consenting adults do to each other behind closed doors is none of my business. Unless there’s a filmcrew there as well. Then I’m more than interested.

…Moving on.

Yup, my favorite house duo from the UK is back with a new CD. Got it on Friday and have been listening ever since. Scars is a perfect example of why I like their music so much: variety and quality of production. This CD has stylings of all different kinds of music: from Hip Hop, Electronica, DnB, Ethereal, World Music, etc., etc., not to mention, the traditional Basement Jaxx take on House music. Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton are two of best producers of music ever- they focus on using new sounds, layering throughout the songs and creating tracks that you can feel. Two definite stand outs from Scars that will get play in clubs and probably remixed by DJs: Raindrops and Feelings Gone. Raindrops is probably one of the best videos I have seen in a long time- beware some nipple action goes on.

This CD fights for the best Jaxx album, but I still LOVE Rooty. I continue to listen to it all the time, even though it came out like 8 or 9 years ago.

P.S. I love the CD and Single Covers- this one is from the single “Feelings Gone“ featuring an awesomely punchy pachyderm with its feather headdress and Daft Punk-esque eye shield.

What does a fussball verband who has no concept for dealing with potential violence do when faced with a potentially problematic Landesliga match.

They schedule the game for a Wednesday at 2pm

Genius.
As we’ve said before and will no doubt be forced to repeat on a regular basis: wierd kick-off times don’t solve problems they simply give the impression of a problem solved.
And so it came to pass that whereas on Saturday over 10,000 fans watched a pretty poor Regionalliga match in Halle, four days later some 80 souls made their way to the Heinrich Germer Stadion to watch a much, much better Landesliga encounter.

One of the true joys of football in the former DDR is the way the fans are genuinely interested in all the teams who play in their club.
Because it is their club.
And we have spent many a relaxed Saturday/Sunday afternoon watching a second, third or even A-jugend match.

We do however understand that the authorities are keen to schedule such “high risk” matches when, ideally, the first team from the visiting club are playing. And up to a point we can accept that.

But the decision here from SAFV is simply wrong.

And it is wrong because it denies fans the chance to watch a match, is wrong because it risks severing the link between young fans and the youth teams and is wrong because it supports the impression that violence at the match was inevitable.

Had the SAFV done what they should have done and scheduled the match when Halle I were in Hamburg there would have been five times the crowd and exactly the same level of violence: none.

And it is unacceptable that the SAFV did not do such.

And the reasoning for the decision can in no way be considered a valid explanation. The SAFV must be in a position to soberly and accurately predict the risk from a given match. And when they are not then they need to explain why not and take steps to reach such a situation.

Equally unacceptable is the comment from Staffelleiter Ekkehard Kleye in the Magdeburger Volksstimme “Wir haben kein Augenmerk auf Zuschauer gelegt. Hätten sich beide Vereine auf 11 Uhr Uhr “>geeinigt, würde um 11 Uhr gespielt.”

Such a comment is fully unacceptable and should never pass the lips of a man responsible for furthering the game in Sachsen Anhalt. It should be his aim to ensure the maximum public audience for each and every match, yes while keeping an eye on questions such as security, but also fairness.

If Herr Kleyen is simply going to panic every time he see the letters HFC and FCM next to each other on his fixture list then it’s time he went into retirement.

Ridiculous.

One cannot advance the level of football played in the former DDR if the associations don’t help the clubs.

It is that simple.

And as we said the match itself was much better than that which we endured on Saturday. But the match here was of secondary importance.

Sadly.
