Nas and Damien Marley are teaming up again, but this time to collaborate and release an entire album. The last time they collaborated for a major release was when they released the song “Road to Zion”, which appeared on Marley’s second album, “Welcome to Jamrock”. The song and album went on to become a large success, which I also expect with this album as well, but this album is larger than that. Nas and Marley have set out to create ground breaking music, and from what I have heard thus far- the music is unlike anything that I have ever heard. Still no songs from the album, but now we have the track list and production credits. This album looks like it is going to be great. I knew Damien was taking care of the majority of the production but I did not know 9th Wonder was going to put in some work as well as some others. I guess we will finally get to hear Nas on a 9th Wonder track, besides God’s Stepson. K’naan, Joss Stone, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, and even Stevie Wonder will be making it on the album as features. Cannot wait to hear just one song from here, let alone the whole album. No word yet on release date.

Nas and Damien talk with DJ Semtex about their upcoming collaboration album Distant Relatives. It’s a nice interview even though the video isn’t the best for the Nas part, since it was shot on his tour bus. The video will probably get you hyped for the album even more. K’naan gets some appreciation for both artist, and he will be making an appearance on the album as well. Nas talk about his upcoming projects and confirms he will not be on Jay-Z’s Empire State of Mind which is too bad, because it would have been an epic track. I have no idea when the album is dropping, but it better be soon.

In the world of Hip-Hop, and Reggae an album that can truly be called a classic is a dime a dozen reserved for the pillars of the industry that accomplish something that is so profound, and so different that they both sell millions, and change the way music is made from then on.

Distant Relatives is shaping up to be one of these golden albums that doesn’t quite fit into the Hip-Hop or Reggae categories in its attempt to move away from the expected to release something that will truly move the people to action.
