Dana White was a recent guest on MMA Junkie Radio, and the topic of “Dan Henderson” came up. Dana White proceed to say that Tito Ortiz may have played a role with his contract negotations.

Dana White is quoted as saying the following:

“The [expletive] that Dan came in and said in my office and what he wants, it’s unrealistic, and he knows it,” White said. “And it’s basically based off of, ‘I heard this guy is making this, and I heard this guy made (this much).’ Basically, what everybody gets pissed off about is Tito. ‘Oh, I heard Tito is making all this money, and Tito is this and that.’ And it’s because Tito likes to go out there and stay stuff like that or somebody in his camp did.

“That’s how [expletive] gets started. “

Francisco Rodriguez was born in Mexico, but grew up in Chicago where he became a 5 time Golden Glove

Francisco Rodriguez was born in Mexico, but grew up in Chicago where he became a 5 time Golden Gloves Champion. In 2004, Rodriguez advanced to the U.S. Olympic trials by outpointing opponent Teon Kennedy. Years later the two would once again meet in the ring, but this time as professionals. In the 10th round, Rodriguez was knocked out by Kennedy and never regained consciousness. He was taken to Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia where he was immediately rushed into brain surgery. And although this is another tragic story, this one seems to have somewhat of a happy ending. Rodriguez’s family donated eight of his organs, including one of his kidney’s to his own uncle who has been on the waiting list for several years. Francisco’s Brother went on to say, “My family is desperately grieving the loss of Paco, but there is some comfort knowing that he will save at least eight lives and benefit so many families. “My brother was so strong and healthy. … His heart and lungs were in perfect condition. It would have been a terrible waste not to share his life with others. How could we not help another family?” This adds to a long list of boxers who have died due to blows suffered in the ring. And although it is the risk one takes when entering into such a profession, it is comforting to know that others will benefit from the tragic and premature loss of Francisco Rodriguez. Donations can be made to the Francisco Rodriguez Estate fund account #707331062 at any Chase Bank location.

Source: PWTorch.com & MMAScoops.com
According to a source, WWE executive Shane McMahon is looking to buy a financial interest in the UFC. As noted earlier, Shane McMahon will officially leave his WWE position as VP of Global Media on January 1st, 2010.

McMahon would bring to UFC the marketing know-how and relationships in the marketplace. He would also help UFC in their international expansion.

There was a meeting between Shane McMahon and UFC officials including Dana White several weeks ago. When asked about the meeting, Dana White simply stated “no comment”. We’ll keep you posted as we get more.

Big Wins

Texas Tech defeats Oklahoma 41-13

Taylor Potts led the Red Raiders to a crucial win over the Sooners as he threw for 388 yards and two touchdowns, while completing 35 of 53 passes. They got a solid rushing performance from Batch who finished with 136 yards on 25 carries with two touchdowns. The Red Raiders gained 549 total yards of offense against an above average defense and limited the Sooner’s running game to only 48 total yards on the ground.

Penn State defeats Michigan State 42-14

This was a game where many experts were picking the Spartans to pull off the upset against a Penn State squad said to be overlooking this game. But nothing could be further from the truth, as the Nittany Lions held Michigan State to only 333 yards of total offense and caused two key turnovers. Darryl Clark, often criticized for his lack of passing accuracy, was 19 for 27 with 310 yards passing and 4 touchdowns.

Oregon defeats Arizona 44-41

The Ducks may have needed double overtime to get past Arizona, but they came through on a Masoli 1 yard touchdown run to end the game. Jeremiah Masoli was 26 for 47 with 3 passing touchdowns to go with his 3 rushing td’s as well. 6 total touchdowns for the Oregon quarterback who also had 284 yards passing and 61 yards rushing.

Bigger Losses

Northwestern upsets Wisconsin 33-31

The surging Wildcats added another big win to their resume as they defeated #16 ranked Wisconsin. Northwestern racked up 437 yards of total offense with Mike Kafka leading the way. Kafa was 26 for 40 with 326 yards and 2 touchdown passes, while getting no help from the running game who only could muster 73 total yards. Stephan Demos, Northwestern’s field goal kicker, was also a significant part of their win as he was 4 for 4, including hitting from 45 yards in the first quarter.

Syracuse upsets Rutgers 31-13

Rutgers came into this game as a huge favorite and left getting embarrassed by the Orangemen. Syracuse was winless in Big East play before this game and outgained Rutger by 294 total yards. The Scarlett Knights only gained 130 total yards on offense with Savage throwing for 66 yards and two interceptions.

UFC 106 has come annd gone, and much like any other UFC event, some questions were answered while others were not. In an interview with Steve Cofield, Dana White sheds a little more light on a few of the unanswered questions.

First and foremost, the UFC president talks about the Brock Lesnar health scare, adding tidbits of previously unreleased information about the UFC heavyweight champ and his illness. White talks about other things as well, like the on and off friendship of Tito Ortiz and himself, along with other entertaining banter.

The interview with White does contain profanity, including the customary F-bombs that Dana is infamous for, so you have been warned. If you are offended easily, this is not the video for you.

If you do not know who Steve Cofield is, you should. He writes the Cagewriter sports blog for Yahoo! sports. His work is some of, if not the best out there.

Strikeforce:Challangers IV

Strikeforce:Fedor v Rogers

WEC 44: Brown v Aldo

UFC 105 : Couture v Vera

Strikeforce Challangers V

UFC 106 : Ortiz v Griffin II

Best Show of the Month : WEC 44: Brown v Aldo

Like seemingly every WEC show I have seen there wasn’t a boring fight on the main card. Jose Aldo proved to be one of the top featherweights in the world, with his complete domination of Mike Thomas Brown . Manny Gamburyan defeated Lenard Garcia in impressive fashion despite a rather large size disadvantage. Karen(Car-rin) Darabedyan made his WEC debut with a split decision victory over Razor Rob McCllugh . Shane Roller came from behinde to get a submission win over David Castillo .

WEC continues to impress me with there shows and fights. I can only hope VERSUS issue with the cable and satalite companies is fixed or Zuffa somehow moves them to Spike or another more accesable channle in the future.

Promotion of the Month: Strikeforce

With two Challanger shows and a debut on CBS this has been one of the busier months for the promotion. They had a great debut with a average of 4.04 million viewers im sure CBS will be back for seconds they did it for Elite XC so they better come back for more Strikeforce.

Next Strikeforce has Strikeforce:Evolution with fighters like Jacare , King Mo , Cung Le , and the Main Event of Josh Thompsan v Gilber MElendez to unifiy there lightweight titles. This card will feature a look at Strikeforces present and future stars. The only proble WEC 45 is on the same day which to watch?

Fight of the Month:Tie

Fedor v Rogers @ Strikeforce :Fedor v Rogers & Jose Aldo v Mike Thomas Brown @WEC 44 Brown v Aldo

While Jose Aldos win over Brown was done in a very impressive fashion , both fights served as a comeing out of sorts for eachother. Fedor got his biggest North American audience with his fight on CBS with a average f 4.04 million viewrs and a peack of just under 5.5 million.

Brett Rogers gave Fedor his toughest fight since his PRIDE days. Fedor came back though early in the second and KO Rogers . With this newfound American exposure the next CBS Strikeforce show should do better raitings.

Jose Aldo came out as one of the best Featherweight fighters in the world with his domination of Brown. The scary thing though isnt his insane speed and striking . Its that he is a BJJ black belt and we have yet to see him off his back, somethig I was hopeing for in the Brown fight.

Worst Fight of the Month: Josh Koshcheck v Anthony Johnson UFC 106

This fight just had way to much drama and not enough fighting. With the eye pokeing and the ref not followign the rules right. This fight had m just completly out of the fine grove i was in from the previous fights. Koshcheck after eating a knee which was thought to the head but after replays was really the arm rested in the corner. He then poked Johnson in the eye. Koshcheck eventually went back to his roots and brought out some wrestling. After takeing Koshcheck down he was able to secure a RNC in the last seconds of the fight.

Runner up : Randy Couture v Brandon Vera

Randy executed a winnign gameplan im sure everyone expected . Im all for good plans but this was not exciteing at all .

WTF moment of the Month: MMA Judgeing

In less then a week we have seen two fights where a judge gave it 30-27 one way and another saw it 30-27 in the other fighters favor. Yes they have different prespective but the two fights in question Rob McCulloghn v Karaen Darabedyan and Ortix v Griffin were clearly 29-28 form my perspective. Ive already written a nice peace on the state of judgeing and what I would like changed go read it for more information on the matter.

Worst Promotion : Sengoku

With a loss of a major sponsor and apparent venue and ticket sale problems things are not looking good for Sengoku. This brings up a very likely of a merger or rather absorbtion by fellow jappanesse promotion DREAM. This isnt all bad, for the fighters they will get a better stage to fight on, for DREAM they get to pad there roster with more talen allowing for hopefully more shows.

Now who is ready for Decemner? we have WEC 45 , Strikeforce:Evolution and UFC 107 to look forward to.

So I got the cable hooked up in my new place just in time to see Tony Romo lead the Cowboys to the game winning drive against the Washington Redskins. That made my day. What didn’t make my day was trying to view the fights on Saturday renegade style due to a series of unfortunate circumstances. Anyways I was right on some accounts and wrong on others for UFC 106 but let’s get into it now.

UFC 106 Key Points
The welterweight title picture is a mess. Since the UFC probably expected Koshchek to lose to Johnson (as did I) they had no reason to think that Hardy would be anything other than the number one contender come the end of Saturday night. However Koshchek threw a monkey wrench into those plans simply by winning impressively over Johnson. If Johnson would’ve won this would’ve been an easy set-up for a fight with Jon Fitch with the winner facing the winner of GSP/Hardy. This was not the case. It would’ve been easier to say that Johnson is not ready for a title shot but it’s difficult to say with his latest track record that Koshchek doesn’t deserve a shot at the belt. Now as I said last week we have several number one contenders for the welterweight division. We’ve got Jon Fitch, Josh Koshchek, and Dan Hardy, in the order that I just mentioned them.

So where do we go from here? I think at this point teammates have to start fighting each other they can’t all be good and not expect to meet each other at some point. That’s a jaded way of thinking. If you want to be the best and you don’t want to fight your friends then stay out of their weight class. That being said Fitch/ Koshchek on the GSP/Hardy card with the winners facing each other and if people stay injury free this should work itself out. If Koshchek doesn’t want to fight Fitch then give the deal to Johnson then we’ve got Johnson/Fitch on the GSP/Hardy card and once again this works itself.

As for the rest of UFC 106…..

Noigueira just send a serious message to the UFC Light-Heavyweight division while at the same time dismantling one who was supposed to be a top contender in the division. I smell Vera/Nogueira coming up in the near future.

Sotiropoulos will probably be fighting a real contender his next time in the octagon just to see if his streak of 4-0 inside the UFC has been a fluke. If he wins again the buzz will be loud and fast for him to get a top contender and maybe even title shot buzz. However he’s in a very stacked division and this could work to his disadvantage.

Folks you heard it here first, Kendall Grove is about to be on a winning streak in the middleweight division. This was the boost he needed over a quality opponent to put together a string of wins to make his title run. Stay tuned.

Ben Saunders should just go ahead and ask for a rematch with Mike Swick. Beating Davis doesn’t do much for him until he beats a top contender, not a gatekeeper like Davis. (I love Marcus Davis don’t get me wrong but he is turning out to be a gatekeeper)

Sadollah fans can breathe a sigh of relief he has an impressive win under his belt now. We’ll see now if he can build on this win. If I were him I’d ask for another fight to stay active.

Finally we’ll end with Mr. Ortiz and Mr. Griffin. Personally I think this fight does nothing for either of them. A loss did nothing for Tito and a split decision win over Ortiz does nothing to convince me that Forrest is back. If I’m Griffin I’m already looking for another fight against a legit opponent in order to get myself back on track. Think about it, a year ago this time Griffin was the light heavyweight champion it’s time to get back to those days.

Alright so besides UFC 106 it’s been a pretty slow week in MMA, much love to Brock Lesnar hope you get better man.

Holler.

Story by Anthony Springer Jr

“I’ll be back.”

Those three words escaped the lips of “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz countless times at the UFC 106 post fight press conference.

Despite dropping a razor-thin split decision to Forrest Griffin, Ortiz was optimistic about his future in the UFC. The hope for the future did not drown out the agony of defeat considering Ortiz feels he won the fight.

“I gave my heart and soul out there and I come out and I fight,” a visibly disappointed Ortiz said. “I don’t look for excuses or anything. I thought I won the fight two rounds to one.”

“I’ll be back…I’m sorry I let my family down, I came in and fought my heart out,” Ortiz added, fighting back tears.

Emotional statements aside, Ortiz was right immediately back at work doing what he does best: selling fights. With a forthcoming rubber match with Forrest Griffin inevitable, Ortiz went to work advocating for himself and Griffin to be coaches on the eleventh season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Griffin and Ortiz have personalities made for television; however, White remained non-committal about the pairings for the next season of the hit reality show.

“I don’t know. I gotta look at it,” White said when asked.

Ortiz, on the other hand, is already convinced. “It’d be awesome,” he said of an Ortiz vs. Griffin season of TUF. “We’d break records with that one.”

Griffin is on the same page as Ortiz—as long as White agrees to the pairing.

“I think me and Tito have the same strategy, which I think I kind of got on board before Tito,” Griffin said jokingly. “It’s do what Dana says. That’s what’s best for you. That’s pretty much been the strategy for the last five years of my life, and it’s worked out pretty good. So I’ll keep doing that.”

The eleventh season of TUF will air on Spike in the spring of 2010. Obviously, no coaching decisions were made last night.

So i was only able to catch the last hour of UFC 106 due to a family engagement i had to go to. I did though get to the pub in time to catch a replay of Grove v Rosholt and then Koshcheck v Johnson and then the main event Ortiz Griffin II. So I’m not going to do my awards but i will comment on the ones UFC gave out and the ones that I saw since the PPV aired.

Awards

Fight of the Night: Koshcheck Johnson

Submission of the Night: Koshcheck

Knockout of the Night : Lil Nog

Cant really complain thought Groves Triangle choke was better.

Koshcheck v Johnson

Man WTF was with the illegal strikes and eye possible eye poking during this fight? First Koshcheck eats a knee and understandably is given time to recover. Except he was given 5 minutes when that’s only aloud for groin shots, the ref DID NOT KNOW THE RULES HERE PEOPLE!! Then Johnson got poked in the eye man this was just one constant huh whaa for me. Then after the fighting actually started we got to see what would happen if Johnson actually fought GSP. Koshcheck stood and banged with him but ended up taking him down to the ground. Johnson looked bad on the ground not complete fish out of water but still did not look good. Koshcheck was able to get a Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd.

I expected Koshcheck to win . Now hopefully people will get off the AJ bandwagon he’s just a big WW who looks like he fights at Middle weight (not that GSP doesn’t either) . Koshcheck got on the mic though and called out Dan Hardy saying he didn’t beat anybody….o wait he beat you teammate Mike Swick last week good job Kos good job. I don’t want to see Hardy Koshcheck to fight GSP. Koshcheck already lost to GSP let someone else get to fight him. If he beats another top guy then give him the winner of GSP Hardy.

Ortiz Griffin II

Ok this is not related to the fight but man how can you not love Bruce Buffer. I love his introductions there just awesome.

To the fight though . Ortiz looked SLOW in the fist speed department. Now maybe its ring rust but he just looked like he was sooo slow. He got clearly out struck on the feet . Tito was able to get him down and do a little Ground and Pound but if he wasn’t able to get him down Tito would of been super screwed.

Now the Official Decision was 30-27 Ortiz 30-27 Griffin 28-27 Griffin . Forrest wins via split decision. Ok how the hell can a judge give it to Ortiz and another to Griffin. Now it is slightly subjective but WTF. This and the WEC fight Rob McCullough v Karen D made me just go what!?!?!

The judging system needs to be addressed . That’s what I’m writing about next to

“The Heat” is no more, or not in UFC anyways. Karo Parisyan pulled out of his scheduled

“The Heat” is no more, or not in UFC anyways. Karo Parisyan pulled out of his scheduled fight against Dustin Hazelett at UFC 106, one day before weigh-ins. Dana White claims Karo had a “laundry list” of excuses. It’s not the first time Parisyan has pulled out of a scheduled UFC fight on short notice, he did it at UFC 88 on the day of weigh-ins. According to Dana White on his Twitter account, Karo is done with UFC.

Karo Parisyan has fucked over the UFC, the fans and his opponent again!!! He will not be fighting saturday or ever again in the UFC!! Pulled out of the fight the day before weigh ins again with a laundry list of excuses!!! Let the press ask karo why! Let him explain.

He went on to add that Dustin will be paid his full purse for the show and the win. That’s good news.

As for Kano never fighting in the UFC again, perfectly fine with me. Never been a fan of The Heat!
