Troszkę się ostatnio wokół mnie dzieje. A może nie tyle wokół mnie co w moim małym prywatnym świecie, który postanowiłem upubliczniać tutaj na tym blogu. Pewne plany legły w gruzach, pewne sprawy nabrały troszkę innego obrotu co wymusi na mnie zmianę dynamiki podejmowanych działań, są też takie kwestie, które na całe szczęści rozwijają się całkiem sprawnie, bo w przeciwnym wypadku musiałbym chyba wpaść w depresję – przynajmniej tak dla zasady.
Pierwszą kwestią, która dopiero co mnie dotknęła jest wyjazd mojego wspólnika w interesach na kilka miesięcy na obczyznę, a dokładniej do Landów Niemieckich co daję mi dwie możliwości:
Albo całe przedsięwzięcie, które rozkręcamy całkiem poważnie od kilku miesięcy mocno zwolni swoje tempo rozwoju, albo skłoni mnie to do wzięcia się do pracy na 150% i nadania pomysłom, które gdzieś tam w mojej głowie mnożą się jak króliki w okresie rui ( ), mocnego rozpędu, aby w chwili, gdy kolega wróci z powrotem na łono ojczyzny mieć już przygotowany solidny grunt do dalszych działań. Druga opcja jest na pewno tą lepszą, ale zobaczymy jak to wyjdzie w praktyce.
Kolejną szalenie dla mnie ważną kwestią – bo mającą znamiona tradycji – jest organizacja tegorocznej zabawy Sylwestrowej, którą od bodajże 7 lat, rok w rok organizuje przy pomocy Kolegów, i która jest najlepszą tego typu imprezą sylwestrową dla ludzi w przedziale 18-25 lat (ach, ta skromność ). I o ile już wiem, że na pewno i w tym roku tradycji uda mi się dochować, o tyle mam problem z Kolegami, którzy mi pomagali. Otóż, jak wspomniałem wcześniej jeden udaje się na obczyznę w celach zarobkowych, z kolei drugi śmiertelnie się na mnie obraził i zapowiedział mi, że żadnego Sylwestra robić ze mną nie będzie (zresztą ten przypadek opisze w którymś z kolejnych wpisów). I chyba w tym roku cały ciężar organizacyjny spadnie na moje barki. Choć jestem przekonany, że jakoś dam sobie radę, i że po raz kolejny goście będą zaskoczeni, że w tej cenie można zrobić taką imprezę.
Ostatnią kwestią, którą pozwolę sobie poruszyć jest inicjatywa, w którą zaangażowałem się całym sercem, duszą i ciałem. Zapewne wielu z Was słyszało o niesamowitej w swojej sile przebicia inicjatywie, która sprawiła, że stadion Śląski w Chorzowie podczas meczu reprezentacji Polski (14.10) świecił pustkami, o akcji, która powoduje lęk w oczach sponsorów kadry i ich kolejne wycofywanie się z promowania swoich produktów, jako sponsorujących drużynę składającą się z polskich piłkarzy. Jeżeli ktoś nadal nie wie o czym mówię, to mam na myśli ruch społeczny o nazwie KONIECPZPN.PL. Jest to przedsięwzięcie, w które zyskało poparcie na dzień dzisiejszy 300tys. internautów, i które zyskało również moje nie tylko poparcie, ale także aktywne działanie w ramach tego tworu. 12 października byłem w Łodzi na Zjeździe Założycielskim stowarzyszenia S.O.S. dla Polskiej Piłki, które inicjatywę koniecpzpn.pl weźmie pod swoje skrzydła, oraz będzie zabiegać o zmianę stanu polskiej piłki. My July post was about my nephew Darek, age 8, realizing his baseball team was depending on him and how he came through for them because:
A) he had the confidence that he could; and
B) it didn’t occur to let someone else take care of it.

How many of us are like Darek? Dependable because we have the skills and we have the desire.

What if you don’t have the skills to fulfill your job requirement?

Don’t hesitate, don’t balk, and don’t wait for someone to notice your shortcomings…go get help. Most people don’t like admitting they need assistance. This makes the first step possibly the hardest…acknowledging the need for guidance. The second step is learning how to ask for help in a way that makes you feel comfortable and remain confident.

There is a really great article about the Top 7 Reasons Women Don’t Ask for Help, written by Wendy Travis, published on June 20, 2008. Even though she wrote this with women in mind the reasons can equally apply to men. Here is her list of why people don’t ask for help:

1. Afraid of Looking Incompetent, Needy
2. Strong Enough to Handle the Situation Solo
3. In Too Deep
4. Controlling Behavior
5. Fearful of Consequences
6. Don’t Know How
7. Keeping the Role of Caretaker

The second step, learning how to ask for the necessary guidance involves taking time to practice what you plan to say. Here are some suggestions for making the process of asking for help easier:

• Go to the person you are the most comfortable approaching
• Find the most qualified person to ask
• Be truthful
• Never place blame
• Use facts, never assumptions
• Accept responsibility if you have made an error

Consider this scenario. A group of accountants had accumulated financial data in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and needed to present the data at a company meeting. None of them had used Excel much as they had been utilizing a proprietary company program. They heard that Excel had graphing capabilities but felt that with their pressing deadline they did not have time to research how to use this feature. It would be faster to ask the administrative assistant to turn the data into colorful charts for their presentation.

The administrative assistant was brand new to the company having only been there a few days. Until this request she had never been asked to create charts. Because her resume indicated a proficiency in computer usage she did not want to admit the lack of knowledge in this particular software feature. She too was facing the same deadline.

Let’s take a minute to identify why/how we know anything in life. The reality is that all knowledge comes from:

1. Someone has taught us because they thought we needed to know
2. We had a need to know so we discovered on our own

Until this task, no one had taught them the graphing feature and none of these people had a need to know the Excel graphing feature so there is zero reason to be ashamed and/or afraid to ask for guidance. A possible way to handle this would be to locate the person in the company with Excel charting knowledge and say something like this: “I understand you know how to create charts in Excel. My situation is I have never needed to create a chart until now and there is a pressing deadline. I would really appreciate your help. Can we connect sometime today so you can show me how to make an Excel chart?”

This is one of many possible real life, workplace scenarios. Put your skills to work and get the information you need to be successful.

Returning to the story about Darek and the baseball game, another reason Darek showed such great leadership that day was his desire to be dependable.

What if you don’t have the desire to be dependable?

That’s pretty simple. Without desire there will be little to zero action. With little to zero action few people (if any) will find you dependable. If no one finds you dependable soon there will be someone in your position who is dependable. The best course of action here is a change in attitude which in turn will create a change in behavior.

Go take control of your dependability…it’s your choice!

There is so much I have learned in life I barely know how to begin this new adventure of blogging. It makes sense to start with my most recent Darek story. I promise there will be many more of these to come; he’s an amazing kid.

Darek is my brother Bryan’s son. He’s witty and charming and in my world the coolest 9 year old boy on the planet.  I know there are many others out there but for me he is a treat. I was just back in Iowa at one of his baseball games, he was pitching and he was so intense and so focused. I’m not sure at age 47 I’m that focused on anything!

So I comment to my brother about his intensity and here’s my brother’s response: “OH, (insert a facial expression of huge eyes and bewilderment) Sheri, he is so serious about this game. He has fun but he takes it all very internally and puts everything he’s got into his position, no matter where he is playing on the field. Listen to this story…”

Then Bryan retells this conversation about a game last week when Darek was pitching.

Bryan: Hey Buddy how’d you feel out there?

Darek:  It was OK but I got a little nervous today.

Bryan: You did? What happened, I’ve never heard you say you were nervous.

Darek:  Yeah, when that last batter was up I was standing on the mound looking at the catcher deciding what pitch to throw and it suddenly occurs to me: last inning, runners on base, 2 outs, we’re winning by one run. AND my team is depending on ME! I mean the whole team is out there depending on me to get the batter. For the first time I felt nervous. Remember, the count was 1 strike and 3 balls?

Bryan: I remember. So what did you do?

Darek:  I threw 2 more strikes!! (insert huge smile and look of confidence)

Of course Bryan was beaming as any proud father would and I was feeling the excitement of the moment even though I hadn’t been at the game. Immediately my brain went into gear thinking about how to use the story in my speaking engagements.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if we all carried that type of confidence and leadership into all of our activities?

Wouldn’t it be great if we had the presence of mind to realize when people are depending on us and we would be there for them every time?

Wouldn’t it be great if we felt the support of a team behind us in all activities?

No matter what position we hold in life, we can do these things: be confident; be dependable; and use teamwork! For the next three blog posts I’ll talk about each one of these in more detail.

Así, Elsa Anka, Carla Duval o Andrés Caparrós Jr esperan con ansia que llegue el verano para contar las bondades de Villaconejos de arriba junto a su alcalde, jugar a la patata caliente o gritar al lugareño que tenga cuidado con la vaquilla.

El resto del año siempre puedes ir de ETT a Pasalabra, que pagan bien, y te encontrarás con algún ex-actor de Al Salir de Clase, con Melody o con Alejandra Prat.

Ya no presentas premios en los TP de Oro, pero sí la moda primavera- verano de algún centro comercial junto a Juncal Rivero, en el que quizá también desfile Darek o Rosario Mohedano.

Cuando llega la navidad eres imprescindible para coger el teléfono en  los telemaratones, para marcarte un chachachá,  hacer un playback  de Paloma San Basilio, que te gasten una inocentada… Todo en favor de los niños más necesitados, cuando en ese momentolos auténticos  necesitados son los telespectadores que te observan. Allí  seguramente compartirás escenario y cubículo telefónico con Coral Bistuer, Oscar Higares o Blanca Fernández Ochoa.

En los últimos años has sido requerido para ser jurado de Miss
Andalucia Oriental, leer el pregón de las fiestas de Pola de Lena o
elegir a la reina del Carnaval de Soria.

Has participado en algún reality (se aceptan cocinas del infierno,
islas, granjas, coros…) o eres tertuliano de alguno de ellos
compartiendo saloncito con personajes de la talla de Rosa Benito,
Sofía Cristo, Efrén o Alex Casademunt

Te han invitado a Cine de Barrio a comentar un largometraje en el que  no participas pero de la que ni siquiera tienes relación con el
invitado. Así, Perlita de Huelva se sienta en el sofá para contarle a
Carmen Sevilla que opina de esa película que Lina Morgan hizo en 1974.
Perlita dirá que ese año coincidió con la comunión de su hijo o algo

Hoy me estreno en Teleginios trayendo conmigo la novena tertulia de la temporada y recordándole a Arena que me ofrecí para que la contratasen también en la tertulia del corazón de Radio San Vicente. Se conoce que aprovecho cualquier oportunidad para apuntarme a todos los saraos y, con la coña, acabé descubriendo que se ve que digo muchas palabrotas en antena. Manda huevos.

Lo fuerte es que Ana Obregón nos sirvió de excusa para introducir el tema que nos ocupaba esta semana: las series de médicos. Porque Anita, la Fantástica tuvo una aparición estelar en Hospital Central al darle pelusilla que su ex, el fornido Darek, apareciese como el nuevo buenorro de Yo soy Bea. Si es que en España no aprendemos. Porque a pesar de los intentos de plagio patrio, nunca ninguna serie de médicos llegará a ser tan grande como Urgencias, serie que nos dejará la próxima primavera tras 14 temporadas.

Por una semana que nos permitían tener a Juanjo en antena, va el tío y se pone a hablar con su madre sobre las croquetas de la abuela. Está claro que es lo peor de la nevera. Pero cuando estaba en el apogeo de mi sermón misal contra House, Juanjo apareció cuál ángel custodio y puso orden en la casa.

Claro, que él también aborrece al doctor House. Hay que decir que la discusión sobre el buen doctor nos hizo descubrir también que, por primera vez, Santi y yo estábamos de acuerdo en algo. Si la temporada pasada se intentó crear la leyenda urbana de que Juanjo y yo éramos enemigos, cosa que quedó descartada cuando se descubrió nuestra consanguinidad (en plan Mi gemela es hija única), este año se ha intentado fomentar la idea de que mi nuevo enemigo radiofónico es Santi. Pero la solución a este dilema no la voy a desvelar todavía.

No os voy a desvelar más sobre la tertulia porque, aunque odio mi yo-radiofónico, tenéis que escucharla y iluminaros, aunque sea por los sabios comentarios de Marina. Durante la tertulia decidimos que la semana siguiente hablaríamos de policías, así a bote pronto. Y es que en la tertulia televisiva somos un poco de ir por la patilla. Pero eso es lo que os gusta de nosotros, claro.

El fichero se corresponde con la novena tertulia televisiva de la segunda temporada de Reloj de Arena, emitido el 21 de noviembre de 2008 en Radio San Vicente, presentado por Arena García, con la participación de Marina de El diario de Mr. MacGuffin, Irene de Bytheway, Santiago de La tele no funciona y Juanjo de Mi caja tonta.

Se me ha caído el alma a los pies. Buceando por la red me metí en Becarios, una curiosa  sección alojada en la web de Telecinco, donde los  redactores en prácticas trabajan como actores en una sitcom con ciertas semejanzas a Camera Cafe. Alguno de los muchachos que allí trabajan tiene bastante más talento que ciertos actores que han  triunfado en series españolas.  Fran Perea sin ir más lejos, más conocido como Fran Berrea no le llega ni a la suela del zapato a Celia la gorrona, uno de los personajes de Becarios.

Se me está yendo la olla. Voy al grano. Sólo tenéis que pinchar aquí para ver a Darek en su verdadera dimensión. El vídeo es como un cuadro de Goya, refleja en profundidad aspectos desconocidos del retratado.

Parecía un Geyperman activado por control remoto. Hiela la sangre escuchar cómo se dirige a la esforzada periodista que brega incansable por sacarle una sonrisa.  Nada que ver con el derroche de simpatía, miradas insinuantes y sensualidad a raudales  que desplegó en La Noria, cuando observaba arrobado a Paloma Barrientos, a Marisa Martín Blázquez e incluso  a Jordi González.

Al final voy a tener que darle la razón a Ana Obregón, quien, ayer en Mira quien baila, parecía que quisiera quitarle el puesto a Anne Igartiburu. Lo mejor del programa, ver de nuevo a Manuel Bandera, que juega con demasiada ventaja.
