Once upon a time, a long time ago, there lived a man in a wealthy nation.  This man was the head of a popular political family in this country and had a lot of wealth and influence in the nation.  Eventually this man would go on the be the most powerful man in the country, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. 

During this time, there was a country across the sea which was causing him trouble, so he decided to invade.  The war was a bloody one, but in the end, our leader was forced to withdraw his troops and call it a loss.  Though he was praised for some minor victories, he could never forget the goals he did not accomplish there.

Not long after that, his son came of age, growing in popularity and also becoming commander-in-chief.  Throughout his childhood he heard the laments of his father over his losses across the Sea and also took on a hatred for these people.  He vowed to take up the cause of his father and to finish what is father had started. 

As soon as the opportunity presented itself, enhanced by propoganda against the foreigners, the son invaded the land across the sea with a huge force that he was sure could win the war.  After fighting and fighting, winning many battles but loosing too many men for his popularity and supply to last, he too was forced to give up.  And though he won some battles, was forced to admit defeat…

He resigns, goes home, and becomes  a popular statesman.

This is the story of Hamilcar and Hannibal Barca, Carthaginian generals in the Punic Wars against Rome.  This sounds too familiar to many people today though as it is a story that is repeated often throughout time.

Philip wanted the known world united by Macedonians, and Alexander made it happen, only to die prematurely and have his work divided and dissolved right after his death.

Marcus Aurelius the philosopher-king and poet groomed his son, Commodus, to rule with love and an appreciation for the classics.  However, in learning about Greece and the things his father loved, he only began to love himself.  He named himself Hercules and Zeus.  Eventually he would come to be known as the Beginning of the End of the Roman Empire.   

These stories go on and on to modern times.  Each story of a son trying to win the fights of his father end poorly.  And in the end, it seems that the nation, not the son himself seems to suffer much.  Sons are lost, empires fall, orphans are made: all for naught. 

To my knowledge in all of human history one son has come and fulfilled the work of his father, perfectly.

Quick note: As I started to study Jewish monopoly & control, I focused on the USA. Then went back to Germany, Poland, Russia, Eastern Europe. And Voila! He is in charge of all of Egypt. Now this a.m. I read of Daniel and the Lion’s Den. Howbeit that King Darius has 120 princes ruling all of Egypt, (I think it was Persia) and of the top 120, Daniel the Jew is put at the head of them all. I mean, you can see the anger of those 119 Egyptians wondering how a Jew comes in and takes over their country. You can see why they wanted to get rid of him. Also, I can now reason out as I never have before, that these “empires” that were run by Jews, hiding behind Egyptian faces, Roman faces, Britain’s face, and now America, use aggression and the acquisition of foreign lands. Especially for slaves. I’ve read that Egypt originally was founded by Whites. And certainly, as Egyptian soldiers gathered black and dark slaves from around the world, their women mated with them, and men mated with them, and what was once a pure White country, looks like Egypt today. Brown. America was once an all White country. With the acquisition of browns/blacks brought here by Jews, we also will be an all-Brown nation. I also read about Jesus. He goes to preach and heal in the town where he grew up. Then Jesus told the Jews of his hometown that they were thinking “Physician, heal thyself.” Which really shows that Jesus was a doctor. A doctor of the Mind, with a capital M. Even St. Luke was a physician and doctor and was his witness in recording his healings. But, when he went to his home town, the Jewish people in the synogogue scoffed him, ridiculed him, and demoralized him. Jesus said to his fellow Jews, “No man is recognized in his own country.” The Jews were so angry, that they united and rose up and went to kick him out of the temple. As if that wasn’t enough the angry Jews that hated Jesus took him to the outskirts of town to the nearest cliff. The Jews wanted to throw Jesus over the cliff. Somehow, Jesus was able to make himself invisible to their thought, and he snuck right out amond them to safety. He then went to another town near his home and taught in the Jewish synogogue and healed a man of an unclean devil. It is interesting to note that the “devil,” says to Jesus, “Who are you? Did you come to destroy us?” Could that “us” be the Jewish Pharasee-types, which control our land today? Also, I read in my metaphysical books of over 125 years ago written by a White woman: “I reluctant foresee great danger threatening our nation, –imperialism, monopoly, and a lax system of religion.” It is that “imperialism,” conquering other countries for war machine, debt, and to get free slaves, that has gone on in Egypt, and now we are the cursed one to carry on this devious and diabolical work. We are the American Empire. Of that there is no debt. Another comforting sentence is “There is no night but in God’s frown; there is no day but in God’s smile.” May God smile over you and keep you in His loving care on this Thanksgiving Holiday.

You can leave it to archaeologists to make exaggerated claims and you can leave it to journalists to swallow the nonsense. The readers of this little blog know that I have introduced the Ctesias Scale to measure poor archaeological journalism. A possible example of wilful disinformation was the announcement, earlier this week, that the remains of Cambyses‘ lost army had been found: go here or here for examples.

The story: in 525 BCE, the Persian king Cambyses conquered Egypt. After that, he sent an army to the west, to conquer the Oracle of Ammon. It never reached the place, and the Greek researcher Herodotus says that it was destroyed by a violent desert storm. Now, two Italian archaeologists, the twin brothers Alfredo and Angelo Castiglioni, claim to have found remains of the army, partly on a sheltered place where people might have tried to find cover against a sandstorm.

There are two reasons to be suspicious.

In the first place, Herodotus is not a very reliable author. Not because he is not interested in the truth: on the contrary, he is certainly one of the most truthloving writers of the ancient world. But it was hard to get correct information, and Herodotus was standing in a tradition that appreciated an artful presentation. So, in his Histories, Xerxes‘ failed expedition is mirrored by the failures of earlier Persian rulers. So, Herodotus says that Cyrus was defeated by the Massagetes (according to Xenophon, Cyrus died of natural causes); that Darius lost a navy in a storm at the Athos; that Darius also lost an army during a Scythian campaign; and that Cambyses lost an army in the desert. These stories are not necessarily untrue, but the repetition makes one suspicious. I would not be surprised if some of these stories were created by Herodotus because he believed they had to have happened.

But even if we assume that Cambyses sent out an expedition to the Oracle of Ammon, there is still a reason not to believe the claim by our two Italian archaeologists. What they have found, or claim to have found, is a set of Persian weapons (e.g., arrowheads), skulls, and bones. Even if we assume that they are indeed Persian, it is a serious logical fallacy to assume that they belong to soldiers of Cambyses’ campaign. The Persians controled Egypt for more than a century (from 525 to c.401) and there must have been dozens of occasions on which soldiers were sent to the west. All these expeditions may have found itself lost in the western desert. What archaeologists can find, is evidence that a Persian army got into trouble; but stating that the finds belonged to a particular expedition is introducing a secundum quid. I think we must be suspicious.

Postscript

Perhaps this message at Andie Byrnes’ Egyptology Blog may be relevant too; although it leaves the Cambyses story itself unchallenged, it suggests that the Castiglionis are not completely bona fide. That may be mudslinging, but I think that suspicion about the report is completely justifiable.

I just got home from an interesting date to say the least. The man was Ethan*. It was not our first date; I have known him for about ten years and was actually intimate with him all those years ago. Our friendship has survived through time and space; tonight was the first time we had even laid eyes on one another in eight years. As odd as our situation may seem, that’s not what made the date so interesting. It was because his girlfriend was along for the ride.

Ethan and Andrea have an open relationship. They both date other people when the opportunity arises but that’s not to say they just sleep around. They simply have multiple significant others. Ethan has laughed for the last eight years that I’m never single and therefore never available to go out with him. Several months ago, he asked me out in a rare moment of singledom. I told him that I didn’t think I could deal with dating someone that I couldn’t really develop a relationship with.

However, a few weeks ago, I realized that what he could give me was what I thought I needed. Darius gives me everything one needs from a boyfriend but intimacy. With him in my life, intimacy was all I was lacking. So the obvious solution was to find an intimate partner. I did not, however, want just a friend with benefits. I wanted someone that could just be there for me in the lonely moments, someone I could call on, someone that would be there to show me love in various ways. I didn’t need just a friend with benefits, I needed a cuddle buddy. So I called Ethan and told him my newfound desire. He acknowledged that I had sound reasoning for my decision. We decided to give it a try. His only stipulation was that at some point I’d need to meet his girlfriend.

Tonight, we had plans to meet for dinner. He calls me to finalize details and throws a little surprise at me.

E: “What would you think about meeting Andrea* tonight?”

I: “Um, I don’t care, that would be fine.”

E: “Good. I think you’ll like her.”

I: “I’m sure I will. If she’s someone you’d date, I’m sure I’ll like her.”

Ethan just chuckled.

So, Ethan and I meet at a central location. The first moments are slightly strained as we wait for Andrea who is driving separately. We stand by his car, shivering in the cold, waiting, mostly in silence. I mean, what do you say? I’m standing beside a man I slept with eight years ago, waiting for his girlfriend to come have dinner with us.

The time has changed him. He has less hair on his head and more weight on his middle. But I know I’ve changed too. I’m probably sixty pounds heavier than I was the last time his hands were on me. I no longer have the soft fresh face of a kid I had when I last looked into his eyes. I had only been 19 years old and now my 27-year-old self stands beside him unable to look in his direction at all, let alone to look deep into his eyes.

Andrea finally pulls up. She is cute but not intimidatingly so. She has a short cropped haircut and glasses. She has the same little belly that time had given us all. She gets out of the car, smiling. She walks up and shakes my hand, introducing herself. She then gives Ethan a hug and cuddles up to him with her head on his chest. I nervously overt my eyes from their embrace. 

In about ten minutes, we are all laughing together.

Dinner goes amazingly well. We all talk about life. Andrea and I ask each other the typical getting-to-know-you questions. We team up in teasing Ethan, breaking into laughter while he makes pitiful puppydog faces. I know that she is someone I could be friends with. I slowly control my urge to look away when they touch. She refuses to let me pay for my dinner which I feel guilty about.

We drive back to the meeting spot. Andrea hugs me.

A: “It was nice to meet you.”

I: “You too.”

A: “Thank you for being willing to meet me.”

I: “It’s no problem. Really it’s no big deal.”

She hugs and kisses Ethan goodnight, telling him she’ll see him at home. She leaves and he walks me to my car.

I don’t really know what to say or do. I give him a hug and he says that it’s good to see me again after all this time. We linger in the hug. Just having someone to grip onto is surprisingly comforting. We finally pull away from each other and we just stare at each other in that “Should I kiss him/her?” moment. Nerves force me to lean my head onto his chest. He hugs me and pushes my hair behind my ear. When I pull my head back up, he reaches for my face and lightly kisses me. I just smile and pull at the cord on his hooded sweatshirt. Then we both went our separate ways, me home to my cat and him home to his girlfriend.

What  strange turn of events today was. I think I did very poorly on a test, did a 180 degree hydroplane, delivered several pizzas in the rain, ruined my car key and then spent time with someone unlikely. I hope tomorrow doesn’t put me in such a fragile state.

And this picture also a strange turn of events and I will probably never be with this people together again, at least for a long time. I would be lying to say I didn’t miss it.

There’s no one online to talk to and I’m really bored so I thought I’d do this…

I decided to cast the characters of the House Of Night books. My only problem is that I can’t find anyone good enough to play Zoey, think if they ever did make a TV show/film it would have to be an unknown. I also didn’t find a Grandma Redbird because I don’t know any old Cherokee women…

Anyway, here it goes:

James Stark – Hunter Parrish from Weeds. He has short hair now that he’s older but I think he’d be a better Stark with longer hair. (I’m not completely satisfied with this choice to be honest)

Heath Luck – Steven R. McQueen from Vampire Diaries. If I think of someone else to play Stark then I think Hunter Parris would be good as Heath too. Steven R. McQueen does seem like a good fit though, his character on Vampire Diaries is similar too (not the reason I picked him though) but I think maybe he’d be better if he lightened his hair…

Erik Night - Chace Crawford from Gossip Girl. Maybe a bit old compared to the rest of them but I just couldn’t think of anyone with his kind of looks who is younger and doesn’t look too boyish and cutsie.

Damien Maslin – Nicholas D’Agosto from Heroes. Good looking but with the cutsie edge that means he could pull off being gay but not really camp.

Jack Twist - Jeremy Sumpter from Peter Pan. Sweet and innocent looking, could pull off the whole weak, girly campness – but maybe a little bit young to be paired with Nicholas D’Agosto?

 
Stevie Rae Johnson – Hayden Panettiere from Heroes. She has the southern belle thing down to a T and just oozes with ‘friendly and innocent’ which matches the first few books but she can pull off the bitchyness for later on in the plot lines. I also considered her as Aphrodite…

Erin Bates – Taylor Swift from…erm..music. There are a lot of pretty blondes in this series and I guess I was kind of running out of ideas when I stumbled upon her. I think she could be quite good as Erin, the whole fashion centred thing would suit her well.

Shaunee Cole – Dana Davis from Heroes (I didn’t even notice this theme until I was typing it up). She can play a right bitch when she wants to but she really pulls off the loyal friend thing.

Aphrodite LaFont – Kaley Cuoco from 8 Simple Rules/Charmed/Big Bang Theory. Just trust me when I say she’d be the perfect Aphrodite!

Loren Blake – Matt Dallas from Kyle XY. He looks pretty much exactly how I imagined Blake to look (don’t really know why). I think his age is about right compared to the rest of them too (maybe not Chace…)

 Professor Dragon Lankford – Ewan McGregor from lots of things. He has the small friendly look to him but would do great in a sword/foil/lightsabre fight and can pull off being dangerous just like Dragon.

Professor Lenobia – Jennifer Garner from lots of things. She looks calm and intellectual but with that kind of other side to her that you don’t want to mess with.

Neferet - Rose McGowan from Charmed. Come on, you know she’d make the perfect Neferet! She’s beautiful, elegant and everyone could easily fall in love with her… but everyone knows she has a twisted side to her.

Kalona – Taylor Lautner from Twilight. No, this wasn’t just an excuse to include him (mainly). I realise that he’s a lot younger than Rose McGowan but he’s only supposed to appear about 19 to Zoey….and perfectly godlike. Agreed?

I think with a cast list like this I know the perfect person to play Zoey… Me! What do you think? (After having Taylor as Kalona I may have to change my opinion on who I want Zoey to end up with…you think I could have Taylor as Stark? I need a hotter Stark!

I remember the old me.  He couldn’t find away in this world, but he did understand life.  He never really had a problem, because he welcomed them.  A wise man once said, “pain is only a feeling that we show the world when want to.” I wonder did he ever show the world his pain?  Some would think he was so normal, but mask are everywhere this time of year.

This probably goes without saying if you know me at all, but, I *heart* Darius Rucker. His voice is fantastic, and I love that he was versatile enough to translate a successful rock career into a flourishing country solo pursuit. With that said, his concert last night with Rascal Flatts was A-MAZING!

Despite the fact that driving the last mile to the Tacoma Dome took nearly an hour (ok, 40 minutes, but it FELT longer. rant later.) and Darius was already on stage 25 minutes after the start of the show… I definitely got to see plenty of his music in action – be still my heart. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I knew the words to every single song he played, including the Hootie songs. He even ended the show with “Purple Rain,” and yes, I can sing that too.

Rascal Flatts took the stage after Darius, and I can wrap their performance up in one word: Multimedia! Holy cow. There were lights, videos, fireworks, and special effects everywhere you looked. Their stage set-up was the most grandiose thing I’ve ever seen (but I haven’t seen Panic at the Disco, who apparently goes all out). It included a runway into the crowd that nearly stretched to the end of the concert hall. In addition, the runway had two ‘T’s in it that stretched across the hall perpendicular to the main arm. While you may be asking yourself, why is all this stage necessary? I’ll tell you that the guys in Rascal Flatts do not, I repeat, DO NOT stand still. As evidence by my inability to catch many good photos without blurry movement, they danced, ran, and rocked all over the place. But the crowd loved it, and so did I. While I couldn’t sing as many songs as the girls around me, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and applaud the band’s use of visual intrigue.

At the end of the show, the bands must have heard that I was a little late and thus my Darius time was cut short, because they did a joint encore! Wahoo! Both Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker sang together (some of each band’s songs). I love this encore format. Isn’t music collaboration what it’s all about? The Counting Crows used this type of collaborative format throughout their entire show last summer with Augustana, and it was a smashing success, in my opinion. Hey Bands: PEOPLE LOVE WHEN YOU PLAY TOGETHER! It makes them feel like they are getting an exclusive performance that people who buy cd’s or listen to the radio don’t get. hint hint.

While I didn’t get to see the opening comedian, Cledus T. Judd, I left feeling completely satisfied with the experience. I do not regret the money I spent to see this show, and I highly recommend anyone interested in this type of music try to catch them while they are touring.

Ok, as promised above, here is my mini rant. I. Hate. Driving. To. The. Tacoma. Dome. Not that the actual venue isn’t lovely (it is), but there is not a good way to get in or out of the parking lots. The traffic jam starts about 2-3 miles from the exit on the interstate. It’s a literal parking lot and people get really frustrated. They really need to figure this out. Unhappy concert-goers mean less money spent at the actual venue on merchandise, food, and beer. I wish more big concerts were at the Key Arena. At least traffic isn’t stupid. Ok, I’m done.

Happy Friday!

Petrecere mare (a doua din serie pe anul 2009 după a mea) în familia Crişan, mulţi copilaşi invitaţi, dar unde dragoste este şi distracţie este.

I am blessed to have a wonderful man in my life. He is sweet and caring. He cooks and cleans. He gets along wonderfully with my family. He’d do anything for me….except sleep with me. He is my best friend, Darius*. We have been friends for years and he is moving in with me soon as a roommate.

Our relationship seems strange to outsiders. He stays with me for days. We sleep in the same bed. We can talk about anything from everyday life to relationships to sex but the conversations are more like ones between girlfriends. Our relationship appears on the outside as just that: a relationship. However, we just share a wonderful friendship.

I will admit that some days it’s difficult. When he gets out of bed and laughs about his morning erection as he stumbles to the bathroom or he changes his shirt in front of me, showing off his chest, it’s impossible to not wonder ‘what if’. In lonely moments, I feel the urge to cuddle up to him while he’s sleeping soundly beside me just because I want to be close to a man. But, I am so in love with our relationship as it is, I would do nothing to jeopardize it.

I think of us as that elderly couple of friends whose lives are complete with just each other. He fills a void for me and I am happy with it. I tell him that he’s the only man I need in my life. I can imagine us just living out our lives together just as we are.

Darius looked up into the trees in wonder. Legends had told of this place but he never expected to see it with his own eyes. The flowers on the trees glowed faintly. Stories held that if you plucked the blossoms the light would never fade. Darius wondered, since no one had seen this place in centuries, what happened if you didn’t pluck them but let them grow. He wondered if the fruit of the trees glowed as well. He sat, watching the trees, for hours in silence.

He dosed off after some time and woke to the sound of footsteps. Still silent in the thicket he’d nestled in he watched as giant oni prodded smaller fey-like beings toward the glowing trees. The small beings plucked the blossoms with a show of great reluctance. Darius stared in shock as they ate the glowing flowers. When they had consumed the flowers, their eyes took on a strange appearance. Their pupils and irises disappeared and the whites took on the same strange glow that had been in the flower.

“Now they’re ready for the mines,” one oni said as he led the fey out of the forest. Darius stood silently and shook his head. The legends had never mentioned eating the flowers. However, he wondered if the glow would fade from the feys’ eyes. He wondered if they were blinded or if they now would see in the darkness of the mines. Silently he crept after the oni. It was his duty as a chronicler to find out.
