When i hear Schorcher nowadays i start to question whether i have ever actually liked anything he’s done. Didn’t he used to make ok beats? Can’t remember. I try to convince myself i at least have enjoyed him as a mc, but even thats hard. I really don’t know where to begin with this. Is Schorcher making a conscious decision to make worse music than Chipmunk or Tinchy? Why does the music sound like bad versions of the american hiphop everyone already hated hated two-three years ago? Why after making good music and having a career do you decide you want to be Soulja Boy? Answer me Schorcher, how come your best track sounds like Phil Collins? In fact it sounds worse than Phil Collins but still. “On top of the roof haha”. Yeah thats funny, being on top of the roof, thats funny, or is it? What so funny about being on the roof Schorcher?  What is a space invader Schorcher? Why are you standing on the chairs Schorcher? Why doesn’t she know your name Schorcher? Is it because all music you do nowadays is total crap, is that the reason Schorcher?

I’m not going to make a habit of posting videos made by those big comedy sites with large production budgets, mostly because I approve more of the do-it-yourself, obviously homemade efforts, but collegehumor nailed this.

Flawless.

Any fan of the recent Dark Knight movies, or any Batman-lore, will appreciate a turnaround gag. Batman as fallible. Our grimacing, serious-to-a-fault caped crusader making boo-boos. Collegehumor poked at select lines from the films, also poking at the standard impossibilities of Batman’s ninja moves, and here were are, pants-peeing away. I’m pretty sure that if you only caught Detective Comics in the 50s and you saw this video now, you would still appreciate it. The actor playing Batman has all of Christian Bale’s awesome lip-movements…things you notice on the big screen but ignore because of that haunting and intense orchestra tune in the background all the time. But yes, he really is waggling his lips around that much, and yes, it really is that funny. Try muting the movie the next time you notice Bats saying something particularly cheesey, and I bet there will be a tongue flailing to accompany that gem of speech bubble bliss modified for the silver screen.

You can take it a little further. Your Detective Gordon, an aloof type, still behaving aloof by looking everywhere except to the individual he is addressing, yet here that conversation style is REVEALED to be the characteristic that allows Batman his escape route all the time. I think it’s a lesson in contemporary manners. Please make eye contact with people you’re speaking to. Everything else is just rude.

A ideia inicial de escrever para o Judão era sobre um nerd na Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo. Mas acontece que há duas coisas: 1) eu não sou nerd e 2) não estava a fim de assistir nada da Mostra. Calma, que essa é uma técnica de prender a sua atenção, afirmando duas coisas que podem polemizar. Então vamos lá.

Eu sou nerd, claro. Mas não do jeito que as pessoas estereotiparam os CDFs. Gosto de Lanterna Verde, X-Men, Star Wars e De Volta para o Futuro. Mas também gosto de Wong Kar-Wai, Pearl Jam e Monet. Tenho toda uma teoria sobre o gostar das coisas, sobre colocar as pessoas em categorias pré-determinadas, mas vou te poupar. O fato é que há algum tempo passei a quebrar certos paradigmas e pude tirar proveito de mais coisas. Não jogo RPG e por isso não sou CDF? Gosto do diretor Jean Paul Civeyrac e por isso sou cabeçudo? Sei pelo menos cinco versões diferentes da morte de Thomas e Martha Wayne, por isso sou nerd? Acho o Nirvana sensacional e isso faz de mim um grunge? Que seja. Pode me colocar a tag que quiser. Vou continuar curtindo cada uma dessas coisas, sem precisar defender uma ideologia específica, baseada em coisas tão banais e divertidas como música, HQ e filmes.

Essa foi a primeira vez em três anos que não trabalhei na Mostra ou em algo relacionado a ela. Por isso não queria assistir a nenhum filme da programação. Era muito agito e só queria assistir um filme em paz. O único que assisti foi Bastardos Inglórios. Em 2007, fiz assessoria do evento, ocasião em que ‘conheci’ o Borbs. Até então, só sabia o nome que assinava os textos do Judão. Por isso, o lobby que fiz, para que a equipe desse estimado site ganhasse credenciais, foi justamente por achar que mereciam.

Ouvi algumas chacotas, mas sempre mantive minha opinião. O motivo: leia o parágrafo anterior. Simplesmente segui a lógica: se eu era leitor do Judão e via filmes da Mostra [não só os blockbusters, mas os 'cabeçudos' também], a probabilidade de existir mais pessoas nessa condição era grande. Nesse ano, uma das pessoas que já trabalhou comigo mandou-me um email, com o release da MTV anunciando a parceria com o Judão. O email: “Você tinha razão. Eles venceram”.

‘Eles’ não, cara-pálida. Nós. E não nós, os nerds, apenas. Pegue Rock Band dos Beatles, por exemplo. São dois mundos que ‘colidem’. Repare na ascensão e reconhecimento de filmes como Spider-Man, X-Men e afins. Até as moças que praticam yoga ‘venceram’, já que há jogos específicos para a prática, no Wii. Acho que o caminho da ‘vitória’ segue lado a lado a trajetória do avanço tecnológico nos últimos anos. Quando o mundo deixou de olhar para Bill Gates como estereótipo de nerd e passou a ter Steve Jobs como seu símbolo, começamos a trilhar a vitória. E pelamor, sem essa de entrar na pendenga Microsoft x Apple e defender seu sistema operacional, dizendo que o verdadeiro geek-nerd-CDF usa é Linux. O Bill Gates só tem cara de bobo e a palavra ‘geek’ sempre foi associada a isso, a alguém meio bobo, meio estranho [assim como 'punk', para arruaceiro].

Liberte-se das categorias em que te colocaram. Aceite que alguém ‘nerd’ nunca tenha lido Dark Knight, Watchmen ou Akira. Assista comédias românticas com sua guria, para dar risada e vê-la sorrir. Vá para praia sem iPod [ou celular!]. Viaje para algum lugar que não tenha energia elétrica e aprenda a montar uma barraca. Só não faça algo porque alguém esperou que você fizesse. Que a Força esteja com você.

Yesterday, i watched inglorious basterds at our home. another great movie by quentin tarantino! with lots of time staying at home, and with the discomfort of cough and body ache (actually ubos sa hawak ug taas sa lubot, unsay english ani nga body part? harhar!), i watched again the last movie of heath ledger, “Dark Knight”. Some of the lines from Joker that I can still remember are: “If you are good of something, do not give it for free”, and “Destroy an established order, and everything will be in chaos”. Grrrrr! Joker is a joke.

As a PG-rated Robin might cry, “Holy crap, Batman!”

New Moon smashed The Dark Knight’s single-day and opening-day box-office records with an estimated $72.7 million Friday, its studio reported today.

If the movie’s unprecedented midnight business was “absolutely freakish,” then its unprecedented full-day take was simply phenomenal.

“It doubled the opening day of the first movie—and Twilight was no slouch itself,” Box Office Mojo’s Brandon Gray said. “It’s just sensational.”

With New Moon having already eclipsed its $50 million budget, two of Dark Knight’s showiest records, and Twilight’s entire opening-weekend gross, about the only question left is: How big can this thing get?

In two words, really big. Although maybe not record big.

Gray guessed New Moon will end up with a $140 million Friday-Sunday, which would leave it shy of Dark Knight’s ultimate speed record: the 2008 film’s $158.4 million opening weekend. (It would also leave it shy of the No. 2 film, Spider-Man 3, which debuted with $151.1 million in 2007.)

At this point, though, it’s dangerous to guess what New Moon might, or might not, do next.

Earlier in the week, the wolf-enhanced vampire sequel was expected to score a big $80 million opening weekend. Then a bigger $100 million looked more like it. By yesterday, after setting its $26.3 million midnight mark, Exhibitor Relations was calling for a gigantic $125 million-$130 million.

Until further notice, Twi-hards—and the cinematic object of their desire—will not be underestimated.

Here’s a by-the-numbers look at what New Moon has done so far:

• $36 million: The Twilight opening-day figure it blew past.

• $62.2 million: The single- and opening-day Dark Knight grosses it eclipsed.

• $69.6 million: The Twilight opening weekend it’s already exceeded.

• $104 million: What Friday’s Top 10 films, led by you-know-what, grossed in a single day—yet another record, per Box Office Mojo.

BUT IS IT A BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE according to the concepts we learned?

Well it’s official, New Moon has the biggest midnight opening in history beating out both Harry Potter and Dark Knight making 26.3 million dollars. It looks like Twilight is going to stay around even though critics have been blasting it, hell even we here at InternetPopular have been blasting Twilight since it came out. We’ll probably still continue bad mouthing the films merits and those that approve of them but in the end it all comes down to money talks and New Moon is holding the bank right now. So here is what all you Twihards want, some photos of its star Kristen Stewart who is undoubtedly the hottest thing on the internet this weekend.

MOST.  AWESOME.  GAME.  Ever ….

Anyone who has ever played this game…. SNES, perhaps?… will know what I’m saying. Better than Myst. Better than Nethack (I just keep dying). Better than Sims. Arguments can commence now, but in my experience… FFIV is the most enjoyable game I’ve ever played.

So much so that I’m searching a working SNES console and the original cartridge for FFII. on eBay of course. A few years ago, you could find a SNES for $20. Now, I think it’s going for over $50. A hefty sum for an outdated system.

Anyway, Final Fantasy II or IV (as released on the Nintendo DS with updated graphics) has an amazing storyline with the most memorable characters ever. Remember when Cecil becomes a Paladin? Remember Palom and Parom? Kain? Tellah? Rosa? Rydia? I wanted to name my future child Rydia when I was 7 years old. And of course… the Chocobos.

Oh, yeah… and the music is absolutely phenomenal.

I can’t get into the story because there is too much and to talk about it wouldn’t do it justice. Playing the game, however, would. Just watch this video:

Contrario a todas las versiones que han estado circulando últimamente, parece ser que la tercera parte de Batman estará comenzando a filmarse el próximo año, muy probablemente en el primer trimestre. Sin embargo, de acuerdo a lo que los mismos estudios mencionan, mientras más tiempo tarde la cinta en iniciarse, menos probable es que Nolan esté dirigiéndola. Nationalism in America’s churches is in many ways more explicit and more unnoticed by participants than even 1930’s Germany. The church I work at has decided that it’s far more acceptable to say the pledge of allegiance than to take communion on a regular basis. This shows a church that has lost its way, a community not gathered around the cross, but around a constitution, around not God’s Word, but the republic.

The church I attend is confesssional, it has creeds, it has liturgies, the sad fact of the matter is that these liturgies are America’s ideology. Our creeds are not the Christian creeds, but the creeds of America. Our pastor stands to decry a godless society week after week in love and patience, but, cannot even begin to articulate the problems which we really face. I’ve heard sermons about the evils of evolution and how serving Jesus is like being in the American service, I’ve stood in silent horror as my brothers and sisters salute a flag, pledging allegiance to a bloodthirsty nation in the very community that was built as a community of peace, and cross bearing discipleship.

I’ve heard our pastor thank veterans for defending our freedom, when really, there hasn’t been anything near a just war in the history of America, and the only war that comes remotely close is the European theatre of WWII. But even that was invalidated by our decision to as a nation commit the greatest act of terrorism ever known to history. There’s no defense of freedom in the wars we fight today, or in any of our wars, it’s never been about the defense of freedom it’s been about the unnamed expansion of empire. It’s been about cultural indoctrination and the self-entitled right to supremacy assumed by the American people.

The “tolerant” Americans have sought to excuse themselves from their imperialism by calling it other things, including: a war on terror, defending our freedom, liberating the oppressed, taking out a threat to our national security, disabling a mass murderer, bringing democracy to a people in need of freedom. The rhetoric is all the same and all underlies what’s really going on. America is a darkened face, and a nation willing to commit seedy acts to save her image, to save face. Just like Two-Face and Batman in the Dark Knight, our image has been marred by the publication of torture acts, of really looking at the things we’ve done in order to save “this fair city” from “madmen”.

America’s two face is the presidency and the CIA, agencies we love to praise, that we now have no choice but to see as disfigured and disfiguring aspects of our society. So we’ve created the idea of “the troops” and “freedom” as our heroes, who bear the weight of our guilt, for better and for worse, we shove off the blame on the president, the vice president, the government agencies, the powerlessness of the american people. The mask we’ve taken on for ourselves is a deliberate and overtly intentional rebranding, a way to distance ourselves from the war we find ourselves in. Yet it doesn’t change the reality that is Two-Face, the reality that our white knights have turned out to be monsters.

Our nation is a people determined to be free of guilt, obsessed with ignoring the past to live in the eternal present. The death of metanarrative and historical unity in American culture is a sign of the ways in which the American project is mediating its own failure to itself. We have become dejected and rather than acknowledge our place in history, we’d rather displace ourselves from it in what Foucault called differance. Trying to make ourselves differ from the past and even our present, making America an ideal, an invisible unity, a sinless body removed from the sins of individual persons.

America’s ecclesiological apologetic for itself is that it is an invisible body, perfectly unmarred by the sins of the past. The ideal still lives on, despite historical failures, because these were the failures of presidents, of leaders, but not of America. Underlying America is a strong belief in her invisible unity, despite her radical inclusion of most peoples (although there are some dissenters like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh). But nevertheless, the claim of America’s idealistic unity and legitimacy as this ideal society in the minds of both conservatives and liberals stands.

As Christians, we do not hope for America, we do not hope in America, we do not take oaths of allegiance, to church or state, baptism is our yes. We need take no oaths of allegiance to the church, to the bible, to the Christian flag, to Jesus. Baptism is our yes, so let us live as though it matters. Pledging allegiance to the Christian flag is rarely if ever done without pledging allegiance to the American flag first, and it just goes to show where the priorities are.

I think that this video shows the problem in explicit detail so you know i’m not just making this up.

the only difference between that first video and the one that follows is not all the children in the first video have flags, but the sentiment is the same. The only difference between American and German fascism is that Americans are gathered around the invisible church that is “Christian America” rather than a charismatic leader. Fundamentalist churches have displaced the invisible church with the visible america in need of “restoration”. My only question is, were we a Christian nation while we moved in slaughtering indians, or after that, when we decided to import slaves to create our livelihoods? Was it at our earliest founding, by Catholic missionaries? Or was it when Puritans decided to betray the natives who had taught them to work the land?

What separates the “Christian” nationalism above from the one presented below?

What would Bonhoeffer say? What would Karl Barth say? What might St. Paul say? Augustine?

What starts as a treasure hunt by the Penguin soon turns into a near-apocalyptic ordeal when he accidentally revives the legendary Dracula. Immediately, the prince of darkness begins to feed, snatching innocent citizens of Gotham from its streets.

Darkness blankets the city and the caped crusader is all who stands in the way between Dracula and the city’s doom.

Wow. That was my first reaction when watching this. This direct-to-DVD release doesn’t view as your standard Batman cartoon. This truly is a monster tale and views more like a horror movie than a superhero flick.

The vampires in this film are scary, looking like something between a vampire and a zombie. Dracula himself is neat, trim and suave, yet carries a presence of death.

This DVD also introduces Batman’s love interest, Vicky Vale (who appeared both in the comics and in the 1989 movie). I have yet to discover how much of a role she will have in the half hour episodes of The Batman series (I have only watched up to season three), but it was great to see her on screen. It was also wonderful to see Bruce Wayne dealing with a female lead in a realistic way and having once again come face to face with Batman getting in the way of his personal life.

A surprising touch to this film was the Joker, not so much the character but what happens to him. Cool indeed.

This is a solid Bat-flick, one which is meant for an older audience, definitely, not for kids. 13 or 14 and up, I’d say.

This flick is a keeper, one every true Bat fan should have.

De acuerdo al actor Michael Caine, es muy posible que no llegue a haber secuela de Dark Knight, o en caso de que ocurra, no será en un plazo breve. Two weeks ago, SM Fairview had a mall show where you can meet and greet The Dark Knight.  I was actually waiting for this even since I’m a big fan of The Dark Knight.  But it somewhat slipped my mind and while we’re having coffee in SM last Nov. 2nd, a voiced boomed out in the Annex Atrium that The Dark Knight meet and greet will be starting soon.  Sadly, I didn’t have my dSLR with me.  So my wife took my picture with The Dark Knight using my cellphone cam.  It’s not as good as a dSLR pic, but hey, it’s better than none.  So it was a surreal moment for me as I’ve finally met & greeted my favorite superhero of all time, Batman aka The Dark Knight.

After moderate success in his debut film ‘8 Mile’, Eminem is taking another crack at the big screen in his upcoming film entitled ‘Shady Talez’. The 37 year old will play three different characters in the comic book style horror flick, hoping to deflect the assumption that he only had the range to basically play himself in a feature length film. Eminem apparently also co-wrote the flick with Underworld star Kevin Grevioux.

The rapper, whose popularity has diminished over the years after 2 sub par albums, will try to jump start his career after a series of embarrassing moments in the spotlight, including being dissed by diva Mariah Carey and being teabagged in public by Sacha Baron Cohen. Eminem admitted he was in on the publicity stunt, a startling admission considering the bulk of his fans are homophobic and were already becoming disenchanted with Em’s deteriorating music career. Over the years Marshall Mathers’ flow has become a shadow of what it once was, his verbal gymnastics morphing into a predictable, monotonous style, turning the one time hip hop hellion into just another emcee.

It has been rumored that his ability to rhyme was directly related to his consumption of ecstasy, but since experiencing a near methadone overdose while on tour in 2005, Eminem has apparently been clean. In what some are calling an obvious imitation or at the very least an unbelievable coincidence, a leaked photo of Eminem in his Shady Talez make-up has a striking resemblance to Heath Ledger as The Joker in the Dark Knight. Art may be imitating the life of a deceased artist, and the risk Mathers is taking by potentially attempting to remind viewers of Ledger’s brilliant performance could be the nail in his acting coffin.

No word yet on who will be directing or co-starring in the film. Shady Talez is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2010.
