…Roger Waters…

One of the creators of the best Rock band in history Pink Floyd…, along with David Gilmour, Nick Mason, And the Late Richard Wright and Syd Barrett…

Anybody whose anybody that thinks he/she knows music knows at least a couple of albums, and that’s not hard at all with 1973’s Dark Side of the Moon being the third best-selling album of all-time and voted in the top five best albums on almost every Rock site and magazine… You also have 1979’s The Wall which was adapted into the 1982 film by Alan Parker Starring Bob Geldolf, and later in 1990 performed Live in Berlin in front of a staggering sell-out crowd of over 350,000 people, with people from fifty-two countries watching the two-hour event television broadcast.

After Pink Floyd dis-banded in 1985 he continued on leading an amazing career as a solo artist, releasing 3 excellent studio albums (each in its own way), 2 soundtrack albums, one opera (Ça Ira), and playing a number of world tours two of which were released on DVDs (The Wall Live in Berlin, In The Flesh)

I can’t do the man justice writing only a few paragraphs, but there is enough information online, and I’ll give you links and references you can go to learn more about the best songwriter that ever lived… These are my personal opinions and to me there’s no debating the fact that no other artist can ever come close to Roger’s musical and lyrical genius…

…

What I want to point out in this post is a recent short documentary film Roger was a part of about the humanitarian effects of the separation wall in Palestine… The unjust, unaccepted, and blatant disregard to international laws. A disgusting slap in the face to a people who are now being publicly harassed and stripped away of their most human basic rights and needs… We all know the story, and that’s why we never forget, and we all “try” to “do” something…

My respect goes to all of those people who contributed in making that film, although I know it’s a simple reminder, and it could’ve been much stronger… But for now it’s reassuring to know a film like this can be made… with the help of an international public figure like Roger Waters…

“The reason for walls is always fear, whether the personal walls that we build around ourselves or walls like this that frightened governments build around themselves,” Waters says.

“It fills me with horror, the thought of living in a giant prison,” Waters says as he spray-paints “We don’t need no thought control” on the wall.

…

Carpe diem.

In a creation myth rivaling that of the most powerful shoguns of ancient Japan, today you were born

In a creation myth rivaling that of the most powerful shoguns of ancient Japan, today you were born into the body of a coal black Aprilia RSV4.

Your dark, naked body shone in the full moonlight that permeated the room and caused our bodies to contrast so virtually we embodied natural duality. My hair lapped across your taut chest – dampening into mahogany cat o’nine tails. Our sweat mixed as we writhed against one another; resting only momentarily in ecstatic postures. As we posed in tantra, our tongues met first, then moist lips slipped top over bottom, bottom over top – exchanging the business of being in charge.

There seemed to be no limit to the amount of pleasure we could receive from each other. Then suddenly, without warning your chiseled arms wrapped themselves around my perfect, round ass and lifted. I was on top of you in an instant. Supine beneath me, you tensed every muscle as solid and hard as your cock. I felt you grow deeper inside me. Every inhale was a gasp of pleasure. Every exhale was a moan of sweet release.

Darkness enveloped us as the moon rose too high to illuminate our bed through the tall southern window of the room. There were no doors. The blankets and pillows were yours. Dizzy whimpered in the corner and you reassured her that we would both live through the ordeal. I lost sight of you. I blinked. I looked down where you should have been – where I could still feel you. I saw the shine of your body as I had before and relaxed for a moment. But, how could you shine when there was no moon?

The warmth of your body between my legs became something all together new and exciting. I felt your body heave as our sweat turned molten and cooled to smooth metal. Electricity passed through us and your atoms split – exposed to oxygen in the brisk, night air that blew in from the open window. We shivered as we both came to orgasm. That would be our last common act as human beings.

I held on tight with both legs; my creamy thighs straining for a grip. Your chest turned to chassis – a twin-spar adjustable aluminum frame dipped in anthracite – the highest rank of coal – just for looks. Your arms dissolved Christ-like from around my waist into a front suspension of 43-mm stanchions in an upside-down fork. Your elbows became adjustable and spring preloaded with hydraulic compression for rebound damping. Your hands were dual 320-mm diameter floating stainless steel discs with Brembo monobloc radial calipers. I shuddered and reached to cradle your head as I realized what was happening.

Mixed low and thick, your legs became the twin-sided swing arm now deftly fitted between the bend where my hip and ankle made a perfect triangle. Your knees merged into one Öhlins Racing monoshock with piggyback. Your feet morphed into a 220-mm disc brake with a Brembo floating caliper and two 32-mm isolated pistons. Instead of boots, you wore completely machined Aprilia forged aluminum alloy five-split spokes.

A breeze picked up in the room and swept my hair around my shoulders to barely cover the tips of my rock hard nipples. I was excited and scared. I still held your held in my hands. You looked up at me with a stare so confident; my fear vanished and was replaced again by desire. It appeared as though you were glowing through a third eye!

As the transformation was near complete, I knew that this ethereal glow would soon be the center of the tri-jeweled crown of guiding light on our impending journey. I pinched the your fleshy lobes one last time before they turned to grips; found a comfortable two-fingered position around the brakes and managed a giggle as I imagined tickling you behind both ears.

By this time, your internal organs were in a severe state of flux but the metamorphosis from man to machine was made somewhat more acceptable to me knowing that you already had a four-chambered heart. Not exactly a 65-degree V-four built for superior agility and rear-wheel traction; but a ventricle system none the less. The expansive network of veins that once moved blood beneath your flesh morphed into a fly-by-wire throttle system with double overhead camshafts. Your atria now variable-length intake ducts, and a total of eight fuel injectors. Your blood as pure and powerful a fuel as the god Inari could bestow upon a pious farmer.

Your lungs of course, were reconfigured 4 into 2 into 1 with a single oxygen sensor. And the rest of your respiratory system was now simply one lateral silencer with an engine unit-controlled butterfly valve and integrated trivalent catalytic converter. You now weighed 395 pounds – dry.

Now that the conversion was complete, I reveled in the pure joy that was the melding of your soul to the bike beneath me. Although some would say you became mon objet d’amour, you were in every sense still utterly in control. All I could do was hold on. It was different all alone on the front. The wind lashed out, seeking penance for my sins. It didn’t ask my permission and there was no safety word to stop it. As the RSV4, you sensed my boundaries and slowed into a turn to deflect the pressure. On the downshift, your newfound voice sent a tingle from my toes to my tits with a deep, penetrating rumble gnash before hitting the perfect note in the space between my hips where my clit rubbed against the hard leather inseam of my new riding gear. I hoped it never softened.

Your mouth seemed to swallow whole parts of the road in lurching gulps as we lunged forward into the abyss that was 177bhp and 85lb ft. of torque. It was all I could do to bow my head and kiss the tank where I once felt your heart beat too fast to be human. You reared up like a wild stallion at that moment and I knew no one would ever tame you. This only served to make me more excited. I easily compared my exaltation to the day all emperors descended from the sun goddess who formed the islands of Japan in her womb and birthed them from a cloud. You were man, machine and manga legend all rolled into one.

O vídeo que escolhi é o clássico “Another Brick in the Wall”, de 1979.

I would never even dream of attempting to discuss if my brain is different from Francy’s. I studied literature instead of biology for many reasons. I do however get quite a good laugh over the little things which are different about both of us. The things which often leave me shaking my head or doing everything humanly possible to expose Francy to something I feel he’s missing out on.

Music-Sadly we do not have the same tastes in music. The radio doesn’t count since I don’t think anyone really enjoys listening to the radio as in “Wow, I can’t wait to get home and blast a little R102.9 FM!” What’s always struck me as strange is the fact that I lean more towards guy music Metallica, Motley Crue, AC/DC while Francy likes wuss rock. Oh sure, he claims that as a young man he liked Pink Floyd, yet he’s never watched The Wizard of Oz while listening to Dark Side of the Moon. I can assure you all that it was a true feat not to chuckle (we’d just started to get serious, so it was a definite no-no) when he told me that the theme to Chariots of Fire* was THE most beautiful song ever recorded. The best thing I could think of to steer him in the right direction was playing Mr Roboto and teaching him some robot dance moves.

*Point well made. It is a lovely and inspiring film, but like most songs which have been over-used ad nauseum, it lost its cache years ago.

Clothing-I like black. I don’t like most colors as far as clothing goes because I find them unflattering. I don’t feel that a skirt is more “elegant” and the reason why sales clerks treat me like dirt when I go shopping. Since I allow Francy to believe that pleated pants and boat shoes are still reasonable fashion choices, I put the kibosh on critiquing my wardrobe.

Food-By food I specifically mean sweets. The most common complaint when I bake something is that it’s “too sweet”. Um, it’s a cookie for Pete’s sake!!!! This complaint is especially confusing when you see Francy create the following summertime dessert for himself:

Ingredients: strawberries, granulated sugar, spray can whipped cream

Recipe: Wash fruit, slice and sprinkle with sugar, top (and generously I might add) with whipped cream and sprinkle more sugar on top to make the whipped cream “crunchy”.

I really do love you babe, but can you see where a gal could get confused?

Next time-Tanti auguri as we head into the Christmas season.

In a stunning development, NASA has discovered a 1960s-era marijuana bong on the far side of the moon. The device was discovered when NASA sent a probe up to the surface of the moon in order to find out whether the moon’s surface contains signifigant amounts of water. They were stunned to see a Grateful Dead-themed marijuana smoking device in one of the moon’s many craters.

“It’s incredible,” Said Anthony Culverson, one of the moon probe technicians, “I knew lots of people were getting high in the 1960s, but I didn’t know they were getting THIS high!” He said before getting an emphatic high five from one of his co-workers. One of the many theories as to how the bong got there is that a moon-bound astronaut took the device with him on the voyage and planted it on the moon during a moonwalk during the 60s and 70s, as a joke. Other theories involve aliens, “karma”, out of body experiences and/or ESP.

“Pink Floyd was trying to tell us something, man.” Deadbeat dad, and Greatful Dead deadhead, Ted “Deadted” Nedved said, “It’s pretty obvious, I mean, it was found on the Dark Side of the Moon? The name of one of their albums? They smoked grass man, and if you believe in transubstantiation like I do, anything is possible.”

October turned out to be a busy month, and an un-busy month at the same time. I had my busking perm

October turned out to be a busy month, and an un-busy month at the same time. I had my busking permit, valid for a month, and I played three times in the Murray Street mall before I decided my guitar/amp combo just wasn’t working out. My battery amp was showing up problems – I reckon it needs a preamp between the effects pedal and the car audio amp, the sound was progressively getting boomier and “fuzzy” in the middle probably due to impedance mismatch. The guitar was also showing up problems, the bass response was quite poor.

It was a really useful experience though; firstly it proved to me that I do in fact like playing to an audience, and that I have the ability to “muddle my way through” the songs I know (yep, there were plenty of errors, but you just play through). The “stress test” on using my equipment in a gig scenario showed fundamental problems which I’m on my way to rectifying.

On the home made solar powered battery amp, even after all these years of effort, I decided to scrap it and just buy one from a manufacturer. 5 or 6 years ago when I started this project, you couldn’t buy a battery amp, nobody was making them. Today you can walk into a music store and test out several all made by different manufacturers, different price ranges, different features – and most cost less than my home made one and sounded better!

On the guitar side, I pulled off the saddle and made a new bone one. Which made the pickup balance worse! After trying several different things I decided to give the guitar to some experts and let the professionals fix it. 3 weeks later and it came back much better, but it still wasn’t “perfect”. After the last year or so of experimenting with sound I know what I expect from a guitar pickup and amp, and now I want what I expect So I’m still working on it – after seeing what the professionals did and thinking about the physics of the situation I reckon I’m on the right track…

At the moment I’m selling one house and buying another, the big move in around 2 weeks. I think a combination of that stress, and poor diet – my fingernails have gone weak, over the month I smashed up my thumbnail and middle finger on separate occasions, which for someone who plays on nails is really, really, really annoying. So in between the guitar being in the shop and having short nails there wasn’t much guitar playing the tail end of the month. (If I crack a nail, I will cut and file it down to the crack, and then cut and file all the others to the same level. The only thing worse than cracking a nail is having the other fingers with long nails and one with a short nail!)

I think I’ve mentioned it but I have been jamming with a fantastic drummer on a Sat morning while our kids are in music classes. I play my fingerstyle and he drums along to it. He’s got a real ear for the drums, once he’s heard a song on the radio he pretty much knows the “feel” of the drumming in that song, so when I pull out a song he hasn’t even heard for 10 years his drumming still sounds just like the original song! He’s more of an rocker-from-way-back than me; the stuff I play is a bit quieter than what he’s used to, but he puts up with me.

Unfortunately with the house move, there is only two jam sessions left! I’m very disappointed, it is the guitaring highlight of the week. It has shown me that solo performances might be well and good, but when you are working with someone else it can be even better. The chic who teaches our kids has had a listen to us before; in fact she is a singer, last week she came in while we were doing some pink floyd and it turns out she loves Dark Side of the Moon. I cast out a challenge to her – brush up on “Great Gig in the Sky” and sing it for us next week…tomorrow! A very challenging vocal solo, I’m looking forward to seeing how she goes. I will record the session on the iphone, if it comes out alright I’ll put some mp3s somewhere.

Finally, while we are on the subject, I have been putting a bit more effort into my Dark Side of the Moon project. Once or twice a week I play Breathe-Time-Breathe Reprise-Great Gig in the Sky back to back, ie side A of the album minus “On the Run” which I don’t even know if you could come up with anything on guitar. Breathe & Breathe Reprise I have been playing for a few years now so they are done and dusted, in fact I’ve tarted up the bassline a bit so it sounds great. Time I have a good resolve for the intro (not the alarm clocks though!) with some bongo drum playing on the body. I haven’t bothered with the solo yet; at the moment I’ve cut my DSotM project back to “just the basics”, as the years go by I’ll add to it – for now I think it is better to get stuff finished to a certain level rather than aim for 100% and never actually get there. Great Gig in the Sky on the other hand needs to have a solo, it is the essence of the song, at the moment I am half improvising but I have the groundwork laid so sometime soon I will complete a near-enough rendition of the vocal solo and call it done.

In the meantime, when I’ve got the guitar pickup balanced and my nails have grown back somewhat, I think I’ll record a video of DSotM side A for YouTube. It will be rough and a bit unfinished, but I haven’t posted anything for 3 months and my fan base is dropping!

And now for something completely whacked out. Here is a song by The Alan Parsons Project married up

And now for something completely whacked out.

Here is a song by The Alan Parsons Project married up with an old short movie by Orson Welles. Wow, what a find! The song is “Psychobabble” and is one of my all-time favorites. I had thoughts about sharing the song here on the blog and during my search I found this piece of classic weirdness on YouTube. The movie is called “Hearts of Age” and is actually the first movie ever made by Welles, dating way back to when he was only 19 in 1934.

Prior to striking out on his own Parsons’ first musical project was a little album called “Abbey Road” by a group called The Beatles. (Perhaps you’ve heard of it.) Parson’s received production credit on that album and others that followed including “Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd. Eventually Parsons struck out to do his own thing. His first album was released as The Alan Parsons Project and called “Tales of Mystery and Imagination” and featured musical interpretations of the writings of Edgar Allen Poe.

Enjoy!

via The Dark Side of Planet Earth on Vimeo.

I just thought this was a cool mashup example. It goes back to that old Pink Floyd sync coincidence ala Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon, which works perfectly BTW if you start the album at the MGM second lion roar. Anyway it makes perfect sense that developers should find ways to allow creatives to use their tools and sites to make new things. We all gain from sharing ideas and tools whether technologically, socially, or mentally. Mashups can gather so much power together in a single tool that can help us see data in a whole new way that has the possibility to create whole new technologies, philosophies, social movements, even efficient government. Currently we are seeing a movement of mashups that utilize government data for use by companies and individuals for research or better allocation of funds in a way that is revolutionary in how we use data to alter our living spaces or social fabric.

I watched a short documentary on the making of Dark Side of the Moon and I have to say I was riveted

I watched a short documentary on the making of Dark Side of the Moon and I have to say I was riveted.

I’m not one of those people who remembers the first time they listened to the album. I’m definitely not part of the generation that was around during its release. Despite these things, Dark Side of the Moon is still my favorite album of all time. The documentary, specifically interviews with songwriter Roger Waters, highlighted the driving emotional force behind the whole entire album. Up to this point, I don’t think I could have put my finger on why I love it so much, but it’s painfully obvious now. Listening to Dark Side of the Moon can be an experience – an experience that I rarely get when I listen to music.

What does Dark Side of the Moon have to do with writing? Why am I putting this on a blog about my writing? Because Dark Side paints a vivid atmosphere and a mood that’s driven entirely by emotion – a range of emotions, actually. Amazingly, this is accomplished without a narrative story (unlike, say, The Wall). Instead, emotion builds through each track (there’s no real stoppage between songs) with the music and lyrics combining to express its themes. With the addition of audio manipulation, sound effects, and vocal performance, Dark Side forces its will onto the listener. It’s simultaneously universal and personal. As I watched the members of Pink Floyd talk about the huge number of elements that came together (often quite randomly), I couldn’t help but compare the process to how a film gets produced.

Embracing the combination of a vast number of elements, from equally varied sources, to express and enhance a given concept – Yeah, I think I could do with some of that in my writing.

Dark Side of the Moon stayed on the billboard charts for 741 weeks – the longest of any album. That’s fourteen years. And it’s apparently the exact length it takes to write a blog post.

And no…I’ve never listened to it high.

<One-shot> A pocas horas de regresar del ultimo -Miércoles-Jueves (30 de sep.- 1 de octubre)en

<One-shot>

Regresamos, cenamos y me fui a dormir.

Mi pierna me duele…

El agua fría ayudara…

Otro ataque de nervios…

Leeré un rato…

<Parte IV me despedí>

</parte VII me despedí>

</One-Shot>

Flaming Lips anunciou que o próximo disco é a regravação total do Dark Side od the Moon (1973) do Pi

Flaming Lips anunciou que o próximo disco é a regravação total do Dark Side od the Moon (1973) do Pink Floyd.

Estou falando do The Charque Side of the Moon.
