Was lange währt, wird endlich gut… oder zumindest besser als schlecht. Endlich ist das Musikvideo zu meinem neuen Song “Dance into Death” fertig und hochgeladen. Blöder Weise sind Bild- und Tonspur beim Hochladen leicht gegeneinander verschoben worden. Und auch nach mehrmaligem Hochladen ließ sich das nicht ändern. Das ist natürlich gerade bei einem Musikvideo ziemlich blöd.

Die Handlung ist nicht sonderlich anspruchsvoll, aber was soll’s:
Zwei Leute spazieren durch den Wald und finden eine alte Ruine. Als sie diese berühren geht ein Fluch auf sie über, der die Kontrolle über ihre Körper übernimmt und sie zum Tanzen zwingt. Es ist ein Tanz bis zur völligen Erschöpfung – ein Tanz in den Tod.

Ich wollte mich mal wieder an einer neuen Musikrichtung ausprobieren und herausgekommen ist diesmal eine Art Gothic-Techno. Aber das Video bzw. das Lied endlos lange zu beschreiben bringt ja auch nichts. Am besten einfach mal reinschauen!

Eines habe ich während der Arbeiten am Video in Bezug auf die Suche nach meinen Talenten feststellen dürfen: Tanzen gehört definitiv nicht dazu.

The Bravery es una banda Estado Unidense que a ganado bastante fama por su 2 discos que tiene hasta el momentos,y por sus continuas peleas y discusiones con sus compatriotas The Killers, que cave destacar que tienen un sonido que siempre se ha dicho que son similares, ahora “The Bravery” luego de un descanso bastante largo a decidido lanzar su tercer álbum que tendrá de nombre “Stir The Blood” y saldrá a la venta el próximo 1 de diciembre, y según el cantante de la banda, si bien las letras tienen un toque mas oscuro su música sigue siendo bastante optimista, y por eso hoy les dejo el disco para que ustedes mismos, lo juzguen, a mi personalmente me parece que tienen un toque mas electrónico, y les queda muy bien, no son una maravilla pero, para pasar el tiempo, están muy bien…

The Dodoz es una banda Francesa con sede en Toulouse, y la han formado en el año 2006, esta integrada por Geraldine Baux (voz, bajo), Jules Cassignol (guitarra), Vincent Argiolas (guitarra) y Adrien Cassignol (batería). Su música es bastante entretenida, y toma elementos del indie mas clásico de la ultima década , así como también bastante post punk, y algo de garage y punk, que por lo menos a mi me termina sonando a “The Strokes con cantante femenina y un poco mas oscuros”, hasta el día de hoy tan solo tienen un album Lp, llamado simplemente “the dodoz”, el álbum acaba de salir a principios de este mes de noviembre y esta muy bueno, por lo menos en las primeras escuchadas, después ya depende de ustedes si se aburren o no…

Ich setze mich jetzt sofort wieder an die Arbeit.

I’ve wanted to go to Europe for a very long time. I find myself becoming extremely jealous when I hear other people’s tales of backpacking and European adventures. Oz and I often discuss going to Scotland so he can visit his home country — his mother’s maiden name is Dewar, as in Dewar’s scotch whiskey.

It was a strange morning, yet kind of normal for us. We listened to Darkwave, VNV Nation, and Johnny Vicious house mixes while I made breakfast. Then, Oz brought up Wave Gotik Treffen, the world’s largest festival for “dark culture,” which takes place in Leipzig, Germany every May 21-24.

Upon first glance, it looks like a Hot Topic festival.

But this is the real deal, folks.

At Wave Gotik Treffen, there are a variety of people. From Victorian Goths to gutter punks, to steampunks, there’s a little something for everyone. But it’s not just about the clothes and make-up, it’s about the music. WGT offers more than 150 bands and artists from various backgrounds  such as Gothic rock, EBM, Industrial, Noise, Darkwave, Neofolk, Neoclassical, Medieval Music, Experimental, Gothic metal, Deathrock and Punk.

Oz and I are both kind of scared of the festival, but we’re also very intrigued. I’d love to go experience something completely different like that, if only for the fact that I could blog about it after. Plus, Oz looks great in eyeliner.

She Wants Revenge é uma dupla norte-americana dark wave formada pelos DJ’s Justin Warfield e Adam “Adam 12” Bravin em 2oo3, em Los Angeles e só apenas 3 anos depois lançaram o primeiro álbum auto-intitulado que traz um som inteiramente novo e meio perverso. Luego de casi 4 años sin noticia alguna, la mítica banda Danesa, “Kashmir” a dicho que su proximo album sera lanzado en febrero del año que viene, mas precisamente el 1 de febrero. Aunque todavia nisiquiera se conoce el nombre o el tracklist, lo unico que se conoce es el primer sencillo de ese futuro álbum, el sencillo solo esta disponible para comprar en Dinamarca, y se llama Mouthful of Wasps, la verdad una muy buena canción, con algunos toques mas electrónicos de lo que nos tenían acostumbrados…

Customs es una banda proveniente de Belgica formada por 4 amigos que han conseguido gran fama en Belgica y en Europa en general, por la critica siempre han sido comparados con bandas The House of Love, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Sound, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry y Cocteau Twins, aunque también ahí influencias de the cure, joy division, y de algunos mas contemporáneos como interpol o editors, aunque si tuviera que comparar su sonido con algo mas especifico en ves de mil influencias, por lo menos a mi me suena similar a la banda Finlandesa “The Orders”, luego de varios singles con los que fueron acumulando éxito se decidieron a grabar su álbum debut, al que le pusieron de nombre”Enter The Characters”, el álbum fue lanzado el 26 de octubre apenas pasado y han conseguido un gran éxito, y merecido lo tienen…

Para mi la definición mas acertada con esta banda llamada “Hearts Of Black Science” seria pop espacial, o atmosferico como suelen llamarlo, esta banda esta formada por Daniel Anghede (Voz, Guitarra, Bajo) y Tomas Almgren (teclados, programaciones y ritmos), osea son tan solo un dúo que así y todo hacen música sorprendente, que si le ponemos una definición mas complicada para poder hacerse una idea de su música, para mi se los podría describir como “Shoegaze de lo mas ensoñador con elementos electronicos, un toquesito post punk y mucha oscuridad”, su album debut fue lanzado exactamente el 2 de abril del 2007 y se llama “ The Ghost You Left Behind”, a lo que le siguió una gran gira Europea por ese magnifico álbum, luego este 15 de octubre apenas pasado fue lanzado su segundo álbum que es prácticamente otra obra maestra a la que le pusieron de nombre “The Star In The Lake”, sin duda dentro de lo que se puede catalogar como “Dream Pop” de lo mejor del año, por una atmósfera oscura y misteriosa, pero con melodias dulces y melancólicas, que se dan el lujo hasta de tener temas épicos y casi perfectos como Gold And Dust, espero que a todos les guste tanto como a mi, ahh y por cierto si alguien se pregunta de donde son, solo como dato queda decir que son de Gotemburgo, Suecia, valla casualidad Suecia devuelta…

Creo que hoy al frente de todos los que leen este blog de porquería, me declaro fan de The Mary Onettes por que con este segundo disco(ya era hora de que se filtrara) estan reafirmando lo hecho en su primer álbum y sinceramente como ellos mismos dijeron están haciendo prácticamente un alargue a su primer disco solo que este es un poco mas épico y oscuro, y si, uno puede escuchar las influencias de bandas como echo and the bunnymen, the cure y hasta the smiths pero a diferencia de las bandas de hoy en dia que parecen simples imitadores estos Suecos siempre tratan de encontrar una identidad y generalmente lo logran, con este disco simplemente magnifico que me llena de alegría y de melancolía a  la vez y que sigue demostrando que Gran Bretaña no son los únicos que pueden hacer buena música, sinceramente magnifico, la verdad son muy grandes estos chicos, geniales…

Und direkt mal der nächste oldschoolige Dark Wave Titel. Ich kann garnicht sagen wie fett ich das finde, dass diese Musikrichtung wieder zu ihren Wurzeln tendiert.

Screaming Lights es una banda del noroeste de Liverpool, obiamente en Inglaterra, la banda esta compuesta por Alan Breen (bajo), James Connor (bateria), Max Goldberg (guitarra) y James Treadell (voz y guitarra). La banda tiene un sonido que generalmente es llamado post punk o mas que nada new wave les sienta mejor por su música, melodías tristes y directas con guitarras filosas y una batería que sinceramente para mi, me parece impresionante, la banda se ha formado en el año 2005 aunque recien a finales de 2008 y principios de 2009 empezaron a llamar la atención de todos, participando de grandes festivales, recibieron comparaciones de bandas como interpol o editors, aunque a mi me parece “una especie de editors mas rockeros mezclados con kasabian”, jaja aunque seguramente nadie va a compartir mi opinión, y una de las criticas mas acertadas por lo menos para mi es la comparación con Placebo, que es a lo que yo quería llegar mas o menos un rock bastante crudo pero melodioso. Su único álbum o sea su debut fue lanzado hace a penas unos días y se llama “Like Angels”, a demás envesde dejarles un vídeo de una de sus canciones les dejo un cover hecho por ellos a la canción ”End Of A Century” de blur para que vean lo buenos que son, y si o si bajen el disco…

Gran Ronde es una banda de Los Ángeles, Estados Unidos formada en el año 2004 y que a pesar de ser Yankees su estilo esta entre el indie rock y el post punk al mejor estilo Británico, y a pesar de que el post punk en estos días ya este demasiado quemado nunca viene mal una banda como esta, a mi personalmente me recuerda a bandas como boy kill boy, the cinematics, apartment, y hasta un poco a the bravery y un poquito mas chiquito a the killlers, aunque según los críticos todo lo que dice post punk, y todo lo que encasillan en ese genero tiene que ser super parecido a joy division, interpol y editors(por nombrar algunos), y si tienen influencias pero solo se quedan en eso.Su unico album fue lanzado el 8 de julio en el Reino Unido y se llama “Secret Rooms”, el álbum esta compuesto de diez temas super melódicos, melancólicos, emocionantes, oscuros y por sobre todo eso, buenísimos. Espero que a ustedes también le guste.

Hatifnats es una banda, la cual va a ser la primera que se ponga en el blog que venga de donde ellos vienen, ya que son de Varsobia, Polonia, la banda esta formada por Michal Pydo(voz, guitarra), Mariusz Lesniewski(batería) y Adam Jedynak (Bajo), la banda se formo en el año 2006, justo cuando iba a empezar 2007, la banda hace según la critica una música similar al del shoegaze y dream pop de finales de los 80s y principios de los 90s en Reino Unido, aunque por lo menos para mi tiene bastante aire post punk y new wave, y la voz del  cantante(que parece mujer) me recuerda a la del cantante de la banda The Coral Sea, y personalmente su sonido me recuerda a la banda ya presentada en el blog llamada Light In Your Life, su único álbum fue lanzado el 25 de septiembre y fue llamado Before It Is Too Late, un gran album, disfrútenlo, sin duda para mi la mejor banda Polaca que conozco…

Diese Entwicklung lob’ ich mir. Tonnen von Indiebands haben in den letzten Jahren in ihren Referenzen auf Dark- und New-Wave Bands verwiesen, in jüngster Zeit fangen einige Künstler auch damit an tatsächlich wie ihre Urväter zu klingen. Ein gutes Beispiel dafür sind z.B. O.Children, die seit diesem Jahr mit ihrem Song Dead Disco Dancer die Runde machen.

Jetzt höre ich auf Stereogum diesen Song, Mild Confusion,  von Tamaryn, die mir bisher noch überhaupt nicht bekannt waren. Würde ich es ohne vorherige Infos hören, würde ich ohne zu zögern auf die 80er tippen. Die seichte Shoegazer-Lärmigkeit im Hintergrund, der Joy Division Basslauf, das monotone, snarebetonte Schlagzeug, ein alles überlagerndes Delay, ja, könnten auch Siouxsie & The Banshees sein. Ist aber Tamaryn und nötigt mich mir unbedingt mehr davon zu besorgen.

Well, now my musings on industrial music totally made me reflect a bit on dark wave–a really great musical subgenre that rose out of New Wave.

Dark Wave bands such as the Cure, Clan of Xymox, Depeche Mode, and Siouxsie and the Banshees fit the New Wave mold but they were generally not a bright and happy lot. They were all about getting your heart ripped to shreds and scary, sneaky psychological things that could go bad for you.

Hence dark wave bands were in a way the direct opposite of New Romantic bands–those who used the form and substance of New Wave music to pontificate on, well, romantic stuff. (Depeche Mode interesting traveled the spectrum, starting out as a New Romantic band with Speak and Spell and transforming into a dark wave band by the time of Black Celebration.)

Interestingly, however, dark wave remains a subset of New Wave and therefore is not goth music, although many goths embrace and enjoy dark wave. Goth rock is a subgenre of post-punk music, which is rock music (not pop). Here, too, we have to consider the lines carefully. Siousxie and the Banshees created some goth rock music while the Cure did not. Before going more synth, the Cure were a post-punk band that crossed into dark wave when they went to the New Wave side. Siouxsie–perhaps more simply–oscilated between the dark sides of both post-punk and New Wave from the start.

Industrial music, on the other hand, is deliberately abrasive and holds little in common stylistically with smooth dancy dark wave. Today, a combined goth/industrial scene exists in cities that are too small to have their own individual goth and industrial scenes (like Washington, DC…). It seems to me that dark wave is largely tolerated but not really embraced by the DC goth/industrial crowd.

Note that Wasteland (held at Jimmy Valentine’s the last Friday of every month) bills itself as DC’s only all-goth party and as such it eschews industrial music. Spellbound (held every Saturday at Recessions) considers itself more encompassing and plays some goth rock while largely focusing on industrial music.

Se acaba de filtrar otro de los discos mas esperados de este 2009, y es el tercer disco de los Inglesitos, Editors, la banda liderada por Tom Smith tiene previsto que el lanzamiento del album sea el proximo 12 de Octubre, segun ellos mismos dijieron el album tiene un sonido mucho mas crudo, que en mi opinion los hace parecerse aun mas a Interpol, aunque por lo que ya e escuchado se nota que a pesar de ser mas crudo hay mas participacion de sintetizadores, y mas elementos New Wave, disfruten de otro de las grandes esperas de este año.

One of the better songs by neo-folk (pagan folk?) luminaries, Death in June, is the title track from their album, But What Ends When the Symbols Shatter? Besides this, my favorite album by them is the out-of-print classic, 93 Dead Sunwheels. The band is socially linked to the bands Coil, Current 93, Sol Invictus, Nurse With Wound, and The Legendary Pink Dots, and has also been an influence on many modern post-black metal bands.

The band is notoriously surrounded by controversy via their use of Nazi imagery, symbolism and motifs throughout their band history (never mind the long-standing alliance with ex-Neo-Nazi/Satanist, Boyd Rice). The band side-steps all accusations with press statements (Douglas P. is gay, our friends are Jewish, these songs are actually about something else, etc.) and claim to have no interest in actual white supremacist views.

This is actually all probably true, because the band is only interested, above all else, in being antagonistic, subversive, and emotionally manipulative (energy vampires!). So the controversy is intentional. A poor excuse for artistic integrity, but sometimes they write catchy tunes.

(Why the fuck am I posting this on Yom Kippur?)
