That’s right, the British are turning Japanese too according to Bloomberg:

Lending to companies fell by 4.6 billion pounds in September, sending the 12-month growth rate to its lowest since records began in 1999, the Bank of England said on Nov. 18. Many firms reported continued concerns over access to finance, the central bank said.

“If companies are heavily indebted and face uncertain times, the demand for borrowing will naturally fall off sharply,” said Geoffrey Wood, professor of economics at the Cass Business School in London and a former Bank of England adviser on financial stability. “I’m not at all surprised that bank lending to companies is down. Firms are trying to pay down their debt.”

Companies paying down debt?  Don’t tell Tim Geithner.  He’ll have none of it.  Geithner is hellbent on drowning borrowers- already up to their eyeballs in debt – with even more of the stuff.

But anyways, back across the pond:

“It is very important that each and every bank knows that there is someone looking over their shoulder,” Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling told journalists on July 27. “We will work intensively at chief executive level to make sure the availability of loans is maintained.”

Oh snap! Looks like Darling caught a mutant strand of H1N1: H1G1.  You know, the Geithnerized swine flu.  I wonder if he put his pinkie up to his lip a la Mike Myers as Dr. Evil after he said “shoulder.”  Or “maintained”…

But try as he might, Darling can’t make borrowers borrow more.  Maybe this has something to do with it:

British consumers, shouldering a record 1.46 trillion-pound debt burden, slightly greater than the country’s 1.45 billion pound annual gross domestic product, are also curbing borrowing. Consumer credit fell for a third month in September, by 262 million pounds, the Bank of England said on Oct. 29.

Forget about the oversight in fact checking/editing (I’m sure it’s GDP of 1.45 trillion, not billion), this is debt/GDP over 100%.  Nobody on Earth can borrow ad-infinitum and last time I checked, I don’t think God ever needed to borrow a penny.

To me, this seems to be part of a very painful learning process for a lot of people.  Some people didn’t learn that you pay debt down by actually sending payments in that cover more than the interest charges.  You have to repay the principal.  Rolling debt over is not the same as paying it off and I just don’t think a lot of folks got that idea until all of this hit.

So there you have it.  The British are showing signs of turning Japanese now, just like us.  Richard Koo’s book argues that expansionist fiscal policy by government is necessary and is the right move to make.

Frankly, I keep looking at this chart and I just don’t agree:

It’s so difficult to explain my love/hate relationship with the house of Chanel. I mean, there’s no denying it: mad props for the likes of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, who singlehandedly created a legacy for herself based on her self-taught designs and absolute drive for perfection. (My god, her designs were beautiful and classy.) And ever since then, her staple tweed jackets and suits have been twisted and turned for a variety of outfits, looks, and fashions. Chanel, as beautiful and wonderful and glamorous as y’are darlin’, sometimes I just have to wonder what the heck was Karl Lagerfeld thinking? I try to go into reviews as unbiased as I can, but with a name like Chanel, the standards are high and it’s rather easy to fall short sometimes. For this Spring collection, I get the vibe that Lagerfeld was channeling the 60’s.  Don’t get me wrong, some outfits I absolutely adore and would die for; but some, well some are just… not working to me.  (Note: the backdrop that the farmhouse setting gives is just marvelous. So much so, that some of the designs are rather drowned out, as opposed to emphasized like I think they meant it to be.) Below are a few favorites and few not-favorites. What do you beautifuls think?

Collette Dinnigan;

Starting off dark, then becoming light before closing with dark, Collete Dinnigan’s Spring collection is a thing to behold! It gives one a sense of optimism, the feeling that dark times will always pass. Not only are the sheer fabrics free and flowing, the outfits look rather comfortable. I think I need to find myself a pair of those sheer black tights.  The only no-no? The clearly visible boobies under the sheer fabrics; the effect is rather crude and detracts from the overall design.

So to end this rather lengthy blog (I apologize profusely) on Karl Lagerfeld and Collette Dinnigan, I tip my hat off to you my good people, for a noticeable Spring 2010 collection!

Golf and Mike are 2 Thai brothers who signed under Johnny’s Entertainment to promote themselves in Japan. gYm is made as a volleyball support for the volleyball team. They have this one single Fever to Future. Mike is soooo handsome and cute.!!

V6 is a group composed of obviously 6 people. Composed of members Junichi Okada, Miyake Ken, Morita Go, Sakamoto Masayuki, Inohara Yoshihiko, and Hiroshi Nagano. This group also reached their peak in their time of fame.This is the 1st JE group to become volleyball supporters. This was also the 1st JE group to have sub-groups. 20th Century is composed of the elder members namely Sakamoto, Inohara, and Hiroshi. The other sub-group Coming Century is composed of the younger members Ken, Go, and Junichi.
Yeah yeah, you may say that they are old now but! So love their songs! Darling? Do you know that song? The OST of Kimi wa PETTO was sung by them! Gokusen I’s song Feel Your Breeze was also from them!

TegoMass is a special group as well. The group is composed of the 2 vocals of NewS Tegoshi Yuya and Masuda Takahisa. Their group name is obviously a mash-up of their surnames. TegoMass is somehow also considered a sub-group of NewS and the group debuted in the middle of NewS’s hiatus. The special group was made to promote the agency in Switzerland and so they released a English single entitled Miso Soup. Later on they also released the Japanese version of it. They also sang OST’s of anime’s such as Lovely Complex. These boys are just pure heaven!

Mr Darling’s promise/threat to break up some of the high street retail banks is expected to bring some new banks to our high street. Will these be completely new brands or bolt-ons to existing institutions?

I have observed brands and brand management in the financial sector with mixed emotions, though the predominant emotion is probably ennui. The truth is that more retail bank brands will probably do little for the consumer unless someone is bold enough to come up with a seriously innovative and differentiated offer. What I fear is just another smaller clone of one of the existing banks.

I am sympathetic that there is little leeway for retail banks within the current environment – if the three possible directions of differentiation are price, product and service, there is no margin in price, I would suggest, so banks must look to the two other routes. Will we see some creative new products emerging from new business models? Perhaps new approaches to customer service and delivery will present exciting new brand offerings?

Banks have not been noted for the bright ideas springing from their fertile imaginations. ‘First Direct’ was a good idea which failed to capture the market’s imagination and was quickly put into the shadows by the growth of internet banking.  The web brought a raft of new approaches, but again failed to thrill.

Will this new opportunity bring fireworks or damp squibs?

Iain Dale, amongst others, is noting that Labour are possibly considering one of those poorly executed ‘attack ad’ poster campaigns that they’re partial to, and is asking his readers to submit their own ripostes…

Jag och mamma tog en liten tur med bilen utanför stan idag. Sneglade lite på en gård som jag fastnat för. Den ligger helt underbar till, inga grannar vägg i vägg, lagom långt från stan och har ett bra läge om man tänker häst.

Jag vill verkligen leva på en egen gård. Jag vill stiga upp klockan sex på morgonen, fast jag är så morgontrött, och kunna ge mina hästar mat alldeles själv. Jag struntar i semestrar (även om sånt alltid går att lösa vid tillfälle ändå) och jag vill kunna få bestämma själv. Nåja, en karl skulle väl inte skada, han kan få bestämma hälften.

Provade mina tävlingskläder idag och funderar på om jag ska sälja dom och köpa nya. Känns inte som att de passar min kropp egentligen, och förhoppningsvis blir dom snart förstora! Annars är dom ju skitfina, bara använda en gång.

Nu ska jag åka ut och göra iordning snuttan, för ikväll blir det Björsbyträning. Hon gick så fint igår så det ska bli riktigt roligt att rida idag. Kom och säg hej!

Jag har under min influensatid sett dokumentären Fyra decennier av sex som SVT har visat de senaste lördagarna. Den fick mig att fundera på analsex eftersom det är ett fenomen vars betydelse och värdering har skiftat totalt under bara tio års tid. Under slutet av 1990-talet drev tidningen Darling kampanjen Vägra Analsex. I kampanjen konstateras följande: analsex är överexponerat, analsex gör bara ont och kan inte framkalla någon njutning för tjejen samt att bara en liten klick av befolkningen (jämförbar med den lilla klick som sysslar med S&M) hänger sig åt analsex. Överallt talades det om hur oskyldiga tonårsflickor gick med på analsex eftersom deras pojkvänner ville ha det, Aftonbladet kallade in experter för att undersöka farorna med analsexet. Det talades om en ökning av skador på ringmuskeln på sjukhusen och andra hemskheter som var frukten av ökningen av analsex. Porrindustrin sågs som bovar i dramat.

Inom sexologin hör man ofta uttrycket “inget nytt under solen” i vårt fall innebär det att människor antagligen alltid experimenterat och haft analsex, det har bara inte varit något som man pratat om öppet. Jag kan komma på minst två kulturella (religiösa?) skäl till att man även tidigare haft analsex. Dels för att undvika graviditeter, dels av en tanke att behålla slidkransen intakt.

Idag låter det lite annorlunda. Hanna Fridéns svar 2008 på en fråga om analsex är mer präglat av en informativ ton och befinner sig långt borta från fördömandet under 1990-talet. Där Darling kanske problematiserade i lite väl hög grad finner vi istället 2008 en total avsaknad av densamme. Samma sak med Vecko Revyns analsexspecial som iofs väckte många upprörda röster, men inte från unga tjejer utan snarare från deras mammor (läste de Darling?). I Vecko Revyn möter vi 2008 följande punkter om analsex: information om varför man kan uppleva analsex som skönt samt hur man har analsex utan att skada sig.

Vi är alla barn av vår tid, varför vi tycker att vissa saker är tabu är ofta mer knutet till de kulturella strömningar som finns just nu än till fakta. Därför är information viktigt, därför är det viktigt att unga och gamla som funderar på vad analsex innebär och hur det går till kan få tillgång till den kunskapen. Unga människor kollar på porr och då har de redan sett analsex. De har däremot inte sett förberedelserna eller fått veta varför det fysiskt kan vara skönt eller göra ont. Det känns inte rätt att slakta Darling tio år efter att något skrivits, men jag vill uppmärksamma en sak som lever kvar hos vissa av oss nämligen synen på kvinnan som offer för mannens sexualitet. Att det är viktigt att lära unga tjejer att säga nej till alla hemskheter som män försöker tvinga dem till? Eftersom rädslan är för vad de säger ja till så föreslår jag att vi istället lär dem vad det är de kan säga ja till så får de själva ta beslutet.

Jag och Fitday har blivit bästa vänner. Det är lite krångligt att översätta allt till amerikanska hela tiden och förutom att deras tonfisk verkar innehålla fler kalorier o.dyl. än vad det står på min burk här hemma, så funkar det klockrent. Tänk att jag som alltid förut skrattat åt bantning och tyckt att “fan vad tråkigt livet skulle vara om man inte kunde äta vad man ville”, nu sitter här och räknar kalorier och jag kunde nog inte ha roligare. För det händer ju faktiskt saker och inget kunde vara mer sporrande!

Nu ska jag snart avsluta min alldeles för sena frukost och masa mig iväg till Östermalm för dagens promenad. Med tre hundar i släptåg, gaah. Sen ska jag ta en mystur med Hjärtat i skogen tror jag. För igår åkte vi iväg till Björsbyn och tränade för Krickan. Allt gick verkligen toppenbra, hon skötte sig jättebra i transporteringen och i nytt stall och ridhus. Jag är så stolt! Sen att ridningen faktiskt gick riktigt bra också, förutom att jag inte orkar. Ännu mera sporre för mig!
