Start seeing things for what they really are As of late, I’ve been noticing a trend with peopl

Start seeing things for what they really are

As of late, I’ve been noticing a trend with people; their afraid of reality. There are people walking around medicated, intoxicated, abusing any possible thing that you can become addicted to from sex to food, and living in fantasy, all to escape reality. Romantic novels (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/28/romance-novel-sales-boomi_n_208796.html) and movie sales are still doing fairly well because people are trying to get a glimpse of fantasy and escape reality. The media is placing blame on the recession, but this problem existed far before the economy collapsed. The problem is a cycle, not a impulse of the times issue. What ever happened to seeing things for what they really are?

We all need an escape from reality sometimes. Those escapes are things such as vacations, get a ways, spas, resorts, cruises or anything of that nature. The purpose of all of those things is to give your body and mind relaxation. That relaxation primarily happens because all of the things listed are an escape from reality. There are a great deal of people who hate their jobs, hate going to school, or hate whatever situation that they are in majority of their week. Maybe their in a relationship that has issues and they want to escape, maybe their life is in crises, or maybe they experienced a loss. People often tend to run from reality. Facing reality is one of the most difficult task that humans have to face in life. They hedge facing reality by making excuses instead of confronting reality head on. There are people who are afraid to confront reality, so instead they sway between any of the above listed escapes. This problem often leads to addictions, and those are hard to escape.

Start seeing things for what they really are

When is the last time you faced, confronted, and handled reality sober? Have you ever accomplished that task? These questions are asked because we are creating an ongoing problem by not facing and confronting reality. Escapes are necessary and good, but when you are creating escapes on a daily basis it should tell you a lot about your views on facing reality. You’re scared of reality, then you create an addiction, then the addiction becomes reality, but in order to escape that reality (addiction) you create another addiction. Seeing things for what they really are and dealing with them as is are the best ways to confront reality. If you do this, you will find that your reality in itself can be an escape from reality because you acknowledge it. Remember, just because you acknowledge your reality does not mean that you cannot improve it. In fact, the first step to improving your reality is acknowledging it. You cannot improve upon something that you escape, you escape your current reality by acknowledgment and finding solutions to improve it.

Hello all,

I will be posting official results for the Indy Challenge 2009 pairs competition on our club website at
http://www.iwsafsc.org/indy_chal_2009.htm.

NOTE: Fridays events (Senior and Junior Pairs Short Programs) likely won’t be posted until 10 p.m. EDT. I have to leave the competition to go coach at another rink right near the end of the Senior Pairs Short Program, so please be patient.

Saturday & Sunday’s events:
I spoke with one of the accountants Jay, and he will try to e-mail me the official results as soon as they are posted at the rink. I’ll be upstairs in the competition rink chained to the music/announcing booth all weekend, so it may take me a few minutes to get them formatted for the web.

So all of you parents back at home, friends, family, and friends should get them quite quickly! (Unlike Skate Detroit… where are those results, BTW?).

LIST OF COMPETITIORS: http://www.iwsafsc.org/competitions.html

Okay… off to bed. We just finished setting up the rink, and I have an earlllllllly day since I plan to set up the sound equipment before Senior Pairs begin their practice at 8:30 a.m. Everyone in general was looking GREAT from what bits of skating I could see as I helped set up the rink. Plus it’s always fun to have Dalilah Sappenfield, Jim Peterson, Jenni Meno, Ron Ludington, and other wander around the rink.

PS: If any fans are posting reports from the competition, please post some links for me. I’ll be watching but not writing up reports or anything since I’ll be busy doing music/announcing all weekend…

Energy-efficient lighting investments are starting to trickle back onto the scene after cleantech de

Energy-efficient lighting investments are starting to trickle back onto the scene after cleantech deals plunged in the first quarter. On Tuesday, Braemar Energy Ventures raised its bet on lighting with a $10 million investment in Hawthorne, Calif.-based Fulham Inc., a 7-year-old company that makes components for fluorescent lights, high-intensity lights and light-emitting diodes.

The deal comes just over a month after plasma lighting startup Luxim Corp., based in Sunnyvale, Calif., raised $12 million and Austin, Texas-based Nuventix, which has developed an electronics-cooling technology for LED lights, raised $4 million of an $18 million round.

To investors, the potential for growth in the energy-efficient lighting sector is clear. It’s poised for a boost from legislation, which could enhance the existing appeal of lower electricity bills. (Lighting accounts for about a quarter of U.S. electricity use, with most of that coming from commercial buildings, according to the Energy Information Administration.)

The United Kingdom began a voluntary phase-out of 100-watt incandescent light bulbs at the beginning of this year and Australia passed an incandescent-bulb ban that begins in 2010. Meanwhile, the United States requires bulbs to be 25-30 percent more energy efficient starting in 2012, for 100-watt bulbs, and in 2014, for 40-watt bulbs, with both reaching 70 percent higher efficiency by 2020.

The stimulus package also is expected to boost the efficient-lighting market. Lighting isn’t specifically named in the package, but is expected to be included in projects that will make public buildings, including federal buildings, public housing and schools, more efficient.

Fulham is the fourth lighting company Braemar has backed in the last two years, along with Nuventix; Laser Light Engines, a laser-based lighting startup that closed $5 million last year; and Luminus Devices, an LED company that closed $72 million last year.

Braemar sees energy-efficient lighting as a key investment area, said managing director Dennis Costello, who spends almost all of his time on lighting plays these days. The four deals represent about 15 percent of the company’s cleantech investments, he said. But he added that the percentage will likely subside as the company closes a few more deals in other sectors.

Fulham makes ballasts, which regulate the electrical voltage and current needed to operate fluorescent lights, high-intensity lights and LEDs. The Darnell Group, a research firm, expects the global ballast market to grow to $11 billion from $6.5 billion over the next five years.

Fulham hopes to help the market move from incandescent bulbs to fluorescent lighting, and eventually to more efficient — and today, much more expensive — light-emitting diodes. The company plans to use its new cash to develop new products for LED and induction lighting, which use a magnetic field to create light, a spokesperson said.

The approaching addition of a second child causes a realization that we are really and truly a part of that wonderful institution known as a FAMILY. Hence, we begin this endeavor to keep you updated with our most current status in life as frequently as possible!

Reese is two days from being the ripe old age of 9 months! She decided to pick up a few hobbies and past times the past few weeks:

Speed-crawling, standing up, getting tangled up in stuff and getting into everything within 4 feet of her reach.

Paper (of any variety) is currently a choice delicacy and bumped heads, scraped fingers and bruises are becoming colorful additions to her body on a regular basis. On a good note: these are learning bumps, scrapes and bruises. She does not (yet) appear to have inherited her mother’s clumsiness and lack of average motor skills. Her current lexicon includes such words as “da-da,” “duh” (usually not used in the same breath with da-da….), “maaammmmm” (which I hope refers to me) and “Aber” which we figure is the shortened version of Aberdeen. “Five” also came out one day when Baby Einstein said it first, and there are a lot of gurgles, squeaks and coos as well. In all, she is an extremely happy and fun baby to have around!

Baby #2 will get name recognition VERY soon – May 9 actually! We are always happy to put a name to a kicking, squirming inner-baby and are thankful for that bit of technology! (Thank you, Dr. Robert Rines!) On May 9, we will hopefully know whether we’re to expect Jude Quincy Arenton or Grey Serenity Allison! In the meantime, this one has been very nice to mommy and has not given her a bit of the normal pregnancy woes in all 19 weeks!

Joseph continues to work hard as the creative web designer and content manager for American Vision. He puts his whole heart into it, and if I do say so, he is marvelously talented at what he does. In spare time, he is helping his brother with a children’s book and writing his own personal blog. When the book project is complete, he plans to finish up his Rainbow training to begin distributing one of the most marvelous products we’ve ever encountered! We catch our moments together as much as we can, and spend many enjoyable evenings strolling around the Avenue and sitting in Barnes and Noble.

As for me (Liz) – I had to stop working my part-time hours at AV when I took a tumble over a box when I lost my balance turning on a ceiling fan (no, I was not standing on it, I just lost my balance and fell). The broken wrist that ensued couldn’t be set in the ER (after 5 hours of waiting) because of pregnancy. They referred us to Pinnacle and since a family friend of Joseph’s works at a Pinnacle, we begged to get in to see him. He was unable to set it because I started to hyperventilate, thus contracting all muscles, because of the pain when he started to mess with it. Hence, we had to have it set in surgery while I was under General Anesthesia. Yes, we are getting plenty of medical bills now to thoroughly wallpaper a small house. :-| However, even if we had insurance, we would still be under the outrageously high deductible so it would have been out of pocket anyway. It all works out in the end, thankfully – if we didn’t believe in a sovereign God life would be pretty depressing! So a week after it broke it was set and within 2 days, little pain is left and I just have to get used to life with 1 hand for 6 weeks! That is the hardest part. My mom is here helping out with Reese til I am back to normal and can actually DO stuff again!

So there is our lives this week! Check back again soon!

My wife Liz, affectionately pet-named Peach, is four months pregnant with our second child. Reese, o

My wife Liz, affectionately pet-named Peach, is four months pregnant with our second child. Reese, our first born, it eight months old, and for most people it seems the babies were/will be born too close together. Liz and I are well-adapted to the idea of children as we were both home educated and spent lots of time with our siblings growing up. We both had good Christian upbringings and were taught children are a blessing. When we learned that we would have Reese about a year and a half after we married we couldn’t have been more happy. We are glad to be parents and raise children to the best of our ability.

When we learned a second child was on the way, we had to rethink our lives a bit sooner than we’d planned. Well, we hadn’t had plans to have our second child as so soon after Reese was born, but it was not an inconvenience whatsoever. It did mean we would need to change priorities in our budget and jobs at this time. Liz and I both knew we wanted Liz to work from home with the children when the second child came along, so now was the time for her to leave the corporate world. Liz had worked with me at the non-profit company American Vision for two years. Making this adjustment instantly meant I was the primary provider of the family for the foreseeable future.

But the second baby will not be born till mid September of this year, so our work lives and weekly routine would be the same for a couple months yet. Then the unexpected happened. At home early one evening last week after a long day of errands, Liz was trying to turn on the ceiling fans to get the air circulating in the house. It was a little warm. Well, when Liz tried to reach the chain in the guest bedroom, a little out of her reach, she slipped and fell backward on her wrist.

The fall wasn’t so severe in and of itself. If she hadn’t been pregnant it probably wouldn’t have hurt her more than a bruise. But being pregnant, her nutrients are primarily going to the baby, and we didn’t realize, but her bones were weaker. I learned just yesterday that this is a good thing in the case of some bones because a pregnant woman’s pelvic bones will need to be softer to spread apart to make room for the growing baby. However, it wasn’t good thing for Liz’s arm.

Liz was home alone with Reese when it happened. She thought the pain might go away at first, but it didn’t take long for her to call me at the office and explain I needed to come home; it was an emergency.

At the emergency room we were informed they couldn’t fix the arm without giving her anesthesia. They couldn’t give it to her because she is pregnant. So they wrapped her arm and told us we needed to see a doctor specialist. We were referred to the Pinnacle Group’s practice. It just so happens an old family friend of mine, Dr. Stan Dysart, is a member of Pinnacle. We made arrangements as soon as possible to get her in and have it fixed with him.

So the wrist was broken Wednesday last week. We saw Dr. Dysart Friday. On that occasion, because Liz had a hyperventilation reaction to the meds to numb her writst, her muscles contracted and they weren’t able to pull the broken bones back into place. We had to reschedule for surgery ASAP.

Surgical center waiting room

That surgery was today. It just finished. I’m sitting in the waiting room at the Marietta Surgical Center of Georgia. Dr. Dysart just told me that everything went all right—the fix made the damage unnoticeable on x-rays. Liz will be out of it for a few hours yet, but the worst is over. Pain will be with her for awhile, but we’re over the hill.

So I want to note that with all the changes that had to be made since Liz couldn’t work, or so much as take care of our baby Reese, the help from others has flooded in. I’m grateful for all the prayers, help, and general support we’ve had of late with Liz’s condition. So this is my thanks to all of you, and I wanted you to know that Liz is all right. Please keep her in your prayers that she will make a good recovery.

Liz shortly after the surgery

And if you want to know what else you can pray for, keep in mind that Liz will not go back to work between now and the time the baby is born like we’d originally planned. I know that the Lord will take care of us, and He has, but ask Him to give me a steady form of additional income to provide for the family in the weeks and months to come. God has been good and the medical bills are covered. I’m grateful He’s answering the request in advance. Still, keep it in mind as your prayer for us that we are making a big step from a two income household to a one income household.

I’m reminded in this experience of how good God is, and how He takes care of us. I believe bad things happen not because God isn’t good, but because he is good and He has a better, ultimate purpose for the the seemingly bad things that happen in our lives. Everything seemingly bad has a redemptive nature. Anything bad can and is for good. God is good, and this minor inconvenience/challenge in our lives is petty compared to wight of the good we have to gain from God’s care and blessing. The baby on the way is a blessing. The help we’ve got from friends and family is a blessing. God financially meeting our needs is a blessing.

So Liz’s wrist brakes, and in it all, I can say that God is good.

The Rhythm & Soul Music Festival returns to NYC and Brooklyn this coming June 12 and 13, 2009. The ink on the deal has barley dried, but the dates and venues are firm and final:

Friday, June 12 at Crystal’s Manor
1460 Flatbush Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11210
(718) 859-2141
8pm to 2am

Tickets will be available beginning Friday, May 1, 2009 at 12noon-6pm, and during regular business hours Monday to Friday until the day of the show.
Bands for the show will be announced shortly; this announcement for the show is being made only hours after the deal was finalized so if you reading this within days of it being posted you are among the first! Next, you can go to our MySpace page for info about the various bands to be featured in our top friends. We won’t tell you who just yet!

We can tell you this: Crystal’s Manor is where the main show takes place from 8pm to 2am, while there will be several other singers, poets and surprise performances next door at Crystal’s Bar and Lounge. Longer hours will make for the kind of variety a good music festival needs; the Lounge will be open from 6pm to 4am. Tickets will be required to enter from either side, but admission will also be granted for the Lounge at a discounted rate IF you decide you only want to attend the festival from the Lounge.

China Club Logo

New York NY 10036

Our second night takes us from Brooklyn into the heart of New York City in Times Square at the legendary China Club. 2 bands will perform during an early show (to be announced), along with 2 singers in between the bands, along with a special guest host. DJ Freedom (yours truly) will be on hand to spin in between sets.
The show will be shorter than our Friday show, but cater to a slightly larger space.

China Club typically caters to a dance club audience…at one point from 1999 to 2001, I would DJ in the Jade Terrace (VIP “lounge” downstairs) spinning the latest club hits for a packed dance crowd of all ages, races and income ranges. This is an interesting opportunity for me to return to this venue to produce a portion of Rhythm & Soul Music Festival there…one that I hope you reading this will attend and enjoy.

After a couple years off, Rhythm & Soul Music Festival returns to NYC a little more focused and centered than our last outing in 2007. A future update will list the artist lineup, times, ticket prices and where you can get tickets online and off. You can book your travel arrangements at SocialTravelers.info; click on “Book Travel” and then look for hotels in either Brooklyn or Manhattan, depending on your preference. If you need assistance, please reach out to us anytime: (212) 252-2528 by phone, myspace.com/rsmf if you are interested in performing, hearing the music and getting to know the artists; rsmf@spinradiofm.net if you would like to be added to our email list. If you are on Facebook you can find me as “Freedom Just Us.” I will have a posting there for the event and update it as soon as the artists have been selected.

Today is graduation day for the 4 K-9’s in Olmsted and Goodhue County.

Officers say these dogs are much needed to help keep your neighborhood safe.

Four K-9 dogs are getting their diplomas after 8 weeks of intense training, including Officer James Bradley’s new pal, Jake.

“Feel pretty good hopefully tonight we’ll get out on the streets,” said James Bradley.

3 of these dogs will join officers in Olmsted County and Rochester making it a total of 10 dogs in the county to help meet an increasing demand.

“We’re handling about anywhere from 9 hundred to 1-thousand calls a year,” said Mark Darnell.

These canines routinely help officers out during burglaries and narcotics investigations.

Their talent for sniffing out explosives is especially important for Olmsted County with many high profile dignitaries coming to the Mayo Clinic.

Lately I’ve had work coming at me left and right. Just when I thought I’d have some time

Lately I’ve had work coming at me left and right. Just when I thought I’d have some time to get a business related blog site up to promote myself, It seems like God didn’t think I needed one and He drove all the work I could afford to me. I Don’t have time to finish the site. Good thing.

So, it’s no surprise that all the work I’m getting is from the people I know (well, two exceptions… okay, half is from the people I know). First my brother, Nathaniel, is working on a fictional book series, and he’s asked me to co-author the second book with him.We already know how we’re going to get them published and at least have one resource interested in reselling them, so it’s really just a matter of getting the material down on paper and then we’re done. Right now, we’re into the third, or so, week on the writing project, and it looks like it’ll take till late spring to finish the book.

Second, thanks to the generous needs of CMI U.S.A. (Creation Ministries International), I’ve been given several graphic design related projects from Jared Vallorani (thanks again, Jared [he's on Facebook]). I’ve been the designer of their new line of product promotional emails and created a new template for their news related INFObytes emails that they will are implementing as I write. This means I work through CMI U.S.A. with CMI Australia because that is where they’re headquartered. It’s fun to get to know and work with people “Down Under.” I gotta admit.

Third, I’ve been able to work with Tolle Lege Press to make packaging for a wonderful new product: Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” Unabridged Audio Dramatization. I’ve been able to listen to the program as I worked on the packaging, and it is really good. I’m glad I get a copy of it free, but I’d highly recommend the product to anyone. It’s roughly four hours long. Excellent production quality. It’s a shoe-in as a traditional listening program while families travel on the road for the holidays.

Fourth, I’m designing the new logos for the upcoming ChristianReader.com and ReformationBookstore.com. These are divisions of Tolle Lege Press, and it is an honor to collaborate with Eric Rauch—the editor/blogger for ChristianReader.com—to make these classical and sophisticated logos. I think We’ve made something that is truly difficult not to like. We’ll see if surfers have any response.

And that is everything that has been keeping me busy in my off hours of American Vision (the non-profit organization I work for). So when you get my status and it says “I’m still working” (on Facebook) at 9:30 PM that’s probably because I am. I’ll be posting image previews of these things here for your enjoyment and comment in the near future.

The body of Julian King (7), nephew of Jennifer Hudson, was found today following a three day search for the missing boy. He was found in the back of a white SUV van stolen from the Hudson home in Chicago on the day of the shooting that killed Jennifer’s brother and mother on Friday. According to the police, the child was apparently shot dead at the house, the same as his uncle and grandmother. The murder suspect as of now is that of William Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister, Julia. I am so sorry to hear about it and my heart goes out to the Hudson family. It’s so horrible to hear of something like this happen to someone who is so great as Jennifer, an academy award winner for her role in the film “Dreamgirls”. But atleast the anticipation is over, we know where Julian is and the bodies can finally be put at rest.

Early Friday morning the bodies the mother and brother of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson were found dead at the family’s Chicago home. Investigators have said that they were victims of an apparent domestic dispute.

Darnell Donnerson, 57, and her son Jason Hudson, 29, were discovered around 3 pm Friday afternoon at Donnerson’s Englewood, Chicago home.

Neighbors claimed they heard gunshots early in the morning, but it was not until late Friday afternoon when visitors to the home informed authorities of the dead bodies.

The body of Mrs. Donnerson was found on the living room floor and Jason Hudson was found in the bedroom.

A Chicago police spokesman said the are searching for a missing seven-year-old boy named Julian King, who may be connected to the double homicide. An Amber Alert has been issued for the boy and a white 1994 Chevy Suburban truck.

Authorities have named William Balfour as a suspect in the killings and he is currently being questioned.
The Illinois Department of Corrections Web site lists Balfour, 27, as having been convicted of attempted murder, car theft and vehicular hijacking. He was released from prison in 2006.

Police said the child was identified as Julian King, adding they believed he was the grandson of the woman found slain.

Jennifer Hudson, 26, who shot to nationwide star-status on the talent show American Idol and later an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in “Dreamgirls,” was said to be flying home to Chicago from Tampa, Florida.

Endless hours tied to a desk listening to ongoing lectures can be quite a bore, not to mention time

Endless hours tied to a desk listening to ongoing lectures can be quite a bore, not to mention time consuming. No wonder the drop out rate is so high- students simply do not feel academically challenged enough to stay focused and achieve their professional objectives.

We live in a fast paced world where expectations are higher then before, where your abilities are judged by your qualifications; as a result we need to constantly develop our skills to demonstrate our determination to succeed.

While traditional learning has its benefits, more students prefer online training because of its flexibility and sense of achievement- besides learning does not have to be expensive, inconvenient and intimidating.

Online training offers you a range of benefits, which is exactly what we need for our modern day living. Whilst it gives you the ability to work at your own pace, learn at your own convenience without having to sit in a tedious lecture for long hours and reduce unnecessary costs, it also gives you an opportunity to challenge yourself and your abilities.

Gone are the days of having to attend detention because you have not done your homework or pulling an ‘all-nighter’ because you have a test to write early morning- with online training you have your own freedom and have to answer to no one but yourself.

This may sound easy but in reality as much as online training provides much benefits and gives you a good turnaround time to achieve your goals, it also tests your self-discipline and hunger for determination.

When attending a traditional class you are forced to keep up with your instructors schedules and work on prearranged times, but with online training you get to work at your own pace, you are no longer bound to anyone’s schedule and need to find the time to work your way through the course- by yourself, at your own time.

At Darnell training academy our courses are accessible 24/7 so you can learn when ever time suits you best. And with out online tutors supporting you all the way, you are kept motivated throughout the entire programme.

Online learning is an opportunity for all students to develop their skills to pursue their goals and although success doesn’t happen over night- with online learning achievement is but a few eye blinks away!
