Easy, Bro.

Alright, so that title line was my attempt at writing “The Raiders” like Chris Berman does without elongating it like he does (’cause let’s face it, that’d just look stupid and illiterate). Hope it worked. If it didn’t, that’s OK because we’re moving along now.

I just woke up, I’m listening to Spotify in my headphones with Sunday NFL Countdown on my TV (which is stupid cause I can’t hear a damn thing they’re saying), it’s a normal Sunday morning. What isn’t normal is that the Browns play at 4:15, which could either be prolonging the inevitability of a loss, or just proving the age-old phrase that “good things come to those who wait”. I’m going to keep this short and go with the latter of the two. Here’s why the Browns are gonna pull it out this afternoon.

- The Black Hole just isn’t the Dawg Pound. Don’t believe me? Whatever, Raiders fan.

- ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Twitter this morning that McFadden is unlikely to play for Oakland this afternoon. This is good for a couple of reasons. Run defense isn’t our specialty, and McFadden is undoubtedly a plus talent. It’s the little things.

- Another little thing is that the Raiders are giving up on average about 10 points more than the Brownies. As the Browns’ young offense continues to click, we should see numbers improving.

- Trent Richardson’s kinda good.

- Ditto for Josh Gordon.

- The weather report for Oakland today: Pouring. Phil Taylor’s ready to go, and that’s about all I needed to hear to be confident about today.

Big Phil has spoken. Browns Nation is absolutely ready. Here’s how the boys are gonna get it done today on the left coast. It’s been a while, but it’s now time for another “Chalk it up, here’s my shot in the dark prediction”.

I think I have picked Phil Dawson to knock down a field goal in every game, and there’s only been 3 games where that hasn’t happened. So, per usual, Phil Dawson gets the Browns on the board with a 43-yarder through the mud and rain. Trent (another frequent part of these picks) is a major factor in this one. He trucks his way to 112 yards and a score. Brandon Weeden adds another TD pass to Ben Watson. Carson Palmer throws a TD to someone (nobody cares who, ’cause it’s not gonna matter). That’s it for the Raiders. In total, that’s a 17-7 victory for the good guys.

Carson Palmer, you’re just another USC quarterback that isn’t nearly as good as people had hoped. So ha.

I’ll be heading to Cluckers in Louisville for some delicious chicken (who would of guessed) and Browns football. The new and exciting thing this week is that Believing Since 1999 is now on Twitter! That’s right Cleveland fans, now you don’t have to wait to read the infrequent (it’ll get better, I promise) blog posts to get meaningless-but-hopefully-entertaining commentary on all things Cleveland. Follow us here at #BS1999 @BelieveInCLE. I’ll be sure to tweet my random thoughts throughout the game there. The “follow” button at the bottom of the page has been changed to that account as well. If you were referred to this article because you already follow the new Twitter, you’re the best, and please spread the word.

GO BROWNS.

CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) - The Oakland Raiders are not expected to play running back Darren McFadden Sunday in Oakland according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

McFadden, who has missed the last 3 games with an ankle injury, was expected to be a game time decision against the Browns.

McFadden has run for 455 yards and 2 touchdowns on 135 carries this season.

The forecast for Sunday’s game in Oakland is improving with heavy rain expected to subside as the afternoon goes on, however field conditions will remain a concern both teams.

Ok boys and girls, the most important week of the regular season is upon us. Many playoff spots hing

Ok boys and girls, the most important week of the regular season is upon us. Many playoff spots hinge on the results of this week’s games, so make sure you have you monitor Inactive lists tomorrow AM and prior to the afternoon games, as many guys who are iffy are playing either at 1pm PST or Sunday night.

Felix Jones looks like he’s going to be a game-time decision for this Sunday night’s game. This knee injury appears to be troublesome and he hasn’t looked great healthy either. With DeMarco Murray slated to come back this week, Jones becomes a definite sit this week…Speaking of the Cowboys, watch out for reports prior to the game concerning Miles Austin and his hip flexor strain. First he dealt with a hamstring strain, now a hip flexor. Looks like he’s definitely prone to muscular issues, which have a tendency to linger and really limit function. I think he’ll play, but he may not be quite 100% at this point…Sidney Rice is an interesting one to watch tomorrow, as he was a full participant on Wednesday and Thursday, but apparently suffered a calf strain during Friday’s practice. It’s never a good sign when someone is added to the injury report on Friday and we’re talking a strained calf, which is a very difficult injury to play through. The calf provides the force behind pushing off to change directions and accelerate, so he will be significantly limited whether he plays or not…Percy Harvin is officially doubtful to play and word is he didn’t travel with the team to Green Bay. Jarius Wright gets a bump in value with Harvin out…Danny Amendola is another guy who is listed as doubtful, but basically a lock to miss Sunday’s game against the Niners with a foot injury…Two Bengals are dealing with injuries, but both are expected to play. BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Andrew Hawkins should both be ready to go despite minor injuries. Green-Ellis sprained his ankle during Friday’s practice. I’m not concerned because he was still listed as probable despite the injury. Hawkins is coming back from a sore knee and looks like he’s ready to regain his starting job this week. Remember, he’s the possession guy who stands to benefit a ton from the attention AJ Green gets, so I’m expecting (hoping) he has a huge day tomorrow…Julian Edelman and Brandon Weeden both look good to return from concussions this week, as both returned to practice and were participants on Friday, which is always a good sign for return to action. No word on clearance from an independent neurologist per the NFL concussion guidelines though, so check reports before each guy’s game…Antonio Brown will be back in the starting lineup for the Steelers, but he’s still a must SIT this week with Charlie Batch getting the start at QB again. With Ben Roethlisberger expected to be back in action next week, that would be the time to get Brown back in your lineup. Brown has had time to recover and seems to have shaken off his lingering high ankle sprain.

THE REST:

Expected to Play: Ahmad Bradshaw, Aaron Hernandez, Carson Palmer, Jeremy Kerley, Torrey Smith, Owen Daniels, Andre Johnson, Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Beanie Wells

Should Play, but Could Be Limited: Darren McFadden (I’m not a believer that he’s ready to roll, maybe one week away), Matt Forte

Long Shot to Play: Andre Roberts, Kevin Kolb

There we have it, should be an interesting Week 13 with so many implications. On a personal note, I have two teams that are in the playoffs with a victory, so I know I’ll be glued to the TV tomorrow morning and afternoon. This would actually be the first season I’ve had all my teams make the playoffs if things work out the way I hope they do (4 total teams). Let’s see how this puppy plays out. Good luck folks!

For a third straight day of practice, running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson were limited and both are listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. Whether those two play or not, expect all-purpose back Marcel Reece to get the ball both as a running back and receiver.

One person who is out for certain is Rolando McClain. The disgruntled third year linebacker is suspended until Dec. 10th for conduct detrimental to the team after getting into a heated exchange with head coach Dennis Allen on Wednesday during practice. He also cost himself $114,000 in salary for two games. Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie met with beat writers for the first time in months to address the situation regarding McClain.

“It’s going to be a possibility,” when asked if McClain has played his final game with Oakland. “He’s suspended. There’s always, what’s going to happen afterward? What’s his approach afterward? I know what he’s texting, Facebooked, all that, what he said, that he’s gone. But I think I’m the one that’s going to make that call, not him.”

Quarterback Carson Palmer was a full participant on Friday after being limited on Thursday. Palmer as he says, “jammed” the thumb on his throwing hand when he hit a helmet while throwing a pass at Cincinnati but expects to be ready to start Sunday’s game. Palmer has good success against the Cleveland Browns from his time with the Bengals. He is 9-3 vs. Cleveland in his career.

Defensive tackle Richard Seymour did not practice all week and will miss a fourth straight game with knee and hamstring injuries. Defensive end Jack Crawford is out with a toe injury and of course, McClain is out as he serves his two game suspension.

As for the Browns, their rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden has been cleared to play in Sunday’s game. He has suffered a concussion vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday but had two full days of practice to get the start against the Raiders.

Running back Trent Richardson has been a big reason the Browns have won three of their last six games following an 0-5 start to the season. He has been batting chest. rib, and finger injuries but is probable to play and hasn’t missed a game.
He only had eight carries against the Colts in week 7. Since then, Richardson has between 24 and 29 carries in the last four games. He has 209 rushes for 755 yards and six touchdowns on the season.

Veteran kick and punt returner Joshua Cribbs only practiced on Friday and was limited. Cribbs has been recovering from a shoulder and chest injury which has affected his playing time and the possible speculation from fans he’d be replaced by Travis Benjamin. But according to head coach Pat Shurmer, he’s good to go for Sunday. Despite an illness to receiver Eric Hagg, Shurmer also said he’ll be in the lineup against the Raiders.

Defensive back Usama Young is out with a concussion and so is DB Dmitri Patterson who was limited in practice all week with an ankle injury.

Cleveland Browns

Probable

DB Johnson Bademosi (hip/shin), TE Jordon Cameron (groin), OL Shawn Lauvao (arm), RB Trent Richardson (chest/rib/finger), DL Frostee Rucker (shoulder/finger), TE Alex Smith (chest/ribs), DB T.J. Ward (knee), QB Brandon Weeden (head)

Questionable

WR Joshua Cribbs (shoulder/chest), WR Eric Hagg (illness)

Out

DB Dmitri Patterson, (ankle), DB Ray Ventrone (calf), DB Usama Young (head)

Oakland Raiders

Probable

FB Marcel Reece (hamstring/quadricep), S Tyvon Branch, (neck), RB Taiwan Jones (ankle), QB Carson Palmer (right thumb)

Questionable

RB Mike Goodson (ankle), RB Darren McFadden (ankle),

Out

DE Jack Crawford (toe), DT Richard Seymour (knee/hamstring), LB Rolando McClain (disciplinary reasons)

NOTE: If you are reading this blog on any other site than www.winyourleague.com or http://www.fantasyfootballwinnersmentor.com, you are not getting the full story. We have extended content and 730ESPN radio appearances to share, so go to one of those sites right now.

With just one more month left in the regular season, it’s crunch time for a lot of teams, both fantasy and reality. In fact, for a good many fantasy leagues, your playoffs are just around the corner. That means that all of your lineup decisions are even more critical than before. So, let’s take a look at some of these possibilities and where you should land.

Cleveland @ Oakland

Cleveland Browns

The word out of Cleveland is that QB Brandon Weeden has progressed enough that he will probably play this week. Weeden has been quietly effective at times this year, and playing against Oakland’s defense is a cure all for most QB’s. However, Weeden’s wide receivers have not been very steady. Both Greg Little and Josh Gordon seem to come and go with the breeze. The running game is a bit more consistent owing to the presence of Trent Richardson. He may not be putting up monster numbers each week, but he gets the job done with defenses stacked against him. SUMMARY: If, for some reason, you were in a real bind, you might start Weeden, but you have to start Richardson.

Oakland Raiders

That passing streak that Carson Palmer was on has come to an abrupt end. Denarius Moore and Darius Heywood-Bey have both been disappointing of late, which begs the question, which came first…Palmer’s fall from fantasy grace or the WR’s going belly up? It doesn’t matter. For the most part, this team is going nowhere, and their fantasy value is taking a big hit. Of course RB Marcel Reece has been a real find, but Darren McFadden may be back, so how do they share time on the field, and who is more valuable. SUMMARY: I don’t trust the passing game anymore, though I would be inclined to start Reece, regardless of the McFadden influence.

Pittsburgh @ Baltimore

Pittsburgh Steelers

This is almost a must-win game for the Steelers, but Ben Rothlisberger will not be back on the field. Certainly Charley Batch was no answer, and without Ben, the entire passing game and its fantasy value approaches zero. That means that the games of Mike Wallace (who has his own squabbles going on), Antonio Brown (just coming back from injury), Emanuel Sanders and TE Heath Miller are all suspect. In the run game, Mike Tomlin has said that Jonathan Dwyer is his newest RB of choice. It’s a good decision, but it could change in a heartbeat. SUMMARY: At this time of the year, with fantasy playoff implications, I’d shy away from the Steelers pass game if I could. However, I might trust Dwyer in the run game. He’s the best Steelers’ option for fantasy points.

Baltimore Ravens

Joe Falcco plays better at home, and this is a home game, but Pittsburgh still has a pretty good pass defense, especially if Troy Palamalu is able to go, and the word is that he will. What it boils down to is that Falcco, Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin are all possibilities, but don’t expect any monster games. TE Dennis Pitta is back and could also figure in. The one player, who gives you the best possibility for points is Ray Rice. SUMMARY: Rice starts no matter who or where he’s playing. As for the others, they may be start worthy with hugely tempered expectations. Look for better options if you can.

Philadelphia @ Dallas

Philadelphia Eagles

I can sum up the Eagles’ fantasy prospects in two words…Bryce Brown…and that’s assuming that his coming out party wasn’t a total fluke. QB Nick Foles needs time to get used to the NFL game. The offensive line is a total disaster. DeSean Jackson is gone for the year. LeSean McCoy looks to be out for some time. The defense is just plain awful. Andy Reid is a dead man walking. SUMMARY: Start any Eagle at your own risk. Brown might be worth a shot, but you know that Dallas will be gunning for him.

Dallas Cowboys

If you just read the summary of the Eagles team, you know why this is just about a perfect matchup for the Cowboys. That awful defense should open things up for Tony Romo and a newly discovered Dez Bryant. If Mikes Austin can get over his hip, he would be a good play too. If not, the other WR’s will probably split targets enough to not matter in fantasy. Word on the street is that DeMarco Murray may get back on the field. You’ll have to monitor the injury status to make a decision there. Otherwise, Felix Jones should get the bulk of work. SUMMARY: The entire Dallas passing game plays depending on health issues, and that most certainly includes TE Jason Witten. Medical reports will determine how the running game shapes up. If it’s just Jones, he might be a good play. If it also includes Murray, I could see an easing in period, which would make both Murray and Jones fantasy worthless…at least for now.

New York Giants @ Washington

New York Giants

The last time these two played, RGIII torched the Giants’ secondary. It could happen again, and if it does, Eli Manning had better look a lot like he did against Green Bay coming off the bye. I think he will, and that bodes well for the passing attack, including Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and TE Martellus Bennett. In the run game, it now all falls to Amhad Bradshaw, with goal line vulture Andre Brown out with a broken leg. We might see a bit of David Wilson, but baring injury, Bradshaw will be the man going forward. SUMMARY: The running game goes against a tough defense, but I would start all the main skill guys on the Giants. David Wilson could be a sneaky play, especially in leagues that award points for return yardage.

Washington Redskins

Even if the Redskins don’t make the playoffs, you gotta love the near future of this team. Robert Griffin III brings a whole new sense of direction with his play, and RB Alfred Morris has been a real find and one of the best waiver pick ups of the fantasy season. Pierre Garcon missed a lot of time with foot issues, and they are still a bother, but RGIII likes to throw in the “waiter’s” direction, while Santana Moss seems a bit revived from the fantasy dead…and watch out for Logan Paulson. There’s some talent there. SUMMARY: Griffin is a must start. Garcon (watch his health) and Moss are pretty good plays too. And, don’t forget Morris. He should have a nice game for you.

Every week there are big name players who are iffy to play or are ruled out following Friday practic

Every week there are big name players who are iffy to play or are ruled out following Friday practices. Here are some key players who I would not trust this week, even if they manage to play. Since I don’t trust them, I will present you with several players who I think can be very capable replacements for this week. These players could also have been ruled out later in the week, causing you to look for a last second plugin. All replacements will be listed based on the best available option in Yahoo leagues. With bye weeks now over, the replacement players’ lists will be a lot shorter.

Ben Roethlisberger (QB), Pittsburgh Steelers: Out

There was a chance of Big Ben coming back this week but that’s gone now with him being listed as out. He should be good to go for week 14.

Michael Vick (QB), Philadelphia Eagles: Out

Probably going to sit out the year regardless of health. Go ahead and drop Vick for any of the following guys, especially Kaepernick.

QB Replacements: Colin Kaepernick (San Francisco 49ers, 48% available), Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buffalo Bills, 56% available), and Chad Henne (Jacksonville Jaguars, 88% available)

Darren McFadden (RB), Oakland Raiders: Game Time Decision

DMC finally returned to practice in a limited fashion, giving him a shot to play this weekend. No way your starting him if he is active unless you’re in a deep league or have absolutely no alternatives.

DeMarco Murray (RB), Dallas Cowboys: Questionable

Murray also returned to practice after missing an extended period of time. Since he is playing against a Eagles team that has called it quits, I only see him as a low-end flex play this week. However, I would start any of the players below over him.

LeSean McCoy (RB), Philadelphia Eagles: Out

Sigh…one more week of my fantasy team getting screwed.

RB Replacements: Rashad Jennings (Jacksonville Jaguars, 42% available), Joique Bell (Detroit Lions, 74% available), and Jonathan Dwyer (Pittsburgh Steelers, 56% available)

Percy Harvin (WR), Minnesota Vikings: Doubtful

Like McCoy, another week of my team getting screwed over during its playoff chase. Hopefully Harvin is ready to go next week as he will have had 3 weeks of rest and rehab.

Danny Amendola (WR), St. Louis Rams: Doubtful

Amendola was listed as doubtful last week and ended up playing. I doubt that is gonna be the case this week as he was in a walking boot the entire week. Say he is active, expect the same production or less as last week (3.8 fantasy points). Look for the following guys first.

WR Replacements: T.Y. Hilton (Indianapolis Colts, 44% available), Danario Alexander (San Diego Chargers, 52% available), Davone Bess (Miami Dolphins, 62% available), Ryan Broyles (Detroit Lions, 66% available), Brandon LaFell (Carolina Panthers, 71% available), Chris Givens (St. Louis Rams, 88% available), and Jarius Wright (Minnesota Vikings, 99% available)

If any of these last second plugins actually helped you win for the week, please let me know on twitter (@azn21baller). Follow me if you want to hit me up regarding any fantasy football questions.

Raiders running back Darren McFadden could be returning after missing three games with an ankle sprain. McFadden was able to practice this week but is currently listed as questionable. Coach Dennis Allen said McFadden will be a game time decision. The running back was non-committal when interviewed by reporters on Friday.

“I’m just working hard,” McFadden said, via Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com. “Whatever happens when Sunday gets here, I’m going to roll with it.”

There’s some speculation that the Raiders might finally activate Terrelle Pryor this Sunday. Defensive tackle Richard Seymour is out again and running back Mike Goodson also looks like a game-time call.

By Ryan Leong Wednesday’s news was all about linebacker Rolando McClain and possibly his final

By Ryan Leong

Wednesday’s news was all about linebacker Rolando McClain and possibly his final days wearing the Silver and Black. He was absent from practice and head coach Dennis Allen only commented that McClain missed practice for “team related issues”

<img title="Rolando McClain #55 of the Oakland Raiders" alt="NAPA, CA - AUGUST 01: Rolando McClain #55 of the Oakland Raiders works out during the Raiders training camp at their Napa Valley Training Complex on August 1, 2010 in Napa, California.
Kyle Burger of WVTM-TV in Birmingham, Ala., tweeted that McClain wrote on his Facebook page that he was “Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!” and “I’d like to be anywhere besides here.” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also tweeted the same information and later said the thread had been removed in the late afternoon.

Allen said he didn’t know whether McClain would return to practice Thursday, and would not elaborate on the matter.

“No more details, no more comments, just team-related issues,” Allen said after practice. McClain was still listed on the official team roster and was not listed on the waiver wive according to a team spokesperson. McClain was the final draft pick of former Raiders owner Al Davis, the eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft.

He has been nothing but a headache for the team, especially with his off-field problems the last two years. First in January 2011, he was shot at while he was a passenger in an SUV in his hometown of Decatur. No one was injured but a bullet was recovered in the rear hatch.

But more troubling was what happened in late December when McClain was accused of threatening a man and firing a gun next to his ear. He was recently cleared by a judge of all charges because the man who made the allegation refused to proceed.

This season, McClain has been a major disappointment, getting his playing time cut in half after the fourth game of the season. He has been replaced at middle linebacker by Omar Gaither who was signed by the team as a free agent on November 14. McClain is due to have a salary cap number of $6.675 million in 2013, $8.475 million in 2014 and $5.085 million in 2015.

In other news, running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson both returned for the first time to practice since both were injured November 4 with high ankle sprains. They each have missed three games and spent two weeks in walking boots.

“Both Goodson and McFadden practiced on a limited basis, took reps with the first group some today,” Allen said. “It’s still an evaluation process. We’ll have to see how they go the rest of the week. It obviously was good to see them back out there.”

Allen isn’t concerned about the rainy weather that will likely affect the condition of the playing field and both will see playing time against Cleveland. He does admit both players will be rusty having missed nearly a month.

McFadden leads the Raiders in rushing with 455 yards on 139 carries, but is averaging only 3.3 yards per carry. Goodson ranks third on the team with 111 yards on 17 carries and has 14 catches for 173 yards and one touchdown.

Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer was glad to see both teammates back on the practice field.

“Great, just to see them in the huddle,” Palmer said. “It feels like it has been a lot longer than it actually has. It’s just good to see them in the huddle, see them get reps, see Darren smiling and hitting the hole hard and same thing with Goody [Mike Goodson]. It’s good for the team but also good for the offense to have those guys back.”

Defensive tackle Richard Seymour did not practice and has missed the last three games with knee and hamstring injuries. Outside Linebacker Miles Burris missed practice with the flu.

Sorry for not summing up the rest of Sunday’s game. Between traveling back from hanging with

Sorry for not summing up the rest of Sunday’s game. Between traveling back from hanging with the Raiders Boosters of York PA and bad calls from the refs, I was in another world! But, Sunday is a new game (yours truly and Mrs. East Coast Raider will be in attendance). But, the Raiders have been mathematically eliminated from the AFC West title. The wild card isn’t out or reach…yet. Regardless, the Raiders have to be looking at the offseason. There’s going to be a lot of dead weight to cut, and The Raiders need to get the future on the field as much as possible.

First, Terrelle Pryor needs to be on the field in some capacity in the next five weeks. In no way am I saying Carson Palmer is failing at his job. Actually, I’m not sure the Raiders would have won a game this year without him. But even if he’s just in wildcat formations, we need to let Pryor loose to show off his freakish physical skills.

After a very slow start to the year, rookie wide receiver Juron Criner is starting to come around. Two weeks ago, he caught his first touchdown pass. I’d like to see more of him and Rod Streater, though not at the expense of Denarius Moore and DHB. The four of them should be on the field as much as possible for the rest of the year.

Bandon Myers is producing well at tight end, so keep him out there. But I’d still like to see David Ausberry used more. He seems like a Marcel Reece-styler player to me. Speaking of Reece, he cemented a spot (something many of us already knew) as a key member of the offense during Darren McFadden’s injury. I’m not quite ready to give up on Run-DMc, but I also wouldn’t be overly surprised if the Raiders see what’s out there in trade value during the offseason.

On the line, let’s start with offense. Rookie Tony Bergstrom got a few snaps on Sunday, and was horribly beat for a costly play. But, at least he’s out there getting reps. He’ll get better. Hopefully the Wiz and Jared Veldheer can get some help next year. I’d like to see Khalif Barnes and Cooper Carlisle wrap up their time in Oakland, and I’m on the fence about Mike Briesel. On the defensive line, the only person on whom I’m sold is Lamarr Houston. Everyone else should be on notice.

Linebacker was a very shaky position for the Raiders before the season. Philip Wheeler and rookie Miles Burris are solid. Rolando McClain, though part of Oakland’s youth, should either be given his walking papers or have his deal restructured. Corner and safety are a mess. Michael Huff has played corner well, and Tyvon Branch isn’t playing bad at safety. However, beyond Branch, Oakland should overhaul the safeties after the season. Matt Giordano has heart, but he’s just not good enough. As for Mike Mitchell, I’m growing tired of his act. I hear him complain more than anyone else. He’s said he feels he can start on any team in the league. He’s said he’s ready to start after feeling held back. He’s now saying how tired he is of losing. Nothing I’ve heard from him lately has been positive for grateful for his position. Darrius Heyward-Bey, an Al Davis reach, works hard and keeps his head down. Terrelle Pryor, Al’s last pick ever, has said how much he wants to validate Mr. Davis’ belief in him. But Mitchell doesn’t come off like he wants to be there. I’d let him on the field for the last five weeks. Give him the start over Giordano, and let’s see what he can do.

Let’s have some fun the last five weeks. Set the young Raiders loose to have fun, and kick a little ass while they’re doing it.

ALAMEDA (AP) — The slumping Oakland Raiders got a jolt Wednesday when running backs Darren McFadden

ALAMEDA (AP) — The slumping Oakland Raiders got a jolt Wednesday when running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson returned to practice for the first time since missing three games with sprained right ankles.

Both backs got hurt in Oakland’s 42-32 loss to Tampa Bay on Nov. 4 and were finally cleared to return to practice this week. That loss started the Raiders (3-8) on a four-game losing streak that is the team’s longest in four years.

“It’s great just to see them in the huddle,” quarterback Carson Palmer said. “”It feels like it’s been a lot longer than it actually has. But just good to see them in the huddle and see them get reps and see Darren smiling and hitting the hole hard, and same thing with Goody. Good for the team but also good for the offense to have those guys back.”

Coach Dennis Allen said both backs took snaps with the first team at practice and would be evaluated as the week goes on before a decision is made on whether they will play Sunday against Cleveland (3-8).

While Oakland has missed its top two backs, fullback Marcel Reece has been a more than adequate fill-in after moving into the halfback role for the first time in his career.

The former college wide receiver has rushed for 225 yards and caught 15 passes for 175 yards the past three weeks. His 4.8 yards per carry in those three games is significantly higher than McFadden’s 3.3 before he got hurt and Reece has six runs of at least 10 yards — one fewer than McFadden in 91 fewer carries.

“Marcel has earned the right to carry the ball some,” Allen said. “We’ll still use him in that capacity.”

Reece had 19 touches in the seven full games before McFadden got hurt, compared to 62 in the three weeks as the featured back in Oakland’s offense. Now the Raiders will need to figure out a way to get Reece the ball more even if McFadden is back in the lineup.

“Marcel is a beast,” Goodson said. “”We need to give him the ball all the time the way he makes plays. It helps us out a lot overall for him to be making plays like that. You guys see what he does when he touches the ball. You want to get your playmakers the ball.”

But despite strong play from Reece, the offense as a whole has struggled, scoring 15.7 points per game the past three weeks after averaging 21.4 points per gamer over the first eight weeks.

This has been a rough season for McFadden, who emerged as one of the NFL’s most dangerous backs the past two seasons before reverting back to his early career struggles this season.

McFadden has averaged more than 4 yards a carry only once all season, when he rushed for 113 yards on 18 carries against Pittsburgh in September. His 3.3 yards per carry for the season is the worst of any back with at least 100 carries.

McFadden averaged more than 5 yards a carry the past two seasons as he shined under play-caller Hue Jackson. When the team went back to more of the zone blocking schemes the Raiders used early in McFadden’s career, he once again struggled.

But he still strikes fear in opposing defenses.

“He’s explosive,” Browns coach Pat Shurmur said. “He’s one of those guys that can score when he has the ball in his hands. It doesn’t matter where you’re at on the field, they can be on their 1-yard line and this guy can score. When you have players on the field that can score touchdowns, that’s what you want. With him not being in there, of course that’s hurt them. With him being in there, it’s obviously going to help them.”

With a new head coach and general manager, no one predicted the Raiders would make the playoffs. At the same time, nobody predicted the team would lose four in a row giving up a franchise record 169 points in the process, either.

<img title="Oakland Raiders fan" alt="OAKLAND, CA - NOVEMBER 18: An Oakland Raiders fan covers his head with a paper bag during their loss to the New Orleans Saints at O.co Coliseum on November 18, 2012 in Oakland, California.
For a team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2002, the Raider Nation has grown beyond impatient. Many of the loyal fans knew this would be a transition year and that the team would likely not improve on last year’s 8-8 record. Other than trying to keep morale up, there isn’t much you can do for the remaining five games but continue to play hard.

Everyone knew it would be a big challenge for general manager Reggie McKenzie, who himself has never been a GM but was the director of player personnel for the Green Bay Packers. McKenzie hired Dennis Allen, who had never been a head coach. Allen hires Jason Tarver to be his defensive coordinator, replacing Chuck Bresnahan. Tarver had previous NFL credentials as an assistant and in 2011 was the co-defensive coordinator at Stanford. Prior to that, Tarver had spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers in various capacities.

Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp had previously been the Raiders offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008 and those teams struggled to score points. This team is no different, having scored only 79 points in the last four games.

Without improvement from the team over the final five games, there isn’t much of an alternative but to replace Tarver and Knapp. As for Allen, he was signed to a four-year contract so he deserves at least another year to prove his vision of the future for the franchise.

Running back Darren McFadden has never been healthy for an entire season and his lack of production this season has been one of the reasons for the stagnant offense. Although quarterback Carson Palmer has thrown for over 3,000 yards, his three wins are a glaring indication that his stats are meaningless. Many are saying that Terelle Pryor should finally see some playing time, since he does represent the future. Pryor also is the last link to the late Al Davis — Al picked Pryor in the 2011 supplemental draft.

So many players that have been signed to long-term contracts are still on the roster, namely Richard Seymour and Tommy Kelly. These veterans haven’t performed and it’s time to trade them.

The Raiders are a team that is not going to the playoffs; that is a certainly having lost four straight to fall to 3-8. Losing is toxic and with a 12th season of mediocrity, the team is playing for pride. That involves playing as a team, which is difficult to do with a 53-man roster. Some have shown signs of lethargy while others are playing with intensity. It’s important the players collectively work towards winning two of their three remaining home games just so they feel better about themselves. The remaining opponents are the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs. It’s unlikely they’ll beat Peyton Manning and the Broncos, but the Browns and Chiefs are winnable games.

Change is coming but it won’t happen overnight.
