Yea, we’ve all heard the rumors – the ratings are falling, the drama and in-fighting between the new judges might sound the death knell for the 12th year of this now-iconic show.

Please. This is the same country that made the Kardashian’s a household word. Sadly, sometimes, we thrive on the drama.

The focus here, though, should be about the music…it’s the star, and it’s brought Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and now, maybe countless others out of their small-town obscurity to the national vernacular, and its contestants on playlists of radio stations like this one.

And it all begins again, tonight.

American Idol, Season 12.

The judges? Warhorse Randy Jackson, ‘newbies’ Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nikki Minaj. Notice I separated the women.

What will the new season be like? Constant judging battles and drama? Really funny auditions the first few weeks? More hits on YouTube than last year?

Time will tell, starting at 8pm tonight.

It sometimes happens in life that things don’t go the way you expect. Scratch that, they never do, but some people think they have it all figured out and made their life abide by the exact rules they imposed with that knowledge, and they quite like it that way. Even so, as previously mentioned, life has its own plans thus things never go the way you expect them to. It never did for him, anyway.

You’d expect that one would expect that one would understand he’s not Zeus in the mortal world, or Adonis among beasts, but sometimes it happens that a pebble appears among mortals, and that certain pebble thinks itself god, a narcissist really.

One might wonder what would happen when one such person meets someone that proves very much to be his equal or above him even. What would one such person do when he met a woman, and not just any ordinary woman but the’ woman.

The answer would prove to be a rather simple and fortuitist one, he’d crash and burn of course. He’ll sulk, he’ll yell, he’ll hate the Gods for putting him in such a situation. The perfect male transformed into a pile of goo at the mere sight of a female.

He, who mere weeks ago made ladies faint with just a smile, was now here, at this moment and in this situation. What would become of him, the flaming desire consuming him, but it was not just any desire. There was no devilish, sinful longing for the creatures flesh, no, this was the pure kind. Disgusting, but as repulsive as it was, it made his knees weak and his stomach fluttery.

His heart, moving at the speed of sound, made his entire persona catch on fire and that lady, his match-made lady, was ripe for his taking. Future bleak, but sparkling, might have been the very medicine for his narcissism, either that or poison. You decide.

In the space of a year back in 2004 Eric Dill went from Hoosier heartland obscurity to fronting a top Billboard pop act, leading the Click Five as they recorded “Just The Girl,” the song which taught him how harsh a mistress the world of pop can be. After juggling and eventually rejecting offers of publishing deals after his song “No Surprise” for Daughtry went platinum, he’s now back in Indianapolis looking to launch his solo career. His refreshingly candid interview with Indianapolis Monthly’s James Layne is worth checking out in its entirety. Check out “War with the Wolves” below, a shiny pop nugget which bodes well for the rest of his album Forever Is Not Enough. He seems to have his head in the right place, knowing that in today’s climate you’ve got to get the music out there, no limits:

I just really want to play a lot in Indianapolis and create my awareness here. And then connect the dots by letting people know that I’m from here, and then I left here. I had my little “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” [fronting The Click Five] and went around the world and learned all these different things. I got to see what I think few people have got to see, and I want to take the good and bad from that and apply it to my life, certainly to uplift the music here. I know it sounds ambitious, but I want nothing short of a renaissance here with music.

Quick, let’s get this guy out on the road with fellow Hoosiers Hero Jr and Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s and see what we can make happen!

Whataya want from them?

2012 was another rough year from American Idol finalists, many of whom were dropped from their major record label deals due to underperforming releases. The list includes (but isn’t limited to) blues singer Haley Reinhart, country cutie Kellie Pickler, as well as lite rockin’ Season 8 champ Kris Allen. This now means five of the eleven winners from the show have now been dumped; some have signed to independent labels, but that’s resulted in very little. Since the past few years have been especially volatile for singers being dropped, 2013 won’t likely be any different, and so, I present to you a prediction post of who might get the boot from their labels in 2013. This doesn’t necessarily mean they will be; it’s more of just the reasoning behind why one would be considered for a cancellation of their contract.

Now, some Idol contestants are obviously safe: Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, both winners of their respective seasons, have plenty of more big singles to go. Jennifer Hudson is obviously still in the spotlight because of her Weight Watchers success, and I think that will translate into at least another album or two, maybe another big movie. In short, she’s not going anywhere. Phillip Phillips, the reigning winner, is all over the radio with “Home”. He’ll continue to enjoy some hits… for now. However, I’m not sure about the rest of this crew. Let’s take a look at them by season.

SEASON 2
The only season 2 contestant of note that’s still on a major label is Clay Aiken, who has recorded a pair of albums for Decca Records after his drop from RCA. Tried And True made the top ten on the album chart, but barely passed 20,000 copies sold in its first week. Steadfast was released last year to capitalize on Aiken’s appearance on The Apprentice, but it faded away fast. He can’t get any sort of adult contemporary airplay anymore (unless it’s his 2003 hit, “Invisible”) and even though he still has a big fan base, they’re not buying his releases. He’ll likely get dropped and return to the theater. I would think that’s a more natural home for him at this point.

SEASON 3
Fantasia Barrino recently released a new single entitled “Lose To Win”, which samples “Nightshift” by the Commodores, and it’s really underwhelming, getting mixed fan reaction online. Plus, the whole scandal’s she been going through right now concerning an Instagram photo and a statement about the gay community isn’t exactly going down well. You know what’ll be going down well? Her sales. I bet you saw that one coming. Her album will do OK in the short-term, but I think this will probably be the last one for her, at least on RCA. She may try to sign to an independent label afterwards, but I don’t see anything coming of it.

SEASON 5
This is probably one of the more unlikely ones, but keep an eye out for a potential drop of Daughtry. Their last album, Break The Spell, was indeed certified Gold for shipments of 500,000 copies, but “Crawling Back To You” wasn’t a major hit (at least not to the effect that “It’s Not Over” and “Home” were) and the followup singles did even worse, becoming the band’s first mainstream releases to not crack the Hot 100. None of the three made the top 40 at CHR radio, which is a really bad sign as well. They may have one album left in them, or RCA could cut the cord after their tour with 3 Doors Down is over. It’s all up to them.

SEASON 6
Let’s be honest, Sparkle wasn’t the big hit a lot of people were expecting given the unfortunate passing of Whitney Houston. As it turns out, the name Jordin Sparks wasn’t selling tickets either. Sparks still has a recording contract with RCA, but her last release, “I Am Woman”, was a big failure despite a new sound for the singer. I think she’ll release an album this year with perhaps one mid-charting single and another that doesn’t do well at all, then, get the cut. I don’t think it’s worth keeping her around; the dance genre doesn’t fit her voice, and if that’s what is going to continue to be big on the charts, she’ll get lost in the shuffle.

SEASON 8
Alright, Glamberts, hold your horses for one second. I like both of Adam Lambert‘s albums. The singles, for the most part, did pretty well on my personal chart. However, radio doesn’t want him, and the general public, for the most part, can’t be fussed with him. Second album Trespassing debuted at #1 on the album chart. Impressive, fair enough. However, his first week sales were south of 80,000 copies and the album hasn’t been certified. Not great. “Better Than I Know Myself” was a minor Hot AC hit; “Never Close Our Eyes” did even less; the title track didn’t chart at any radio format. Boys and girls, it’s just not going to work out. Since the album’s promotion has ended, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an announcement from him early on in 2013. I can see him going to an exclusively dance label, but his success will be limited to the Dance/Club Play charts.

SEASON 9
Casey James has seen a few minor entries on the Country chart, but nothing really notable. Second single “Crying On A Suitcase” has been in the top 50 for nearly thirty weeks, so it’s likely to get pulled soon. He’s just no match for Carrie Underwood. He has a second album in the works at this point. He may get signed again to a smaller label and try getting ranked on the Music Row charts. Something might work out for him there.

SEASON 11
Alright, this is where it’s going to hurt. I see three additional people getting cut from last season. James Durbin is an obvious drop from Wind-up Records after his next album; “Love Me Bad” and “Stand Up” got some minor airplay, but nothing substantial. Nobody’s really interested in the Hinder/Nickelback-lite material at this point. Lauren Alaina still has a deal with 19/Mercury/Interscope and is in the process of finishing a second album, but considering how badly the three singles from her first album did on the Country survey, there’s no way she’ll make it to a third with the label. Lastly, Stefano Langone is still set to release a debut album with Hollywood Records in 2013, but does anyone even care about him anymore? “I’m On A Roll” dented the CHR top 50, but that was months ago. Next.

You may not necessarily agree with all of this, but just keep an open mind if one of these performers is a favorite of yours. Some things just weren’t meant to be, and this isn’t meant to be cruel. It’s just the music business nowadays. Too many music competition shows, not enough long-term superstars.

In the first quarter we would see the release of the following albums

True Believer – Darius Rucker – 22 January 2013

True Believer would be Darius Rucker fourth studio album and his third country album. After his departure from RnB music with the released of his country album Learn to love Rucker notch his first country number one album. Since then he has notch another number one country album with Charleston, SC 1966 which also peaked at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200. With continuing growth in his album sale True Believer would be his third number one on the country charts and perhaps his first number one on U.S. Billboard 200.

#willpower – will.i.am – 4 February 2013

After many delays will.i.am’s album #willpower has finally got the (hopefully) final released date. The first single from the album was released back in 2011 (T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)) and recently the fourth single (Scream and Shout feat. Britney Spears). I hope the wait for the album to released was worth it.

Conventional Weapons – My Chemical Romance – 5 February 2013

Conventional Weapons is a compilation album that would be released as five single A-side vinyls with two songs on each vinyl. The album would also be available through digital download. The album consists of ten unreleased song that was recorded prior to their fourth studio album (Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys).

Street King Immortal - 50 Cent – 26 February 2013

Unknown dates:

ARTPOP – Lady Gaga

Ludaversal – Ludacris

One Women Army – Ciara

Untitled by Carly Rae Jepsen

Other releases through the year:

TBA by Backstreet Boys

Untitled by Daughtry

Untitled by Britney Spears

The Carter V by Lil Wayne

Untitled by Eminem

Untitled by Katy Perry

This would be the albums to watch for in 2013 in the US.

(This list could change and is not complete due that not all artist has announced if they would release new music this year)

From around this time in 2002, multi-platinum selling band 3 Doors Down has been my favorite band.

Later in 2007, Daughtry came along and became my new favorite band. Soon enough, 3 Doors Down and Daughtry became my two favorite bands.

I prayed and envisioned to see both bands perform on tour together and for the opportunity to meet both bands. God, in all His glory and in all His love, worked things out to make all my dreams come true.

On December 15, 2012 I had the opportunity to meet and greet both bands and take pictures with some of the band members individually and in a supergroup format. This made 2012 the best year of my life and I f=give all the glory to Yeshua.

Throughout 2012 I have been sharing a lot of songs and music with all of you. Not a surprise if you

Throughout 2012 I have been sharing a lot of songs and music with all of you. Not a surprise if you know how important music really is to me. No matter where I go or what I do, there is always music around. So it would be safe to say that throughout the year I have listened to a lot of songs, albums and artists. Now the end of 2012 is approaching fast, I figured it would be nice to just share the songs, albums and artists I have listening to most with you all. Just to give you all an impression of the music that helped me through the year. A year where a lot of good and bad happened for me.

To start with, I will present you with the individual songs that I listened most to through 2012. The list below contains the artist, the song and the amount of plays over the past twelve months. Those who followed my blog throughout the year, won’t be surprised by the songs on this list. The only thing that really stands out is that Train made it with two songs to this list.

Top ten songs
1. Matt Nathanson – Room @ the End of the World – 80
2. Train – Drive By – 75
3. Train – 50 Ways To Say Goodbye – 72
4. Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up – 71
5. John Mayer – Shadow Days – 70
6. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe – 55
7. Boyce Avenue – What Makes You Beautiful – 53
8. Nickelback – This Means War – 51
9. Rams’ Pocket Radio – 1+2 – 51
10. Daughtry – Renegade

This second list contains the albums that I have been listening to the most in 2012. It won’t come as a surprise that most of the artist who had a song on the ten most played songs, are in this list as well. Then again, there is still some difference between both lists. For example, Snow Patrol, Coldplay and The Red Hot Chili Peppers delivered great albums, but none of their songs truly stood out over the past twelve months.

Top ten albums
1. Train – California 37 – 373
2. Nickelback – Here And Now – 359
3. Matt Nathanson – Modern Love – 346
4. Jason Mraz – Love Is A Four Letter Word – 334
5. The Script – #3 Deluxe Version – 326
6. Daughtry – Break The Spell (Deluxe Version) – 267
7. John Mayer – Born and Raised – 230
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers – I’m With You – 214
9. Coldplay – Mylo Xyloto – 214
10. Snow Patrol – Fallen Empires – 208

Last, but certainly not least, there is a list of ten artists that I listened to most throughout the year. Again, all of them have been mentioned on the other two lists. Except for Owl City. Adam Young made a lot of music, but there weren’t real songs or albums that I preferred. He is just amazing in general.

Top ten artists
1. Train 740
2. John Mayer – 684
3. The Script – 592
4. Nickelback – 591
5. Jason Mraz – 489
6. Matt Nathanson – 473
7. Red Hot Chili Peppers – 471
8. Snow Patrol – 419
9. Daughtry – 394
10. Owl City – 336

Hopefully, you all liked this short view on the music I have been into listening in 2012. Maybe it will even give you some good songs, albums or artists to listen to yourself in 2013. For me, I am sure 2013 holds a lot more good music. So hopefully, I will be able to present you all with some more great music twelve months from now.

After liberal U.S. President Barack Obama began his “War on Coal” in an effort to promot

After liberal U.S. President Barack Obama began his “War on Coal” in an effort to promote his bogus renewable energy sources such as semen, aborted fetuses, and food stamps, the American economy was torn to shreds. However, people across the world are feeling the effects of the sudden lack of coal, even the folks up at the North Pole. Surprisingly, though, people on both sides of the isle are happy with Captain Claus’s proposal to properly punish disobedient children across the world: delivering them the music of Nickelback and Daughtry.

“We were thinking to ourselves, you know, we barely have enough coal to power the operation we’ve got going on up here, so we shouldn’t be giving that out to kids,” Claus said. “Plus, coal is actually valuable. I’d rather listen to a recording of Kirstie Alley taking a dump than the latest tool rock from Kroeger and the boys.”

Lead singers Chad Kroeger and Chris Daughtry are also supporting the move as a way for more people to hear the inspirational messages of songs like “Home” and “Something in Your Mouth.” In a joint prepared statement, they said, “Rock on, bros!”

President Obama said he was satisfied with the North Pole’s decision. After his highly successful ad series simply titled “Mitt Romney Likes Nickelback” during the presidential campaign, he believes that these compact discs will deter America’s children from acting inappropriately in the future.

The federal government has advised that if you actually bought one of these albums as a gift for someone this Christmas (and they wanted it), both of you should end your lives now.

From now until New Year’s Eve, I’ll be counting down my top 100 songs of the year. Every week, I make a top 40 list, and each position gets a certain amount of points, plus, I add in some extra points for weeks at #1, which goes towards their yearly total. The survey period is from December 4, 2011 to November 25, 2012. Ties are broken by (1) peak position, then (2) weeks at peak position, and then (3) number of weeks on chart should it go that far. We’re presently at #55 on the chart, so let’s keep a-rollin’ up it.

055. Coldplay – Hurts Like Heaven (314 points) (PEAK: #12)
This was the fourth Alternative radio release from Mylo Xyloto, though it didn’t see much action on that particular chart, peaking in the top 30. It stalled out in the top fifteen on my survey. This is the band’s first album era to place four songs in my top 40, two of which went to #1. One is coming up later.

054. Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up (316 points) (PEAK: #14)
Mraz saw a surprise digital hit early on in the year from this ballad, which debuted in the top ten on the Hot 100. It crawled up to #14 on my chart, but spent nearly four months in the top 40 on the strength of a more peppy version with added drums and guitar. One of them, “93 Million Miles”, is up to #6 on my chart this week.

053. No Doubt – Settle Down (327 points) (PEAK: #9)
This was one of hotly anticipated comebacks of 2012 that ended up being a dud. “Settle” was a moderate hit at radio, but had no longevity, and was followed by another mainstream single that was DOA because of a video controversy involving the portrayal of Native Americans. This spent three weeks at #9, the band’s first entry on my chart since their remake of “It’s My Life” was #1 for five weeks back in late 2003.

052. Bruno Mars – It Will Rain (331 points) (PEAK: #8)
One of two singles in this section from the soundtrack to Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1. The only other soundtrack in the franchise to produce a top-40 hit on my chart was Eclipse, which gave us “Neutron Star Collison (Love Is Forever)”, a minor entry for Muse from the summer of 2010.

051. One Direction – Live While We’re Young (355 points) (PEAK: #2)
Somehow the most popular boy band of the year managed to place three songs within just a few spots of one another. This quickly rose to #2 on my chart before being pulled as a single in favor of “Little Things”. The group still has one more song from the debut album coming up on the countdown.

050. The Killers – Runaways (363 points) (PEAK: #12)
This band returned with a new album called Battle Born this year, but it wasn’t quite ready for battle. The leadoff single only made it to #12. Last time around, lead singer Brandon Flowers scored a solo number-one hit with “Crossfire” in the fall of 2010. Before that, the band’s “Human” peaked at #5 in late 2008.

049. Keane – Disconnected (386 points) (PEAK: #8)
Keane had an awesome 2012 on my chart, scoring their first #1 single (which is coming up later) and this #8 hit, the third single from Strangeland. It marked the first of the band’s releases to produce top ten hits on the survey since their debut era, Hopes and Fears, which launched “Somewhere Only We Know” (#7, 2004) and “Everybody’s Changing” (#6, 2005).

048. Lady Antebellum – Dancin’ Away With My Heart (395 points) (PEAK: #12)
They’re remained huge on the Country scene, but I have to admit, they’ve been working with the same sound for a while now and I think they need to experiment a little more. This was their only non-top ten single from their album Own The Night. Nothing from their newest Christmas release entered my top 40.

047. OneRepublic – Feel Again (397 points) (PEAK: #7)
Back in the day, they were one of the big acts to be discovered on MySpace. Now, in 2012, they’ve had seven top-40 singles on my chart, this one being their fifth top ten hit. New single “If I Lose Myself” should be at least a moderate success in the new year.

046. Coldplay featuring Rihanna – Princess Of China (400 points) (PEAK: #10)
The second of three entries for Chris Martin and the boys is their first collaboration with another artist to make my chart. They seem to have a thing with Asia; it was back in 2009 that they hit #5 with “Lovers In Japan”, and now, we have “China”. What’s next? Indonesia? Syria?

045. Darren Hayes – Stupid Mistake (406 points) (PEAK: #9)
He’s been around since the early days of my chart in 1999, charting with three singles as part of the duo Savage Garden before reaching the top 40 with fourteen solo records, including #1′s like “Insatiable” and “Pop!ular”. This became the third top ten hit from Secret Codes and Battleships, which hit the #10 spot on Australia’s Albums Chart last year.

044. Christina Perri – A Thousand Years (406 points) (PEAK: #9)
Perri’s biggest hit on my chart is also the second of two songs from Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 on here. It spent two weeks at #9. It’s the first “thousand” song to hit the chart since “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton, which was released back in 2002.

043. Olly Murs – Oh My Goodness (414 points) (PEAK: #7)
The third and final release from In Case You Didn’t Know was another top ten record for the former X Factor runner-up, charting at #7 back in April. He has one other entry left, which hit the #1 slot on the U.K. Singles Chart early this year.

042. The Fray – Heartbeat (427 points) (PEAK: #5)
Here’s another band whose time in the sun is drawing to close rather quickly. After two albums with one #1 single and three top ten hits a piece, this was the only major success from Scars + Stories, peaking for five weeks at #5. Followup single “Run For Your Life” barely reached the top 30 and missed the top 100 of the year.

041. Daughtry – Crawling Back To You (428 points) (PEAK: #1 for two weeks)
This was the first #1 of the chart year, spending the first two weeks of December 2011 there. It’s the band’s only entry in the top 100 as both followup singles to it failed to go beyond the top 30. “Crawling” was my #75 song of 2011.

After you’re done opening all your presents from Santa, come back on Christmas Day for #40 through #31 on the countdown, where two is better than “One”, and one actually got to Number One. Figured it out yet? If you haven’t, you will tomorrow…

Last week Daughtry came and had a concert in Fresno. I did not go, but I had three different people email me to tell me that they heard a song that instantly made them think of Brendan. It made me so happy that they messaged me because not only did they think of us but they remembered afterwards enough to take the time to message me clips of the song and lyrics. I am happy that I have talked enough about my baby that other people are comfortable enough to bring him up. As a mother of an angel baby all you can wish is that your child will be remembered. Brendan is remembered!

“Gone Too Soon”

Today could have been the day,
That you blow out your candles,
Make a wish as you close your eyes.

Today could have been the day,
Everybody was laughing,
Instead I just sit here and cry,

Who would you be?
What would you look like,
When you looked at me for the very first time?
Today could have been the next day of the rest of your life.

Not a day goes by,
That I don’t think of you,
I’m always asking why this crazy world had to lose,
Such a ray of light we never knew,
Gone too soon, yeah.

Would you have been president
Or a painter, an author, or sing like your mother?
One thing is evident,
Would’ve given all I had,
Would’ve loved you like no other.

Who would you be,
What would you look like,
Would you have my smile and her eyes?
Today could have been the next day of the rest of your life.

Not a day goes by,
That I don’t think of you,
I’m always asking why this crazy world had to lose,
Such a ray of light we never knew,
Gone too soon, yeah.

Not a day goes by,
Oh
I’m always asking why.

Not a day goes by,
That I don’t think of you,
I’m always asking why this crazy world had to lose,
Such a beautiful light we never knew,
Gone too soon,
You were gone too soon
Yeah.

Not a day goes by,
That I don’t think of you.

Cick on a song and it will dictate what kinda workout you are going to have. Here are some examples:

1. “The Change” by Evanescence: You are a freakish beast and are about to obliterate all weights that stand in your way.

2. “The Prayer” by Bocelli: You will eat a whole pizza before your workout thinking its a “carb load”. And afterwards you will have 2 philly cheesesteaks thinking its a good fast burning carb/high protein postmeal…(yeah you better be saying a prayer)

3. “Baby” by Bieber: Hmmmm…Are we going to the gym or the roller rink? Should I grab my Gatorade or Juicy Juice?

4. “What If” by Creed: Failure is a word not known by Webster because you just ripped it out of the dictionary and ate it!

5. “Gotta Be Somebody” by Nickelback: You are warming up and getting ready for the demolition work, but the blood ain’t pumping yet.

6. “Diva” by Beyonce: I thought…uhhh…I thought you were trying to win the Olympia, not America’s Top Model…odd.

7. “Fighter” by Aguilera: I can see a drop of sweat STARTING to form on your forehead.

8. ”Renegade” by Daughtry : The janitor is following you around the gym with a mop in his hand and 2 buckets!

9. “Full Circle” by Otherwise: People are jumping off machines, leaving their benches, and clearing the area as you walk towards them.

10. “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor: YOU ARE WHAT YOU LISTEN 2!

…yeah you’re bad!
