Miley Cyrus has teamed with mega producer Timbaland on his new track, “We Belong to Music,” from his upcoming album ‘Shock Value ll’.  Timbaland paid Cyrus the highest compliment when he told Entertainment Weekly, “Man, she’s gonna be like Justin [Timberlake]. She comes from that same musical background, where she’s just got it. Her voice is just there. The best way to put it is she’s special. When I worked with her, I was very impressed. I was like, ‘Whoa.’”

Ok. Just to be clear, there are two days of the year that I watch football-Thanksgiving and Superbowl Sunday. So today, after stuffing myself with turkey, I was lounging in a semi-food-coma watching Dallas play Oakland in what may be the most boring game of football of all time. Ever. So I was looking forward to whatever mediocre crap there may have been during halftime. I should have known better. After sitting through the mind numbing first half, I discovered that the halftime entertainment would be Daughtry.

Normally, I wouldn’t subject myself to that kind of torture, but the remote was further than I could reach, and I certainly wasn’t willing to get up at that point. So I watched as the former American Idol star belted out his lackluster set, along with his band (who looked like rejects from a Goo Goo Dolls tribute band). It was….disheartening to say the least. The over-commercialized, watered down pseudo rock made me want to return my delicious turkey dinner to the earth. Fuck you, Daughtry, for ruining my pleasantly boring football game and replacing it with unbridled, burning rage. Everyone, please listen to good music and stop buying this garbage. If it doesn’t make money, it will go away.

In their defense however, Daughtry was supporting a good cause. The Salvation Army.

Long before Twitter and Facebook statuses gave the young and the lonely a public forum to embarrass themselves, Youtube comments were revolutionizing our ability to make fun of others. I’ll be exploring the thousands of Nickelback, Kelly Clarkson, and Owl City songs uploaded on Youtube and sharing with you the emotional reactions they triggered in certain commenters.

The musical equivalent of a final dance with your third bf

Ah, life. That thing that happens when you’re busy making plans. A lot has changed since March, I’m sure, but I’m not going to worry about filling in the gaps.

The last few months have provided the usual hotchpotch of business, love, charity and disintegrating relationships (in reverse order of financial gain, and – hopefully – ascending order of personal growth). The Pirate and I are done, in the friendliest way possible, and even have our own break-up song:

There was a brief relationship with a new man, which was an incredible re-awakening of my romantic senses, and a subsequent break-up caused by his arguing style. So damn repetetive. I like my arguments to have the decency to appear to be moving in a forward-like direction.

I realise now… blessed hindsight… that the two years I spent with the Pirate had little to do with love, and more to do with a lack of disgust, as Eoin Colfer succinctly puts it in the next episode of the thrilling Hitchiker’s series. I do feel a little wiser than I did this time two years ago, but I also feel cynical and disillusioned, which will hopefully pass.

Cynicism aside, I’m enjoying the freedom of being alone again… and knowing that I don’t need anybody else. I had one of those rare moments of insight on a bus last week, when I suddenly wanted to sing and embrace the person sitting across from me. I managed to hold back from hugging strangers, but I did smile the whole way home.

So life is moving on, and I’m trying to keep up with it.

After 11 weeks on top, Kings of Leon relinquish the #1 spot to Kelly Clarkson. “Already Gone” is Kelly’s 2nd #1 on the Hot AC chart.  Her last song to reach #1 was “Behind These Hazel Eyes” back in 2005. That song spent 5 weeks on top of the chart.  Whether Kelly gets to spend that long on top depends on how much the chart slows down for the Holiday season and whether “Fireflies” can keep up its momentum. About 1000 spins separate the two songs (#1 and #7 this week), and “Fireflies” gained over 400 spins this week alone. It will be fun to watch. Kelly has had 4 #1s on the pop chart. Otherwise the top 10 songs have little movement, and no songs enter or exit the top 10. Moving into the top 20 this week are Kris Allen at #19 and Green River Ordinance at #20. An artist gets a new high peak on HAC this week: Michael Buble moves up to #23 with “Haven’t Met You Yet”. His previous high mark on the chart was at #24 with “Home”.

The biggest mover on this week’s chart is “Life After You” by Daughtry. In its second week on the chart, the song jumps 8 notches to #26.  Other decent moves this week on the chart include “Whatcha Say” (38-34) and “Two Is Better than One” (40-35).  Debuting on the chart this week are Carrie Underwood with “Cowboy Casanova” at #37 and Britney Spears’ “3″ at #39.  It’s Carrie’s 4th hit and Britney’s 9th.

I can’t believe my body clock is so screwed up  that i’m not getting to bed till 7am, grrr and then im sleeping throughout the day. I’m on a bloody course tomorrow as well 8.45-5pm no idea how im going to last, at this rate i will be falling asleep through it, and failing miserably

Today has been another poop of a day though, went to preston had a meeting and then came back home…not done anything and to top the day off i now have major toothache bah! I don’t know which is worse, toothache or headache. At the moment i will say toothache oww

and it feels like tonight, i can’t believe im broken inside, cant you see that theres nothing that i wanna do, but try and make it up to you…i never felt like this before, just when i leave im back for more, nothing else seems to matter, in the these ever changing games, you are the one thing that remains, i could stay like this forever…

Just can’t see the point anymore…wish my life would go back to how it use to be nice and simple the guy has pretty much made it clear to me he doesnt like me that way…which i possibly knew deep down inside. Yet do you see me backing away from him, nope. Guess who is gonna get hurt once again by him…ME hate this vicious circle. The following is an excerpt from an actual conversation between Conrad Noir and Marco Sparks last night. Yes, this is what they’re really like…

Marco Sparks: So, you’ll never believe this dream I had the other night…

Conrad Noir: I don’t know if I’m really up for a conversation about your hopes and dreams, man.

Marco: Well, when I say “dream,” what I really mean is sweaty, dread-dripping nightmare.

Conrad: Oh yeah? Shit. Nevermind. You know I’m all ears for that. Shoot.

Marco: Well, I’ll tell you about the nightmare in a second, but first let me tell you about my Saturday night…

Conrad: Always a catch, isn’t there? Shit. Okay, tell me about your Saturday ni-

Marco: It was awesome. But then, later on, I was just trying to go sleep, right? And it’s late, I don’t remember the time, but late. So I turn on the TV and put it on mute, just wanting some flickering light and alpha wave manipulation in the room. Or something.

Conrad: Sure, sure. Perfectly normal.

Marco: So then I lay down on the bed. The room I’m in though, there’s no remote. Or, if there is, fuck if I know where it is.

Conrad: Oh, yeah, man’s constant struggle.

Marco: Right, so I’m stuck with whatever the channel is because, well, I’m lazy.

Conrad: I feel that.

Marco: In this particular case, it was A&E. The former Arts & Entertainment channel.

Conrad: “Former” being the operative word.

Marco: Seriously. Airing that late evening/early morning was a seeming non stop marathon of CSI: Miami episodes.

Conrad: Wow. Ouch.

Marco: Ouch is right. And let me tell you, I could not sleep with that on.

Conrad: How do you mean?

Marco: Every five seconds they cut back to a shot of David Caruso! Constantly! And let me tell you, Caruso has two emotional speeds on that show. The first: Putting on his sunglasses. The second: Taking them off again. People could be on fire, running around screaming, bits of their skin melting off or whatever as creatures of the apocalypse commit homicides or devour souls or just what have you, and Caruso’s cool as Fonzie the whole fucking time.

Conrad: That seems accurate with the little bits of it I’ve caught occasionally.

Marco: Also, it’s freakishly bright. Like, too bright and dayglo for even Miami.

Conrad: Okay.

Marco: It would not let me sleep! I turned over, looked at the flickering light patterns on the wall, like some kind of twisted variation on Plato’s Cave and I felt like Caruso was picking me up from the airport and driving me straight to madness!

Conrad: Caruso’s like that.

Marco: This is the guy from NYPD Blue to subjected America to his ass. Why would you want to see this man’s ass?!

Conrad: Or Dennis Franz for that matter.

Marco: Well… obviously. But, so I lay there, squeezing my eyes shut. But it was no good, man. I knew that Caruso was in the room with me. Putting his fucking sunglasses on. Or worse.

Conrad: Worse?

Marco: He could’ve been taking them off again…

Conrad: Okay, so this was the nightmare?

Marco: Oh, no, this was real. Deadly real. Eventually I must’ve passed out from all the stress of his ontological torture and when I woke up, of course, A&E was still on, right?

Conrad: Yeah, of course.

Marco: So, the sun is shining through the window, birds are chirping little songs and I’m a little tired, but I’m breathing a sigh of relief. I’m all like, “Thank God, it’s morning, I made it. I survived!”

Conrad: This is going somewhere bad, isn’t it?

Marco: You bet your goofy ass it is, my friend. Because there on the TV…

Conrad: Yeah?

Marco: Motherfucking Chris Daughtry was on the TV. Somebody was actually interviewing him!

Conrad: Ugh. Gross.

Marco: Exactly! Why would anyone want to interview that fucker? Why is he on the TV? Why did my day have to start with these violent images? It was like… last night I couldn’t enter the domain of sleep and now… Now I can’t be awake with this in the world!

Conrad: I feel like I need a drink now.

Marco: Me too. From just, you know, reliving that traumatic experience. From being the plaything of the sandman.

Conrad: So what was the nightmare?

Marco: Oh, the nightmare. Yeah, sorry. That was last night. I was like in a room, but I wasn’t. I was like “the camera” or whatever. Anyway, there was a little boy and he was trapped in the room. No windows, yet there was moonlight slipping around. And he was sleeping like a little shit does and then goblins crawled out of the cracks in the walls and out from under the bed and cut off his eyelids or something.

Conrad: Damn. I like that. I mean, that’s seriously creepy.

Marco: Yeah, it was something. When I woke up, I knew you’d love it.

Conrad: You were right. And goblins, you say? Wow. Goblins. That part is especially wild. People don’t throw around the word “goblins” all that much anymore.

Marco: Let me tell you something about goblins, my friend. Something you may not know. Something very few people may actually know.

Conrad: Do it.

Marco: Goblins, man. They’re no joke. They’re fucking scary, and they’re fucked up. And they will fuck you up. You understand me?

Conrad: Yes, I believe I do. But let’s talk about something important now. Let’s talk about me and my dreams. And my nightmares.

Marco: Take aim and fire away, baby.

Conrad: So, you know, I’ve been taking melatonin a lot lately, right?

Marco: Cause you can’t get your hands on ambien, right?

Conrad: Yeah, sorta. I got tricked into trying to go all natural, which is a sham. Whenever in doubt, just go with hard drugs.

Marco: Put that on a t-shirt.

Conrad: Don’t tempt me.

Marco: But I feel you. I have several friends who don’t realize they’re becoming recreational vicodin addicts, which is cool, cause this is America and shit. But I can’t do that stuff anymore. It gives me freaky nightmares. I mean, genuinely freaky nightmares. Like, where the goblins show up and tell me I’ll have erectile dysfunction for the rest of my life and or will be forever locked in a mortgage I can’t afford.

Conrad: As long as you’re not longer dreaming about Avril Lavigne, you’ll be fine.

Marco: I’ll have you know: That was a very special time in my life.

Conrad: Anyway… me. And my nightmare.

Marco: Do it.

Conrad: So, I guess you’re supposed to take melatonin only so much, right? Until it stirs up your… well, I don’t know. Something. Some kind of chemical. I’m not a trained doctor or anything. But you take it short term, you get some rest, you move on.

Marco: Gotcha.

Conrad: But I keep taking it because it gives me juicy nightmares. And I’m a horror movie fan.

Marco: I remember that you were a Freddy guy more than a Jason guy.

Conrad: Exactly! Anyway, so the one I had last night… Wowza.

Marco: Oh?

Conrad: Oh yeah. So I’m like wandering around in this fucked up, dark version of Chuck E. Cheese’s, right?

Marco: This already sounds terrifying.

Conrad: Oh, it was. Believe you me. It so was. And there’s all these fat, sweaty white people around me.

Marco: Your ultimate nightmare.

Conrad: My ultimate daymare, you mean. But there they are. And there’s famous gross white people there too. Like Jeffrey Dahmer.

Marco: I remember that Peanut used to date a guy who looked like Jeffrey Dahmer. Man, I hated that guy.

Conrad: Me too. Well, Dahmer, anyway. But he was the guy who, later on I discovered, didn’t belong in the dream. But there was other famous people too. Like Mary Kay Letourneau. And Roman Polanski. And Joey Buttafuoco. And Debra Lafave. And Pete Townshend. And Bobby Fisher. And Gary Glitter!

Marco: Oh shit. You were at a child molester convention!

Conrad: Exactly. By accident, of course. Once I realized what was going on, I was like, “Oh shit, I gotta get the fuck outta here!”

Marco: Shit. I hope so.

Conrad: So I take off for the door, right? But right as I get to it, I notice the little bulletin board listing who all the speakers are going to be at this thing.

Marco: So, it was like a proper convention then? With speakers and talks and things?

Conrad: Yes! Terrifying, right?

Marco: Very.

Conrad: So I’m running my finger down the board, just looking at all the famous names. I remember that R. Kelly was on there, of course.

Marco: Right. Yeah. “Age ain’t nothing but a number,” after all.

Conrad: And then I get to the end. The keynote speaker.

Marco: Ooh, this is going to be good, isn’t it? Who was it?

Conrad: I’m not bullshitting you here. It was Jon Gosselin.

Marco: Oh… wow.

Conrad: I know, right?

Marco: Yeah. Wow. Eeesh.

Conrad: But, whereas everyone else had their name and like a title of what their speech was going to be about or whatever, after his name… there was just one word. One single word.

Marco: What was it?

Conrad: It was simply… “Gangsta.”

Marco: Oh. My.

Conrad: Uh huh. It shocked me away. And I sat there, in my bed, just catching my breath from the sheer intensity of the thing. And I just whispered it back to myself. “Gangsta.”

Marco: Wow…

Conrad: Yeah, I know.

Marco: Yeah.

Conrad: Yeah.

Marco: Yeah, uh… let’s talk about something else, okay?

Kings of Leon eek out 1 more week at the top of the chart this week, giving them 11 weeks on top with “Use Somebody”. Coming on strong though at #2 is Kelly Clarkson with “Already Gone”. Kelly just missed the #1 spot and ended up 10 spins behind the Kings. Look for Kelly to begin her reign at the top next week.

Uncle Kracker moves up to #5 with “Smile”. It’s the first time Uncle Kracker has hit the top 5 since 2003, when “Drift Away” peaked at #2 (and spent 10 weeks at that position). Daughtry falls out of the top 5 for the first time since the first week of July (“No Surprise” eases down to #8) Moving into the top 10 in only its 6th week on the chart is “Fireflies” by Owl City.

Lifehouse move into the top 20 at #19 with “Halfway Gone”. Reaching the top 30 are Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams” and Jay Sean’s “Down”. Debuting on the chart this week is the latest by Daughtry (#34) and Boys Like Girls (#40).

Idol Watch: Kris Allen moves up to #21, and Jordin Sparks spends her last week on the chart at #36.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones and The Salvation Army’s national community relations secretary Major George Hood announced that the group Daughtry would be the featured artists for the 2009 Thanksgiving Day Red Kettle Kick-off. The Grammy-nominated band was on hand to talk about their performance, meet Cowboys players and representatives and talk with children from local Salvation Army programs.

Daughtry is a rock band from North Carolina, formed and fronted by former American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry in 2006. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2006, reaching number one for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, sold more than four million copies and was named the number one selling album of 2007 by Billboard.

The bands’s sophomore record, Leave This Town, was released on July 14, 2009 debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 selling 269,000 copies in its first week. About, Leave This Town, Chris Daughtry says., “A lot of the lyrics are about how leaps of faith can set us free or tie us down, and realizing that we often find heartache when we run from something and redemption when we run toward something,” With this release, Chris Daughtry made American Idol history by becoming the first ‘Idol’ to have two consecutive #1 albums.

The Dallas Cowboys and The Salvation Army have celebrated the national kickoff of the Red Kettle campaign for the last 12 years, raising more than $1 billion for people in need during that time. The game and halftime show has become and annual Thanksgiving tradition for millions of football fans across the country. This year, the Cowboys will face the Oakland Raiders on November 26 starting at 3:15 pm CST.

Previous Red Kettle Kickoff halftime performers include: Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Sheryl Crow, Destiny’s Child, Toby Keith, LeAnn Rimes, Creed, Jessica Simpson, Billy Gillman, Clint Black, Randy Travis and Reba McEntire.

This will be the first Salvation Army halftime show held at the new Cowboy Stadium.

I’m not a big country fan, but I am a music fan. I watched the CMA awards last night and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of genre mixing. There were some awesome performances. Here’s some of them:

I know some of you out there have some weird thing about not liking Daughtry because he was on AI the same season Taylor was. Let’s try to get past that. Open up your ears and listen to this, Vince Gill and Daughtry sound really good together:

And this…this was the best version I’ve heard aside from the original. These guys are very talented musicians.

I thought Carrie Underwood did a pretty decent job. A friend of mine told me a story this morning that her son was watching the CMA’s and said, “Wow. That’s Carrie Underwood? I guess American Idol can really change your life. She used to be just a normal girl and now she’s hosting the CMA’s.” Yes, it can change your life, if you play your hand right.

Taylor Swift is my secret musical love. I love her music and I think she’s very talented for as young as she is. So, of course, I have to include her. She is singing Fifteen, which really holds a special meaning for me.

Oh, and Sugarland. Love them too.

There is so much great music out there and it’s silly to limit yourself to one artist or one genre even. Let yourself go explore. You might be surprised at what you find.

I haven’t watched it  in a long time, not really being a BIG country fan. When I chose music to listen to in my car, it is rock and alternative usually. Some pop I guess. I am never sure exactly what pop is – short for popular, right? meaning what they play on the radio over and over every day? the last country c.d. I purchased was Johnny Cash (his last c.d.) I don’t think it is in the car though. In my c.d. player at work is the theme from Twilight. in the player in the car is Rob Zombie. Tim McGraw – pretty awesome. Taylor Swift – what a night. Daughtry and Vince Gill together – that is actually why I watched the show.  Wonderful. okay, this is really random. ha ha
