Well, of course the concert was simply bloody amazing. All that I expected and ever hoped for, utterly no disappointment whatsoever! All of us had an amazing time that’s for sure. I screamed and jumped around like mad and sang out the words to all of the songs loudly. It was insane. As I’ve not got much time right now, I’ll leave you with a review of the show from the Toronto Sun . An update very soon.

Veteran British electro-dance-pop outfit Depeche Mode kicked off the North American leg of their so-called Tour Of The Universe in Toronto on Friday night at the Molson Amphitheatre with front man Dave Gahan looking no worse the wear.

Gahan, you may recall, had a health scare back in May when he had a low-grade malignant tumor removed from his bladder, leading to the postponement of six European dates that were eventually rescheduled. And just earlier this month, he also injured his leg on stage at a gig in Spain.

But if Gahan is feeling the effects of his recent health woes, he sure didn’t show it on Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd as he gleefully performed his trademark dance moves that included some sexy hip-wiggling, shaking his backside at the audience and twirling around with his mic stand high in the air. Yes, Gahan looked skinny, but when doesn’t he, and his deep voice was clear and strong over the course of a 22-song show that stretched over two hours.

The group, which included founding members Martin Gore on guitar-keyboards and a sunglasses-wearing Andrew Fletcher on keyboards, played on an eye-catching stage dominated by a large LED video screen and matching circular ball screen hanging above the group. Gore also looked sharp in a shiny silver sequin suit.

Unfortunately, it took a while for Depeche Mode to find their groove as they trotted out the obligatory new material from their latest album, Sounds Of The Universe, including the rather somber In Chains and Wrong, and the slightly more upbeat, Hole To Feed.

The audience, however, seemed thrilled just to have Gahan, in particular, in their presence and were on their feet immediately, cheering whenever he took off an article of clothing or was in exceptionally good dance form.

And when the hits finally kicked in – this is a group who have sold 100 million albums worldwide since their formation in 1980 – with Walking In My Shoes, which featured a backdrop of a crow on the video screen with a large eyeball projected on the ball above – the crowd couldn’t be contained as they happily sang, danced and clapped along.

A string of crowd pleasers, It’s No Good, A Question Of Time, and Precious – the latter from 2005’s Playing The Angel – were interrupted by another buzz kill song, Fly On the Windscreen, followed by Gore taking over on lead vocals for two back-to-back ballads, the new song Little Soul and Home (maybe to give Gahan a break), although Gahan eventually returned for two more unmemorable new song from Songs Of The Universe, Come Back and Fragile Tension.

The thing about Depeche Mode songs when they’re good, they’re great, but when they’re bad, they seem to go on forever. Thankfully, the second half of the show really kicked into high gear, beginning with the dramatic I Feel You, followed by the dance-happy Policy Of Truth, Enjoy The Silence – featuring Gahan, Gore and Fletcher as stoned-faced astronauts in a video – Never Let Me Down Again and an encore that brimmed with some kinky material like Master And Servant, Strangelove (featuring a video in which a young Asian woman sucked the toe of a young redheaded woman who eventually exposed her breasts), and the mother of all Depeche Mode songs, Personal Jesus.

En 1986 y después de la edición del compilatorio “The Singles 81-85″, Depeche vuelve a la carga entregando nuevo material, producido por Miller y Jones, “Black Celebration” (#4) engendró 3 sencillos los cuales no fueron tan populares como los anteriores; esto se debe quiza al cambio musical que estaban experimentado, ya que tanto las letras como la música se había vuelto más oscuras.
Otro cambio radical fue la imagen del grupo. Es a partir de este LP, que DM empieza a trabajar con el fotografo Anton Corbijn; atrás quedaron las ropas de cuero y la imagen sadomasoquista que solían usar, todo comenzo a tomar matices oscuros tanto en la fotografia como en los videos (filmados principalmente en blanco y negro). Con esto Dave Gahan se consolida como la imagen principal del grupo .

Para el año siguiente Depeche alista su nuevo LP, pero cambiando esta vez la producción, “Music for the Masses” (#10) contaría con Dave Bascombe, como productor del disco, pero según Alan Wilder, Bascombe terminó simplemente como un ingeniero de sonido. Con la edición de los sencillos “Strangelove” (#16), “Behind the Wheels” (#21) y “Never Let Me Down Again” (#22),  además del sencillo “Little 15″ (#18) editado en Europa, Depeche entra con fuerza al mercado americano.

Se inicia entonces el Tour for the Masses” (que se iniciaba en España y concluía en E.E.U.U.) y que constaba de 101 presentaciones, de las cuales la última sería registrada como el siguiente LP del grupo y su primer álbum en vivo titulado “101″ . De este LP se editaría como sencillo la versión en vivo de “Everything Counts” (#22).

Para 1989, Martin editaría el “Counterfeit” EP como solista, además de iniciar la promoción del siguente álbum del grupo. “Personal Jesus” (#13) se convertiría en el primer sencillo de nuevo disco. “Violator” (#2) que  no sería editado hasta el año siguiente. Esta vez la producción correría a cargo de Mark Ellis (a.k.a. Flood) quien le dió un nuevo sonido a Depeche Mode, haciéndolo más accesible y a la ves más sofisticado. “Enjoy the Silence” (#6) , sería uno de los temas más populares de la banda, asi como los dos últimos sencillos editados del álbum, Policy of Truth” (#16) y “World in my Eyes” (#17) . “Violator” destaca, por ser el primer álbum de DM, donde la guitarra toma un papel más importante con respecto a los discos anteriores. El álbum demostró ser uno de los más vendidos además de ser bastante influyente para las nuevas generaciones de músicos de electrónica.

Después del “World Violation Tour”, Depeche debía a comproner y arreglar los temas de su siguiente álbum; sin embargo, El grupo paso casi 2 años separado; Dave quién se había divorciado se fue a vivir  a California, seducido por el estilo de vida americano, se había convertido en un adicto a las drogas y apenas mantenía contacto con los demás miembros. Las sesiones de grabación de “Songs of Faith and Devotion” (#1) estuvieron cargadas de mucha tensión, ya que Gahan no se presentaba o simplemente se iba de las grabaciones sin decir nada, Flood practicamante estaba harto de todo y sólo la constancia y dedicación de Wilder ayudo a sacar el álbum después de muchos retrasos.

De este álbum se editarían los siguientes sencillos: “I Feel You” (#8), “Walking in my Shoes” (#14),  “Condemnation” (#9), y finalmente “In Your Room” (#8). Estos sencillos y el álbum hicieron que Depeche Mode se quitaría la etiqueta de música eletrónica y entraría ya como una banda de música alternativa (de hecho, el cambio musical fue un poco chocante para algunos).

El 19 de mayo de 1993 comenzaría la más larga y extenuante gira para Depeche; “El Devotional Tour” que comprendia 99 shows incluida una segunda gira llamada “The Exotic Marathon”; para entonces el exceso de trabajo y las malas relaciones con Wilder hacen que Andy Fletcher sufra una crisis nerviosa siendo sustituido por Daryl Bamonte para la continuación de la gira.

Después de terminada la Gira “Exotic”, Alan Wilder hace publica su separación de la banda; estaba cansado del comportamiento errático de Dave y Martin y de su pésima relación con Andy; era Junio de 1995. Alan Wilder aparecería después con su propio proyecto “Recoil” .

Para ese entonces, muchoes pensaban que sería el final de Depeche Mode.

I Depeche Mode

Il gruppo, che ha venduto più di 75 milioni di album nel mondo e che si è spesso ritrovato in testa delle classifiche musicali mondiali si esibirà a Bercy il 19 e il 20 Gennaio 2010 per presentare il loro ultimo album: Sounds of Universe.

Precursori della musica elettronica, i Depeche Mode nascono alla fine degli anni 70, durante il periodo new wave, e restano tuttora uno dei gruppi di riferimento della musica britannica.
Sempre presente sulla scena internazionale, il gruppo di Dave Gahan ha saputo attraversare il corso del tempo con grande creatività e talento.

E’ nel 1977, nella piccola cittadina di Basildon, vicino Londra, che si forma l’origine dei Depeche Mode attorno alla figura di Vincent Clarke e Andrew Fletcher. La prima formazione del gruppo si chiama No Romance in China. Ben presto anche Martin Gore, compagno di liceo, entra a far parte del gruppo.
I tre componenti del neo-gruppo, legati da una forte amicizia, sviluppano la loro passione per la musica grazie all’utilizzo di un nuovo strumento: il sintetizzatore.
Siamo in piena epoca punk e la musica elettronica inizia ad avere successo graziea gruppi come gli OMD, i Kraftwerk e gli Human League.

I tre amici alla ricerca di un cantante per il loro gruppo restano affascinati dalla voce di Dave Gahan, personaggio carismatico ed eccentrico. E’ il quarto componente della band che prende il nome di Depeche Mode in riferimento a una rivista francese e al fenomeno, tipico degli anni 70-80, dei cambiamenti repentini di mode.
I Depeche Mode, che avevano iniziato a esibirsi nei bar e nelle discoteche di Londra, vengono notati da Daniel Miller, manager dei Soft Cell, che gli fa firmare un contratto con la casa discografica Mute Records.

Il gruppo conosce il primo successo negli USA, nel1984, con People are People.
Il successo della loro musica resta costante fino al 1990, quando i Depeche Mode pubblicano l’album Violator, da molti considerato il più riuscito; pezzi come Personal Jesus, Enjoy The Silence,World In My Eyes, Policy Of Truth e Clean diventano rapidamente dei successi mondiali e i quattro ragazzi inglesi, in tour, riempiono gli stadi americani ed europei.
Giunti all’apice del loro successo, i Depeche mode, si prendono un periodo di pausa che non sarà positivo.
Dave Gahan, il leader del gruppo, reagisce male al successo e si lascia trasportare in una spirale perversa di droga e alcool che lo porterà al divorzio dalla moglie e a tentare il suicidio per ben due volte. Gahan accetta di entrare in un centro di disintossicazione e finita la sua cura il gruppo riprende a fare buona musica e registrano Ultra, album che sarà pubblicato nel 1997 e che grazie a pezzi come Barrel Of A Gun, It’s No Good e Home ottiene un buon successo. Il successo del gruppo  continua.

Quasi tutte le canzoni del gruppo sono composte da Martin L. Gore, tranne quelle del primo album Speak and Spell che erano opera di Vincent Clark.
Dal 2005 anche il cantante Dave Gahan ha partecipato alla scrittura di vari brani.

Oh Dave si me cantas "It's no good" o "I feel you" al oído no se lo que pueda hacerte LOL

Tenía que desquitarme libidinosos…

Como para recordar aquella memorable presentación en la explanada del Monumental, les estoy dejando la discografia de una de las bandas más emblemáticas de los 0chentas, vendedora de millones discos a nivel mundial y cuyo estilo inicialmente synthpop, derivo hacia un industrial revestido de cierta comercialidad, hasta llegar a la música electrónica actual fusionada con guitarras y baterias reales. Los inicios de Depeche Mode se remontan a 1977 en Basildon – Essex, cuando 2 jovenes estudiantes Vince Clarke (Vincent John Martin 03-07-1960, en voz y guitarras) y Andrew John Fletcher (08-07-1961 en bajo) forman la banda “No Romance in China”, dos años después Clarke formaría otra banda “The Plan” con 2 amigos; Robert Marlow y Paul Langwith; paralelamente Martin Lee Gore (23-07-1961 en guitarra) formaba un duo acústico con un amigo, Philip Burdett “Norman and the Worms”, pero no hubo continuidad.

Para 1979 Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Robert Marlow y el recién llegado Paul Redmond formarian otra banda “The French Look”; pero no sería hasta el año siguiente que el embrión de Depeche Mode se formaría con Clarke (voz y guitarra), Gore (teclados) y Flechter (bajo) con el nombre de “Composition of Sound” . Esto sucedía en Marzo de 1980; en mayo de ese año, “Compostion of Sound” y “The French Look” tocarían juntos en el St. Nicholas School Youth Club en Basildon.

Poco después el sonido del trio cambiaria al usar sólo sintetizadores, y es en ese momento que entraría otro nombre clave a la banda; Dave Gahan (09-05-1962) entra poco después de que Clarke lo escuchara cantando el cover de de David Bowie “Heroes”; Depehce Mode había nacido.

El nombre de la banda viene  del título de una revista de moda francesa “Dépêche mode”; fue precisamente Gahan quién sugirió ese nombre (erroneamente se le traduce como “moda rápida” o “moda apresurada” , pero el término apropiado es “noticias acerca de moda”).

El debut de Depeche aparece bajo la forma de un tema “Photographic”, grabado para el naciente sello independiente “Some Bizzarre” propiedad del DJ Stephen John Pearce conocido como “Stevo” y que se incluiria dentro del sampler “Some Bizzarre Album” que presentaba además a otros pioneros de la new wave como “Soft Cell”, “The The” y “B-Movie” entre otros. Poco después es el músico y director de Mute Records, Daniel Miller quien pone los ojos en ellos ofreciéndoles la oportunidad de grabar su primer sencillo propiamente dicho en Diciembre de 1980. “Dreaming of Me” aparecido en Febrero de 1981 llega sólo al puesto 51 pero anima a la banda a sacar un segundo sencillo; “New Life” (Junio 1981) consigue un alentador puesto #11 en los charts; pero es con “Just Can’t Get Enough” (#8) que la banda se hace conocida a un nivel más amplio.  El album debut tambien es editado, “Speak and Spell” llega al puesto 10, la banda comienza a presentarse en Top of the Pops y otros programas de TV, hasta se graba el video promocional del tema (dirigido por Clive Richardson), pero la primera separación de la banda empieza. Vince Clarke decide ponerse a un lado en Noviembre de 1981, citando diferencias musicales y como se estaba llevando la música dentro la banda. Poco después Clarke aparecería con la cantante Alison Moyet formando el duo “Yazoo” (o Yaz en América) y 3 años después el duo “Erasure” con Andy Bell.

Después de la separación de Clarke, Gore es forzado a tomar la composición de temas (previamente había compuesto dos temas para el álbum debut). A su vez, la banda pone un aviso anónimo en Melody Maker solicitando un tecladista; Alan Charles Wilder (1-06-1959) un joven músico contestó el aviso mintiendo sobre su edad para poder obtener el empleo. Wilder integra Depeche a partir de 1982 inicialmente como tecladista de apoyo y luego como miembro oficial de la banda. Wilder (el único músico con formación dentro del grupo) sería quién definiria el sónido de Depeche Mode poco a poco.

En Enero de 1982 se edita el primer sencillo de Depeche sin Clarke; “See You” (#6) aunque este y los dos siguientes sencillos “The Meaning of Love” (#12) y “Leave in Silence”  (#18) así como el álbum “A Broken Frame” (#8) serían el material de menos agrado para Martin, ya que para él, “Aún no tenian una dirección definida y arrastraban aún el estilo pop de Clarke”. Cabe agregar que se graban los videos correspondientes a estos sencillos, pero la banda al final mostró su disconformidad con el nuevo director (Julian Temple) por lo que estos videos no se encontraban disponibles comercialmente (incluso se omiten del video compilatorio “Some Great Videos”).

Un año después (Enero de 1983)  se edita el séptimo sencillo de la banda, que no estaría incluido en el siguiente álbum. “Get the Balance Right!” (# 13) presenta ya a Alan Wilder como miembro oficial y co-escritor con Gore del tema “The Great Outdoor”. Poco después aparece el LP “Construction Time Again” (Agosto de 1983) en el cual Wilder se encarga con Daniel Miller y el ingeniero Garreth Jones de la parte de producción; el álbum vendría a ser considerado el primer álbum de sónido mas elaborado, gracias a los arreglos de Wilder y en parte al trabajo de Jones. De este LP se extrajeron 2 sencillos: “Everything Counts” (uno de los primeros temas en incluir samplings)(#6) y “Love in Itself” (#21).  Poco después en setiembre se inicia el “Construction Tour” que empieza en Irlanda y concluye al año siguiente en Alemania.

Finaliza la gira promocional, y como un adelanto del nuevo álbum se edita el sencillo “People are people” (#6) que llegó al puesto 13 en Estados Unidos, siendo el tema más pinchado en las estaciones alternativas. Sire, la compañia encargada de distribuir los albunes de DM en América decide editar el EP compilatorio (#74) que lleva el mismo nombre del sencillo, y que incluye temas de los dos albunes anteriores además de ser el primer LP de la banda editado ahi.

“Some Great Reward” (#5) editado en Julio de 1984  aparece nuevamente grabado con colaboración de Jones y fue realizado en los estudios Hansa en Alemania donde David Bowie y Eno grabaron sus discos conocidos como la “Trilogia de Berlin”.  De este disco se desprenden ademas de “People are People”, los sencillos “Master and Servant” (# 9) y “Blasphemous Rumours/Somebody” (#16). Después de la correspondiente gira,  los miembros de la banda deciden tomarse un tiempo sabático después de haber trabajado 4 años seguidos, y en Octubre de 1985 se edita el primer LP recopilatorio conteniendo los trece sencillos de la banda (además de dos temas nuevos) “The Singles 81-85″  (#6) ; paralelamente se edita un mes después en Canadá y América el LP “Catching Up with Depeche Mode”  (#113) que no es sino la contraparte del “The Singles” pero omitiendo  los temas ya aparecidos en el EP “People are People” además de incluir 2 lados b (“Flexible” y “Fly on the Windscreen”).

El sónido de Depeche Mode que ahora era influenciado por el industrial, se volveria más oscuro tanto a nivel musical como lírico en los álbunes posteriores.

PREVIEW: Watch the trailer for Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are

On the eve of the premiere of Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are, Rolling Stone gives us a look at the production behind the film’s soundtrack. Both Jonze and co-composer Carter Burwell, who has worked on every Coen Brothers film plus Jonze’s own Being John Malcovich, have scored the cinematic adaptation of Maurice Sendek’s classic kid’s book. Burwell often urged musicians to approach the music in an unsophisticated manner, asking them to play like 5^th graders instead of classically trained professional musicians. Sure, we all scoffed at the release of MTV Games’ Lego Rock Band. But now alt-rock legends Blur are on board for the game, allowing you to rock out to their classic library as a Lego version of the band, says Stereogum. The game’s soundtrack reportedly consists of kid-friendly selections from Blink 182, Elton John, Incubus, The Jackson 5, Korn, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Queen, just to name a few. Available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and Nintendo DS, the game will now give “budding musicians” the chance to play alongside the guys from Blur. Woo-hoo.

N.E.R.D. has been hard at work with dub queen Santigold, reports Pitchfork. The product of the collaboration, a freshly released single entitled “Soldier”, sounds distinctly mid-80’s, combining N.E.R.D.’s distinctive funk-rock sound with a more upbeat, hardcore tempo. The synth horns sound specifically nerdy (pun intended), but sound strangely natural next to Santigold’s vocals. Check out the MP3 here.

Earlier this week, electropop legends Depeche Mode took a pretty embarrassing mis-step at one of the stops on their South American tour. As leader Dave Gahan finished “Never Let Me Down Again”, he exclaimed, “Thank you Chile!” to a crowd of adoring fans at the Explanada del Estadio Monumental. The only problem was that the venue was in Lima, Peru. Oops. Depeche will be playing in Chile later on in the tour, so the blunder isn’t completely unjustifiable. Rolling Stone has a video of the slip, and also gives us a look at some other celebrity stage faux pas, including Alanis Morisette’s mistaking of Peru with Brazil.

A&E has recently said that Michael Jackson’s children may be appearing in the new reality show entitled The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty, says Rolling Stone. While A&E had first affirmed that the children would not be included in the taping, they have now come out saying that, “Filming is taking place right now. As production moves forward, it is entirely possible that the brothers’ paths will intersect with other members of the Jackson family, who may or may not be included in the finished series. However, we cannot at this point definitively know who else may make an appearance in the series.” The statement upsets Michael’s older sister, who has said that Michael would have never approved of their involvement with the show. The show is set to air in December.

frYars ist das Alias des 20jährigen Briten Ben Garrett, dessen Debütalbum “Dark young hearts” am 13.  November erscheint. Wie Patrick Wolf mit seinem letzten Album “The bachelor” hat Garrett das Album über das Projekt Bandstocks von Fans finanzieren lassen, produziert hat Stephen Hague, der bereits für die Pet Shop Boys und New Order hinter den Reglern saß. Und den Kontakt zu Dave Gahan von Depeche Mode herstellte, der von der Musik frYars so angetan war, dass er für die Single “Visitors” gleich Backingvocals beisteuerte.

Über die Musiker hinter dem Namen Silver Columns ist noch nicht viel bekannt, außer, dass sie angeblich “in sehr bekannten Band” aktiv seien. Joe Goddard von Hot Chip hat ihr Debütalbum produziert, das im kommenden Jahr erscheinen soll, und für den Vorboten “Brow beaten” auch einen Remix angefertigt.

Dave Gahan dio el 100 por ciento en el Foro Sol

Como si fuera todo un rito ceremonial, más de 50 mil fans corearon las canciones de la legendaria banda tecno-rock Depeche Mode en el Foro Sol de la Ciudad de México, a la luz de la luna que combinó con el gran juego de luces y pantallas de esta agrupación inglesa que sigue siendo hasta ahora la más exitosa a nivel electrónico.

Mostrando más consistencia que en su presentación en Guadalajara, Dave Gahan, Martin Gore y Andy Fletcher demostraron que están más allá de bien y del mal, y que en cualquier país donde se escuche buen rock serán recibidos como dioses.

“Walking on my shoes” fue la canción que arrancó el alarido del Foro Sol, mientras Gahan se vio entregado, intenso en sus movimientos, mostrando gran soltura en el escenario.

El extásis llegó en varias ocasiones con “Never let me down  again”, ”Enjoy the silence” o la comercialísima y poderosísima “Personal Jesus”.

El público encantando, bailando, y digiriendo la leyenda de Depeche Mode, una banda que en sus inicios parecía que no durarían mucho, pero que han llegado más lejos de lo que ellos mismos calculaban.

El público mexicano como siempre demostró que le gusta consentir a sus ídolos y el Tour of the Universe fue el pretexto para una vez más disfrutar la música perfeccionista de Depeche.

Mañana termina la gira de México de Depeche Mode con una segunda presentación en la capital mexicana.

Dato curioso: Parece que fue ayer cuando este blog puso el link en vivo de la rueda de prensa de Depeche Mode en Berlín, anunciando su gira por el mundo, qué rápido pasa el tiempo.

Depeche Mode cimbró a los jalisciences

La arena VFG de Guadalajara se convirtió en un manicomio cuando Depeche Mode salió a escena para interpretar el tema “In chains”, que abrió su primera presentación en México, de las tres que se tienen programadas (sábado 3 y domingo 4 de octubre en el Foro Sol).

El cantante Dave Gahan mostró que a pesar de los duros momentos en su salud que sufrió hace algunos meses, sigue siendo un frontman de primer nivel, con su poderosa voz que hizo vibrar a los jaliscienses, mientras Martin Gore con su acostumbrada extravagancia apareció en el escenario, además del serio Andy Fletcher que se acomodó en los teclados con la concentración que acostumbra, todo aderezado con grandes pantallas.

Ya no son los años 80’s, el siglo XX quedó atrás, y Depeche ha sobrevivido a los cambios de la música a base de grandes clásicos contundentes, mientras que sus contemporáneos – léase Ultravox, OMD,  ya ”descansan en paz”- pero ellos mantienen su mito hasta en lugares tan lejanos de Inglaterra como Guadalajara, donde el público casi lloró cuando interpretaron “Enjoy the silence”.

“I feel you”, “Policy of Truth”, “Never let me down”, “Somebody”, “In your room”, “It’s no good”, “Walking on my shoes”, “A question of time, “Precious”, son algunos de los temas que interpretaron ante su jubiloso público.

Depeche el sábado y domingo llegarán al Foro Sol de la Ciudad de México, para tener esa comunión de rock electrónico que por tercera vez en su historia llevan al público de esta gran capital.

Como es ya bien sabido, la banda liderada por Dave Gahan, se presentará los días 3 y 4 de octubre en el Foro Sol de la Ciudad de México en promoción de su más reciente producción discográfica “Sounds Of The Universe”.

Ya se han revelado las bandas que estarán encargadas de calentar al público antes del concierto de la triada, dicha tarea correrá por parte de los daneses The Raveonettes el domingo 4 y los regiomontanos QuieroClub el sábado 3, fecha para la cual, por cierto, los boletos ya se encuentran agotados.

Some of the bands on the list I’ve been exposed to and some are bands that I’ve heard about but haven’t thoroughly checked out yet.  First on the list is the New York band Action Action. I heard Action Action a few years ago when the album “Don’t Cut Your Fabric to This Year’s Fashion” came out. Here is the first song that I heard off of the album, titled “Drug Like”. Verrry 80s sounding tune with big fat sawtooth keyboards and vocals that remind me of Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode. Enjoy!

No se preocupen ya voy a continuar con la retrospectiva de Depeche Mode a la par con la de Duran Duran. Por eso paralelamente voy a linkear los documentales de los albums remasterizados de Depeche Mode, que fueron publicados entre 2006 y 2007. Muchos de ellos son bastante “educativos”.

Empezamos con el documental del album Exciter, titulado Presenting the delicate and intimate side of Depeche Mode. Descarga aqui.

Este documental muestra la pre-produccion del album, el por que de los promocionales, detalles de la gira Exciter Tour 2001 y bueno nada mas. A la final me decepciono porque no se muestra mas del proceso de grabacion ni siquiera una entrevista con Mark Bell y se nota que la banda finge acerca de la opinion de este album.

Arvikabandet sitt kvar på min vänstra arm, riktigt löst. Jag hittar inte några konsertbiljetter till Depeche i Berlin under 2000 sek och flygbiljetten har gått upp med 200kr. Vafan? Det får INTE skita sig nu! Fan heller!

Okej liksom Astrid och jag ska se dom i Globen, okej. Men vi har varit så jävla taggade på Tyskland från start! Alltså fatta, vi två unga tjejer, första resan utomlands utan några föräldrar (vet inte hur det är med A, men iaf för mig) och äntligen kunna uppleva situationen: Vart vill vi gå ikväll? Hm, ja vi har ju hela Berlin att välja på!

Det finns biljetter från arrangören för de ombokade datumen i Düsseldorf i slutet av februari och de är de två sista datumen på turnén. Och sen? Sen då liksom? Så mycket som Dave pajat nu gång efter gång efter gång, är det ändå sista refrängen nu? Det känns så, lite. Eller så skrattar vi åt det om 10 år. Men jag vågar inte ta några chanser, inte när det gäller detta. Mr. Gahan har sagt det själv “If I can’t move on stage, there is no point on touring and performing. I will not become ‘a Pavarotti’ (laugh)’” – kanske inte exakt citat, men så ni ska förstå liksom. Magen, benet, rösten han börjar bli fragile, även om han har mycket kvar att ge. Usch. NEEEEJ!!! Inte Depeche, det får inte hända!

Let me take you on a trip around the world and back…

“Ależ to jest płyta!” mówię sobie po cichu kiedy Dave Gahan zaprasza mnie do zabawy. Ostatnio się z nią przeprosiłem, po dosyć długim rozstaniu na rzecz depeszowych rzeczy sprzed 1990 r. (Black Celebration) i tych nagranych po 1990, szczególnie Songs Of Faith And Devotion i Ultra, bo to takie dorosłe i takie staczanie się w dół po równi pochyłej pasuje do tej muzyki i w ogóle. Chociaż i tak najwięcej słuchałem genialnego Devotionala. W kółko i w kółko Devotional, Devotional, Devotional. Ale teraz się przeprosiłem i jest w kółko i w kółko Violator.

Ależ to jest płyta. Ależ to jest otwieracz. World In My Eyes – oszczędny, ale jednak bogaty w dzwięki, pełen emocji i jeszcze ten tekst, i jeszcze ten Gahan: “now let your mind do the walking and let my body do the talking let me show you the world in my eyes“, “let me put you on a ship on a long, long trip your lips close to my lips“.

Ależ co ja tutaj piszę. W końcu to stara dupa z tej płyty, 19 lat na karku, także kto jej jeszcze nie słyszał oprócz np. mojej babci? Nie chodzi nawet o całość – kto nie zna Personal Jesus albo Enjoy The Silence? Kto nie zna niech da kamienia. Cholernie trudno pisać o takiej fajnej muzyce. Wszystkie dobre chęci kończą się jak tylko zaczynają grać pierwsze dźwięki – kiedy ich słucham to myślę, że nie ma sensu się męczyć, bo opisać się nie da i napisać tak, że będzie to brzmiało jak Halo albo Clean też się nie da. Także ja tylko “zanurzam się” w melodie i czuję się jak mistrz. I jak ktoś nie zna to ma problem, a jak ktoś zna to może tylko kiwać głową, potwierdzając kolejne słowa mówiące o tym, że jaki to jest wielki geniusz i jaka to ogromna zajebioza.

Niniejszym podpisuję się pod wszystkimi peanami na cześć Violatora i od siebie to może powiem tylko, że po przerwie nadal tak samo kocham najspokojniejszy, najbardziej eteryczny, wyciszony i klimatyczny Waiting For The Night. Jednocześnie najlepszy, ryzykowne stwierdzenie, z tych wolnych, cichych, balladowych numerów depeszy. Jak słucham to się czuję bezpieczny. I jeszcze powiem, ze Enjoy The Silence jakoś mniej mnie rusza, ale to tylko dlatego, ze mi ciągle po głowie chodzi fantastyczna wersja z Devotionala z solówką gitarową Gore’a, bo sam kawałek oczywiście genialny, jak już zresztą napisano. Za to Policy Of Truth namiętniej niż dawniej słucham, z tych przebojowych kawałków na albumie aktualnie mój  No.1. Zamykający album Clean - dopiero teraz w pełni doceniłem ten utwór i jest to obecnie jeden z mojego top15 Depeche Mode.

“PERSONAL JESUS” INSPIRES SPIRAL STATES

Depeche Mode has been making popular music for over 20 years, and it has had an effect on millions of fans worldwide, but award-winning filmmaker, Ramzi Abed, believes he is the first fan to make a movie inspired by the band’s lyrics, music, and personal lives.

“IN A SPIRAL STATE”, which stars young upcoming starlets, Juliana Fine (“Goa”, “Anything For You”), Lizzy Strain (“The Devil’s Muse”), Elissa Dowling (“Dread’), Bianca Barnett (“Albino Farm”), and Mae Moreno (“The Boys And Girls Guide To Getting Down”), focuses on the path of two Earthbound angels, played by Israeli actors, Ofri Fuchs (“The Ungodly”) and Adam Meir (“Waltz With Bashir”) who watch over the lives of numerous Los Angeles residents, who are battling issues of addiction and heartbreak. Their main mission is to guard and guide the path of a particularly troubled young woman, Maya (Juliana Fine). The film centers around universal themes of love, loss, addiction, and salvation, all of which are central themes in the music of synth-pop sensation, Depeche Mode.

When asked about the topic and its meaning, the Director, Ramzi Abed, had this to say, “Depeche Mode has been a huge inspiration to me since I was a teen growing up in the late 80s. Martin Gore’s powerful and sometimes religious lyrics, as well as the trials and tribulations of David Gahan’s own personal life, have found their way into my head in a big way. When I came up with “In A Spiral State”, certain lyrics and music videos became subconscious cues for me emotionally, especially with songs like “Personal Jesus”, “Walking In My Shoes”, and “In Your Room”. These songs, and the feeling behind them took me to a world of angels, drug addicts, and meditation.”

The film, which will be released widely by arthouse genre distributor, Halo 8 Entertainment, on September 29, 2009, is already making news for its groundbreaking visual style, electronic musical score (by first-time composer, Ken Cravens), and the overall meaning behind its complex storyline. Like Depeche Mode, “In A Spiral State”, brings forth imagery that is religious and at times controversial. In one scene in particular, a drug dealer, high on hard drugs, makes the shape of a cross in a doorway. In the opening scene of the film, the two angels converse in Hebrew, as they float in outer space. Abed continues to explain, “Faith is a big part of our lives. Much like Martin Gore’s incredibly personal song-writing, I want to bring something near and dear to me to viewers, and make them feel the most important emotion of all, empathy for others.”
