What made the turtles a success in the past?

Ninja Turtles were a huge hit with children in the late 1980’s. The concept of a “ninja” was very exciting and still relatively new to American culture. Ninja Turtles had everything a child would want to see all wrapped up into one show, ninjas, mutants, pizza, skate boards, and funny jokes. In contrast, shows like GI-JOE were more true to life. The superhero genre had not yet taken off in the way it has over the last decade as a result, the audience was not as spoiled by special effects and big budget productions as they are today.

In 1990 the first live action movie was made for the relatively small price of 13.5 million and grossed a little over 200 million worldwide. It was the first successful live action movie that began as an animated series. People were excited to see their Saturday morning heroes come to life on the big screen. However, as Ninja Turtles grew more popular, more hands went in the decision making pot. Passion and creativity were slowly replaced by a committee of businessmen. It was unfortunate that the next three films did not find the same success as their predecessor.

Our challenge is to bring back the fire and excitement that people had for the first live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

2nd Part of Yuqin’s Test Shoot. It was dull grey skies as it has been raining a lot lately. I used a gold reflector to bring in some of that warm dawn-like quality light back onto her face.

Awakening to a new dawn, – we must remember that every day is a new dawn, a new opportunity to start again, another shot at getting it right.  No matter how bad life might have been in the past, today is a brand new day.

Nichols: Stimulus Grants To Fund Fuel Reduction, Forest Health Projects

Stimulus monies from the Federal Government was awarded to the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) when a bill passed Congress earlier this year called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The ARRA gave the ODF 6.4 million dollars to be shared between state and private forest landowners to build up and restore ecosystems and reduce forest fuels wildfire hazards.

Private landowners are encouraged to contact the ODF to benefit from a 3.9 million dollar part of the award focusing on reducing hazardous fuels in areas that have high risk of forest fire. Help will be given directly to private landowners so they can either do the removal themselves or hire a contractor. This could possibly create jobs and economic benefits for forest communities. The remaining 2.4 million dollars will be spent reducing fuels in ODF interfaces that pose risk to people and property, as well as reducing progress of fuels buildup that pose wildfire risk to private landowners, cutting the cost of fighting fires in these interfaces.

Other grants were awarded for riparian repair, diseases affecting oak and tan oak trees, and invasive plant control. Other monies will be spent developing surveying and monitoring for Swiss needle cast (affects Douglas firs). Counties to receive funds to restore natural regime and high-risk wildfire funding are Jackson, Josephine, Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson, Linn and Lane counties, and will provide communities with local contractors money to boost their services.

Chasing a San Francisco dawn shot when all the elements line up has taken many many trips back and forth to this location(s). There are so many vantage areas in this area, lining up one that you think is the best you can find is another, I am always self checking the decision. While the location is dead simple to get to, making the finer detail choice of where at the location to shoot is not. I have hiked down, up, to the left and right all cool angles, but I think this maybe my favorite little spot …

I was not leaving much to chance this time round, the evening before after I shot the night shot I hiked to a little area to confirm the morning shoot. Morning shoot confirmed, time to get a feed from the little Pizza Place in Sausalito. Pretty god Pizza, Awesome landscape image on their wall inside the restaurant .

With a 4am wake up Iphone buzzer I was out the door by 4.15am and down by the waters edge in Sausalito with my morning coffee by around 4.45am … After spending a few moments sucking in as much of Sausalito as I could I ventured off to the morning shoot.

Now on the way to the shoot you pass SO MANY more cool spots to view the city and the bridge that its real hard not to stop and starting shooting all of them one by one. But I had promised myself a image I have wanted for a LONG ASS TIME and this morning was going to be one of the last chances. So struggling past location after location I moved up to the area I need to be and started out on the hike … Not an overly long hike, but dark and spooky with the Point Bonita Lighthouse which you can not see through the fog but can hear its horn loud and clear. I had thoughts of the movie “Interview With A Vampire” where they drive across the bridge at the end of the movie I think it is, spooked the crap outta me for a moment before I came to my senses and thought, I’ll just stab the crap out of them with the tripod and then beat the living shit out of them with it … The shit that goes though my mind when given the chance in those situations …

Dawn was breaking first light was just visible and I was set up on my marker from the night before  (a small pile of fist sized rocks) Hey nothings left to chance when time is short!

Just above the fog with the lights of San Francisco stilling lighting up the bay and an orange sky, this looked like a good morning.

Thanks Yuqin. This was a test shot done over the weekend for a new face at Jurong Park. Sunset behind the frangipani tree and an SB-600 on the camera left that the model held. One more good shot from this shoot. I’ll put that up another day.

It’s been three nights in a row now, that I’ve stayed up till dawn reading an entire book per night. I know I can’t keep this rhythm going for long, but I like it. Reading for what seems like 8 hours straight. Exhausted, but finally willing to go to sleep, because I no longer have to know what happens next. It reminds me of being twelve years old again.
