I wore this out on a hot summer’s day because wearing tights was not an option This dress only cost me $15 from Ally Fashion on sale. The great thing about the Perth City store is that the downstairs section has every item on sale so you can always grab a bargain. This dress would have normally cost $40.

I wore this with a white belt, white headband, white ballet flats and a cupcake necklace. I attempted to create a nice day dress look that could be worn to high tea or a family lunch. It’s very simple and didn’t take many accessories to create.

The belt I bought in Singapore which if I remember was 3 for $10.

There was a fantastic photo booth that we obviously took advantage of, maybe a little too much. Photo booths are always fun and interactive for a party, so that was a definite plus. The great part about this one was that you could select which photos you wanted and email them to yourself and get print outs right away.

Another plus was the event location and decor. The W Hotel is absolutely gorgeous and this lighting was amazing. It was very chic and modern.

There was an open bar, which was obviously great. That was probably the smartest thing they did with this party, because I’m pretty sure that’s what kept people there for so long. The huge downside was there were hardly any passed appetizers. Usually at parties like this they are floating around everywhere, but I saw them twice within the 2 1/2 hour time frame that we were there.

There were dresses displayed as such with different neighborhoods above, which I really didn’t understand why or how they were categorized. Not to mention the selection of dresses they had was horrible. I’m a fan of Rent the Runway, they have great dresses to rent from fabulous designers, but I didn’t see anything that I was truly interested in. The set up made it really difficult to look at the pieces as well because it was very clustered. The dresses were not from designers that they generally boast about having on their website and weren’t very fashionable pieces. Definitely not applicable to the demographic that attended the party.

*A really cool aspect to having the dresses there was that they had iPads and laptops around so that you could actually look at the site and rent dresses with a 50% off discount code you got for attending. This was great, but should have been advertised more so people were aware.

I was expecting a full runway show, I mean that would only make sense with the name of the company. However, there was nothing like this. There were a few girls walking around in the dresses, but there was no indication that they were with the company or modeling the dresses they just looked like any other attendee. There was no announcement or talk about any of the dresses, the company or anything. The fashion director was supposedly in attendance, which would normally mean he would speak but didn’t even announce himself. It was just sort of odd to me that there wasn’t a focus on the real purpose of their company or any talk about the event. Altogether, there are many improvements that could have been made to this event. It was really just pointless, but needless to say since I was with my best girl friends we still had fun just being together.

Now that I’ve got that review out of the way I’ll get to the fun tips on transition outfits!

Day to Night Transition:

Since I stayed downtown after work until the event I had to make my dress office appropriate. Obviously with that crazy net back it’s definitely the most professional dress. Here’s some tips on making a cocktail dress work friendly with a transition to your event.

This dress is so gorgeous! The print is super fun and I love how bright it is. (Macy’s – Material Girl $14.99) Since the back is cut out, a sweater is a definite must for the office. (Target – Mossimo here for $19.99) Black opaque tights are also a really good addition since it helps to make up for the shorter length of the dress.

These black flats are perfect for the office because it definitely tones down the dress. (Kmart – Route 66 $5) It helps that they’re also super comfy so my feet wouldn’t be hurting by the time I went to the event.

Night:

Obviously adding in heels changes the dynamic of the outfit, a lot! This is probably one of the easiest things you can do to transition your day outfit to a night outfit.

These two tone black cut out heels were absolutely perfect. I love that these are different from a typical pair of black pumps and it matches the geometric feel of the dress. (Aldo – $100)

Another step in transitioning your outfit for night is to add really fun earrings, or any other accessory.

I got rid of the cardigan to show off this gorgeous back detailing. I love how different these details are, definitely not a typical lace covered back.

I kept my make up neutral during the day with no eye shadow, but for night I added in some gold and green eye shadow to match the dress and create a really fun smoky eye. Make up alters the look of your outfit a lot and can really add some fun for a night out.

Hi readers! On this side of the hemisphere I’ve been waiting and waiting for the weather to warm up so that I could wear my jewel-green, printed maxi dress. Finally we had a warm, sunny day on Saturday! This dress is one of my favourites because of its striking colour, beautiful material and flowing design. The beautiful green tones make it suitable for both a casual day out as well as for a more dressy occassion. Actually it looks amazing at night because of the way the light illuminates the fabric, bringing out the full intensity of the green.

I thought I would try out a bright red lip colour with this dress since I wanted to play with intense colour. I also wore my precious gemstone jewellery to complement the look.

I have to say that I’m totally loving playing with different looks to show on my blog! Since I’m still relatively new to blogging it’s been great to explore my creative side and experiment with different pieces – for better or worse – and be inspired by mediums such as other fashion bloggers, trends, the runway….it’s endless! And I’m enjoying every minute of it!

Here’s an outfit I wore for 20 hours from day to night til the morning then late afternoon. It withstood breakfast at Rise, visiting the Buddhist temple, eating ice desserts in Chinatown, shisha and mojitos at a busy bar in Santosa, eating the famous Singaporean chilli crab at Jumbo restaurant for dinner, clubbing in Avalon nightclub until the early morning, then gambling in Marina Bay Sands’ casino until the afternoon and finally, relaxing by the pool, after no sleep, drinking lychee martinis until early evening.

I’m wearing a pale pink, pleated maxi skirt from Zara, a flower detailed, pale pink, draw string top from Topshop. Underneath I’m wearing a pale pink chequered bikini top and plain pale pink bikini bottoms both from H&M, glitter sandals from Miss KG and bag by Mulberry.
Lipstick is Rouge Tevali (756) by Dior.

With this current heat wave, many will find it hard to go out and look hot while still staying cool.  I have styled 5 different outfits for 5 different occasions to ensure that you won’t have that problem.

1. Day Outfit

In the heat, maxi dresses are perfect for airing out while still looking stylish.  Pair with a floppy hat to protect and shade your face when walking around during the day.  You can also wear a nice pair of wedges or some white flip flops depending on where your going.  PS. I actually have this dress and love it!

2. Beach Outfit

When chilling on the beach under the hot sun, we wanna be cool.  Instead of just wearing a cover up (or you have to go somewhere after the beach), slip on a loose romper with a floppy hat and flip flops for a comfortable and casual look.

3. Theme Park Outfit

Theme Parks are the perfect place to go during the summertime.  But these place can also be super hot and uncomfortable to walk around all day.  I paired a white bandeau with a sheer floral top(these are super airy and will let every breeze catch you) white short and some black gladiators.

4. Dinner Outfit

Most places get cooler as dinner time gets nearer but if it’s still hot where you are I have the perfect outfit for you.  Pair a high lo tube dress with some brown wedges for a put together, stylish yet comfortable look.

5. Night Outfit

For a night out we all want to look hot and sexy but most options show sweat and in the heat there will be lots of it.  Pairing this lace white tank top with a floral high lo skirt and gladiator style heels will look hot and won’t show any sweat.

Well this ruffle, low-back, wrap top from French Connection totally redeemed that sting of defeat I’ve felt all too often. I saw it in the store, fell in love with it, but somehow managed to resist its seduction. A month later, I was visiting friends in NYC and doing some shopping in SoHo and—BOOM!—saw it for 50% off in my size. I win! It’s that victorious feeling that has me fully addicted to eBay.

Creepy toes aside, these crinkly, soft linen pants are some of the most comfortable I own. And nothing says “summer” like white linen paired with an eclectic bead necklace that I actually found on the beach while lifeguarding. In fact, during the five summers I spent as a lifeguard on the Vineyard, this necklace was the only thing I ever rescued. Go me.

Since April showers bring May flowers, I thought it’d be a perfect time to whip out this fun, semi-sheer floral blouse that I scored at LF’s semi-annual sale last fall. The only problem is that apparently April showers also bring May wind. Lots and lots of wind.

Squatting against the seawall was the only solution to the wind, so the result is a plethora of awkward squatting pictures.

But in all seriousness, my friends and I made up a dance to “Peaches and Cream” in the eighth grade that would put professional choreographers and dancers to shame. Middle school dances didn’t even know what hit them when that jam came on.

And now that I have absolutely no idea what I’m even talking about…the outfit. The shorts are totally see-through, but comfortable and adorable so it’s worth going commando for a day. I stole the chain necklace from Lil’ Wayne. The end.

I realize that a far more productive way to celebrate would be to plant a tree or participate in a trash cleanup, but this Earth Day outfit will have to do.

I’m qualifying this outfit as Earth-friendly because the main pieces are recycled. Not in the sense that they were made from recycled materials or molded out of plastic bottles, but “recycled” in that I got them from eBay.

A big misconception about buying clothing from eBay is that it’s ripped, covered in pit stains and smells like a thrift store. Not the case at all. A large majority of the clothing on eBay is new (sometimes still with the tags), and being posted by boutiques and department stores because they can’t sell it in house. This could be for a variety of reasons: It has a small defect, it’s out of season, or it’s been returned (a shocking number of stores will THROW AWAY clothing that’s been returned, even though it’s in perfect condition!). By shopping on eBay you’re saving those duds from the landfill and helping out ol’ Mother Earth.

I know. I’m wearing Dolce & Gabbana and T-Bags and calling it an Earth Day outfit. I’m a douche. But the point of this is that giving discarded clothing (or anything else, for that matter) a second life benefits the environment, your wardrobe and your wallet. A win-win-win.

And before you get any perverted ideas, the underwear I’m wearing is NOT secondhand or purchased from eBay. That would just be weird. But, I did wear some hanky panky undies made from organic cotton. Boom. Saving the planet, one thong at a time.

Ok, so I picked a weird location to photograph this outfit. As a matter of fact, had children actually been present, I’m pretty sure I could have been arrested. But that’s neither here nor there.

Spring is officially here, which means it’s time to retire my black-black-and-more-black dressing habits and outfit myself in bright colors. Especially with Easter this Sunday. But while I want nothing more than to wear white, neon and floral-print everything, whipping out this spring attire might be a little premature. For one, I am still paler than Edward Cullen. And on top of that, I had to photoshop my hard-as-a-rock nipples out of every picture. It’s warm for this time of year in Boston, but it’s not mini-dress warm.

I’m obsessed with denim lately, and couldn’t decide between the vest and the button-up, so I did a quick outfit change.

This little photo shoot pretty much screams “High school senior yearbook square!” But what-ev-er. The old tractor in my parents’ backyard is badass, and when I was visiting for Presidents’ Day weekend I had to do something to fill my day.

I love plaid and I love fur so I decided to combine the two for this game of dress-up. I added some Carolina blue nail polish for a little “pop of color” in this neutral-heavy outfit. I also added a big heap of cornball as I posed crouched on a rock overlooking my parents’ pond, clearly deep in thought.

For some unfortunate reason, I felt the need to do the “I’m flying, Jack! I’m flying!” Titanic pose in 90% of the pictures I took—example #1,458 that I am horrible at pretending to be a model.

I paired the shoes with a simple white swing tank with a black lace bandeau underneath—a move that I wholeheartedly regret. Strapless bras/bandeaus have to be the most annoying thing women endure after periods and that whole giving birth thing. They don’t stay up, they make your boobs look like they’ve aged 30 years, and you end up adjusting them every five seconds. I hate them. But I love strapless and skimpy tops. It’s a vicious cycle.

Today’s post is all about the army jacket (particularly in green). I know it’s getting hot outside, but as the summer settles in there will be days a nice jacket could complete an outfit. You might not think of army green as a base color, but let your imagination run free! Whether it’s other neutrals like creme and black or pops of color like blue and orange, you can’t go wrong.

If you are out & about, I suggest wearing the army jacket with a white vneck and some shorts (whether that means colored chinos or a good old pair of jean shorts). Since army green is a great base color, you could do a color on the bottom and the whole look would still flow. Throw on a pair of flats or sandals & you are ready to hit the streets.

If you are going out for lunch or some day-time event, a casual sundress is befitting to wear underneath the jacket. Paired with a great pair of wedges, it gives it more laid back but put together look. The whole outfit reads chic without trying too hard.

If you are going out at night, a nice skirt in a metallic color with a blouse underneath the army jacket creates an effortless & fresh take on a night-out outfit. The stripes add dimension and the sequins add texture. Together they make one happy outfit and one happy gal.
