(Wikipedia page, but I recommend the first link). If you stick to just years from 1900 onwards it’s very simple. Could be a geeky ice-breaker at parties to tell people what day they were born on.

I’m fairly certain I remember a TV one-off in the 1980s where some unfortunate autistic man was subjected to a “Mastermind“-style interrogation. The only thing this poor man could do was tell the day of the week for any date. Probably he’d stumbled upon this method …

I must say that I’m fairly new to Animal Collective. They’ve been around for ages and they’ve always been there for me to listen and suggested – on the radio, through NME, Last.Fm etc. – but I’d never really bothered. Same goes with Bombay Bicycle Club really. But through the magic that is Spotify (and of course a little bit of Zane Lowe) I managed to stumble across this gem. God knows how to describe it or what genre to put it under. It is samba, electro, LSD inspired and a ridiculous collaboration of everything else all pushed into 5 mintues. The amount of layers they must have had to make this boggles the mind as it’s everything but simple; I’ve said for a long time that my favourite types of music and nice and simple. But this is an exception. Listen to it and be confused. Very confused.

I am reminded of an observation shared last November by epicurean writer She called Thanksgiving “a

I am reminded of an observation shared last November by epicurean writer She called Thanksgiving “a food writer’s most-hated holiday,” adding:
“We rewrite the food and wine pairings every goddamn year, and readers are totally happy with the tips: turkey breast up, glass wine on your rigth hand no need to be Beaujolais”

Food-wise, Thanksgiving is one huge sacred cow. Most people are more than happy to see the same spread every year. It’s nothing if not a grand exercise Comfort Food. Messing with the menu or prep is asking for trouble (at my house, we don’t even vary the rice with gandules, and have to have one pot of cranberry sauce, one without).

Wine-wise, on the other hand, Thanksgiving has come to be anticipated and embraced as a free-for-all. Different wines every year are the happy norm (with precious few even being remembered from last November). In fact, if you give-thanks with lots of wine peeps it can even be a sort of reverse scavenger hunt—wines turn up that you’d never even think of looking for. Most important of all, no matter what bottles (or even boxes) make their way in the door, chances are good that everyone finds a wine they like at Thanksgiving. And isn’t that what it’s all about?

There is no doubt in my mind that the dramatic evolution in America’s and Puerto Rico approach to wine for Thanksgiving is due largely to the Web and Restaurant family lunch. More so than directing specific wines into specific hands, the widespread on the web, News and Magazine of appropriate turkey partners has created a condition of positive laissez-faire. Thanks to the Web, it’s all good on Thanksgiving.

So what’s next? I am suggesting here—on the Web—that wine lovers declare Thanksgiving as a wine holiday.(another to Puerto Rico of course)
In fact, confining it to one day seems counterproductive. Let’s make it…a whole fortnight. Two weeks of happy wine-picking. And then, maybe, we can spill the holiday back. Just think: next year, say around November 8th, all those Halloween super-stores get transformed into Thanksgiving Wine Outposts, where (permits permitting), green-market style, vendors can show off their wine wares fit for man, bird or beast…. Call it a dream.

Maybe that’s a little far-fetched. But this I do know: People are having fun with the whole question of what to enjoy with turkey and relatives alike. That alone is reason next Thursday to pause and give thanks for how the wine has made on the food too… Thanksgiving a true feel-good day for wine.

Marce’s 2009 Gracias Top 10

At our house, where we have anywhere from 12 guests every year for Thanksgiving, I am never quite sure precisely which wines are going to get opened. That’s part of the fun of hosting—being able to run down and grab something I think of. But here are my probable picks for a Gracias Top 10:

* Beaujolais Nouveau. This stroke of marketing genius still deserves a spot at the table. I plan to buy 2 bottles of Georges DuBoeuf this Thursday and test them with my family. If it earns a thumb up, will buy more next week.

* Off-dry Riesling. from the get-go, and provides a fruity foil to sweet and tart and gamey flavors alike.

* Côtes-du-Rhône. If not now, when? All-purpose vino, made irresistible in the stellar 2007 vintage.

* Provence Rosé. It’s a good year to toast the way Europe rallied to reassert the spiritual home of classic dry pink wine. Might also result in pleasant summer flashbacks.

* Pinot Noir. This is the one bottle I’ll make a high-ender, as a reward for the conscientious pinot lovers.

* Oregon Pinot Gris. A wholly under-appreciated American white wine. I have a bottle of King Estate rattling around downstairs; time to share.

* Bordeaux. but ready to drink Bordeaux, that is. No-thin’ fancy. I crack one open every year, with fine results.

* Rioja Reserva. Like Bordeaux, a quiet crowd-please, and worth stepping up to the Reserva level. Food-friendly 4-ever viva!

* Buttery Chardonnay. Keeps the wife and others happy. That’s important.

* Pedro Ximenez. Nothing says hola! to a parade of pecan/pumpkin pies also good with “flan de calabaza” like Pedro-Ximenez.

Everyday is the same for me. I’m basically reliving each day over and over. Every weekday, I wake up, school, home, homework, maybe gym sleep. Weekends, wake up, morning routines, gym, home, do nothing.

It is so bland. There is never anything new. I fell pathetic as my friends tell me about their exciting life, talking to interesting people, doing something different something that is not within my day’s schedule. I never have any stories to correspond to the stories that is told to me about someone’s life. I’m always the listener. Awe-ing at the juicyness of people’s day.

Is it sad that the only new stuff that occurs during my day is seeing something new on the internet (eg. youtube, movie) ?

I talk to the same people everyday, I see the same people everyday. I don’t even know when was the last time I have met someone new that is the least bit interesting to spice up my day. I wake up everyday thinking ‘Another day, I hope something out of the ordinary happens.’ I don’t try to expect much, maybe just being able to talk to someone new, see something that is worth remembering.

I get upset when I even think about it. Another point that tags along the lines about my life being boring and dull. All the time I leave my phone somewhere, decide not to touch for maybe half the day in hopes of new notifications. Maybe someone decides to text me out of the ordinary. Maybe someone thinks I’m important enough to just give me a call to say hi. Finally, I decide to turn over my phone. There is always a state of anxiousness right before. It never follows through. Nothing, nada, just my wallpaper of muscular back with slight sight of butt crack. Sigh. Some people are just so interesting.

My days are so predictable. This is why I love doing something different, going somewhere that isn’t here. To stretch what I’m trying to say, something different for me is like escape from reality. It’s unreal, who would think anything interesting is happening in my life? Oh my.

lyrics

And some man live his life
For profits alone
That very same man
He lives his life all alone
And the road to life
Yes it goes up and down
Doesn’t really matter
As long as the music goes on
Hey mister collie man
Why don’t you come round no more
Hey mister collie collie man
Don’t you hear me troubled call
Hey mister collie man
Look i didn’t come to disturb
You best not be come ’round here
Unless you’ve got me sensi herb
I never needed any
Reason for me to say
Through all them troubled times
Yes me love you any way
And the roughest path
You know the rocky rocky road
You know that
Life and love is a
Heavy heavy load
Hey mister collie man
Why don’t you come ’round no more
Hey mister collie collie man
Dont you hear me troubled call
Hey mister collie man
Look i didn’t come to disturb
You best not be come round here
Unless you’ve got me sensi herb
You best not be come round here
Unless you’ve got me sensi herb

Stiamo raccogliendo adesioni, saremo in piazza.

Caspita. Mandando all’aria trecentomila processi per salvarne uno?

Sa quanto turn over c’è in parlamento?

Perchè purtroppo i deputati sono scelti dai leader.

Sacrosanto.

Fanno male a negare.

No. Sempre contro.

E l’editto bulgaro contro Biagi, Luttazzi e Santoro?

No, è chiarezza. Meno ipocrisie, meno equivoci. E poi, purtroppo c’è sempre Fritella.

A me pare che vada sempre in onda, ogni settimana.

Siamo antiberlusconiani e siamo fatti benissimo?
Rappresentate perfettamente un target. Per fortuna è un target minoritario.

da Il Fatto Quotidiano del 20 novembre 2009

———————–o———————-

Che dite? A me m’ha convinto…

Job Description

I work in the art department under the supervision of Steve Martin, one of the art directors, who passes work over to me. It begins with an Art Department Work Request Form that Steve hands to me which is basically a visual merchandise order that is requesting artwork to be designed and formatted to fit in a specific area. Each form contains the dimensions of the area in which the artwork is to cover, such as a window or light box, along with a designated image type(s) (e.g. surf, skate, snow, girls, logo, lifestyle, or boys) that will be used as the primary artwork that I must then re-layout to appropriately fit within in the dimensions. The form also contains information such as store location, job number, job due date, etc.

After looking through the form, my job, then, is to create a folder with the job name and number on my computer in which all art files will be saved, create a Photoshop document to the specified size and specs, layout the designated artwork to fit in the document size making sure nothing is being cut off or covered, burn the flattened .TIFF file to a CD, and print a small preview of the design with the job name and number on the bottom of the printout. Finally, I give the form, CD and printout back to Steve for him to send out to a printing company to be produced.
