I usually knock out blogs in my lunch hour….well…..lunch half hour by the time I’v

I usually knock out blogs in my lunch hour….well…..lunch half hour by the time I’ve got me grub and wolfed it down. Not for the past week or so though. Oh no. Lunchtime’s have been spent wandering aimlessly around the West End hoping that something jumps off a shelf, slaps me in the face and tells me that my Mum would love it.

It was a bit of an effort but the shopping’s all done and dusted. Finished it this afternoon I did. Just had to visit John Lewis for the sixth day on the spin to get the old girl a dressing gown (don’t worry she won’t be reading this shit).

I had no idea what department you would find a dressing gown in. Had to call the girlfriend in the end and get some directions. Lingerie section. Who’da thunk it huh? I never venture down to the lingerie section, the word doesn’t even register in my brain. I don’t get a hard on or nuffin like that. I just get a bit anxious looking at girls looking at pants. It’s not so bad in John Lewis though. It’s all middle-aged housewives so you don’t feel like a perv……or is that more pervy?…..I dunno. Got the job done with minimum fuss though. Unlike yesterdays trip to Selfridges. Loads of Agent Provocateur birds handing stuff out in stockings ‘n’ that. I was so entranced I ended up on the fourth floor. I don’t even remember getting on the escalator. I don’t know how blokes cope if they’ve got a half decent bird in that gear. I’d be finished before I’ve started.

Anyway. I realised during these traumatic days of Xmas shopping that I’m treating my girlfriend a bit too well. I remember when we first started going out she’d be constantly saying “I want” “I need” and getting gifts was easy. If you only remembered half the things she wanted or needed then you were good for about 58 presents. Now days though she appears to want for nothing. I suppose when you’ve got a fella like me what else do you need? Lucky bitch.

Got her some stuff that could be a bit hit and miss. It’s her birthday in Jan as well, I’ll be well and truly lost when that comes around. Got their family a present. They’re all grown up now so they complain a bit about Xmas being a bit boring. They’ll probably read this so I can’t disclose what it is, but it’s got the potential to ruin their day……or at least cause a massive argument. God that would be amazing. If I could start ruining days without even being there I’d be so proud of myself.

It’s my last day at work today so I’m off to play Hungry Hungry Hippos and Pop Up Pirate. I LOVE the last day of term!!!

Oh, before I go. I was coming out of John Lewis via the food department earlier. Some old girl knocks a jar of pickles off the shelf and they smash at my feet. She didn’t bat an eye and fucked straight off leaving me to cop the disapproving looks. I didn’t know what to do. Ended up just getting flustered and pointing to the poor old cow saying to strangers that “it was her, it wasn’t me……it wasn’t me…..”. She looked back at me with this dough eyed innocence. For a second even I thought I was lying. I swear she smirked as she turned away. Crafty little bastards those OAP’s. I reckon she was on the rob as well. She’ll probably cite her Alzheimer’s if she get’s caught. Seriously. Don’t trust them. Calculating old fucks.

Have a good Xmas party people! Mine is going to made bearable by corrupting my sweet little niece. I think we could be spending some more time on the naughty step.

Anarchy!

It’s been a bit of a quandary for me recently deciding whether or not to blog about the clothi

It’s been a bit of a quandary for me recently deciding whether or not to blog about the clothing line that’s had me looking like such a cool mother fucker for past couple of years. You want to let people know about something you love, but on the other hand you don’t want any old twat stealing your vibe.

Unfortunately the good folk at errrr Folk have gone and fucked it all up by doing too well. The bastards.

I was pleased when I heard news of them extending the flagship store on Lambs Conduit St to two floors. They were doing well, and rightly so, but now they’ve opened a 2nd store just off Brick Lane. There’s no point trying to keep quiet about it now is there. Every sap’s over there at the weekend now days.

With a simple but quirky design ethic and great attention to detail, they’re consistently knocking out must have pieces. I can’t think of another label that has me wanting pretty much everything they produce.

These are some of my highlights from the latest line, floating my boat in a big way they are:

You really should pop in and check it out. Some of it isn’t the cheapest, but twisted classic design won’t be heading anywhere will it. So un-like your mates who rape the high street you won’t look like a prick when you’re checking out photos from more than 3 months ago. The staff are a friendly bunch as well, be warned you might end up in there for a while having a chat. If they like you they might even knock a few bob off. Can’t say fairer than that can ya.

Right. Let’s get busy. I’ve got some mad catch-up to do. Been taking quite a bit of time off work lately. Trying to use up holiday before the end of the year. I’m definitely missing a trick. Next year I’ll be taking my quota by May and chucking in sickies every other Monday and Friday for the rest of the year. Some of the people I work with must live in fucking dungeons judging on how many “colds” they get. Suppose I should feel sorry for them not having luxuries like central heating, hot water and fruit. I’m half expecting to see an appeal e-mail asking for a fiver a month when I come into work now days.

If you could spare just £5 a month you could save my ears from listening to people constantly complain about how busy they are…….actually I think I might get the appeal going. Could get the sickly fuckers some multi-vitamins for a start.

I’m a bit of a dour bastard today. I think I’m just a bit annoyed about missing the Xmas party to be fair. I think I’m more annoyed at the fact that there appears to be zero gossip. No fingering in the toilets, nuffin. There should always be someone dreading coming to work the day after. It’s a rule that should never be broken. I remember I was the talk of my first ever office party when I was 17. Took until February for the gossip to stop. Dishing a bit of stick out to a slapper at work is probably my favourite bit of Xmas and I don’t even get to do that this year. Fuck it. I might just make something up. They’ll wish they stood on a table and got their tits out. That’ll learn ‘em.

Anyway.

First up there was the Bare Bones 2nd issue exhibition. Managed to worm our way in after about an hour of hiding from the crowds in the Owl and Pussycat. Worth the wait it has to be said. Good it was. Had some of the housemates find their favourite page. Gilbey had 3 favourite pages…..although I suspect he just likes a bit of a pose.

Javvy rocked up looking like Del Boy and started taking pictures of people’s eyes for some reason. Someone suggested he was trying to rip off Rankin. Whoever said that must’ve been pretty stupid. The only Rankin he knows is the wafty garage MC from the nineties. They came out alright though. More to do with the fancy camera than any idea of photography or art.

In a new move the featured artists are producing limited runs of original A5 pieces for twenty quid a pop. Some really good bits there. Having turned up quite late I did miss out on a few that I would’ve definitely gone for. Namely this one by my old mate Harry Malt. Those of you who check in regularly would know that the inspiration behind this was our night in watching that crap Channel 4 3-D stuff. I should surely be entitled to a percentage of the sale. That’s the way it works right?

I did pick up these two rather lovely bits though. You can’t go wrong with a bit of Johnny Cash can ya. Just have to get my arse in gear and get them framed now.

There’s also some larger works going for (I think) £120. Again, there’s some really decent stuff. Bit of an investment as well. I can’t imagine you’ll lose any money on them. Any of the stuff would make someone a nice Xmas present. Get yourselves along and check it out for yourselves. Or have a look at the gallery web-site and see if anything takes your fancy on there. Either way. CHECK.IT.

I think I’ll have to call it quits for now. This seems to have turned into a quite monstrous post.

Just one last thing. The night coincided with Frieda’s birthday so we were all back to ours for a bit of a dance around the kitchen after. The wife proper stacked it on the way home. Probably the funniest thing I’ve seen since….well….she last fell over. She’s still complaining about the rather huge grazes on her knees. Frieda stacked it in the kitchen but still managed to carry on and complete her now obligatory table top dancing.

All in all a good night/morning. A few sorry looking people wandering the streets of Hackney……or having breakfast and lunch in Mare St Spoons. Dirty bastards.

I’ve got a couple of spare copies of the 2nd issue at home. If anyone wants one then send me a message. I’ll even pick up the postage. I’m a fucking great guy like that.

Over and out for now.

I was going to write about our trip to Egypt but I’m so bloody bored talking about it I just can’t face it. It’s nice that people are pretend to be interested in whether you had a good time or not, but it does get on your tits a bit going over the same stuff again and again. The next holiday I have I’m going to invite everyone round my house for an hour-long presentation. Let’s see how fucking interested they are after that. You’re about as interested in my holiday as I am in yours. Just leave it.

In fairness there’s not really much to say about Sharm El Sheikh to be honest. I’ve been getting a bit of stick as it’s sounded like I’ve done nothing but moan. 29 degrees everyday. We had a laugh. We chilled out, the girlfriend didn’t get poked by the horny faux masseuse hotel manager, we didn’t get the shits and it was Wesley Snipes weekend on Fox. You can’t grumble too much with stats like that can you….well…actually, I do have one gripe. If you’re going to the effort of doing a Wesley Snipes weekend and you don’t play Demolition Man then you need your fucking head checking. Still, got to see Blade so not an entire waste. They played this film starring Snipes and Tamzin Outhwaite…..yeah you heard right. Tamzin. Fucking. Outhwaite. It was called 7 Seconds. That’s about as long as I could watch it for, and I can watch any old shit. No surprise in learning that it was straight to DVD.

Seeing Snipes always reminds me of a story about this guy who was on my Brother-in-laws stag do. I don’t know the full story but he ended up getting Wesley in a headlock in Prague, I think Bruce Willis was there as well. Imagine that. Having Snipes in a headlock, that’d be ace. He knows a few moves but there’s only one way to get out of a headlock. You have to go for the nuts. Bit degrading a Hollywood star going for an Essex boys nuts though innit. If someone knows the whole story can you fill in the blanks. Tar.

Anyway. Enough informative travel advice. I’m a bit pushed for time this week what with having been away an’ all. I’ve also got to write a piece of fiction to help some guy with his MA. I’ve got a few ideas about what to write. Pretty much all of them involve a Geordie girl getting fingered in Church. It sounds a bit risqué but that’s the equivalent of “you may kiss the bride” up there. Dirty bastards. I reckon matey’s defintely going to pass.

I came back to news that the Arcade and Bingo boys have actually started putting things up on their blog. They’ve only had it about 12 years so I was quite surprised to see content up so quick. I know one half of them…I don’t know if it’s Arcade or Bingo. I imagine it’s probably Arcade. He looks the sort who would pump all of his money into those dance machines. I’ve seen him cut the rug and it’s pretty slick.

You should keep an eye on their page to be honest. Although he looks about 12 his musical knowledge surpasses his boyish looks height and you should never be one to turn down free music. Especially stuff that’s been mixed. That’s what all the cool kids do now days apparetly.

I think that’s it about it for now to be honest. I’m off to the Bare Bones 2nd issue exhibition on Thursday so I’ll report back on that. I had a sneak preview of the content the other day and it was looking pretty fly. It’s a chance to spend some more time with Harry as well, and as you know that is like one of my favourite things in this world.

Sorry for the lack of visual stimulation. I went with the James Pants tune as a header, one of his remixes features on the Arcade and Bingo mix and this is one of my fav remixes of one of his tunes.

That’s it for now. Must crack on with the fingering.

(UK) They say the best way to know a city’s nooks and krannies is through its locals, I couldn’t agree more, Dangerously Naive’s favorite Londoner graced us with his favorite visionaries last week (http://naiveboy.com/2009/11/21/ten-visionaries-of-jaiden-jeremy-james-by-navo/), and today he’s giving us an exclusive personal first class tour of his favorite spots to be seen or be incognito in London Town.

2. SOUTHBANK for my cultural fix it is definitely my favorite location in London with its mix of Bohemians for all kind of places from artists, to designers, to film makers. I love the BFI especially when it’s the London Film Festival and always check films out and the latest exhibitions they have, Tate Modern for my cultural fix of contemporary art. Haywood Gallery also puts on some amazing shows in recent months Warhol, Longo and Ruscha.

3. THE ROYAL COURT THEATRE, an amazing place for theatre the celebrates old talent whilst nurturing and embracing new. Each production is beautifully done and seems to question and challenge modern-day culture.

Manifesto Twin:

TWIN is closer to a book than a magazine

TWIN is strong, sensual and independent—like its readers

TWIN offers considered and uncomplicated art and fashion

TWIN loves creative women but does not worship empty celebrity

TWIN peels back the gloss and gets back to the basics of magazine-making

Substance over surface is our motto

I’m in Nancy, (north of Paris), jetlagged and therefore awake way too early, passing the time goofing off on my mom’s laptop. We are staying at my uncle’s house…he has pet roly-polies in the compost. He claims they don’t like oranges.

Roly-Poly= “a colloquial name for isopod crustaceans of the family Armadillidiidae”.

Similar to armadillos and roly-polies, I have the ability to make myself tiny and invisible, a skill that comes in handy for discrete people-watching.

Sneaky elevator photos in the airport…roly-poly mode.

I also wanted to get Nylon, but there wasn’t a single place that sold them in the SFO international terminal.

inside Nov. 09 British Vogue

The new Kate Moss is Brazilian. The first time I spotted her was in Nylon’s October 2007 issue, featured as a rising star. Alice Dellal’s wild hair cut and foreign features caught my eye. I also noticed Dellal was not as leggy as the average editorial model. Still, the camera captured a strong presence and spirit.

I came across Dellal again in this month’s British Vogue. She has graced the pages of other magazines including Dazed & Confused, French Vogue, and L’Officiel. At only 5′5”, the Brazilian rebel has been deemed the new Kate Moss. This title is fitting as Dellal has been seen out on the town with questionable company partaking in questionable activities not unlike Moss did in her youth. Last year she replaced Moss as the new face of Agent Provocateur. Dellal’s style is also similar to the 90’s grunge of Kate Moss. She champions cut off denim, floral minidresses, and chunky shoes.

Dellal is currently London’s it girl. The boss of Britain’s fashion scene, i-D magazine, has shot 12 different covers, each featuring one of the “Best British Models.” Dellal will make her official British debut with her cover. The 12 models also include legends Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Twiggy as well as newcomers Agyness Deynand Jourdan Dunn.

Dellal was famous before she was famous. Her mother is Brazilian model Andrea Dellal and her father is a millionaire and bodyguard to the stars. Her friends include Pixie Geldof and Daisy Lowe, two of my favorite British models/socialites. The three recently left Select Model Management to sign with Next. It’s rumored Select was not a fan of the girls’ hard partying. But girls will be girls. One of the biggest perks of fashion modeling is the social scene.

What I love most about this girl is her personal style. The way people dress in their down time speaks mountains about a person. Dellal pulls off the fierce haircut, combat boots, and leather details on the daily. “I like my style. If people don’t like my hair, then they don’t have to book me,” Dellal said on Vogue.com. But it looks like that hair cut will be landing her a cover sometime soon.

“When I was seven, I caught my reflection in a spoon and though, ’Wow! I‘m ridiculously good-looking.‘”- Dellal in Nylon, Oct. 07

This was published on the Flux magazine website on 13 November 2009:

Only Disconnect

Andrew Gallix on this year’s new literary model

“All of this intellect stuff is fine as a consolation (which is how it developed in the first place: Socrates not being Alcibiades),” claims the narrator of an early Toby Litt story. He has a point, of course. Jean-Paul Sartre, for instance, famously confided that he had become a philosopher in order to make up for his ugliness and attract women. Conversely, ghostwriters keep churning out books for celebrity airheads in search of intellectual credibility. And then there’s Gavin James Bower. The author of Dazed & Aroused is the stuff publishers’ wet dreams are made of: a model turned writer; Socrates and Alcibiades rolled into one. “I’m too pretty to be a serious novelist but not pretty enough to be a top model,” he aphorises, “I have no consolation.” Call me jealous, but I have no sympathy.

Bower is far more than just another clothes horse who can string a few sentences together. He started putting pen to paper when he was still reading history at university. Among his influences, he cites Fitzgerald, Burroughs, Ellis, Marx, Sartre and Camus, but also Flux magazine editor Lee Taylor, who gave him his first break: “He was one of the first people who got me excited about being a writer myself”. An internship at Dazed & Confused took an unexpected turn when he was encouraged to go into modelling rather than journalism. After a year or so, his career went the way of the “skinny-jeans-and-winklepickers look,” but not before it had provided him with enough material for a stunning debut novel.

Having walked the (cat)walk, Gavin James Bower can talk authentically about inauthenticity. Alex, the narrator and anti-hero of Dazed & Aroused, slides down the surface of things, barely batting an eyelid when he is fellated by his father’s gorgeous girlfriend. In a rare moment of insight, he realises that the “nauseating truth” about a world in which anything is possible is that nothing is also a distinct possibility. The key to the book probably lies in this oscillation between surfeit and emptiness. Instead of leading to objectivity, Alex’s psychopathological detachment conjures up nightmarish dreamscapes — unreal cities — in which glamorous models are for ever tripping over the vagrants who litter the streets. From the ranters whose messages are always incomprehensible to the news bulletins invariably watched on mute, information overload leads to communication breakdown. The protagonist is bombarded by messages — via leaflets, billboards, freesheets, bumper stickers, graffiti or even fridge magnets — but they remain mere juxtapositions. On Oxford Street, for instance, he passes two men holding placards: “One sells Jesus to passers-by while the other advertises a buffet lunch deal”. The only point, if there is one, is that everything has been commodified. Gavin James Bower describes his character as a “personification of the capitalist social relation — an estranged individual who exploits others and refuses to connect to anything”. Yet, in spite of all that, he remains strangely alluring. Even when it comes to coke, the devil has all the best lines.

Dazed & Aroused is published by Quartet Books.

I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite photographers – Seth Smoot. Through his signature lighting and framing, he achieves an element of drama and suspense with interiors. His work reminds me of the cinematography found in David Lynch films and the mystery of Cindy Sherman portraits. You’ve probably seen his work in many magazines including Dazed & Confused, Esquire, and Elle Décor UK. Seth has also worked with several bands on album packaging including Interpol and Mates of State. He is represented by Giant Artists, a really cool and progressive photo agency.

If you don’t know who Harry is then, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?

Where do I start? So much has happened in the past few weeks. So much exciting stuff.

Harry’s moved into our house now. I got to see into his room. I complemented the decoration. He’s really made it feel like home. Which is pretty special because I didn’t think he would be able to, but he has. I think he this is really clever.

We were going to watch Bullitt on Sunday afternoon but I couldn’t find my copy. It wasn’t in its case. I’m really bad at putting things back in their proper place. I thought Harry would be mad, but he wasn’t mad. I should’ve known he wouldn’t be mad because Harry seems much too nice to ever get mad. We watched The Italian Job instead and I told him a story I knew about Michael Caine. Michael Caine is my favourite actor. I think he liked it. Sunday was a good day.

On Monday, a few of the housemates decided to watch the 3-D Channel 4 programmes. Harry only has one eye. He has two eyes but one isn’t a very good eye. Harry can’t watch 3-D things because you need two good eyes. I felt bad for Harry and tried to tell him that he wasn’ t missing anything because the Queen is shit and so was the 3-D. Even though I love the Queen and some of the 3-D was really good especially the bit when the ball nearly hit me in my face! I laughed when he said the Queen was a “German Ponce“. I love the Queen.

Last night was the best night. I got a text from Harry asking if I would like to go to the pictures to see the new Michael Caine film Harry Brown. I was happy because this was the first invite I had had from Harry and because it has Michael Caine in it, as you know, Michael Caine is my favourite actor. I couldn’t go because I was out with my girlfriend. Fucking stupid girlfriend!! He said he would give me a review. I am still waiting for the review. This is ok because it is only the day after the night of the pictures.

I also stumbled across this video. Which is very good. I didn’t know that Harry was such a big David Bowie fan. I shall add this to the list of things I know about Harry. I won’t mention it though. I think it would make him sad. It makes me angry that Mr Bowie could just be friends with Harry without having to make a list of things that Harry likes. David Bowie is a dickhead.

Bye bye.

P.S. Harry let me borrow his drill.

RnR

* This may or may not be true.
