The start of something big, or another fad?

This blog is aimed to track the progress of an idea! That of finding a larger purpose. I have after some ‘x’teen years in the study of management come across what I can only describe as a Tipping Point (nod to DB re. MG!) I have come to see a bigger picture, I thought I had come across this before when I passed my MSc in Strategic Management. But I was wrong. The ‘discovery’ of Complexity Theory (or my discovery anyway) and it’s implications for management was a turning point. No longer would I spend my time focusing on the minutia of performance management; what’s the point, a form of management nihilism? Not quite…

Having left the institutionalisation of some 20 years of public sector employment, I have seen the promised land!! I have been working with a partner in the development of a new product. Management in the new Information Age? Well not quite the silver bullet, but getting there…

But this was only part of the new idea… I am working on what I consider to me the death of conventional management; the demise of MBAs, which I am beginning to describe as the poor meat in an expensive panini…

Consider conventional performance management, that which has existed since WW2 and all that this brings, that’s the poor meat. Now consider the expensive panini enclosing, squeezing the meat. One side is human history – philosophy and anthropology, our rich history. The other side is the future; the information age and all that it brings. With it’s pervasive all embracing and [real not consultant's] culture changing implications and possibilities.

Consider the possibilities of technologies of Google Wave… Real time collaboration; what does this mean? Consider the demands on the public sector? Analysis has no role, the specialist no longer needed, study will be undertaken by a collective of interested people. It will accelerate development to such a speed that traditional models will be made irrelevant.

Anyway it’s going to be an interesting journey…

Avoid Regional Domestic Banks

Commercial real estate is in big trouble, with rising vacancy rates leading to lower effective rents. On top of that, the Cap rate, which is sort of like the P/E ratio for stocks (or to be more precise, like the E/P or earnings yield for stocks), has been rising, meaning that investors are willing to pay less for each dollar of operating earnings.

Moody’s recently estimated that commercial real estate values are now 43% below peak levels. This has weighed heavily on the real estate-related industries, and the Zacks Industry Ranks reflect those troubles.

Out of 206 industries that we follow, Real Estate Operations now rank 180, with an average Zacks Rank of its constituents of 3.31. The ranks range from 1-5; Zacks #1 Rank stocks indicate a strong buy, which is assigned to the 5% of stocks which are most timely. Stocks which are in the 6th through 20th percentile earn a 2, with similar rules for the 5’s and 4’s.

Almost as badly viewed by the industry rank are the mortgage REITs, which are in 178th place with an average rank of 3.30. Equity REITs fare better, but not by much, sitting in 165th place with an average rank of 3.27. Individual stocks with the dreaded #5 scores in those three related industries include: Capital Trust (CT), Investco Mortgage (IVR), Ramco-Gershensn Properties (RPT) and Glincher Realty (GRT).

Generally, commercial mortgages are for much shorter terms than the 30 years associated with most residential mortgages. Five years is the standard. That means that the owners of the properties are going to have to go to the banks and try to roll over the mortgage. For the banks, this presents a problem, since they do not want to lend out more than the collateral is worth.

Owners of commercial properties are far more likely to ruthlessly default than are homeowners — after all, it’s not like their kids are going to hate them for forcing them to move away from all their friends if they just let the banks take over the property. Most banks, particularly small to mid-sized banks are far more exposed to commercial real estate than they are to residential real estate and mortgages. Even if they make a residential mortgage, they are likely to package it up and sell it off to Fannie (FNM) or Freddie (FRE ) rather than hold it in their portfolio.

As a result, the Zacks Ranks for the regional banks look even worse than the ranks for the real estate companies themselves. The 206 total industries have seven related to the regional banks, with five regional industries plus one for the major regional banks that cover several different regions. With the exception of the major regionals and the banks in the Northeast — both of which are neutral and tied for 104th place with average scores of 3.00 — the banks all look downright ugly.

The worst of the bunch, by a hair, are the Western Regional banks in 198th place with an average score of 3.64, followed by the Midwest in 197th place and a score of 3.51, the Southeast (180th place, 3.31) and the Southwest (177th, 3.29). I don’t think the differences between them are all that significant — just stay away from them all. Some of the larger names among the banks with Zacks Rank #5 scores include: Private Bancorp (PVTB), Sterling Bancshares TX (SBIB) and Peoples Bancorp of Ohio (PEBO). None of them will be mistaken for J.P Morgan (JPM) or Bank of America (BAC).

If you need to have a bank in your portfolio, it would be a good idea to look overseas. In very distinct contrast to their domestic cousins, the Foreign Bank industry is in 15th place, with an average score of 2.27. Some of the banks showing up with coveted 1 scores include major institutions like Credit Suisse (CS) and Deutsche Bank (DB). If you want a more Latin, emerging market flavor for your bank investments, consider Banco Santander (SAN) of Chile or Banco Bradesco (BBD) of Brazil.

Μια μικρή ανάπαυλα για να σας πώ οτι γενικώς αυτό το καιρό είμαι στο στρατό. Όπερ σημαίνει οτι προσπαθώ να γράψω πράγματα με κάποιο τρόπο ώστε να μην προσβάλλουν τα στρατά (και το NDA που έχω υπογράψει) αλλά ταυτόχρονα να μεταφέρω λίγο απο το παραλογισμό της α-λογικής.

Ημέρα 143 λοιπόν (μετράω και αυτές που είχα κάνει πρόπερσι στο 401)

Τόπος: Μαγειρία (κάπου στο Σουφλί)
Ώρα: Κατα τις 8 το βράδυ (δείπνο)

Το μενού έγραφε ζαμπόν τηγανητό με πατάτες. Όμως το έμπειρο μάτι του φαντάρου της σειράς (που δεν ήμουν εγώ) ανέφερε τις 3 μαγικές λέξεις: “ΠΑΛΙ ΓΚΟΤΖΙΛΑ ΕΧΟΥΜΕ?” και ώς δια μαγείας ένα φανταστικό, λαμπρό υπέρλαμπρο αστέρι έλαμψε πάνω απο το πιάτο.

Διότι, απο το πιάτο προέβαλλε το καμάρι της πυρηνικής έκρηξης του Ναγκασάκι και της Χιροσίμα. Με την δύναμη του φουτζιγιάμα, με το τσερβέλο του σκοπέτο και με το χρώμα μαύρο της σαπίλας, Ο ΓΚΟΤΖΙΛΑ ΖΕΙ!!!!

Είπα για εμπειρία να δοκιμάσω. Ετσι και αλλιώς ήμουν θαλαμοφύλακας οπότε θα είχα άμεση πρόσβαση στην τουαλέτα για ότι και να συμβεί. Με την πρώτη μπουκιά γνώρισα την γεύση του zwan. Με την δεύτερη η γλώσσα μου είχε μεταλλαχθεί σε απίθανο χάλκ, χωρίς το τάλκ και με μια τραχειά αίσθηση σαν να θέλει να αποχωριστεί απο το υπόλοιπο σώμα σου και να μην ξαναγυρίσει (σαν το τοίχος του βερολίνου ένα πράγμα).

Περιττό να σας πώ οτι αυτή ήταν η πρώτη και η τελευταία φορά που το άγγιξα αυτό. Τέρμα πιά. Ενα ακόμα βρωμοφάγο φαγητό που δεν θα αγγίξω κάν στην ζωή μου. Τουλάχιστον οι πατάτες ήταν ντόπιο πράγμα γιατι προερχόντουσαν απο το όρος πατάτα.

Freeza, junto com seu império, conquistava diversos planetas. Os que não geravam muito lucro, ele os destruia. Os que geravam, ele colocava o nome de Planeta Freeza e depois o número do planeta.

Um dos únicos planetas de Freeza que conhecemos é o Planeta Freeza N° 79, usado como um dos quartéis generais do exército e como base operacional.

Nos planetas, Freeza estabelecia um governo manárquico(em que ele era o rei) e todos os habitantes do planeta deviam obedecer, ou seriam mortos pelo exército.

Não se sabe quantos Planetas Freeza existem, mas devem ser centenas.

Bahn.de snabbare är SJ:s site på SJ:s tåg

De som försökt boka resor på www.sj.se när man är uppkopplad via SJ:s Internet Ombord har säkert noterat att det tar väldigt lång tid att genomföra bokningen.

Och inte så sällan avbryts bokningen och man får börja om från början.

Att det går långsamt beror inte på SJ:S internet vilket är rimligt snabbt utan att SJ:s hemsida och tillhörande bokning är väldigt långsam och att det tar lång tid att ladda sidorna.

Av ren tillfällighet provade jag tyska järnvägens motsvarande site www.bahn.de och den gick blixtrande snabbt och minst fem gånger snabbare än www.sj.se på SJ:s tåg.

Klart märkligt att största konkurrentens hemsida är så mycket snabbare än SJ:s – på SJ:s tåg!

O burning attack é usado somente por Trunks. É uma tecnica difícil, pois utiliza diversos movimentos rápidos e confusos.

Para utilizá-la, deve-se esticar os braços para frente, fazer diversos movimentos rápidos e abrir os dedos, juntando somente o dedo indicador e o polegar com estes dedos da outra mão.(é difícil de explicar).

A técnica é utilizada pela primeira vez quando Trunks chega do futuro e acaba com Mecha Freeza ou Cyborg Freeza.

With this script you are going to monitor your own instances of Oracle Databases, in dataguard.
This is more than a simple script it’s a structure ready to host plugin and other monitoring script.
The good way is that is wrote to monitor two Instance of databases configured ad dataguard.
The first plug-in/external command created is made to monitor archive log gap between two instances.
Oracle Grid Control don’t have a similar warning, for this reason i’ve wrote this one
obviously in GPL

Você precisa apagar rapidamente todos as linhas da tua tabela? Utilize o TRUNCATE!
Legal! Esse comando é estremamente útil, fácil e mágico! Simplesmente limpa tudo. Tabela zeradinha.

Você pode perguntar: “Qual a vantagem se existe o delete que apaga todas as linhas?“

Bom, vamos lá! O comando TRUNCATE é equivalente ao DELETE que deleta todas as linhas, mas existem algumas diferenças práticas em algumas circunstâncias.
Para uma tabela InnoDB antes da versão 5.0.3 do MySql, InnoDB processa TRUCATE TABLE deletando as linhas uma a uma. A partir do MySQL 5.0.3, a deleção linha por linha é usada somente se existe alguma FOREIGN KEY constraints que referencie a tabela. Se não
existir FOREIGN KEY constraints, InnoDB executa rápido o truncate porque realiza um drop na tabela original e cria uma tabela vazia com as mesmas definições. Isto é extremamente mais rápido do que deletar linha por linha. Show!

Mas vc pode realizar uma segunda pergunta. “E o contador AUTO_INCREMENT?“

É resetado! Exatamente! Começa do zero! Claro, também a partir do MySql 5.0.3. Desta forma, sempre que você usar o TRUNCATE, independentemente se há restrição de chave estrangeira, o contador é resetado!

Vamos à um exemplo?

TRUNCATE nome_da_tabela

Fácil?

Recreating the popular Dragon Ball Z series’ epic combat in all its glory, Dragon Ball: Raging Blast includes a host of exciting gameplay options including powerful and customizable attacks, stunning HD graphics, and a variety of gameplay modes including online or offline versus and tournament matches. The Shackleton Expedition: BM DB Kittycore, turns 560-699

After consulting with Shackleton, we decided to kill the Boss Bat quickly, rather than belling his bodyguards. We figured that we might need the bell later on, while searching for something random needed in the tower. Meat hasn’t really been an issue yet, anyway. Afterwards, we did a quick bounty in the Haunted Pantry.

On a whim, we visited the Limerick Dungeon, looking for Dungeoneer’s Dungarees, and came out just two turns later with what we were looking for. This was very good luck. We then dove into the Daily Dungeon and came out with Boris’s key.

Shackleton and I started looking for the way to White Citadel, which we found in about 27 turns. Once again, I failed to find a
complete hippy disguise in this area. I have to say that Shackleton was not helpful to my efforts. Our run of incredible luck continued when we visited the Hippy Camp and came away with a pair of filthy corduroys in just one trip.

For the rest of the day, Shackleton and I assisted the Deep Fat Friars, and on breaks, played some pool and checked out the library in Spookyraven’s Manor.

Tomorrow, we hope to finish with the Friars and visit Azazel. A bounty should bring me to level 8. Knocking off the Goblin King ought to be feasible, as well as starting work on the Cyrpt.

Relazione sul DBMS Mysql

Come compito per la scuola ci hanno incaricati di fare una ricerca sui vari sistemi di database relazionali. Io ho deciso di farla su Mysql. Tra le altre cose, per lavorare ho fatto un intenso uso di Delicious e delle etichette multiple per dividermi i link interessanti a seconda del paragrafo in cui dovevo metterli. Vedete questa pagina per credere. Questa cosa mi ha divertito perché ho potuto vedere un nuovo modo di adoperare uno strumento web 2.0 che prima non avevo pensato.

Per realizzare la relazione invece ho adoperato Openoffice.org che ormai tutti adorano e qualche font carino. Uno di questi è Sawasdee, di default in Ubuntu, l’altro è Playtime With Hot Toddies, giusto per rendere i titoli un po’ meno seriosi. Visto che alla fine il lavoretto è venuto molto bene e sono alquanto soddisfatto del risultato, ho pensato che potesse essere carino pubblicare la ricerca. Così chi vuole saperne un po’ di più su questo sistema di database magari scoprirà qualcosa di nuovo, e chi vuole usarla come spunto per fare una sua relazione (ho detto spunto, non copia-incolla! ) magari trova un po’ di ispirazione.

Gerade gesehen, dass es in Derby 10.5 auch ein Limit-Äquivalent geben soll (mehr dazu hier).

Im Beispiel:

(days 4-5)

On the Feast of St. Boris, Shackleton and I did a bunch of stuff. We did a bounty in the pantry, then visited a historical battlefield,
where we picked up a uniform. Putting it on, we visted the styx pixie for some help then went hunting for grenades. We bought Envy, then visited the Harem for pants and a veil. Then we took one of the grenades and blew Baron von Ratsworth into tiny pieces. We went into the “Fun” house and I began to think that Shackleton wasn’t going to be entirely helpful on this journey. However, we did construct a very excellent banjo.

The rest of the day, we knocked around various areas, looking for parts for a meat maid, a chef- and a bartender-in-the-box. Shackleton seemed to be against the plan, because she kept knocking the various pieces into the sewer. St. Boris was helpful — I ate a lot of delicious foods.

The day after Boris’ Feast, Shackleton and I finally built a bartender-in-a-box, and we took a bunch of vacations. This allowed us
to build a dingy, which we took to the island and did a bounty on frat boys. Surprisingly, we didn’t complete the frat outfit during these 35 turns. Adventuring in the Haiku Dungeon for 7 turns netted us a bugbear costume, which we really needed to make decent food. We poked around in the Billiards Room, hoping to unlock the library, but no dice. Well, no billiards. And, at the end of the day, Shackleton relented and allowed me to pick up a smart skull and a disembodied brain, which became components of my chef-in-the-box.

Tomorrow, we’re going to try to pick up the hippy outfit on the way to White Citadel, though I don’t know if Shackleton is going to
cooperate. It’ll probably also be time to bell the bodyguards and beat the Boss Bat. It’s also time to do the daily dungeon, so I might need to find some elemental resistance somewhere: the Limerick Dungeon, perhaps? Depending on how wealthy I am, it could also be time to start the Dungeons of Doom.
