Get establish as a Leader in the business community. (This is real easy. Historically marginalized businesses have poor turnouts in places where it counts such as City Hall and Public Hearings and political forums.)

Simply show up and speak up! Get organized. Team up with two other companies in your community.    $$$    Trust me on this one.

Join your community board. If you live in New York City or do business in the city you can join your community board

You get to meet executive directors of various agencies on your turf.

Get your community board behind your business.

If you want to be successful in the government marketplace you must be informed and connected.

Build your network by assuming leadership in your industry and community. he marketplace is enormous.

Approach it smartly by narrowing your marketing campaign to only include agencies with the most opportunities for your products and services.

The Dow Jones industrial average stormed to its highest level in more than a year Monday as a falling dollar boosted prices for gold, oil and other commodities. Stocks also jumped as investors grew more confident that governments around the world will keep interest rates low to help the global economy. Energy and materials stocks led the market. The major indexes rose 2 percent and the Dow jumped 200 points for the second time in three days, reaching its highest level in 13 months.

The stock market sure acts like it is on fire. RSI has been on the right side of this rally by picking commodity funds and recently a small cap value fund. Let’s  review of RSI’s recommendations since its reemergence in its new incarnation. Note I deleted the leveraged picks since they have been purged from the database, for reasons previously noted. So here they are in the order they were recommended.

• Buy 300 shares Rydex S&P SmallCap 600 Pure Value (RZV) tomorrow on the open. Enter a stop loss $3.33 below your entry price and a profit target $5.00 above entry price.

All these positions had a good gain today, ranging from 1.51% to 6.07%. It is way too soon to crow about these results. Give it a bit more time.

And, before I forget, RSI had no picks today. I’ll catch you tomorrow.

Yes, the market had the blahs today however RSI made one pick today (see below). However I find it instructive that RSI’s recent picks tilt in the energy/commodities direction. These two sectors are influenced by a multitude of factors, but in general, a recovering economy sustains higher energy/commodity prices. So indirectly RSI is predicting a continuation of the economic upturn.

I have to do some explaining. In yesterday’s blog I mentioned I would pass on Ultra Oil & Gas ProShares (DIG), due to my current commodity exposure plus the fact that DIG is leveraged at 2X and hence has a high volatility. This morning I reviewed my analysis and thought otherwise. My decision was influenced by my investigation of previous back-testing history. RSI has a tendency of picking a bunch of funds, especially at important market junctures. But by the time I placed my order DIG had made a nice gain of about $1.00 off the opening price. So I ended up getting in a bit late and missed a bit of the move. Lesson learned?  I hope. So there is a lot more to this game than having a mechanical trading system. One must be disciplined.

One of the problems bothering me is my attempt to diversify exposure. This was emphasized in the Turtle Trading Experiment as a risk mitigation technique. However if RSI wants to pile onto energy/commodity funds, should I stand in the way? My present stance is to accommodate, but only to a reasonable degree.

In what has to be one of the most bizarre stories of the year in the UK music scene, there is a chance that 92-year-old Dame Vera Lynn’s album, We’ll Meet Again — The Very Best of Vera Lynn, could knock Arctic Monkeys’ Humbug off the top of the UK album charts. Dame Vera (pictured above in the 1940s) is already the oldest living artist to have a Top 20 album in the UK. The recent 70th anniversary of the start of the Second World War in Europe gave Dame Vera’s album a big boost in the charts. Dame Vera was the best-known British female vocalist of the World War II era and was held in very high esteem by the British troops that were fighting abroad. Dame Vera’s hits during the war included “We’ll Meet Again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover.”

On her battle for the top spot on the UK album charts with Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys, who are almost seven decades her junior, Dame Vera told The Times of London:

“It’s rather exciting, isn’t it? All I can say is that there are customers out there who like that kind of song and maybe there’s not enough of that caliber on the market these days. I can’t think of anyone in modern music I listen to … Singers seem to have faded away.”

Dame Vera admitted to The Times that she had never heard of Arctic Monkeys before, saying:

“I’ve never listened to them. They’re not actually monkeys? I didn’t think they were. I’m afraid I don’t listen to music very much. When I’m at home I watch television. I like archaeological programs, like Time Team.”

I love the fact that Dame Vera asked, “They’re not actually monkeys?” That is really funny.

Having lived through the horrors of the Second World War, Dame Vera has very strong views on Britain’s current military involvement in Afghanistan. She told The Times:

 “I’m very sorry that it’s still going on. I don’t think the soldiers get enough support. You hear about the terrible condition they are fighting in — somebody should do something about it and give them what they need. It’s not like we don’t have the money.”

Blunt, but true.

Dame Vera Lynn received her DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1975. The award is, basically, the female version of knighthood.

Elizabeth Taylor is the latest celebrity to speak out about the tragic and sudden death of pop legend Michael Jackson. Taylor, who was a longtime friend of the King of Pop, released a statement Friday saying she is heartbroken over Jackson’s death.

“My heart … my mind are broken. I loved Michael with all my soul and I can’t imagine life without him. We had so much in common and we had such loving fun together,” Taylor, 77, said.

The actress said she was looking forward to seeing Jackson in his comeback concerts set to begin in London next month. “I was packing up my clothes to go to London for his opening when I heard the news. I still can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it. It can’t be so,” she says.

“I don’t think anyone knew how much we loved each other. The purest, most giving love I’ve ever known. Oh God! I’m going to miss him. I can’t yet imagine life without him,” Taylor adds. “I guess with God’s help … I’ll learn. I keep looking at the photo he gave me of himself, which says, ‘To my true love Elizabeth, I love you forever.’ And, I will love HIM forever.”

Elizabeth Taylor is #7 on the American Film Institute’s list of  Greatest Female Stars of All Time.  She is also Dame Commander (DBE) of the Most Excellent Order of the Brittish Empire. 

Whats most impressive though is that people impersonate her for a living. Earlier today I attended a Senior Exposition in Bryan, TX to recruit research participants. I couldn’t tell that the woman on stage retelling the biography of Elizabeth Taylor wasn’t actually Elizabeth Taylor until someone whispered she wasn’t.

Oh well, there is nothing much to say about this film. It ruined my childhood memories. There. Okay, that’s all. Please comment if you think otherwise. ^_^

Olá a todos! Comeram muitos chocolates nessa Páscoa? Como passei o dia ocupado, seja almoçando com a família, vendo meu Flamengo ir pra final do Campeonato Carioca ou trabalhando em uma Jornada de Psicologia do trabalho, não tive tempo colocar o post mais cedo. 

Hoje, apesar de todo mundo já ter comentado algo, por ser um grande fã de Dragon Ball, sendo meu anime/manga favorito, quero falar do filme Dragon Ball Evolution que estreiou esta quinta no Brasil. 

Mas antes de tudo…

E finalmente Dragon Ball Evolution estreiou. Não que eu estivesse em uma expectativa gigante por esse filme, afinal, pelas imagens, informações e traillers que já havia visto, era de se esperar uma grande bomba. Mas a curiosidade era grande, não é todo dia que adaptam seu anime favorito (que o diga o pobre Leo do blog Mithril, já que anunciaram uma possível adaptação da franquia Full Metal Panic! com o ator Zac Efron). Fui ao cinema com uma idéia fixa: “Tente esquecer Dragon Ball, pense apensas em um filme de luta, aventura e efeitos especiais.”, mas nem isso deu certo.

DBE consegue decepcionar qualquer fã com menos de dois minutos em tela, por mais que alguém vá com a boa vontade de não queimar o filme antes de vê-lo, quando a primeira frase do filme é (mais ou menos) “Piccolo e seu braço direito… Ozharu”. Depois disso você perde qualquer esperança de alguma adaptação minimamente decente.

Mas esquecendo Dragon Ball, DBE tem alguma salvação? A verdade é que a primeira metade do filme não é tão ruim, segue um filme tipicamente americano, um Goku looser, Chichi popular, um piada aqui outra ali e só. Você até chega a pensar que valeria alugar o dvd, mas o problema ainda estar por vir.

A franquia Dragon Ball é conhecida por basicamente duas coisas; o humor simples de Dragon Ball e as lutas típicas de shounens da fase Z. De piadas o filme até vai, mas nada no estilo do mestre Toriyama, porém o problema mesmo está nas lutas. Afinal, por mais que a adaptação fosse ridícula, ver um filme live-action com boas cenas de ação e efeitos especiais exagerados é sempre bem-vindo para relaxar. Infelizmente as (poucas) lutas presentes são péssimas. O que deveria ser o clímax do filme, Piccolo X Goku, passa de forma tão rápida e tosca que você fica pensando no que aconteceu. 

Concluindo, o filme é ruim. Só três coisas me fariam recomendar o filme para alguém:

1 – A curiosidade.

2 – As esferas do dragão que ficaram realmente bonitas.

3 - Jamie Chung, a atriz que faz Chichi

Sim, a personagem não tem muito a ver com a verdadeira Chichi, mas eu me apaixonei!

Felizmente, com a arredação MUITO fraca na América do Norte, acho difícil ter mais um filme.

A maioria dos fãs não está nem um pouco contente com a adaptação de Dragon Ball para as telonas, e o que você acha que Akira Toriyama, o criador da série, achou?

“Como o criador, eu fiquei meio “Heim?” depois de ver cenas e os character designs. Mas o diretor, os atores, todo mundo que trabalhou nesse filme são pessoas de ultra alto-calibre. A melhor maneira para eu e os fãs apreciarem o filme seja considerando-o como um NOVO DRAGONBALL que acontece numa dimensão paralela. Talvez, isso se torne um grande filme! Vamos dar uma olhada quando sair!”

Resumindo, até ele achou estranho! Não é à toa, olhem na imagem o que fizeram com o Oozaru! Até que a idéia da dimensão paralela é uma boa, mas acho que ele está lendo quadrinhos americanos demais, além de que parece uma desculpa para mesmo assim as pessoas irem assistir o filme e fazer o senhor Toriyama lucrar mais um dinheirinho em cima da série.

Tengo rato con ganas de abrir esta sección, en especial porque hay cosillas que me gustaría no olvidar y porque hay una pagina que frecuento (TODOSERIES) donde acostumbran a realizar citas de las diferentes series que siguen… aquí yo citaré de todo un poco y comenzaré con una que muchos otakus recordaremos por mucho tiempo:

Como creador original, tenía una sensación de “¿huh?” al ver el guión y el diseño de personajes, pero el director, todos los actores, el staff y el resto, son gente de “ultra” alto calibre. Quizás la manera correcta de apreciarla, para mi y los fans, es como un nuevo Dragonball de una dimensión diferente. Tal vez esto podrá convertirse en una obra maestra de poder! Hey, la miraré!
