Myślę że pograłem już dostatecznie długo i mogę opisać swoje wrażenia z tego topornego, lecz świetnego symulatora śmigłowca KA-50 Kamov.

Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark (bo tak brzmi jego pełna nazwa) to symulator ze stajni  Eagle Dynamics, których pamiętamy za takie gry jak Lock-on: Modern Air Combat i jego dodatek Flaming Cliffs gdy jeszcze znajdowali się pod opieką Ubisoftu.

Sama gra w Polsce nie jest oficjalnie dostępna (nie podjął się tego żaden dystrybutor), ale można ją dostać w sklepie pilots.pl za około 140zł w Angielskiej wersji językowej.

Zacznijmy jednak od samego początku czyli od tego jak prezentuje się na… półce . Pudełko to standardowe opakowanie DVD z okładką, która informuje nas z czym mamy do czynienia. No nie z byle czym, KA-50 jest przedstawiony na niebiesko (można powiedzieć) żółtym tle, które swoją drogą ma przypominać płomienie a raczej niedawną ofiarę naszego dzielnego Kamova. Sam śmigłowiec jest pomalowany na czarno z charakterystycznymi zębami rekina namalowanymi na kadłubie, mówi to samo przez się… To bestia której poskromienie trochę nam zajmie .

Po włożeniu płytki do napędu DVD i zakończeniu całego procesu instalacyjnego na naszym pulpicie pojawią się dwie ikonki jedna odpowiedzialna za tryb Single Player druga natomiast za Multiplayer. I teraz robi się ciekawie, ponieważ jeśli zechcemy zagrać w tryb Multiplayer to czeka nas niespodzianka, musimy aktywować… licencję. Tak i to nie byle jaka aktywacja bo to Starforce dba o to żeby nikomu nie strzeliło do głowy by taką grę zpiracić. Tak więc jeśli już aktywujemy nasz klucz, ukaże nam się informacja iż mamy ich tylko 10 na jeden klucz/licencje. Nie tracimy ich jednak przy każdej reinstalacji gry a tylko w tedy gdy zmienimy płytę główną w naszym komputerze lub gdy zapomnimy dezaktywować grę przed jej odinstalowaniem, więc zanim zechcemy w ogóle zagrać w DCS: Black Shark sugeruje się głęboko zastanowić czy nie planujemy robić czegoś poważnego z naszym komputerem. Developer zarzeka się iż w przypadku utracenia wszystkich aktywacji nie wyśle nam drugiego klucza, ponieważ wierzy iż 10 aktywacji to wystarczająco a ludzie powinni być odpowiedzialni (Lekcja odpowiedzialności sponsored by Eagle Dynamics ). Oczywiście w przypadku utracenia aktywacji nie z naszej winy (jakiś bliżej nie określony sabotaż?) Eagle Dynamics jest w stanie się zlitować i wysłać nam drugi kluczyk .

W DCS: Black Shark mamy w sumie cztery kampanie w których siadamy za sterami KA-50 Kamov po stronie Rosyjskiej. Jedna z kampanii nazywa się Deployment jest to swoiste wprowadzenie, można powiedzieć taki “tuturial” do pozostałych kampanii w Black Shark. Linia fabularna (jeśli naprawdę nam na niej zależy w takiej grze) jest dość prosta ot wszystko idzie o parę kropel oleju kujawskiego który jakimś cudem wystrzeliwuje spod ziemi, a że każdy ma dziś chrapkę na trochę olejku to wywiązuje się mały konflikt.

DCS: Black Shark to naprawdę bardzo dobry, bardzo solidny i cholernie trudny symulator. Jak dla mnie wart każdej złotówki/funta/euro/dolara. Z technicznego punktu nie mam się do czego przyczepić, modele są szczegółowe aż do bólu i nie jedna gra wysoko budżetowa mogła by pozazdrościć takiej dbałości o detale. A satysfakcja z odpalonego Vihra i zniszczenia czołgu jest nagrodą samą w sobie! Szczerze polecam!

My first day with the TWC folks was nice.  Everyone was very kind and helpful: Just like the people I met when I joined DCS with the State of Indiana.

I received an overview of the TWIST system; the architecture of the system, and the various technologies utilized for the system.  My work with DCS was very discipline specific (e.g. PowerBuilder, PL/SQL, etc.); with TWC my duties will be more cross-cutting from architecture to database programming to front-end development.

The soup-to-nuts work should keep things very interesting and fun!

Thưa Bác Phùng Liên Đoàn, đọc bài viết ĐỪNG SỢ NHÀ MÁY ĐIỆN HẠT NHÂN NGUY HIỂM, HÃY LO CON CHÁU TA MẮC NỢ DÀI DÀI của bác, cháu đồng ý với bác hoàn toàn. Chỉ nhưng, chỉ nhưng Ta không như Tây bác ạ. Do đó, cháu lại càng lo hơn nếu Quốc hội phê chuẩn dự án ĐHN.

Thứ nhất. Tây có các ý kiến trái chiều. Do đó, sẽ dễ dàng đúc kết các ưu khuyết từ mọi phía để rồi rút ra nhiều điều bổ ích. Còn ta thì sao? Ta có “các ý kiến đều đồng thuận”! Lại thêm, phản biện khoa học chỉ được mang danh nghĩa cá nhân và phải gởi cho các cơ quan có thẩm quyền để cất vào hộc tủ. Do đó, sẽ không biết đâu mà mò!

Thứ hai. Tây chỉ có Tiến sĩ. Còn chúng ta có “Tiến sĩ đột phá”! Bằng Tiến sĩ đương nhiên là một minh chứng cho sự thành công trên đường học vấn của một cá nhân. Tuy nhiên, không có nghĩa có bằng Tiến sĩ là sẽ bảo đảm thành công trong công việc. Ở Mỹ, dù có bằng Tiến sĩ mà làm không xong việc thì vẫn bị đuổi việc như thường. Không phải như ta, miễn có bằng Tiến sĩ xong rồi thì cứ điềm nhiên tọa thị và đột phá.

Thứ ba. Trách nhiệm. Tây nó ràng buộc trách nhiệm rõ ràng. Còn ta thì lỗi là do “cậu đánh máy, cô thư ký”! Do đó, khi nhà máy ĐHN có bề gì thì chúng ta sẽ nghe “anh công nhân”!

Thứ tư. Các công ty đầu tư nhà máy ĐHN ở Mỹ là công ty tư nhân. Do đó, họ phải cân nhắc chuyện lời lãi kỹ lưỡng. Ngoài ra, các hiệp hội môi trường, cư dân có thể kiện đòi bồi thường nếu các nhà máy gây nguy hiểm đến sức khỏe người dân. Còn chúng ta thì ĐHN là con cưng của ông Quốc doanh. Lời thì mấy ổng biết. Lỗ đã có dân lo trả nợ. Đến như trên 40% công ty quốc doanh lỗ trắng mắt nhưng các ông Bộ trưởng vẫn trả lời tỉnh queo “ Nhiệm vụ chính trị… Tuy lỗ, nhưng nhìn chung là tốt”!

Thứ năm. Người Mỹ ưu tiên người Da đỏ trong thuế má khi làm ăn hay học hành. Nhưng khi nói đến công việc khoa học kỹ thuật cao hay ĐHN thì không có chuyện “Ưu tiên con em địa phương”! Còn ta thì khác. Ưu tiên con em… là chính sách nhân đạo của Đảng và Nhà nước. Đến khi vỡ chuyện thì “Do năng lực trình độ có hạn…”. ĐHN mà giao cho người kém trí thì khác nào tự sát! Đó là chưa kể đến những chỗ nào thơm ngon thì đã dành cho các cô chiêu cậu ấm. Dù năng lực của các “cô chiêu, cậu ấm” chỉ thường thường bậc trung hoặc còn dưới thường thường bậc trung rất xa!

Thứ sáu. Chúng ta có truyền thống “mang dép lốp vào vũ trụ” nên thay vì mời các nhà khoa học, chuyên gia đi tham quan nghiên cứu, thì chúng ta mời “NÔNG DÂN” đi tham quan cho sáng mắt! Vâng, trả nợ nhiều quá nên mắt sáng tưng bừng… vì nhắm lại cũng còn thấy nợ!

Thứ bảy. Khi muốn làm dự án gì, các bộ ngành của ta không ngại “TÔ HỒNG” bản báo cáo để dễ dàng làm hoa mắt hòng lừa các Đại biểu QH! Lại thêm QH của ta là một QH ôm đồm. Theo lời ông Phó Chủ tịch Quốc hội Nguyễn Đức Kiên là “Cõng em phải thôi xay lúa” [A]! Vừa làm Chủ tịch tỉnh vừa làm Ông Nghị. Chỉ làm một việc mà các vị ấy còn làm chưa tốt. Cứ xem lâm tặc, tham nhũng hoành hành khắp nơi thì biết… Vậy thời gian đâu các vị ấy làm việc của ông Nghị? Thôi thì, Nghị gật cho lẹ! Điểm độc đáo là, tuy các vị ấy bận hai ba việc và việc nào chẳng ra việc nào, nhưng khả năng làm “KINH TẾ” riêng tư thì các vị ấy rất giỏi, hoặc nói đúng hơn siêu giỏi! Dù các vị ấy không tốt nghiệp khoa Kinh tế!

Thứ tám. Mỹ chỉ có Ma cà rồng. Ai bị nó hút máu là chết ngay. Còn chúng ta thì có “Ma lai rút ruột”! Người bị nó rút không chết ngay. Nhìn vẫn bình thường nhưng phải sống lây lất! Chắc Bác không lạ với những câu này trên báo chí:

- Rút ruột nhưng không ảnh hưởng đến công trình!

Cháu nghĩ hoài mà không thông được câu này. Nói vậy ai ngon đưa cháu “RÚT RUỘT” một cái thử xem? Có ảnh hưởng đến sức khỏe không thì biết!

Thứ chín. Chúng ta không phải là xứ sở hoa hồng. Nhưng “HOA HỒNG” của ta rất nổi tiếng! Những PCI, tiền Polymer…. Lại thêm những cái “TÀI KHOẢN” nhạy cảm ở các nhà băng nước ngoài… nữa! Lại thêm chúng ta có “NHÂN THÂN TỐT,… ĐỪNG ĐỂ MẤT TẤT” và những điều “BÍ MẬT QUỐC GIA”! Do đó, báo chí không thể viết, người dân không thể biết, hay kiện!

Thứ mười. Tư duy của ta khác người. Khi Liên Xô (cũ) thành công phóng tàu vũ trụ thì người Mỹ cuống cuồng vào cuộc chạy đua. Và chỉ trong 10 năm, người Mỹ đã thành công đưa người của họ lên mặt trăng. Bởi vì người ta biết trọng dụng nhân tài và dùng người đúng nơi đúng chỗ. Còn chúng ta thì sao? Sau bao nhiêu năm “Hiện đại hóa, công nghiệp hóa” để đưa Đất nước lên XHCN. Hôm nay nền công nghiệp, khoa học kỹ thuật cao của chúng ta đang ở đâu?

Gần đây, các dự án khai thác bauxite để đưa ngành công nghiệp khai thác bauxite thành một ngành công nghiệp lớn của đất nước. Vậy xin hỏi ngành này cần bao nhiêu Kỹ sư? Bao nhiêu Thạc sĩ, và bao nhiêu Tiến sĩ? Theo lời tác giả “tỉnh táo” Lã Thanh Tùng thì chỉ cần đào tạo 18 tháng các con em đã có thể làm chủ! Chúng ta có một lượng Tiến sĩ hùng hậu, một lượng Thạc sĩ đông đảo, và một nguồn Kỹ sư đáng nể mà Đất nước không khá. Huống chi chỉ đào tạo 18 tháng?

Thứ mười một. Khi Chính phủ muốn làm gì thì những gì người dân nghe cũng rất tốt. Chỉ kết quả là không tốt. Hầm Kim Liên chưa xài đã ngập. Hầm Thủ Thiêm chưa chịu lực, chưa dìm đã nứt. Công trình vĩ đại Dung Quất chưa chạy 100% mà van đã hỏng! Đến nay đã qua gần hết tháng 11 mà van đã được sửa xong để ông Thủ tướng cắt băng “Khánh thành” lần nữa hay chưa cũng không ai biết!

Đã vậy, tư duy người Việt chúng ta rất độc đáo, khác người! Là Đảng viên nhưng Hoàng Sa, Trường Sa chỉ là “bãi chim ỉa”! Chuyên gia ngành dầu khí thì “chờ 1 cái van nhà máy lọc dầu 60 tháng” là chuyện “bình thường”! Nhà máy lọc dầu thì thấm béo gì với nhà máy ĐHN! Chắc đến cái van nhà máy ĐHN thì phải chờ đến 3 năm! Nếu cháu không nhầm thì khi dừng nhà máy ĐHN 1 ngày để bảo trì, công ty điện lực mất ít nhất 1 triệu đô la!

Thứ mười hai. Trái đất đang nóng lên. Rồi tai họa tsunami không ai có thể lường trước. Xây dựng nhà máy ĐHN gần ven biển có quá nguy hiểm khi 30 năm sau nước biển dâng cao do băng tan. Chỉ sợ, lúc đó, hậu duệ của ông Phó Thủ tướng Hoàng Trung Hải lại nói rằng:

- Sóng thần lịch sử! Đã tính toán cả rồi. Có nhà máy ĐHN nào mà không phê duyệt chứ! Phải xả lò thôi. Chứ không thì bể nguyên lò thì nguy hiểm gấp ngàn lần!

I saw an interesting slide at the UHMS GLC meeting in October. It compared dive profiles that were virtually identical except for a very deep bounce at the beginning of what was otherwise a “square” profile. The presenter stated that there were less observed bubbles after the dive that began with the bounce than the one that didn’t.

That’s quite astounding. One would think that starting a dive with a bounce would increase the number of bubbles, not decrease it. This result seemed to support some of the claims made by bubble model proponents that neo-Haldanean compression models miss opportunities to exit from deep dives earlier. The effect is explained by the theory of micronuclei, which can be made up of very small bubbles that already exist in the bloodstream, which grow larger in the presence of supersaturated inert gas (i.e. Nitrogen or Helium) and cause problems. The deep bounce crushes these micronuclei to a degree where they do not easily accrete dissolved gases and grow to a size that would cause the diver problems.

Sounds intriguing, but I’m still not convinced that this is safe enough for my personal use. I worry that certain environmental conditions or dive profiles would result in a reversal of the effect and the onset of serious DCS. I’m probably full of “it” on this topic but if one model predicts I’m going to be fine and the other predicts I’m going to be writhing in agony, I’m going to err on the side of staying down a little longer.

For the past 5 years, Craig Neuman has nurtured great ideas into great design as Creative Director at Midwestern creative powerhouse, Barkley. The Kansas City-based, full-service advertising agency has built up an impressive client list and some impressive work. They also have a rocket on top of their building and, among other notable quirks, they are 100% employee-owned.

Clearly, Barkley takes their work seriously, but they don’t take themselves too seriously—and neither does Neuman. Just watch his discussion about Americans butchering the Queen’s English and you can see that he delights in observing and critiquing the world around him. Até que ponto a legalzice da realidade aumentada trabalha efetivamente a marca e até que ponto a falta de atributos funcionais dessa tecnologia acaba conferindo uma peça gratuita e sem retorno ao investimento? Há muito tempo atrás, mais ou menos 1 mês, queríamos fazer alguma coisa com RA na agência, sabíamos que era um erro pensar primeiro na tecnologia, mas, querendo ou não, isso ajuda na concepção da ideia e é muito frutífera se depois nos questionamos se não pensamos primeiro na tecnologia(!).

Pois bem, na época, eu defendia que a forma com que se fazia RA já tinha se esgotado, naquele tempo (há um mês atrás), tinha-se que agregar função, interagir com outro meios, desafiar o consumidor, enfim. Acabamos sem nenhuma ideia verdadeiramente consistente e que agradasse à todos, acabamos deixando de lado a ideia de fazer realidade aumentada com a consciência tranquila, pelo menos a minha, de que a tecnologia já não despontava mais.

Então, quarta-feira passada, eu estava tomando meu café da manhã com bolo e geléia (como já postei aqui) e surge um anuncio com realidade aumenta. Era da agência do meu irmão, DCS, com a novíssima Boca. Pegamos o computer para testá-lo. O anuncio era realmente bem bonito, com musica, uma animação bem executada, mas, sinceramente, não existia nenhum dos diferenciais que eu acreditava.

Ok, a foto ficou uma merda!

Corta cena, minha Mãe entra na cozinha (close na reação de espanto dela). Ela simplesmente adorou, achou lindo, e com música ainda, putz! Talvez sensibilizada pelo Natal ou sensibilizada por ser mulher mesmo. O importante é ressaltar que ontem, quinta-feira ela, relembrou o anuncio e pediu que eu o explicasse novamente e provavelmente ela deve ter contar para as amigas de paddle e por aí vai.

Gente, os tempos mudaram!!!

Yesterday (October 24th, 2009) I attended the 30th annual meeting of  the  Great Lakes Chapter of the Undersea and  Hyperbaric Medical Society. For reasons I’ll explain at another time, this is probably the last meeting of the chapter, due to reorganization of the parent society.

There were many interesting talks, but one thing really stuck in my mind about the state of hyperbaric medicine in Canada – and that is that it isn’t taken seriously enough. Hyperbaric medicine is used in the treatment of several ailments, including

1. Air  or gas embolism
2. Carbon monoxide poisoining
3. Clostridial  myositis and myonecrosis (gas gangrene)
4. Crush injury, compartment syndome and other acute ischemia
5. Decompression sickness
6. Enhancement of healing in selected problem wounds
7. Exceptional anemia
8. Intracranial abscess
9. Necrotizing soft tissue infections (like necrotizing fasciitis a.k.a. flesh-eating disease)
10. Ostemyelitis
11. Delayed radiation injury
12. Grafts and skin flaps
13. Thermal burns

One particular aspect of the above was in  the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, which often would otherwise result in amputation. With the population (like me) aging, diabetes is becoming more common and the incidence of this problem will grow proportionately.

However, when we visited the Hyperbaric Facility at Toronto General Hospital and asked why it wasn’t in use at that time, the reply was that there was no funding to pay for technicians. Meanwhile it seems that private hyperbaric facilities are popping up all over the place for treatments that have no proven benefit, putting, as we heard, the situation as on where a clinic “can charge patients for hyperbaric oxygen therapy for conditions that is doesn’t work for, but cannot charge for condition for which it can”.

Per capita Canada has about 10% of the number of chambers as the US available for physician-prescribed HBOT. Part of this I’m sure is the stringent controls on private facilities  that  can avail themselves of  government funding,  and of public facilities  that can access private funds (i.e extra-billing  which was outlawed decades ago  by the government of Pierre Trudeau).  But it also seems there is a general ignorance and/or  scepticism with regard the to usefulness of HBOT, and the leaders of the  chapter are campaigning for greater awareness and education amongst the medical community.

Let’s hope they succeed. Access to recompression chambers for emergency use  is essential to divers, but actually provide greater benefits to the general public. That’s a double win.

I picked up this pointer on the Ontario Diving web site.  It’s  the proceedings of the Baromedical and Environmental Physiology Group of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, 18–19 December 2008, in Trondheim, Norway and looks pretty interesting, although it’s still downloading as I write this. It  has an appendix the entire seminal document on  decompression sickness (“The Prevention of Compressed Air Illness”) by John Scott Haldane, which makes up about a third of its almost 300 pages.

I was pleased to read the  following sentence in one of the papers: “Nevertheless, there is no clear evidence, to date, that diving, in the absence of serious acute damage, leads to long-term neurological dysfunction.”  That’s good news, I think.

Quello che la tecnologia di Second Life offre non è certo una seconda vita ma piuttosto un’estensione, un ampliamento, un arricchimento della vita reale con la possibilità di intervenire con le proprie idee e capacità in un contesto virtuale. Un ambito per esporre sé stessi e comprendere gli altri, con un meccanismo simile a quello che si instaura in un processo di analisi di gruppo.

Iª PARTE

Al momento dell’entrata nel gruppo, verrete informati delle seguenti cose:

1. ISCRIZIONE AL GRUPPO “DESERT SHADOWS” : Attraverso questo canale verranno date tutte le comunicazioni relative a combattimenti , manifestazioni od eventi.
2. BLOG: abbiamo un blog, che viene costantemente aggiornato, e vi consigliamo caldamente di leggere sempre.
3. REGOLAMENTO: da leggere subito per comprendere come siamo organizzati e capire su quali principi si basa il nostro GDR
4. “DIVISA”: ognuno avra’ un suo ruolo all’iinterno del gruppo e dovra essere sempre riconosciuto anche dalla “tip jar” che indossa.
5. DCS : è il sistema di combattimento. A che serve? A segnalare quanta vita vi rimane durante il combattimento e quanti danni avete fatto all’avversario. Noi usiamo il DCS anche se ci sono altri sistemi tipo GCS ( Gorean Combat System) gratuito ma meno avanzato.

PRIMI PASSI
Prima di cominciare è bene che prendiate confidenza con MOUSELOOK, CORSA, USO della SPADA, USO del DCS, REGOLE DI COMBATTIMENTO

IIª PARTE

1. IL MOUSELOOK: Nei combattimenti è consigliato entrare nella modalità mouselook. Per farlo, ruotare in avanti la rotella del mouse finchè il vostro avatar non scompare. Al suo posto avrete un piccolo mirino.Fate un giro dell’arena in questa modalità evitando di urtare ostacoli e/o persone. Esercitatevi finché non avrete preso dimestichezza con l’uso della spada.
2. USO DELLA SPADA:per estrarre la spada scrivete sulla chat: draw sword; per lanciare i primi colpi con la spada:tenere sempre premuto il tasto sinistro del mouse e usare le frecce direzionali,  non appena lo si rilascia il vostro avatar smetterà di fendere colpi. Ricordate che ad ogni freccia corrisponde un tipo di colpo. Il consiglio è quello di uscire dal mouselook e vedere quali sono le differenze se premo freccia avanti, indietro, destra o sinistra.

A DCS acabou de receber um bronze no Jay Chiat Planning Award na categoria Research com o trabalho The Group That Analyzes a Group is a Group². Eu queria escrever alguma coisa sobre o prêmio mas não teria melhor pessoa para fazê-lo do que um dos planejamentos do projeto, então, fiz umas perguntinhas para o Andre Torales:

1.       Do que se trata a pesquisa?
A técnica Group² é basicamente um grupo de discussão (mais informal) analisando, em tempo-real, outro grupo de discussão (convencional).
A ideia era reduzir a diferença entre o discurso e a realidade, principalmente com o público jovem.

2.       Qual foi o resultado efetivo da pesquisa?
O método Grupo² permitiu enxergar melhor essas diferenças entre discurso e realidade e aprofundar o conhecimento de forma mais prática, econômica e efetiva. Ou seja, veio informação mais qualificada do que se fizéssemos apenas um grupo de discussão convencional.

3.       Qual foi o ponto determinantepara que vocês ganhassem a premiação?
Cara, acredito que o ponto determinante foi o ineditismo do método.

Além da DCS, a JWT recebeu uma menção honrosa com “Quem foi Melhor: Biro Biro ou Maradona?” e uma prata com “Band-Aid by Alexandre Herchcovitch”, os únicos sul-americanos do evento. Parabéns!

SIP is a service offered by VoiceIPComms ; SIP is the abbreviation of “Session Initiation Protocol” and is widely applicable in present scenario. It basically works with Internet Protocol. It initiates the session for multimedia communication among various parties. Since co-founding Modern Dog Design Co. in 1987, Robynne Raye and Michael Strassburger have continued to do work for entertainment and retail companies – both local and national – and counts poster, packaging and identity projects as some of their favorite work. Recent clients include the Disney, Seattle Aquarium., Blue Q, Olive Green Dog Products, Shout! Factory and HarperCollins. They have received recognition from every major design organization in the U.S., and their posters are represented in the permanent archives of the Louvre (Rohan Marsan wing), the Library of Congress, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Bibliotheque Nationale de France, Museum Fur Kunst und Gewerbe, the Warsaw National Museum, and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum among others.
