We were fortunate to be invited to a wedding for the owners of a local restaurant that we frequent, Harry’s Cafe. Debbie and Trip have provided us with many an enjoyable meal. The restaurant is located in Mount Holly, close enough to our house to sneak away for a child-less dinner here and there. Trip, Debbie and the entire staff make you feel like family when you are there. It doesn’t take many visits to feel like you’re going to a good friend’s house for dinner. We were honored that they considered us friends and included us in their special day.

The wedding was held at the Weston Playhouse, a beautiful venue for a wedding. The ceremony was simple and elegant. The food, was delicious. I learned from members of their staff, that Debbie, Trip and the staff cooked the food served that evening in the nights preceding the event.

Traveller and Strokin' - the 350 Dually

We knew that Traveller would be in good hands with Debbie, who usually moves horses.

Just recently Debbie, a Thursday night knit workshop knitter and a regular Skein Lane retreater, shared her most recent excitement. She just purchased a home on the coast that she really…really wanted. The first thing to share here is that the clincher that closed the deal. Debbie is the kind of person who is quite financially sound and has chosen not to have credit cards. This  actually created a challenge for her lenders to the close the deal…they were looking for info about her payment patterns. She called me in a panic and requested a letter saying that she had been a customer of Skein Lane for a number of years, paid her bills on time, and had no outstanding balances. (All of which is true!) Can you believe that the letter from her knitting enabler was the decisive factor in granting her the property loan? Go Debbie!

More about Debbie….she is an avid crafter. She knits, beads, spins, dyes…that is just a bit that I know. Her excitement about fiber arts is so inspiring….I still am enjoying her glee when she was  sharing  her fiber arts experiences at our recent retreat. I am in awe of how much Debbie accomplishes…not only does she craft at the handcraft (not homemade) level, she “runs” a school and finds time to spend with her husband.

Debbie has given me permission to post her latest sentiments. ” All in all a great collection of photos and precious moments at the retreat. The pleasure of knitting and crocheting has brought so many special moments into my life as well as the very amazing beach house soon to be filled with fiber art projects and accomplishments. Thank you so much.”

HEY GUYS!
I really have nothing significant to post about, but since I have midterms Tuesday and Wednesday, and since I was let out of class and work early today, OF COURSE I’m not going to take advantage of all this extra time I have to study; thus, I shall blog.

So not much has happened. Sure, Halloween has come and gone, but it seemed like a normal weekend to me, except with less clothes on people walking around. Kristina and Judy have visited me (Judy twice!) so that was really fun. I think you guys should follow their lead and come to Penn as well!

It’s 70 freakin degrees today… I love it, but it’s just weird since it was freezing last week and it’s November. Campus is really pretty though.

This is the ugly walk behind the Quad that leads me to the Nursing building. Relatively ugly, but still pretty.

The second time Judy visited, WongFu was here. I know they went to your areas/schools as well, but I’m still going to talk about them because I’m running out of stuff to mention haha. So this was a much smaller event than Tech’s. We got to the front of the Meet and Greet line pretty much immediately. They remembered Judy! Phil was like JUDY DIEP, I REMEMBER YOU! And I finally go to meet them and get a picture with them too We found out that they’re considering Tech as a location for the next ISA concert (Judy emailed Mr. Williams right after the event via my phone lol.)

Homecoming was last weekend, so it was like Alumni Homecoming Weekend at Tech. I got a free scarf that I absolutely LOVELOVELOVE. It brings me one step closer to Daniel Radcliffe LOL.

There was also a football game against our rival, Princeton. We won 42-7 beechesss! So after the 3rd quarter, we threw toast and left to pick up our free Homecoming t-shirts (which aren’t special enough for me to take a picture of.)

Yes it was yesterday when Ads and I saw that little brown poodle in Cartimar.  I was not an avid fan of poodle, cause’ I love pug among all the dog breeds, but that was the time that I began to like poodle as well (the color brown not the white or black poodle, only brown).  It was really tempting to buy it because it’s quite cheap. But for the reason that we already have 3 dogs at home, Beauty, Lyka and Debbie, my mom may not agree on having another dog. Haaayyy…he’s so cute…

Debbie and Winston are friends from my fist church. I do not know what it is about first churches… its almost like family somehow. And though i have left that church many years now, the people there have a special special place in my heart.

Debbie has a history of lupus. But recently she is diagnosed with leukaemia. Do visit their blog, and offer a prayer at the very least.

Meet Kerry Twigley. Kerry is one of my favorite tards. She’s a first class stalker, she writes long never-ending posts, she has a martyrdom complex, possesses an unhealthy obsession with the natural phenomenon known as Marvin (Mark + Kevin) and above all, she’s a ball of fun.
I plan to cover Kerry most extensively on this blog, but before we dig back and observe Kerry’s past endeavours, lets see what Kerry’s been up to the past week or so.

Kerry and her stalker friends Kerry M, Amy Milne and Debbie started their weekend on Saturday at Harrods where they “accidently” bumped into Nicky & family.

it was MARKS suggestion we go to harrods! he tweeted me with a list of things to do while in london! … so we took his suggestion n went sat lunchtime .. seriously didnt expect to see nicky! …. i turned round n he smiled n said hiya how are you ya alright … and informed us he had to go to toilet! … think he meant take a twin to the toilet … twins are adorable btw .. rocco was talking to us aswell as rawwwwwring at us .. with a dinosaur …. before attacking his bro with it! …. nicky even queued up behind me to pay … i tell ya remembering your pin no while nicky is behind u isnt easy n twins are running round near you lol soooooo cute they are! … nicky even asked us if we were going to x factor day after … and said to me ” that makes me laugh that how can ya take a quick photo” … loooool hes lovely! …

Yes, this is how Kerry writes. It gets tedious after a while. Notice how she has no problem sharing private details of Nicky’s TWINS on the internet. Why do the members of Westlife’s official forum need to know when Nicky takes one of his kids to the toilet?

So am i not allowed to go into Harrods to have a look round since i have never been to London and go to the toy section to get a toy for my wee cousin then after harrods we went to the x factor studio so course i’d take my camera to meet the contestants or anybody else. Of course he does. But he realizes that after a year off, they need to thank any fan they have left, no matter how creepy she may be.

Everywhere Kerry goes, she meets resistence. People just don’t like her. I wonder why?

as a matter of fact KERRY! i was gonna have it out with u and i did tell the rest of the girls i was going to however u went shooting down the road after gmtv so i didnt have the chance 2. i WILL say it to your face because im not gonna get accused of “bullying” on this forum im 26 not 6!. i think sweetheart as roch said u should have said something to me at xfactor and not stormed off having a 5 year old hissy fit when mark walked past u and dont deny it we all saw u it was very entertaining to say the least.

also my comment was clearly to say i think its odd that u were in the same shop and same floor. the fact he had his children there should have been a indication for you to take ya little cameras and breeze off.

anyway enough said i shall leave it at that they are nice pictures but the phrase dont throw stones in glass houses comes to mind

Kerry loves being a wee keyboard warrior and accuse others of “bullying” her. She also will never confront any of those “bullies” in the real world, because there she doesn’t have an audience of forum goers to get on her side with her sob stories and clever manipulation. We shall learn more about this behavior of hers in the future. For now, let us return to the story, not before you can feast your eyes on Kerry’s stalking buddies: Uno, dos, tres. Oooh, sexy.

On Sunday, Kerry and co. went to stalk Westlife at the X Factor studios.

Learning begins at home. I am a staunch believer of that view point, and take my responsibility as my daughter’s first teacher very seriously. My husband and I try to fill our house with fun-yet-educational toys, lot of colorful books, and educational DVDs. Debbie is perfectly happy looking at her books or playing with her toys. She also has loads of time to play outdoors, and loves running around the house hollering and chasing a ball as much as playing a tame game of ‘cooking’ indoors.

She is also a BIG FAN of children’s videos on YouTube, and educational DVDs. She loves Baby Einstein videos, Sesame Street songs, Dora the Adventurer (her favorite!), and anything with lots of toys or animals, colors, and loud music! I admit that I have a very selfish reason for letting her watch them… that’s the only time I can get her to stop hating food long enough to eat it!! Don’t get me wrong, we do have really fun eating time, when we don’t watch TV and concentrate on finishing what’s on the plate. Debbie can feed herself, and she does enjoy doing it. But sometimes, she gets it into her head that she can live on love and fresh air! and there is nothing a mother can do to change her mind… other than switching on the computer or the television…

Apart from the obvious value of these videos and DVDs (!), I really believe they are useful to a child’s learning process. Which is why I was shocked at the study published by the University of Washington, that the Baby Einstein DVDs make children… dumb… (to be very blunt)! The study says:

The scientists found that for every hour per day spent watching baby DVDs and videos, infants understood an average of six to eight fewer words than infants who did not watch them. Baby DVDs and videos had no positive or negative effect on the vocabularies on toddlers 17 to 24 months of age.

Well, I don’t know about that. Baby Einstein videos have pictures of these large and colorful toys in the shape of animals and other shapes that a child needs to learn about. I think it is much better to let a child learn the names of shapes, animals, fruits, vegetables etc. through song, music and fun than through getting a book out, pointing at objects and loudly repeating the names!

And anyway, unless parents simply dump their children in front of a TV or computer for hours together, I don’t think these DVDs are going to do any major damage. If parents want to take the easy way out and let their children watch TV all day, I think the children were destined for limited intelligence, DVDs on not! As a parent, it is my responsibility to decide how much time my child watches videos, how much reading time she gets, and how she learns about the world. If I go wrong with my planning, I don’t think I have the right to blame any one else for my bad judgment.

The Baby Einstein Company seems to be doing something good for children across the world. They are parents too, so I am guessing they must possess some parenting experience! Give them a break! Come on!! They are normal parents who decided to make a fun video for their kids… we’re blaming them that they did not do their research?!!? Ok, so the scientists who made nuclear bombs do a lot of research, so I guess wiping away an entire country is acceptable… I mean, criticising their work is one thing, but thinking people deserve a refund!?!?! Really now!

Too many people now are looking to shift the blame on some one else for just about anything. If your baby is not an Einsten before he is 2, maybe that DVD is to blame; if your boy is roughing up classmates in school, maybe the teachers are to blame; if your child broke the law, maybe the society is to blame… when a person commits murder, maybe the people who ignored him at work are to blame…

When did mistakes stop depending on the wrong choices a person made, and start depending on everybody else’s behavior? When do WE take responsibility for our mistakes? And when will we teach our children that when they become adults, THEY are answerable for their mistakes, and that they cannot shift the blame?

I for one cannot believe that some DVD is being blamed for children’s lack of learning. What do you think?

Congresswoman’s initials on target at gun range prompts Republican activist’s resignation

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Sun Sentinel/Anthony Man—Republican activist Ed Napolitano has apologized to U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, and resigned from all his Republican Party positions, over the actions of a Wasserman Schultz political opponent at an event sponsored by the club Napolitano used to lead.

Napolitano’s resignation and apology were prompted by what happened at the Southeast Republican Club on Oct. 6. Instead of the usual community center meeting room, the Napolitano-led club met at a gun range.

Among the approximately 40 people at the event was Robert Lowry, a Republican seeking his party’s nomination to run against Wasserman Schultz next year.

Lowry shot at a target bearing the letters “DWS” next to the silhouette head.

Lowry said he didn’t know who wrote Wasserman Schultz’ initials on his target, but said he knew they were there before he started shooting. He initially described it as a “joke,” but after answering several questions he said it “was a mistake” to use a target labeled “DWS.”

After the event was reported on in the Oct. 9 Sun Sentinel, it was picked up, reported, and commented on by national news outlets, generated a fury in the blogosphere, and drew critical reactions from Democrats.

Napolitano said he wasn’t aware of the target with Wasserman Schultz’ initials on the night of the event.

But in a letter to the congresswoman dated Oct. 12, he apologized.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to you and your family for an incident that occurred at a function we sponsored recently…. Let me say that this action was wrong and should never have happened. It was stupid and irresponsible to do such a thing.”
