De nuevo vuelvo tras un tiempo de silencio con otra entrega más de versiones de canciones, esta vez dedicada a canciones que tratan temas LGTB o bien que son puros hinmos de esta comunidad. Esta canción es la mas conocida de la cantante Alaska y es uno de los himnos mas reconocidos de las comunidades gays de hispanoamérica y es que su letra es todo un grito de rebelión y libertad : ” ¿A quién le importa lo que yo haga? ¿A quién le importa lo que yo diga? Yo soy así y así seguire nunca cambiare” Fue versionada hace unos años por la cantante Thalia, que le dio un toque más electrónico y más moderno, aunque en lo personal sigo prefiriendo la de Alaska.

Las rusas TATU, tubieron su epoca dorada hace unos años gracias a que vendieron su imagen de lesbianas, que más tarde se desmintió, lo que hizo que su carreta se tambaleara. Aún asi sus canciones perviven en la memoria de muchos  y a pesar de todo la farsa que las rodeó, no se puede desmentir que lo que dicen muchas de sus canciones son situaciones muy reales.  Buscando en la red encontré una versión muy curiosa (y graciosa) que se hizo de esta canción interpretada por Deborah Ombres, para su programa de la MTv.

One of the challenges of creating a small-group experience of this sort was just how to break this notion of a Christian barbarian into individual study topics—all able to stand-alone in an open group environment yet maintaining some sense of progression. Regardless of where we land, you can expect Episode 4 to be streamlined, missional, and spiritually provocative in that the experience we create is expected to take you and your groups on a journey.

Here at AppMtn, it isn’t so very unusual to receive an outraged email or comment after I’ve said something less than flattering about a name.  The longer I write, the more keenly I think about the fact that these names are worn by real human beings.

So it is doubly thrilling when I write something and the parents are happy to discover the post.  Better still, they write about it on their blog.  Which brings us to adorable baby Estelle over at The Emperor’s New Crib.  Thanks to her parents, I now know that frikadelle means meatball in Danish.

A bunch of other random thoughts:

• I like Anneliese.  I can understand respelling her Annalise or Annalisa.  But Analyse?  Yup, I’ve just spotted a baby Analyse.  I don’t think her parents are psychiatrists;
• Anyone think True will catch on as a first name?  It’s sort of like a virtue name on steroids – far bolder than the established Grace and Faith, stark compared to the gently old-fashioned Felicity or Amity.  Actor Forest Whitaker has a daughter called True Isabella Summer.  True Jackson, VP is a Nickelodeon show ’bout a super-stylish teen who ends up heading up a line at an honest-to-goodness fashion label.  (And no, her mom’s name isn’t Kimora.)  The show is in season #2 and now airs on Nick UK an Nick Latin America;
• Nicole Kidman is about to return to the big screen as Claudia in the musical Nine. If it is half the hit of Moulin Rouge, the sadly neglected Claudia could finally get a boost.  After all, the devilish Satine still surfaces on message boards;
• I keep meaning to mention the compound name of my favorite project runway finalist – Carol Hannah.  I’m not wild about either name, but I find the combination strangely appealing.  Or is it too close to Poltergeist’s tragic Carol Anne?  I also heard a prospective model’s name mentioned during casting for the contestants’ shows – Drielle, which sounds a too much like a French power tool to be pretty;
• Nancy mentions strangely appropriate names – as in, a retail analyst named Tiffany Co.  I recently met a cantor named Aria and while chasing the kids around the Bass Outdoor Extravaganza Warehouse Winter Wonderland, I heard a camouflage-clad dad call his son Hunter;
• Bewildertrix spotted a Juno Alexandra Zénaïde, little sister to Hugh.  I agree with her – what a fabulous combo;
• Digital Spy talked with Emmerdale (it’s a UK soap) star Charlotte Bellamy about the names she and partner Mungo Denison chose for their three kids: sons Sunnie and Herbie and daughter Teddie Boo Florence;
• She’s not here yet, but Joey Lawrence tells Celebrity Baby Blog that Charleston’s little sister will be called Liberty Grace.

A few noteworthy posts you might’ve missed:

• Did you catch the Nameberry post on Old Lady Names?  It’s interesting to see how trends evolve – they report on the granny chic picks they’ve mentioned in each edition of Beyond Jennifer & Jason, now rebooted as Beyond Ava & Aiden.  They’ve definitely caught on in the DC ‘burbs – I can think of Ida, Mabel, Hazel and Elsie all in my ‘hood.  Funny to think that someday Cynthia, Barbara and Deborah will all sound fresh again, too;
• It’s no longer fashion limbo.  They’re now outlier names. Celebrity Baby Blog interviewed Nameberry’s Pamela Redmond Satran about names like Paulina, Bronwyn and Helena;

Passeando pelo site da Saraiva, olhando os livros que estavam em pré-venda em lançamento, me chamou atenção o título “A Vida Secreta das Abelhas”. Nunca tive nada contra bichos em geral e costumo ler de tudo. Cliquei para ver sobre o que se tratava e, para surpresa, as abelhas em questão eram meras coadjuvantes.

Arriscando, sem saber se iria gostar ou não, acabei comprando o livro. Achei que seria mais um livro com uma historinha água com açúcar, mas para minha surpresa (e agradável surpresa) o livro é bem mais do que isso. Cheio de passagens interessantes e a descrição de como ocorriam os atos preconceituoso em estados altamente racistas nos Estados Unidos, em uma época em que eu nem sonhava em nascer, são carregados de emoção que atingem um leitor mais sensível. Hoje em dia é inconcebível nós aceitarmos que uma pessoa seja humilhada e destratada apenas pela sua cor de pele, mas tão freqüente em alguns locais em outra época e que, tristemente, ainda acontece em alguns estados brasileiros, de forma velada.

“A Vida Secreta das Abelhas” é um romance da premiada autora especializada em biografias, Sue Monk Kidd. E conta a história de Lily Owens, uma garota que cresceu nos anos 60 na Carolina do Sul, sem a figura materna e com um pai severo. O estado em questão é marcado por forte preconceito e segregação racial e religioso. Quando ela era ainda muito novinha, apenas quatro anos de idade, a sua mãe Deborah separou-se do pai e saiu de casa. Em uma oportunidade, ela regressou e enquanto terminava de arrumar suas coisas o ex-marido acabou chegando à casa e diante de uma discussão, Lily encontra uma arma e acidentalmente acaba disparando e o tiro acerta sua mãe que vem a morrer. A menina cresce com a convicção de que assassinou a mãe e o pai jamais tentou modificar esse pensamento e sentimento dela, muito pelo contrário, reafirmava o fato.

Dez anos após o incidente, já com 14 anos, é natural que nesta fase as garotas sintam muita necessidade de uma figura feminina para que possam ter conversas a respeito de suas dúvidas, sobre o corpo estar mudando, reações naturais que não fazem mais parte da infância. Diante disso, Lily pensa muito na mãe e sente muito a sua falta, pois era uma pessoa que a amou e ela também ama sem nem ao menos ter conhecido direito. Lily, acima de tudo, necessita de perdão. Perdão pelo que acredita que tenha feito, por ter sido a causadora da perda que tanto lhe aflige e, principalmente, perdão a si mesma.

Tudo é mais difícil para Lily devido a personalidade do seu pai. Um homem bruto, ríspido, de fala e comportamento árido. Na Carolina do Sul, onde vive, a única representação feminina na sua vida é da sua única amiga, Rosaleen, uma negra que toma conta dela desde que a sua mãe morrera.

Rosaleen decide cumprir o seu papel de cidadã e responder por aquilo que lhe cabia de direito: votar. Mas os brancos não estavam contentes com os novos direitos adquiridos pelos negros e no dia em que Rosaleen sai para votar, é presa e espancada. Indignada, a garota decide agir. A mulher não podia mais continuar morando onde estava e acabou indo embora. Lily resolve ajudar a “mãe adotiva” e foge com ela. Sem nem pensar duas vezes ela abandona o pai, como fizera sua mãe e vai embora sem deixar vestígios. O destino delas é Tiburon. Lily descobre nas coisas particulares de sua mãe uma imagem de uma mulher negra como Nossa Senhora e o endereço de um local em uma outra cidade. Disposta a conhecer o passado da sua mãe ela vai para Tiburon acompanhada de Rosaleen. Mas uma negra e uma adolescente branca viajando fugidas juntas é algo que não deixa de ser facilmente notado e percebido.

As duas encontram refúgio na casa de três mulheres negras apicultoras, irmãs bem excêntricas, as irmãs Boatwright, August, May e June (a mãe delas gostava da primavera e do verão. Então como elas nasceram nos meses de Agosto, Maio e Junho, receberam esses nomes – os correspondentes em inglês).

A princípio a estada delas gera muita desconfiança e desconforto, mas a simpática August passa por cima de tudo, inclusive dos mistérios e de Lily para recebê-las e acolhe-las da melhor forma possível. Ao longo dos dias, a garota aprende com as irmãs o maravilhoso mundo das abelhas, do mel e da Nossa Senhora negra. E foi com essa família de mulheres incríveis que Lily descobriu o verdadeiro sentido e profundidade da palavra família.

Por mais que a garota esconda a verdade do seu passado, August sabe de tudo, quem ela era e, principalmente, conhecia o passado secreto de Deborah. E a revelação disso é muito bacana, quando a garota se aproxima de August que está sentada em um balanço e a negra comenta que está lendo um livro sobre uma menina que perdeu a mãe quando ainda era criança. Sem esconder a ansiedade e profundidade da revelação, Lily pergunta o que acontece com a menina e a outra revela que não sabe, pois ela começou a ler o livro havia pouco tempo, mas que sabia que a menina estava, naquele momento, se sentindo muito perdida e sozinha.

Os problemas da segregação racial continuam presentes na cidade em que elas agora habitam e Lily se vê em uma situação bem difícil quando seu pai aparece para buscá-la, mas é surpreendente o rumo que a história toma.

Apesar de o livro ter como personagens principais predominância de mulheres, não é um livro para meninas, nem se prende a uma específica categoria. Para o leitor que se envolve facilmente em uma boa história, é garantia de momentos de diversão, indignação e emoção. Assim como nas histórias de vilões e heróis, o leitor vai se apaixonar por algumas personagens e detestar outras.

Para quem gosta de um livro bem escrito, leve em alguns momentos e profundo em outros, de histórias de amor, por si próprio, pela família e pelo outro, com certeza vai gostar de “A Vida Secreta das Abelhas”.

Recentemente ele ganhou uma adaptação para o cinema, sendo comentado por ser o primeiro filme mais sério em que Dakota Fanning interpreta, no papel da jovem Lily.

Omigoodness, during class, when we were reading about Deborah, the female judge who conquered and defeated some peoples, I kept thinking to myself, “Gosh, i can’t just imagine it. Imagine what you say? Just think about it. Imagine a judge named Deborah conquering some kings. I just can’t imagine a couple kings going, ‘AAH! It’s Deborah!” I mean seriously! It’s almost as ridiculous, yet strangely funny as this book me and my friends found in the library. Guess what it was titled? “ALL ABOUT EGGS.” There’s something strange, yet funny about it. It’s RIDICULOUS! Yes, i realize I’m reusing words. My blog is going green. We’re SAVING this world. You can thank me later.

Doc Childre and Deborah Rozman Ph.D.—Like The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown’s new book, The Lost Symbol, is creating controversy. This time it’s about what’s real and what’s not in his interpretations of the many mysterious symbols that are in our nation’s capitol. Were our founding fathers, who carefully designed and placed these mystical symbols, trying to tell us something? (They were Freemasons whose motto is ordo ab chao or “order out of chaos“.) Are Brown’s descriptions of noetic science (exploring the nature and potentials of consciousness) and quantum-indeterminate electronic noise REGS (Random Event Generators) fact or fiction? Are his assertions true that existing organizations had “categorically proven that human thought, if properly focused had the ability to affect and change physical mass” and that “our thoughts actually interacted with the physical world, whether or not we knew it, effecting change all the way down to the subatomic realm?“

Brown states in The Lost Symbol that in the hours following the horrifying events of September 11, 2001 the field of noetic science made a quantum leap forward in proving a connection between science and mysticism and bringing order out of chaos. “Four scientists discovered that as the frightened world came together and focused in shared grief on this single tragedy, the outputs of thirty-seven different Random Event Generators around the world suddenly became significantly less random. Somehow, the oneness of this shared experience, the coalescing of millions of minds, had affected the randomizing function of these machines, organizing their outputs and bringing order form chaos.” His fictional character Trish talks about “software that quantifies the nation’s emotional state.” Brown goes on. His fictional scientist Katherine “created beautifully symmetrical ice crystals by sending loving thoughts to a glass of water as it froze. Incredibly the converse was also true: when she sent negative, polluting thoughts to the water, the ice crystals froze in chaotic, fractured forms.” What is Dan Brown trying to tell us?

Extra Eye Pencil Deborah sono Waterproof Comfort e Tenuta Estrema ed effettivamente dopo più di 10 ore nessuna sbavatura! Oftamologicamente testate non bruciano gli occhi. Alta scrivenza ed estremamente morbide e facili da sfumare sulla palpebra. Nonostante la discreta qualità a mio parere il prezzo è un pò altino!

Judges, the seventh book of the Old Testament in the Bible.  The book of Judges reflects on the time frame from Joshuas’ death all the way through Samuel and the leadership of King Saul. During this time period, God would call certain people, “judges” to lead His people. In the world today, we call those who preside over our courts and the “law” judge or judges. “In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes”. That is  a terrible thought, to think that people would be left to their own judgement? One can only imagine what type of MESS this would cause for the entire land. No order, no rules, fights would and of course did break out at any given time.

We see that God did put the judges into place to rest, rule and abide. Some of the judges are known as military leaders, others like Samson I’m not sure if leader is what I would call him. One with many wives, might be a better name. 

There are two types of Judges.  Major: Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Jephthah and Samson. Minor: Tola, Jair, Ibaz, Elon and Abdon. I’m glad to see that there was atleast one woman in the bunch. Deborah was able to hold her on as far giving directions to Barak from the Lord and traveled with him to Kedesh.

These might or should I say are the jobs of men, in that day, but I’m proud of Deborah holding it down for the ladies!!!

Against the myth that God only wants men in leadership roles stands the story of Deborah, the prophetess-judge-leader of ancient Israel. Some interpreters will assert that the story of Deborah is a criticism of men who would not rise to the occasion. This is partially true. When Barak refuses to go to the battlefield without Deborah, she declares that the victory will belong to a woman (Judges 4:8-10)—but Deborah does not get this honor. Still, to see the whole story as a mere critique of weak-willed men misses the respect the biblical narrator—and even Barak—had for Deborah.

Before being a “judge,” Deborah was a prophetess, a role which meant she was a preacher and teacher. To get this recognition, Deborah would have had to show that God had truly called her (see Deuteronomy 13:1-5 and 18:17-22 for some of the tests). In addition to her full-time job, she was a wife (4.4) and mother (5.7).

The English translation of “judge” does not do justice to the role; she did far more than just hold court. The NIV is correct in saying she “was leading” Israel, as that is really what “judging” implies in the Book of Judges. Judging, therefore, involved both settling disputes among the people (4.5) but also commanding military leaders into action (4.6-7). There is no doubt that Deborah is Barak’s superior officer.

For example, Deborah will send Barak into the battle while remaining behind to observe the action (4.14)—the traditional posture of a supreme commander, like a king.

The narrator of Judges has preserved for us the victory song known as the “Song of Deborah” (chapter 5). This is a military poem from a woman’s point of view: Deborah is praised for her leadership, Jael, who killed the enemy commander Sisera, for her ingenuity and bravery, and even Sisera’s mother is remembered because her son will not be coming home.

If God so called a woman to serve him as Deborah did under the old covenant, how much more, then, will God use women under the new covenant where now there is neither “male nor female” (Gal 3:28)! Deborah’s story is a good place to acknowledge that God’s Mission is larger than our stereotypes.

If there is one make up item I am totally addicted to and can never get enough of that would be lipglosses and lipsticks. I  always find myself buying new ones, have a bunch at home and carry a few in my bag. This is a kind of  an overview of my most favourite ones or at least the ones I wear most.

• Bourjois Effet 3D MAX — comes in a really great range of colours and provides amazing shine. The down side is that it is one of the most short lasting lip glosses I’ve ever tried. It looks great but you constantly have to apply more so not a good option if you can’t carry it with you or just don’t feel like having to retouch it every 15 minutes. Can also look a bit thin without any base like for example lipliner or lip pencil. The applicator might surprise you, it’s not a brush but a very flexible piece of plastic with which you distribute the lipgloss on your lips.
  
• L’oreal Glam Shine — I have quite a few of these and really love them. The applicator is really nice and the range of colours is quite wide as well. Probably the lipglosses I reach for THE MOST out of all I have are: 1) 303 Topaz Strass, a really cute pink, and 2) 31 tender Crystal, which is slightly thicker and a bit darker. I also love the Glam Shine 6H in Always Pink but if I had to choose between it and Topaz Strass, the latter would definitely win by a mile. L’oreal lipsticks aren’t that bad as a whole as well, although I got a regular Color Riche one in 254 (pink one, not sure about the name) and was really disappointed.
  
• L’oreal Shine Gelee — I did a small review on this one before. I like it mainly because it’s very easy to apply, you don’t have to bother with brushes or applicators. I think I said previously that the colour was a bit of a let down because it was kind of bluish undertoned. Lately I’ve worn it quite a lot and have grown to love it, besides anything bluish undertoned is going to make your teeth look whiter or at least that’s what they say
• Bourjois Eau de Gloss — no this isn’t a perfume gloss or something like that :p The one I have in number 15 Framboise glacee is a bit too bright on its own so I always put it over a transparent gloss and it looks quite nice. Unfortunately, just like the 3D MAX one it’s extremely undurable and also the container gets a bit messy after a while. I have dropped it a few times only for it to stain things.
• Sleek lipsticks — despite the fact that Sleek falls into the “drugstore, quite affordable” type of cosmetics it doesn’t mean that their products are low quality. In fact, many make-up artists lately are raving about the Sleek eyeshadow pallettes which cost only about £5 yet offer a quite good colour pay off. Same with their lipsticks. The packaging is nice and again the colour pay off doesn’t disappoint. My favourite one is number 840 Rose petal which is a peachy pink and can be used under Bourjois’ 3D MAX for more intensity.
• And the winner for best transparent lipgloss is… Soap and Glory’s Sexy Motherpucker — transparent lipgloss and lip plumper all in one, it’s my absolute favourite. The packaging is very pretty (yes I’m a sucker for cute packaging ) and I think the gloss was voted best lip plumper on Gok Wan’s How to Look Good Naked (tv show in the UK). Definitely would repurchase again and again and again…

HOW TO MAKE YOUR LIPS LOOK PLUMPER

What I normally do to make my lips appear plumper is the following:

1) trace the outline of your lips using a lip pencil in a similar colour to the lipstick or lipgloss you’re going to use later. Start at the corners and follow slightly outside of the natural lip line.

2) Fill in with the same lip pencil. This is going to provide a base and prevent the colour from fading easily.

3) Next, apply either a transparent lip plumper gloss and wait a few seconds before applying your favourite coloured lipgloss

OR

Apply a lipstick gently over the already applied lip plumper and, if you want, in order to intensify the colour follow with a coloured lip gloss on top.
