Par deux fois j’ai perdu une (petite) amie devant un film. Comme de par hasards, deux très bons films. On verra le premier à l’occasion, aujourd’hui on parle du second. Enfin, second, c’est le premier long-métrage de Rémi Bezançon, qui a ensuite réalisé l’extraordinaire Premier Jour Du Reste De Ta Vie, son second film. Ca va, vous suivez ? Ma vie en l’air donc, petite vanne pour un grand film de 2005. La comédie romantique semble faire parti de ces genres maudits en France, de ceux qu’on est pas capable de faire aussi bien que les ricains. Beaucoup s’y sont cassés les dents. Mais pas Bezançon, parce qu’il sait tenir une caméra, parce qu’il a un grand sens du script et peut compter sur des acteurs qui en se donnent plus que d’habitude. Avant « l’incident » j’avais vu et revu Ma vie en l’air, film parfait pour s’offrir la surprise d’un bon moment.

La mère de Yann est morte en le mettant au monde dans un avion. La compagnie aura offert à l’enfant un ticket gratuit, à vie. Mais Yann n’en aura jamais profité, traumatisé depuis la naissance et phobique de l’avion. Alors que la femme de sa vie doit partir plusieurs mois à l’étranger, le maintenant vingtenaire est incapable d’aller la rejoindre, mettant un terme à leur relation. Quelques années plus tard, Yann vit avec Ludo, son aussi pénible qu’attachant meilleur ami. Les deux hommes s’étaient juré de ne plus flirter avec les voisines. C’était avant l’emménagement d’Alice, qui ne semble pas non plus indifférente aux charmes de Yann. Le happy end serait trop simple, le passé ressurgit et Yann va devoir choisir et surtout se poser la question. Peut-il laisser sa phobie faire ses choix à sa place et le faire passer à côté de sa vie.

Bon, en fait, ce qui tue dans Ma vie en l’air, c’est la structure. L’histoire ne cesse de faire des bonds dans le temps, insère des flashbacks plus ou moins utiles et se permet quelques petits délires de réalisation. Le film devient ultra efficace et cloue au fauteuil tout en laissant l’ennui au loin. Dans un second temps les dialogues font leur petit effet. J’ose affirmer qu’on y trouve quelques pépites (l’économiseur de mots, les amis d’enfance) qui restent en tête. Niveau casting c’est une des rares fois où j’ai trouvé Marion Cotillard et Gilles Lelouche supportables, ce qui à mon niveau est un bel exploit. Elbaz trouve ici un de ses meilleurs rôles alors que tous les seconds couteaux ont l’opportunité de briller (rhaaa, les autres filles !). Reste à saluer la musique, composée par Sinclair comme sur le Premier jour du reste de ta vie. Super boulot, thèmes qui reviennent et score original. Tous les ingrédients pour un film qui vous reste en tête.

Ma vie est l’air est le Divx DVD que je ressortais à la moindre occasion, pour montrer aux potes comme pour passer une bonne soirée dans les bras d’une fille qui sent bon. Depuis « l’incident » j’ai regardé des bouts, mais jamais plus en entier. Ca reviendra. D’ici là, faites moi plaisir en vous faisant plaisir. C’est de la bombe et il fait froid dehors. Aucune excuse.
Oh. Et, heu… Si votre ex appelle pendant le film, décrochez pas. Okay ?

Since my mother was diagnosed with cancer I have not have much time or energy to go out and see many art exhibitions. In addition to that, there hasn’t been much time for even working in the studio. Other than the small drawings I have done I have been sort of out of the art loop.

In saying that, Monday I was able to make it over to the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum on the campus of Washington University. I also what to state that I like going there to see contemporary art than I like going to the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. I think the exhibitions at the Kemper are more varied and I like that the museum is free and being in the situation I am in, free is great. I honestly have not been too interested in the recent exhibitions at CAMSTL.

The exhibitions I saw were Chance Aesthetics and Metabolic City. I will separate the two into separate posts. I was interested in Chance Aesthetics because in my own art I have used elements of chance to develop my work. I tend to use it as a starting point such as dumping ink or paint, using drip patterns and allowing “mistakes” to happen and worked with the unexpected things that come up when making art.

Historically, art has been a skill in which an artist demands exceptional control to achieve a great work. This means works were planned endeavors obsessive perfection. In the 20th century some artists decided to work in opposition to this. The exhibition starts with the Surrealists and Dada, which makes sense to me. What I think is so great about using chance as a basis for a work is that it becomes playful and fun instead of being an intellectual and dry assignment that a lot of art has become.

Some of the works are sloppy and dirty but some are totally obsessive, clean and systematic. The latter still retain an element of surprise and engagement.

Some notable artists and works. I like Ellsworth Kelly’s gridded, cut-up and reassembled drawings.

There is Mimmo Rotella’s decollages of advertisements that you might see on the streets where posters are layered and ripped apart. Sort of like a defaced pop art.

Similar to Rotella’s is Jacques Villegle’s work. Something is very subversive and punk about these works. I like that.

I did love the simplicity of Duchamp’s readymade, “hatrack”, that was hanging from the ceiling. I think most people would see the spider-like look of this work and I think most would enjoy this one cause of its playfullness and it is non-confrontational.

I enjoyed William Anastasi’s subway drawings. I was doing stuff like this when I was in London. I am not saying I did it first but I feel a connection to this cause of my own personal experience with this mindless exercise. Fun and surprising to make.

There is the systematic digital looking Francois Morellet’s telephone directory works. By just looking at it, it looks like a non-objective minimalism. There is the white one that has the layer of varnish on some areas…white on white…so when you look at it at certain angles you see the differences. I think of Ryman’s white paintings. With the black one’s I think of Ad Reinhart’s black paintings. Those ones are definitely more quiet and subtile. Some of them use hot and sometimes competing color schemes that are more challenging. His work can seem like a combination of a Sol LeWit type of work and op-art. The grid seems to be a very important part of the structure of his work.

In addition to those works there is Arman’s work in which he collect Claes Oldenburg’s trash. Interesting in an invasion of privacy kind of way. There was a osmotic work by George Maciunas in which spills ink onto a canvas ans lets it spread a soak into the canvas. Marcel Jean and Andre Breton’s drawings were similar. There was Ray Johnson’s mail art and game-like works. There were some exquisite corpse drawings, John Cage compositions and a Nam June Paik’s blank films…well except dust scratches and whatever happened to interfere with the film. Plus there were Deiter Roth’s rotting works.

Sooo this is one of the new CheerNo skins that will be available at the Skin/Shape fair! I realized AFTER taking photos that I was wearing the sunglasses the whole time, but trust me, the eyes are great and the freckles are wonderful. Question existentielle et mémorielle : à quand les départs ?

Ca y est, j’ai enfin les billets tant attendus dans les mains. Je serais à 10 000 km d’ici dans un peu plus d’un mois. Ju reverra sa famille et son quartier anéanti, moi j’apprendrais à vaincre ma timidité et à sortir de ma réserve pour leur montrer un peu plus qui je suis et leur dire à quel point je tiens à eux. Je fais partie de ces rares chanceux qui ont une belle-famille en or.

Je ne sais pas à quoi ressembleront ces vacances, quelles activités combleront ce court mois  loin de chez moi mais certaines idées trottent déjà dans ma tête. Le choix s’étend des trucs un peu clichés et girly comme le shopping, aux activités ultra-studieuses telles qu’une visite du Louvre. Et même si 3/4 du planning tombera dans l’oubli par manque de temps et d’occasion, il est plaisant de planifier et imaginer que ces vacances seront parfaites.

Un des inconvénients de cette bonne nouvelle, à part que je risque de mourir avant d’arriver à bon port, est que mon portefeuille crie famine. Passer d’un butin à quatre chiffres à quelques euros éparpillés ici et là laissent des séquelles. J’ai vécu toute la journée une phase post-traumatique où j’énumérais toutes les télés, ordinateurs, jeux, livres, décos, que j’aurais pu m’offrir avec tout ce magot.

Mais je me suis consolé en pensant aux 80-85 films proposés dans l’avion que je pourrais regarder sur mon écran individuel. Ce vol s’annonce comme la séance de cinéma la plus chère de mon histoire. Et moi qui pensais voyager de nuit pour dormir, je vais tâcher de rester éveillé durant les 11 heures de vol pour en profiter un maximum. Selon mes calculs je vais pouvoir regarder 7 films de 1h30. Le choix s’annonce difficile…

Just another fine day in Second Life. I was looking for something cute and comfy, with a little touch of  ‘aris’ on it,  so I had a look at my huge collection of sunglasses, Decollage has grown in me lately… and I took the dust off my nice old elven ears, bought at The Plastik.

The new items I am wearing for this post are the gorgeous new TRUTH hair (Zach, worth every L$) and the highly detailed scripted scarf I found in this little beautiful store, MIEL… I met the owner there and they are working on new male stuff, so be prepared

The suspenders are old friend of mine, you know Kari hasn’t released new stuff in a while but i keep praying for a mega-release (Mennooooo!). The boots are Redgrave’s, went camo this time; the Tee is from Emery, old collection but still rad, and so is the wristband, a must-have accessory for a guy inworld.

The jeans are new for me, but they have been released for a while, at Lookr… lots of colors and styles available!

I am very excited about the MHO hunt (Make Him Over) so I will *hopefully* do a wide coverage… can’t wait!

Since I first watched Veronica Mars I have been wanting to be a kick ass PI, just as she is, and look cute as a button

So I put this outfit together, wearing this extremely cute coat from S&Q, and the cute stripped pants I found at this cute new store named NINIKO ( I craved stripped pants since I saw Adam Lambert wearing ones at Idol’s Rock night LOL). And i decided to wear this cool blonde hair from Tonic (really nice styles there) and, why not, sunglasses from Decollage… gotta <3 their fatpacks!

To finish the look of the day, I am wearing the mighty UBU Drunks sneakers, and the nice argyle socks from ARAI (it’s a fullpack), and my all-time favorite suspenders from Kari.

And… what else does a Private Detective needs… OH! For sure! A cool magnifying glass and a cool smoke pipe like this one that i found at Scribble, it makes nice bubbles
