This Little Light of Mine

About a year and a half ago I painted my bathroom orange. Not a garish orange-y orange, it’s lovely and earthy and something like pumpkin soup. 571 more words

Decorating with Books

I love to read, and I have a huge To-Be-Read pile.  To keep the ones I have read and want to keep, along with all the ones I want to read under control, I use books to decorate.  462 more words

Bear Face Cake

I made this cute cake for a lady who wanted a bear cake for her daughters birthday. I made a round cake to start with, then for the ears I cut out semi circles from some spare cake and stuck them on using buttercream. I then iced the face as normal and added the detail. The nose and mouth area was made using a piece of icing that I shaped in to a semicircle and for the cheeks I used some food colouring mixed with vodka (don’t worry, this is common practice for cake decoration and the vodka evaporates). I made flowers with a flower cutter and made the appropriate shapes for the pink of the ears and the eyes and nose. For the markings I used a flat edged cake tool.

I think this cake is so cute and perfect for a little ones birthday.
