I am almost finished with My Christmas Gifts. We didn’t celebrate last weekend but we will this weekend. These are a few of the things I made out of what I had in my basement. They look better in person then in a picture. Also the puzze still needs a little paint.

If you have old TV trays spray them with a little mettalic paint and then decoupage whatever suits your fancy. Idid this tray for a friend that loves horses and gave it to her for a gift. I did another tray for my granddaughter and decorated it with butterflies.

This used to be rusty

I finished the Spiderman Clock. I put the puzzle together, used decopauge and used some clock parts that I had hanging in my basement for a couple of years. I used wood that I had cut for some puzzle floor tile that I had made years ago for the backing. I glued Spiderman to the wood. The numbers I made on my computer and put them on the clock. Here is the finished product.

I then moved on to a rainbow music box hanger. I found this in a free box at a garage sale. One peg was off and needed to be glued. I added some paint, a bible verse and a name and I have the finished product. It plays Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

I also had one more grandson I needed to make something for. So I had some blocks of wood already cut. I created a puzzle picture using Picaso Collage of all his fans meaning our family. I decoupaged and varnished. My husband cut the puzzle out like a puzzle and it fits together perfectly. I have a little more painting and sanding to do on it but he will love it.

The Pieces

Finished Puzzle

There are so many things you can do with what you have. I also had some old shiny ornaments that didn’t look so good anymore. First I created my own pattern of paper with Jasc Paint Shop Pro. I printed out the paper and cut it into pieces and decoupaged it onto the old ornaments. They turned out very cute.

Decoupaged Ornaments

I had such fun using up what I had. I know they are not perfect gifts but gifts from the heart are the very best and my heart was in these gifts.

During a mosaic tile class last week, a gal brought in a 1/2 dozen inexpensive picture frames. She wanted to create handmade gifts for everyone on her holiday list this year. With 6 frames from the Goodwill, a little bit of glue, broken china, mismatched jewelry and a handful of photos, she created six very cool handmade gifts and only spent around $50.

Inexpensive picture frames = $12.00

Bits & Pieces = $15.00

Glue = $8.00

Grout = $10.00

Photos = $5.00 for printing

Labor = Love

The look on her families faces = Priceless!

Sorry…I really like those commercials:)

You know there’s nothing better than cool handmade gift ideas! Take the Handmade Pledge!

JDRF Silent Auction Mosaic Tile

A friend once sent me the following…When a certain artist who makes mirrors, tables & bowls decorated with images, trinkets, tile fragments & often hidden words in the designs was asked what her artwork meant to her she said: “I think I like it because it tells so much about my story.” Or anyone’s life, for that matter…Life smashes things to bits and you get to make something beautiful with the pieces.”

The beauty of combining hidden images and words under glass, and then gluing them to something, really makes my soul sing. Old books, magazines and wrapping paper are abundant in thrift stores and Goodwill stores, everywhere you look. Awhile back, I donated a custom mosaic tile piece to JDRF {Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,} for their silent auction. Dishes, photos and trinkets were given to me by members of the organization to come up with a piece that meant something to their families.

The decoupage/mosaic tile piece was created with donated bits & pieces and images of some of the children that this cause fights so hard for. The images of the children were decoupaged onto some of the glass and small picture frames that were then glued into the piece.

What a wonderful feeling to watch the children and their families stand in front of the piece with such pride and excitement.

As an FYI…just so people are aware. There are a few non-profits that I serve each year. Solicitations are unfortunately turned down due to time restraints. However, non-profits can contact me and I would be happy to give them some direction on how to implement a mosaic tile fundraiser into their silent auction or fund raising efforts.

All the best!

SHOP LOCAL!

From what I understand, the piece sold for over $600 for a really important cause!
