from another world

From beyond the stars
Transcendent, Pure,
Of unimaginable beauty,
Bringing with you
the essence of love

who are touched by you.
Mundane concerns,
troubles, and sorrows
dissolve in your presence,
Bringing joy
to ruler and ruled
To peasant and king

You bewilder us
with your grace.
All evils

You are the master alchemist.

You light the fire of love
in earth and sky

Today’s post I would like to give credit to three docs. The well-known Dr Oz who inspired part of the title of this blog. On a Larry King special in January with key people from Oprah’s closest circle of advisers, Dr Oz said words to the effect of, “It’s about the rest of your life” whether you lose weight or not, referring to the importance of getting the body, mind and soul acting in harmony. The line has stayed with me throughout the months as I put into practice the many strategies I will share here. Dr Oz always delivers health information in a way that gets through to me.

The next doc, Dr Dave, is relatively new to me, but just as helpful. His tell-it-like-it-is style delivered with genuine concern makes a lot of sense to me. I subscribe to his tips newsletter and find myself satisfied that I am doing much of what he recommends or inspired and nudged to make subtle changes here and there. You can search his archives for many worthwhile articles. Like me, he recommends the use of increased protein, through good quality sources. It’s not all about meat. For me, the thing I’ve learnt about the low carb way is that it is not no carb. Quality carbohydrates also known as “complex carbohydrates” basically covers most vegetables, many fruits and fibrous grains. These are things we know we’re supposed to eat more of. Limiting all the other types of carbs and eating up to six small meals throughout the day has worked wonders for me as I have lost, since January 2009, 24 pounds (11 kg).

And finally, but by no means least, Dr Deepak Chopra. Nourish the soul and you nourish the body. Lots of amazing messages can be found here.

Goal-Setting Influences Your Nervous System

Our body is controlled by mind. Mind controls the nervous system. A nervous system is similar to a bio-telephonic line or nerve cells, throughout the body which carries messages from one part of the body to brain or spinal cord and from there to respective parts of the body. Our body has got fifty trillion (50,000,000,000,000) cells. They are independent and interwoven . Any one cell cannot survive independently. They are mutually affected by each other.

Deepak Chopra, an international famous doctor, who is invited throughout the world for his talk has dedicated his life to investigate and teach the relation between mind and body. Initially, it was believed that mind only thinks and that there is no biological or chemical basis for thinking and emotion. Doctors used to say “Your body is OK, you just think that there is a pain.” Now, as Dr.Deepak Chopra has clearly explained in several of his books including “Ageless Body Timeless Mind” that every such fear is not just in mind. There are chemicals which are associated with fear. And these are not just in your mind but in several parts of your whole body. When such chemicals are associate with, fear creeps up in body, and the mind experiences fear. In this way your mind and body are related.

It means that goal setting is not only mental exercise but it activates the whole body towards your goals.

I was reading Deepak Chopra’s book, The Third Jesus the other day. I really liked the idea he

I was reading Deepak Chopra’s book, The Third Jesus the other day. I really liked the idea he started with, that Jesus is more than a historical figure and a theological icon, but that his real message is one of personal transformation leading to awakening, or enlightenment. The idea is obvious, but I wondered if Deepak knows that Jesus is the author of A Course in Miracles, and why he didn’t even mention that. There are a lot of quotations in the Course that deal with the message of the New Testament and how it misrepresents what Jesus actually taught. It seems that Deepak wanted to stick with the Bible, so that’s fine with me too.

However, the Course is the actual way out of the separate state of mind that besets humanity at this time. It includes a masterpiece of transformation, the 365 lessons of the Workbook which is a mind training that leads you out of your current fear-based thought system and brings you into a brand new experience of love and light beyond your imaginings. It provides the blue-print for the second coming, or the awakening of YOUR mind. This is your spiritual rebirth or your coming into wholeness, or At-One-Ment, or one-mindedness. This is a required course and it is imperative that those who are really using it not as a way to achieve a more comfortable life on this planet, but as it is intended, to awaken from the illusion that this is reality.

When you awaken, you become a different species, a homo-illuminate mind. This means that you have no limitations in your awareness. Everything changes, your life, your relationships, your fundamental awareness of yourself as a separate being is blotted out and you know You. You realize that you are not confined to body and that you are whole. You convert any thoughts of fear automatically whenever they arise. You use every thought to release the idea of separate thoughts or consciousnesses. There is only One Mind and that is YOUR MIND.

It is a natural process of evolution that you awaken into the Singularity of Whole Mind or God-consciousness, as Deepak likes to put it. The only thing he misses is that this has nothing to do with mass human behavior. The salvation of the world is you awakening, it has nothing to do with others. You know yourself as One, as Whole, not a being in a body in a world of bodies. You lose the ability to maintain conflictual thoughts because the very nature of your Mind is non-conflictual. The experience of that is your resurrection. Your frequency changes to the point of flash out and pop, you’re gone from the world of separation.

Why is that? Because this is not a real place. Jesus states this so beautifully in the Course when Helen, the scribe, asks him if the resurrection was physical. His answer is “my body disappeared because I had no more illusions about it.” And in the section in the Manual for Teachers called “What is the Resurrection?”, he states that “Very simply, the resurrection is the overcoming or the surmounting of death. It is a reawakening or rebirth, a change of mind about the meaning of the world…it is the relinquishment of all other purposes, all other interests, all other wishes and all other concerns. It is the single desire of the Son for the Father.”

“The resurrrection is the denial of death being the assertion of life. Thus is all the thinking of the world reversed entirely. Life is now recognized as salvation, and pain and misery of any kind perceived as hell. Love is no longer feared, but gladly welcomed. Idols have disappeared, and the remembrance of God shines unimpeded across the world.”

Isn’t it amazing that we go “toward love still hating it” because it is not love we are afraid of but truly what we have made of love. We think love will destroy us, but real love, the love of God is what you are. You cannot alter yourself because you didn’t create yourself. You already are saved, because you already are created perfect.

The problem I have with Deepak is that he still thinks that salvation is a long way off. That it will be accomplished en masse. He hasn’t obviously experienced the singularity that he is dreaming a dream and that it is up to him and him alone to undergo the experience of resurrection or awakening. All is whole. Everything is one and there is no possibility of conflict arising in the mind. Period. End of story.

There is no multiplicity in Heaven. It is impossible to describe, because the you that demands a description is the problem itself.

You are separate or you wouldn’t be here. You are afraid of love or you would be totally overjoyed to know that you are simply asleep and you can awaken right here and now. Jesus resurrected and when that happened, it happened for all. The only thing that doesn’t know it is you. So you have a problem and it is called your self-identity. What you made up to hide from God. But, thankfully, it isn’t real.

So, if you really want to know and experience the message of Jesus of Nazareth, and I mean experience it, because the only way to know anything is to experience it first hand. Theoretical teachings are, ultimately, meaningless. What matters is that you experience who you are, perfect and whole as God created you. You do not have the power to blot out reality and make up a new reality with you as the center of the universe. I’m sorry, it just isn’t possible. There is a loving God who did not let you actually do this. You have simply put yourself to sleep. That is all.

I truly hope this clears up all the confusion. And Jesus is real, and he did come to save you and he did save you! Isn’t it time that you know this, in your depths, in your heart of hearts? Your awakening is at hand. It is deeply personal to you. You cannot describe it or even share it sometimes. But, I promise you, it is beyond your wildest dream.

I love you and bless you with all my heart!

Monica

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trz5fcdVACw

I can’t tell you how supremely happy this video made me! THIS is why I teach people how to paint. THIS is why I introduce them to their Artist Within. It is SO MUCH BIGGER than the canvas or the journal page. It transforms! Watch this video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trz5fcdVACw

Here are some of the paintings in my studio right now.

This painting is in its beginning stages, but I am really into owls right now. I would LOVE to paint an entire owl series. I just think of the “wise old owl”. What insight does he have for me today? When you paint, you access your right brain voice–your Artist Within. It is directly connected to your subconscious & your intuition. With each brushstroke, it is like you are dialing its number. What does your right brain voice have to say to you? Paint to find out!

This is a detail of a commission I am creating for a family right now. I call these my “Family Portraits”. I just keep layering and layering the colors. There are no such things as mistakes. Anything can be fixed. Hmmmm, just like life! I am reading in Esther & Jerry Hicks book, The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent” right now about CONTRAST in our lives.

“You know that variety and contrast (when things are going GREAT or badly) will cause you to determine the specifics of your personal preferences, and you know that each of those preferences, big or small, will be answered the moment they are born.” -Esther & Abraham

In his book, CREATIVITY, Where the Divine and the Human Meet, Matthew Fox writes:

“We are creators at our very core. Only creating can make us happy, for in creating we tap into the deepest powers of self and universe and the Divine Self.”

You may be thinking, “I am not creative. I can’t paint.” I am here to tell you that painting and creating is a portal, a key, to an entirely new perspective, a new way of looking at your world, your life, and your role in the creation of your life–your reality! What do you want to CREATE? You paint to get Creatively Fit so that you are mentally, emotionally, spiritually strong enough, tapped into this creative source, to create the CHANGE you want to see in your world.

This is one of the Create Change Paint Kits you can purchase online at www.creativelyfit.com. Gift creativity and inspiration to someone this season–or yourself!

Deepak Chopra: A Life of Fulfillment

Mike Zimmerman November 2, 2009On his 14th birthday, Deepak Chopra’s father made a small, yet purposeful, gesture: He gave his son some novels by Sinclair Lewis and W. Somerset Maugham as a birthday gift.

Chopra’s father was a doctor in their native India, and he wanted his son to become a doctor, too. Chopra, however, dreamed of becoming a writer. He ignored biology and chemistry in school. “The people I most admired were journalists and other writers who were friends of the family,” he tells SUCCESS. “I had no interest in being a physician. But my father knew two things: that I had a fertile imagination and that those books were all about doctors and healers. At the age of 14, you’re very pliable, so after reading them, I went to my father and said I wanted to be a physician.”

Imagine the knowing smile on dad’s face. Chopra went on to America to become a respected endocrinologist, a medical school professor and, eventually, one of the foremost proponents of mind-body medicine, or the combination of Western medical knowledge with ancient Eastern philosophies. He is also the author of more than 50 books, including Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul, in bookstores now. And today, when you consider that our cultureâ??s standard definition of success is money, fame and influence, Deepak Chopra indeed has collected them all.

But that last sentence cheapens his accomplishments. He didn’t just become successful. He fulfilled his own definition of success. That’s a far richer accomplishment. The fact that he fulfilled the fame/fortune/ power success trifecta along the way (what he calls the “restricted” definition of success) is almost a byproduct. “I define success as the following,” Chopra says. “

No. 1, the progressive realization of worthy goals.

No. 2, the ability to love and have compassion.

No. 3, to be in touch with the creative source inside you. And

No. 4, to ultimately move from success to significance.”

That last part is crucial. It’s what creates people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett— people whose material success becomes great enough that they can concentrate on more humanistic and satisfying endeavors, or “significance,” as Chopra says. Through that work, they become greater than their success, and ultimately, when they’re alone, out of the spotlight, that’s what drives them. “Material success by itself without significance to the common good ultimately is not fulfilling,” says Chopra, and he speaks from experience.

In short, folks like Gates, Buffett and Deepak Chopra are not the type who think about making enough money to “retire by 40,” or some other target age. They don’t think about retiring at any age. They’re at war with dissatisfaction, which keeps them fine-tuning their A-game and their long-term goals. Money is simply the byproduct of that process.

Now, Chopra warns, that’s not to say that material success isn’t exciting. “Oh, in the beginning it’s very exciting,” he says with a chuckle. “Though, over many years of soul-searching and observing people, I have discovered to my own amazement, actually, that being extremely wealthy is meaningless.”

He cites a close friend of his, a multimillionaire, as proof. “This man’s level of happiness or misery depends every evening on an e-mail that informs him what his net worth is, based on what the stock market did that day. What kind of life is that? He’s a classic example of millions of dollars not making a person happy.”

“Material success by itself without significance to the common good ultimately is not fulfilling.”

So the secret is to forget all about money? Not at all. “Financial security is very important,” says Chopra, for the freedom it allows. However, the secret to real success goes deeper. Don’t pursue happiness, he says. Especially don’t pursue excitement, like the kind provided by making and spending big numbers. Pursue excellence. Pursue fulfillment. And Chopra has done that by fulfilling not society’s definition of success, but his own. It’s real. It’s meaningful. And the best part: It’s all his.

“True wealth comes from creativity,” he says. “Somehow, in modern society, wealth and money have become equated. Money is not wealth. Wealth in its true sense is success,” as Chopra defines it for himself.

How does creativity impact success? Creativity is all about its root word: Create something of value that wasn’t there before. Creativity is also freedom of thought directed toward your goals. Very few people embrace this, Chopra says. Oh, they talk a terrific game about life goals and potential business models and cool new ideas to increase income streams. But true creativity requires an open mind and curiosity, two phenomena that have become rare these days.

Why? Today, people don’t have open minds. Many of us are closed off to even the slightest deviation in mindset, even though most people would probably consider themselves “creative” and “curious.” They’re liars, says Chopra, and two factors—the financial crisis and Sept. 11—prove it.

“Curiosity and open-mindedness mean being aware of what’s going on in your world,” he says. “What has happened in the last few years with our economic disaster is the result of not having full awareness of what’s really happening around us. We were forced to do that after 9/11. Now we know more about the rest of the world, and we also see the context in which violence arises, in which power arises, in which ecological disasters occur.”

You might ask, What does that have to do with fulfilling my potential? Well, being locked up in your own mindset means being locked out of the world around you. “Creativity, imagination, insight, intuition, conscious choice-making, love, compassion, understanding— these are the qualities of a core consciousness that we come with into the world as children,” Chopra says. “But then we get programmed into the hypnosis of social conditioning, which says instant gratification is the way to be happy. That’s sold to us every single day.”

Chopra suggests several ways to break open more creativity and curiosity:

Adopt a growth mindset. Chopra says research over the past five years has shown that when adversity strikes, happier people tend to see creative opportunities, while unhappier people see, well, adversity. “It’s programmed through childhood through a phenomenon called mirror neurons,” he says. “If you saw people complaining all the time when you were a kid, that’s what you do. Your neurons mirror the behavior.” To change your mindset, step back and ask yourself, How can I turn this into an opportunity?

Engage the “unfriendlies.” This is not the same as “sleeping with the enemy.” It simply means make an effort to connect with those you have the least in common with, or even flat-out disagree with, and dissect their point of view until you understand its inherent value (it’s there, alright). This, Chopra says, is the hallmark of the creative, curious, open mind. “There has been a lot of literature on emotional intelligence, social intelligence, and how they’re all linked. We have a person who is now president who, on some level, knew all this. He bonded with America in a way that was amazing, despite the fact that his middle name is Hussein, and he transcends in many ways the definition of identity: Is he black? Is he white? And yet, he beat all the odds and became president.”

Read. Such a simple concept, but a hallmark of learning that’s, again, ignored by many (even with pride by some). But reading is what allowed Chopra to fulfill two life dreams. The boy who wanted to be a writer instead became a doctor… who has written more than 50 books. Indeed, you can fulfill multiple destinies. Chopra could not have done that without reading and more reading. To facilitate his addiction, he recently bought a Kindle. “I’m now traveling with the equivalent of 100 books, and I read them all simultaneously,” he says. “Books have always influenced my life. I get a strange sense of joy boarding a plane knowing I’m carrying 100 books.”

It’s become “one of America’s great reality shows.”

This, according to Peggy Drexler, author and assistant professor of psychology at Cornell University, is the life of Sarah Palin.

“Reality TV has a formula,” says Drexler. “One of the surprisingly numerous guides I found to selling a reality show said that the key is the right mix of four elements: talent, love, torment and sex. Others pointed out that the most important thing is letting people watch other people fail at something they desperately want to do.

“Studies show that American Idol loses a large segment of the audience after the ritual tortures of the early rounds. Another attraction, the guides point out, is spying on our neighbors without risking a restraining order. We don’t necessarily feel their pain. We just like to watch it.

“One of the best story lines is to yank people out of their normal lives, and throw them into unfamiliar situations — think wives swapping families. It’s even better when you do it to a C-list celebrity — think Paris Hilton shoveling manure.”

This “reality show” passed through my home town a few days ago. I wouldn’t even be mentioning it except for the video that showed up on YouTube of people waiting in line to get a glimpse of Palin outside a local Border’s Bookstore – twenty minutes away from my house.

That’s too close to home.

There was an interviewer on the scene asking people why they support Palin.

There’s SO MUCH more. Here’s the whole video.

Let’s face it: you can’t fix stupid.

Drexler describes her reality show comparison. “We take a C-list first-term governor from a state with a population the size of the city of Charlotte. She’ll have this hot-for-teacher thing going on; tight skirts, high heels, hair tied up in a twist. She’s a huntin’, fishin’, scrappy hockey mom, who tells it like it is.

“She’ll have a pregnant daughter. She’s hot. She’ll have a hunky husband who doesn’t say much. He’s hot. The pregnant daughter will have a boyfriend. He and the mother say they love each other, but as the story line progresses, they hate each other. He’s hot, too — kind of a young Donny Osmond, but buff. They’ll all live in the same house.

Later she writes, “The boyfriend will make the cover of America’s leading liberal magazine, space usually reserved for stars, models and politicians.

“Just when the audience thinks it’s over, she’ll write a book, which will sell out before it’s published.”

Towards the end of the article, Drexler writes, “She won’t rule out running for president, which gives us a bridge to a second season. She’ll hug Oprah.”

Drexler closes by saying, “It’s great TV.” This is where Ms. Drexler and I part ways in our thinking. I am not a fan of reality shows. I doubt that I’ve seen even one, beginning to end. My idea of great TV includes well-written and acted scripts, great character development, talented actors and actresses, great music, good lighting and sound – the works.

The “Sarah Palin Show” is the anathema to great TV.

Sincerely,

PS1 – Deepak Chopra wrote an article on Palin recently called “Fooling None of the People, All of the Time.” I think he’s right.

PS2 – Martha Stewart was asked about Palin in this brief interview.

This morning I read in Deepak Chopras book from 1994, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. I borrowed it in my local library the other day and randomly started to read the chapter on the law of less exertion. This law has three parts: acceptance, responsibility and freedom from defence. It is all about accepting this moment as the ultimate moment, taking your responsibility for the situation without blaming anyone, not even yourself, and feel free not to defend your opinion, your situation or whatever. Mr Chopra writes that most of us use most of our time and energy defending our opinions and our way to view things. This is a hotbed for conflicts.

In one way I agree with mr Chopra. Yes, there is always another way to look upon things, another corner from where you can describe and define the world. No one has the right to decide how others should think or act. But since this in fact is one of the joys and pleasures in being human – to recognize, define and express your opinion that mostly have roots in the values that you have come to hold high – I cannot fully understand why I should neglect this. I have a feeling that freedom from defending your opinions is a much deeper matter then I can see at a first glance. Perhaps it intervense somewhere at its roots with my highest values in life: love, peace and understanding.

I have such a long way to walk before I reach the real depths of my soul. But to start – here is a good place and now is a good time. Simply the best!

by Deepak Chopra
Last fall it seemed as if Sarah Palin would light a fuse and cause a social explosion. Behind her beauty-pageant smile lurked the shadow, the dark side of human nature. Her tactic of appealing to the worst impulses of the electorate had a long history in the Republican Party. Indeed, Palin inherited the selfish, mean-spirited values of another politician with a gleaming smile, Ronald Reagan.

When it first dawned in American politics, the shadow was shocking. Values were turned upside down. The AIDS crisis? Ignore it. They deserve what they got. The deficit? Doesn’t matter as long as the rich get what they want. Huge unemployment and falling incomes among the working class? Feed them crank social issues so they have someone to hate. Palin breathes this noxious atmosphere like the clear air of Alaska and thrives on it.

Now, however, Palin brings a smile. When she quit her job as governor, it was obvious that someone had whispered in her ear, “You’re fading. Soon you’ll be a nobody. Grab the money while you can.” And so she did, earning a hefty advance, much of which, fittingly, goes to paying off lawsuits related to her ethical violations while in office. The shadow that seemed so dangerous a year ago has been defanged, reduced to spiteful backbiting against the McCain campaign, the very people who gave Palin her spot in the limelight to begin with.

I hope the left will take a deep breath and stop treating Palin like a diabolical force. The American character has always had a large dose of orneriness in it, and the more ornery you were, the farther west you moved. Alaska has a reputation for being an icebox for malcontents. Palin came straight from the source, and countless Americans root for her. In hard times, being the bellyacher-in-chief is a valid role. Hence the rise of Glenn Beck.

But nobody is being fooled. A recent Gallup poll showed that 67% of responders don’t want Palin to run for president. Fear of Palin is ill-advised on two counts. First, fear is what the shadow wants. Without it, the shadow has no power. Second, the left needs to learn how to win graciously. The current upheaval in American society, which has been an enormous threat on many fronts, called forth a president and a constituency that knows how to handle crisis. The voices of sanity are prevailing. The solutions that have emerged on all fronts — economic, social, and international — represent the best in the American character.

But you can’t expect everyone to join the party. As long as we know that Palin is fooling nobody all of the time, the darker side can be tolerated. The shadow is always with us. Today it’s on a book tour.

I think it may have been during Christmas break of my third year in University; I’d read the title of this book in another book I was reading at the time and decided I needed to check this one out. I would go to Chapters in the Eaton’s Centre all by myself whenever I had the spare time… Finding myself a chair inside the store, I would read for hours on end. I always left the book there though — I don’t know why. I went back to it five to seven times but for some reason, I never bought it.

There isn’t much I remember about the instructional/self-help aspect of the book, nor do I remember the details which describe how Deepak Chopra managed to achieve this much success in his life and career. I tend to forget the specifics of the things I read and watch, but the main messages are always clear… The message in this book was vivid — still lurking in my mind undisturbed by the two years that have gone by.
“Listen to life’s clues.” It says, “Listen to life’s clues.”

In the Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire, Chopra argues this: (1) People don’t listen to life’s messages… How are we supposed to do what we’re supposed to be doing if we can’t even keep track of the significant events that happened yesterday? …Better yet, a week ago? (2) There is discontinuity between what people THINK they should be doing and what people are MEANT to be doing (3) Nothing in life is a coincidence.

I remember reading his story — Noting the simplicity behind the concepts brought fourth by this well-respected MD/author/lecturer and saying to myself, “It’s that easy eh?”

Indeed, there have been numerous incidents with regard to my career that coincide with the vision I have for myself in the near future… Coincidences that date back to elementary school when I started winning speech-writing competitions and was chosen as Valedictorian at my grade eight graduation… Coincidences in high school and university when different friends would randomly compliment me on my writing… A coincidence last Friday afternoon when I got an acceptance letter to do a Masters in Journalism in Australia – the same day I was supposed to fork-up first and last rent for the condo I’m supposed to be moving into on Dec 21, 2009… All examples of life’s co-occurring messages that say “Hey, maybe you should take this route…” And more recently, life has sent me another coincidence …

As you know a group of us from work met Cory Monteith a.k.a “Finn” at the Hazelton Hotel at 5:00 pm sharp on Monday night. We walked into the hotel, and were greeted by two blonde, well-dressed women (one was definitely his publicist; the other may have been a Representative from Global TV). Anyway, our coats were taken away, and we were led into a dim-lit foyer that was as small as my room. It was surprising to see that we were the only ones there. My first impression of this meeting was that it would take place in a large room full of journalists, media and others competing for time with “Finn”. In fact, it was the total opposite. There were ten CDs of the Glee soundtrack lined up for each of us and ready to be signed. As we trailed in, the servers were prompt in asking our choice of red or white wine. Buttered lobster-tail, gourmet cheese-burger and lamb pita hors d’oeuvres would be coming along shortly. His publicist said they’d have to wait a few minutes before he came downstairs so we tried to remain delicate with the food and wine. But as we waited for him to walk in, there remained an anxious excitement in the air… What would we do when he arrived? …What would we say?

He walked in smiling… In a black button-up, jeans, and looking dashing with his strategically-jelled half-curly, half-tousled hair, he smirked and said, “Hey! Well… I guess you guys won?!” Apparently we’d won some competition between the media agencies in Toronto –- the meeting with Cory was an incentive that my colleague received through her client, Old Navy. I don’t really know how the whole thing came about… All I knew is that I was there, in front of Cory Monteith, Star of Glee. We were all starting to sweat PROFUSELY. “HIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” We echoed, like a choir — We were in complete disarray.

It took about ten minutes for him to sign each of our CDs while making one-on-one small-talk. After this, we were ready for the real deal: A group Q&A session. By this time I had already bonded with him by making known to the whole room my love for Vancouver — A city he’s lived in and adores. I was surprised to hear and see that the girls who are the loudest and most outgoing at work (and yes, there are louder and more outgoing women than me), seemed to be completely silent. They must be awe-struck, I thought. Myself on the other hand? — I definitely wasn’t going to let their ‘I’m-shy-syndrome’ stop me…

We gathered in a circle around him. “So what was your favourite episode?” He asked us ten, baffled and love-sick girls.

“Definitely the Mashup.” I replied. The girls around me agreed cheerfully. “What was YOUR favourite episode?” I tried to ask calmly.

“My favourite?… Hmm, You know the one when Mr. Schu and Sue Sylvester are fighting… Throwdown? Yea… That one.”

“How is it working with Jane Lynch?” Jenna (one of my co-workers) asked. “She’s awesome…”

“Yea, she’s really great… I’m really lucky to be working with such talented people.” (A Cliché answer, but we didn’t care.)

“So are there any romantic relationships flourishing between cast members?” I popped-in again, ever-so-tactlessly.

“AAAHAHAHAH” Our small crowd laughed and the Global TV rep interrupted “Wait, are you from US Magazine?”

He smiled, “…What was your question again? — Oh are there any romantic relationships FLOURISHING… between cast members? — Me and Lea? No.”

“She’s a really good singer.” I added in for the last time…

“Yea, she really is.”

I think there was one more question asked. “Do you have a girlfriend?” One of the girls chirped. He didn’t answer, and he avoided the situation swiftly as his publicist came to his rescue by speaking up, “Let’s get some group pictures then?”

By the time we knew it he was saying “Ok well… Thank You…” He began shaking each of our hands in his sweet demeanor. He’d only finished his goodbyes with of the two girls before it was my turn and I was ready… “Can I have hug instead?” I asked. “Sure, of course.” He smiled graciously (Oh God, I died). The remaining seven girls who were greeted ‘goodbye’ received a hug too.

That was the end of it. It was only 5:45 — Less than forty minutes spent with Cory, and we were all walking on cloud nine. As we began our withdrawal from his extreme masculinity, endearing smile, and overall ruthless charm, we stood like baffled zombies waiting for our coats. My co-worker Andrea came up to me (I’ve only known her for three weeks, as she started working with Starcom some time after I did. We often exchange casual stories about daily-life because I see her every day, but the details of each others interests and personal life have been kept to a minimum.) “Christina…” She leaned over to me, “…Just letting you know, that if this industry doesn’t work out for you… You should be a Journalist. You could so do it. I think it would work out for you.”

I really didn’t know what to say… I’d never told Andrea — A colleague, that I’d applied to grad school and got in. Doing so would be a risky career move on my part. I never told her that it’s been a developing dream to write a book; to research, to interview, to travel, to talk, to write and tell stories for a living. I didn’t know what to say… I smiled at her, and etched her comment in heart. Another one of life’s messages maybe? Another coincidence? …Maybe not.
