Perkembangan penduduk yang pesat menyebabkan meningkatnya permintaan akan sarana jalan yang mampu menahan beban lalu lintas rendah sampai sedang tetapi mempunyai tingkat keamanan dan kenyamanan tinggi. Penggunaan aditif gilsonite pada campuran Hot Rolled Sheet merupakan salah satu alternatif untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti pengaruh penggunaan aditif gilsonite terhadap stabilitas Marshall, rongga udara, Marshall Quotient, indeks perendaman, stabilitas dinamis, dan deformasi dari campuran Hot Rolled Sheet. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Perkerasan dan Bahan Jalan Universitas Kristen Petra Surabaya untuk pengujian Marshall dan Pusat Litbang Jalan Bandung untuk pengujian Wheel Tracking. Untuk pengujian Marshall, persentase gilsonite yang digunakan 4%, 6%, 8%, 10% dan 12% dari berat aspal optimum campuran. Pengujian Wheel Tracking dilakukan untuk campuran Hot Rolled Sheet dengan kadar aspal optimum dan kadar gilsonite optimum yang diperoleh dari pengujian Marshall. Dari pengujian Marshall diperoleh kadar gilsonite optimum pada Hot Rolled Sheet sebesar 7.93 % dari berat aspal optimum campuran. Hasil dari pengujian Wheel Tracking menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan gilsonite pada Hot Rolled Sheet meningkatkan stabilitas dinamis dan memperkecil deformasi.

Suatu elemen struktur akan mengalami deformasi akibat adanya pembebanan. Deformasi itu dapat berupa lentur, tarik, tekan, torsi atau geser. Pada konstruksi sebenarnya, deformasi tidak dapat terlihat dengan jelas karena terlalu kecil. Kenyataan ini menyebabkan kesulitan untuk memahami perilaku elemen struktur. Alat bantu visual ini dibuat dengan tujuan untuk memberikan gambaran yang lebih jelas mengenai deformasi. Dengan membuat deformasi menggunakan skala yang jauh lebih besar dari kenyataanya, diharapkan pengguna alat bantu visual ini dapat lebih memahami perilaku elemen struktur yang mengalami deformasi akibat pembebanan.

Bien que j’estime que plusieurs détendeurs du Nobel de la paix ne méritent aucunement ce prix parce qu’ils l’ont reçu alors que leurs mains étaient couvertes de sang, et ce y compris des personnes figurant dans la vidéo ci-dessus, que je n’apprécie pas les œuvres de nombreux lauréats du Nobel de littérature et que je ne crois pas qu’une civilisation est pas meilleure qu’une autre parce qu’elle a obtenu un plus grand nombre de ces prix, je dois avouer que cette vidéo a le mérite de lister les personnalités juives récompensées par les différents types de Nobel.

Comment est-il possible qu’une civilisation comptant environ 14 millions d’individus (17 millions avant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale) puisse détenir un si grand nombre de prix Nobel ? Loin de moi l’idée d’y voir une quelconque supériorité intellectuelle des juifs sur les autres peuples mais plutôt une “supériorité” de l’intérêt pour les choses intellectuelles du judaïsme par rapport aux autres religions.

Bien sûr, il y en aura toujours pour clamer que si autant de prix Nobel ont été remportés par des juifs, c’est à cause du célèbre et incontournable “lobby juif”. Finalement, c’est actuellement la réponse à tout dès que des juifs se démarquent dans quelque domaine que ce soit. Certains vont même plus loin que ça. Comme nous le savons tous, chaque année, les lauréats du prix Nobel se partagent la coquette somme de 10 millions de couronnes suédoises. Bien qu’ils en disposent librement, cet argent est réinvesti pour poursuivre les recherches et travaux. Néanmoins, les “bien-pensants” antisionistes (pour ne pas dire antisémites) restent persuadés que cette coquette somme, une fois remise entre des mains juives, est directement reversée à Tsahal pour acheter de nouvelles armes dans le but de poursuivre le “génocide” de Gaza. La jalousie pousse à dire des choses incroyables.

La médecine peut être vue comme une sorte de tradition juive étant donné qu’au Moyen Âge, l’on imaginait que les juifs avaient un quelconque don pour la médecine. C’est pourquoi seules les facultés de médecine leur étaient accessibles. Pourtant, ce qui constitue le génie du judaïsme, c’est que, lorsque le Temple a été détruit, les rabbins se sont demandé ce qu’ils pouvaient encore sauver. Comme le sacrifice ne pouvait plus être pratiqué, l’étude de la Torah a remplacé l’acte sacrificiel. Globalement, la société juive s’adonne à l’étude de manière culturelle. L’étude est célébrée  comme un acte religieux en soi élevé au rang d’acte sacré. Suite à la Révolution française, l’accès aux universités a permis aux juifs de se lancer, avec la même dévotion, dans les études profanes.

Massada. Forteresse, comme son nom l’indique, bâtie par les premiers princes hasmonéens qui surplombe le désert de Judée, à proximité de la mer Morte.  Par la suite, Hérode le Grand y réalisa des travaux d’aménagement afin qu’elle puisse servir de refuge en cas d’invasion égyptienne ou de révolte interne. L’UNESCO l’inscrivit au patrimoine mondial en 2001 selon trois critères :

- Massada est un symbole exceptionnel de l’ancien royaume juif d’Israël, de sa destruction violente à la fin du Ier siècle de notre ère, et de la Diaspora qui s’ensuivit ;

- Le palais d’Hérode le Grand à Massada est un exemple remarquable des villas luxueuses du début de l’empire romain, alors que le camp et les fortifications autour du monument constituent les travaux de siège romains les plus beaux et les plus complets qui subsistent à ce jour.

- Les événements tragiques qui survinrent pendant les derniers jours des réfugiés juifs occupant la forteresse et le palais de Massada en font un symbole de l’identité culturelle juive mais aussi, plus universellement, du perpétuel combat humain entre oppression et liberté.

Dès la première année de la Grande Révolte, plus communément appelée Première Guerre judéo-romaine, des rebelles juifs fanatiques, les Sicaires, prirent Massada à la garnison romaine qui y était stationnée. L’année suivante, des expulsés, accompagnés de leur famille, de Jérusalem, tombée aux mains des Romains, s’y installèrent également. Massada devint pour trois ans une base de défense contre les envahisseurs latins. Lorsque le général Lucius Flavius Silva, accompagné de ses troupes, se rend à Massada pour réduire à néant les rebelles qui l’occupent, il se heurte à la situation géographique chaotique de la forteresse qui le contrait à élever une rampe d’accès pour y pénétrer, ce qui prendra de longs mois. Mais lorsque les Romains entrèrent, ce sont des cadavres qu’ils découvrirent parmi les restes des bâtiments qui avaient été incendiés.

Flavius Josèphe est la seule source relative à ces événements tragiques (La guerre des juifs, Livre VII, Chapitre IX).

Il voulait continuer ses exhortations quand tous l’interrompirent et, pleins d’une irrésistible ardeur, s’empressèrent pour accomplir l’acte qu’il leur conseillait. Agités comme d’un transport divin, ils s’éloignaient, impatients de se devancer les uns les autres, jugeant que c’était une preuve éclatante de courage et de sagesse de ne pas se laisser voir parmi les derniers. Tant était fort l’amour de leurs femmes, de leurs enfants et de leur propre mort qui les inspirait ! Quand ils arrivèrent à l’acte suprême, ils n’eurent pas. comme on l’eût cru, de défaillances ; ils gardèrent leur résolution aussi fermement tendue qu’à l’instant où ils entendirent le discours d’Éléazar ; chez tous subsistaient des sentiments émus et affectueux, mais la raison l’emportait, parce qu’elle leur paraissait avoir pris le parti le plus sage pour les êtres qui leur étaient les plus chers. Ensemble, ils embrassèrent, étreignirent leurs femmes, serrèrent dans leurs bras leurs enfants, s’attachant avec des larmes à ces derniers baisers ; ensemble, comme si des bras étrangers les eussent assistés dans cette œuvre, ils exécutèrent leurs résolution, et la pensée des maux que ces malheureux devaient souffrir, s’ils tombaient aux mains des ennemis, était pour les meurtriers, dans cette nécessité de donner la mort, une consolation. Enfin, nul ne se trouva inférieur à un si grand dessein; tous percèrent les êtres les plus chéris. Malheureuses victimes du sort, pour qui le meurtre de leurs femmes et de leurs enfants, exécuté de leur main, paraissait le plus léger de leurs maux ! Aussi, ne pouvant plus supporter l’angoisse dont ces actes une fois accomplis les accablait, et croyant que ce serait faire injure aux victimes de leur survivre même un court instant ils en tassèrent promptement au même endroit tous leurs biens et y mirent le feu ; puis ils tirèrent au sort dix d’entre eux pour être les meurtriers de tous ; chacun s’étendit auprès de sa femme et de ses enfants qui gisaient à terre, les entourant de ses bras, et tous offrirent leur gorge toute prête à ceux qui accomplissaient ce sinistre office. Quand ceux-ci eurent tué sans faiblesse tous les autres, ils s’appliquèrent les uns aux autres la même loi du sort : l’un d’eux, ainsi désigné, devait tuer ses neuf compagnons et se tuer lui-même après tous ; de cette manière, ils étaient assurés qu’il y aurait égalité pour tous dans la façon de porter le coup et de le recevoir. Enfin, les neuf Juifs souffrirent la mort et le dernier survivant, après avoir contemplé autour de lui la multitude des cadavres étendus, craignant qu’au milieu de ce vaste carnage il ne restât quelqu’un pour réclamer le secours de sa main et ayant reconnu que tous avaient péri, mit le feu au palais, s’enfonça d’un bras vigoureux son épée tout entière dans le corps, et tomba près de ceux de sa famille. Ils étaient morts dans la pensée de n’avoir laissé aucun être vivant au pouvoir des Romains ; cependant une vieille femme et une parente d’Éléazar, remarquable entre toutes par son intelligence et son savoir, avait échappé aux regards et s’étaient cachées avec cinq enfants dans les souterrains qui, à travers le sol, apportaient l’eau à la ville, pendant que les autres habitants étaient absorbés par le massacre. Le nombre des morts s’élevait à neuf cent-soixante, en comptant les femmes et les enfants. Ce désastre arriva le 15 du mois de Xanthicos.

Cependant les Romains, qui s’attendaient encore à combattre, équipés dès l’aurore, rejoignirent par des ponts volants les terrassements aux abords de la place et commencèrent l’assaut. Comme ils n’apercevaient aucun ennemi et voyaient de toutes parts une affreuse solitude, et à l’intérieur, dans un profond silence, l’incendie. ils se demandaient avec inquiétude ce qui s’était passé. Enfin, quand ils furent arrivés à portée de trait, ils poussèrent de grands cris pour attirer quelqu’un des défenseurs. Les pauvres femmes entendirent cette clameur ; elles sortirent des souterrains et racontèrent aux Romains ce qui était arrivé ; l’une d’elles rapporta exactement le discours d’Éléazar et les circonstances de la tuerie. Les Romains ne crurent pas d’abord à ce récit, car la grandeur d’un pareil acte les laissait incrédules ; ils entreprirent d’éteindre le feu et bientôt, se frayant une route dans l’incendie, ils arrivèrent à l’intérieur du palais. Alors, voyant cette multitude de cadavres, ils ne se réjouirent pas comme en présence d’ennemis morts, mais admirèrent la noblesse de cette résolution et ce mépris de la vie, attesté par tant d’hommes qui avaient agi avec constance jusqu’au bout.

Vu comme cela, les événements tragiques de Massada sont hautement héroïques et l’on comprend mieux le troisième critère de choix de l’UNESCO pour son classement. Tous ces hommes, ces femmes et ces enfants, unis par un puissant sentiment patriotique, qui n’hésitent pas un instant à mourir pieux plutôt que de vivre romanisés ! Or, la réalité est toute autre car ce qui s’est vraiment passé à Massada, ce n’est pas un suicide collectif mais une série de meurtres.

Flavius Josèphe lui-même est perplexe car le judaïsme condamne catégoriquement le suicide. Certes, de nombreux habitants de Massada se donnèrent la mort, en particulier les Sicaires, pour échapper aux Romains. Mais une partie des habitants n’a sûrement pas choisi de mourir plutôt que de vivre sous domination romaine. Ceux-là ont été tués par un groupe d’hommes désignés à cette tâche. Et soudain, l’héroïque histoire des réfugiés de Massada devient immonde…

Pourtant, aujourd’hui encore, les hommes de Tsahal prêtent serment ainsi  : Massada ne tombera pas une nouvelle fois. L’histoire de Massada, relativisée de son massacre, est importante pour le gouvernement israélien car elle est le récit populaire par excellence de l’héroïsme juif face à l’oppression.

Today, i will be talking about the topic, “dogs”, “breeding” and “evil”

I guess I’ve just summed it up. Yes, what i am trying to say is that, the controlled breeding of a dog, purely for improving its “deformation” is utterly and despicably inhumane! If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, the let me show you some examples.

As you can see, there are some obvious differences in the two pictures.
1. The nose of the bulldog has been severely deformed.
2. The size of the bulldog (although not shown in the pictures) has greatly diminished compared to its older relative.
3. There is a noticeably less amount of flabby skin on its face and back.

Over the many years of controlled breeding, we have created numerous abnormalities in almost every of our dog species. So from these features of the bulldog, let me…enlighten you on the disadvantages and advantages.

Disadvantages:
- The deformation of the face is due to the shrinking of the dog’s skull, the nose of the dog’s skull has shrunk due to the years of controlled breeding. This causes an irregular shape in the dog’s nose which in turn creates many respiratory infections, diseases, problems and physical limitations. Every bulldog that is born, develops respiratory diseases and problems!
- The diminished size of the bulldog compared to its older relative is very, very bad. why? well, its short legs means that it has to take more steps to walk an amount of distance. e.g. if i take one step, the bulldog must take four. This including the dog’s respiratory limitations equals an unhealthy and problematic dog that would cost its owner many tens of thousands of dollars to correct.

Advantages:
- The more deformed the dog, the better you will rank in a dog show.
- The more deformed the dog’s face, the more it makes us say “Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww… how CUTE!!!!!!!!!”

Now, I don’t need to tell you, for you to understand how badly we are treating dogs (or any other species might i note). So…why would we be doing this? Is it because we did not know that it was bad? Is it because we like deforming dogs, merely for entertainment? OR, Is it because of a trophy and $10,000 reward money?

I know it is the 3rd answer. Breeders, from since the early 1800s, have intended on deforming their dog, to have the more “extreme” feature compared to any other dog of its species. They did this because of the dog shows and where might i say, did these dog shows originate from? England of course….

In my opinion, our lust for better complexion in one’s face, our desire to increase one’s feature even to the point of being a “freak” and our obvious expectation to create predicaments points to none other than, our greed. Now, i don’t mean all of us do this, but there are those who always ruin this for others. I myself have a dog, and this is the reason why i am so..passionate to such a topic. My dog is a Labrador a guess what? It has already been deformed. But this deformation occurred in the 1800s and as generations have passed, every Labrador has inherited this problem. You may be wondering, What is the deformation? every, Labrador i know is normal as far as i can see. Well, let me tell you this, its deformation does not lie on any visual features, this deformation is actually down to its bone. So, in fact, every Labrador will encounter arthritis sometime in its life.

Other dogs with deformations include, Chihuahuas (it used to be a much bigger dog with a bigger jaw), “Wiener dogs” (it used to be taller and its body was obviously shorter), beagles were taller, almost as tall as a Labrador. So in conclusion, i say that breeders who breed dogs purely for the entertainment of others and the reward for a trophy is what i label as evil and inhumane.

Hello friends! I’m your Vity-viti-viggie-van Girl!

…Well, not really. But I did watch I Love Lucy all the time when I was little and I am a source for cool volcanic news and thoughts. This post is a random assortment of some of my thoughts and findings over the past week or so. And for all you Wikipedia fans out there, I’ve included some wiki links.

First up, though, is the volcano. Kilauea has been pretty quiet recently. The summit eruption continues with a lazy and generally weaker plume degassing from the vent in Halema`uma`u crater. The ocean entry at Waikupanaha (the nearer plume in the photo) is generating a pretty robust plume where the lava hits the water. The surface flows have been a bit lacking in the past week or so, but we hope they’ll start up with fervor again soon. For daily updates, check out the Kilauea Status page on HVO’s site and the webcams.

Interestingly, though, there have been five DI events in the past seven days. DI events are deflation-inflation events at the Kilauea summit. These are seen in data from tiltmeters stationed around the summit and all over the volcano. Tiltmeters measure changes of the ground surface using angles, or changes in the slope of the ground. So if the ground surface is inflating (due to magma emplacement, for example), tilt will increase and if the surface is deflating (due to subsidence for some reason, for example), tilt will decrease. Over the past year and a half or so, Kilauea has been experience deflation-inflation, or DI, events that involve deflation of the summit and subsequently Pu`u `O`o a couple of hours following, that last from part of a day to a couple of days. This past week has been pretty active (Fig. 1).

Second on the list, I have found a couple of interesting sites. One is an article from last year that was printed out and hanging in my office (the volunteer office at HVO). It’s about a dude who surfed on the waves about 20 feet from where the lava enters the ocean. Crazy! Due to the boiling water all around, the article says that the wax came right off of his surfboard and the skin on his lower legs peeled off. If the pictures load for you, they are pretty cool though.

The other thing is a website for a project called the Gravestone Project. It has nothing to do with volcanoes, but is geologically interesting because it is a project whose goal is to get an idea of the weathering rates around the world by mapping and tracking the weathering of marble gravestones. I received this in a Geological Society of America (GSA) newsletter. Sounded really cool, so I thought I’d share.

The third and final interesting tidbit of this post is about food. I recently tried a Hawaiian classic: the Loco Moco. According to another volunteer, TH, the Loco Moco was invented at some diner in Hilo, HI, but can now be found everywhere I’ve gone. It consists of rice, a hamburger patty, eggs cooked as you like, and gravy (sometimes the hamburger patty will be substituted for another type of meat; Fig. 2). I was skeptical, but I decided to go for it at Ken’s House of Pancakes on Tuesday. It was delicious. And speaking of Ken’s, I’m pretty sure it is THE place to go in Hilo. They have the biggest menu I’ve ever seen and all of the food is good. Go there if you ever come to Hilo.

Also at 10-Pin Grill in the bowling alley of Kilauea Military Camp (or KMC), they have a contest: eat basically 6 Loco Mocos in 30 minutes and your meal is free and you get put up on the Wall of Fame. Fail, and you will be added to the Wall of Shame and have to pay for the food. Six Loco Mocos is something like 10 scoops of rice, 6 hamburger patties, and 6 eggs all drenched in gravy. In 30 minutes. There was one person to have completed this and many more that failed.

Good morning from Volcano, HI!

I realize that I haven’t updated in a while, but I have a post in the works.  We are in the last week of our class, so we all have an exam and presentations coming up.  Not to mention enjoying the last bit of Hawai’i (for some) and the last bit of company.

Yesterday was my group’s first day of deformation.  We started learning about the tools used to monitor and measure the changes in ground deformation due to volcanic processes, like subsurface magma movement.  We went out into the field to do a leveling exercise, which measures vertical displacements between a network of points very accurately, if you’re good.  Then we split up into pairs to set up static GPS systems, which we will collect and move to a different spot today.  We also had a birthday in our group yesterday, so a couple people made a cute cake, complete with a cupcake vent, marshmallow plume, a’a frosting, and cupcake-piece tumuli.  And a pali.  It was very nice…and delicious since it was a FunFetti cake.

A lovely, low rainbow we saw while fiddling with the static GPS near Hilina Pali Road, to the south of the caldera.

It was raining practically everywhere surrounding our field site, but we only got a nice, light mist.  Thus the rainbow!

A cavus deformity of the foot is easily recognizable, but appropriate neurologic assessment can help to determine the etiology.

Cavovarus, the most frequent type of cavus foot, presents with

·        an elevated medial longitudinal arch,

·        first ray plantarflexion, and,

·        if rigid, a fixed heel varus.

The cavovarus foot deformity causes an increase in anteromedial ankle joint pressure which may lead to anteromedial arthrosis in the long term, even in the absence of lateral hindfoot instability.

Common causes include

·        progressive motor sensory conditions, typically Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and

·        NON progressive conditions such as cerebral palsy and poliomyelitis.

A calcaneocavus foot may be seen in

·        poliomyelitis,

·        spinal dysraphism, and

·        peripheral neuropathy.

Initially, the cavus deformity is flexible, but if left untreated, it becomes a fixed bony deformity.

Physical examination should include the cavovarus block test, which assesses flexibility of the hindfoot deformity and can direct surgical treatment.

·        Standing radiographs of the feet and

·        spine, magnetic resonance imaging, and

·        electrodiagnostic studies

may be useful.

Management goals are to obtain a

1.      plantigrade,

2.      mobile,

3.      pain-free,

4.      stable,

5.      motor-balanced

foot.

Post-operative dynamic measurement of plantar peak pressures and contact area offers limited information about functional and anatomical improvement after surgery.

The heel pressures displays an inverse relationship to ankle power generation.

The amount of correction achieved radiographically does not correlate with pedobarographic measurements.

The increased heel pressure is not addressed by treatment.

Normalization of pressure patterns should be the goal in treating children with symptomatic cavovarus feet.

Although the foot deformity may be completely corrected in neuromuscular disorders, pressure distribution is not normalized, and therefore, symptoms may persist.

Surgical options include

1. soft-tissue and plantar fascia releases for a flexible deformity,

2.      osteotomy (plantar opening wedge, cuneiform bones, Dwyer) for a fixed deformity, and

3.      tendon transfers (modified Jones procedure) to restore muscle balance.

Being part of a support group, I check daily posts written by fellow RA sufferers. In a recent post called “MTX questions” a person asked what others do in regards to taking their MTX, (Methotrexate). Do they take it Friday and feel sick on Saturday or do they take it Sunday and feel horrible for Monday? This is a common question and it gets addressed often. For those of you that don’t know, Methotrexate is a chemotherapy drug, also known as a DMARD and it works by suppressing the immune system. For those of us with an autoimmune disease, the common thought is that an autoimmune disease means an overactive immune system. I have found information that states autoimmune diseases are simply the body confusing healthy tissue for non-healthy tissue, meaning it’s not a system that’s overactive as so much it is an immune system that isn’t working correctly. Suppressing the immune system does not make it work correctly. Instead, it keeps the body from destroying itself, kind of. Methotrexate may cause damage to the liver, intestines and sometimes the lungs, just to name a few. Although it doesn’t seem like methotrexate is a good option, doctors don’t present many other options when you get diagnosed with RA. And you can’t go on living with uncontrollable inflammation. Inflammation in itself, if left uncontrolled can cause cancer, intestinal damage, organ damage, other diseases and with RA will most likely cause joint erosion and deformation. So although taking a toxic drug like methotrexate seems out of the question, not taking it is just as scary.

It’s no wonder I kept searching for alternative options. I was tired of dreading my weekends. On Monday and Tuesday I still felt like I was a little bit “sick” from the methotrexate. If you haven’t taken this drug and it hits you hard like it did with me, this is what I experienced: The next morning after taking methotrexate I would feel more swollen, more painful and more stiff. My kidney area always felt like it had been kicked in the night and this would last until later in the evening. I would feel extremely fatigued and as if I had slept on rocks. Imagine you haven’t slept in 2 days. That’s how fatigued I felt. Or imagine what the flue feels like. That’s exactly how it was, resting both Saturday and Sunday so I could prepare for the following work week. Even running a low grade temperature wasn’t out of the question, of course this could have just been my RA at work. My hair would always fall out in mass amounts on Saturday and it would lessen as time went by. My eyes would be somewhat bloodshot and I would generally feel less hungry than normal for a few days. I wouldn’t exercise over the weekends. Instead, I would try and “recover” until the week started again and try to summon up energy to get myself to the gym after a few days of shaking off the methotrexate side effects. Heck, I was one of the lucky ones that didn’t throw up after taking methotrexate, a common side effect. As time went on having Rheumatoid Arthritis, I found myself becoming weaker and weaker. Workouts were less effective. My resistance level became less and less on the eliptical machine. I no longer did weights because the swelling of my wrists and fingers made it impossible. I continued to at least work hard at strengthening my knee joints. I figured that was the most important-being able to walk, so I made it my top priority.

When I finally freed myself of the methotrexate hangover, I felt like I was on the right path. And speaking of hangover, being on methotrexate meant you couldn’t drink a drop of alcohol because the drug itself does a # all on it’s own to your liver. Being off the drug meant I could drink again. Though I know alcohol is a poison, I tested my theory out on my own liver….just how bad can it be compared to methotexate? I was getting monthly blood tests because doctors have to keep track of how your liver is functioning and I would closely monitor my tests. At one point in time, just 10mg of methotrexate (a very small dose) elevated my liver enzymes. Yet when I went off this drug, one weekend I purged on alcohol. I came in for my test and didn’t tell them I was off of methotrexate. When the results came in, my liver was functioning better than it ever had while I was on methotrexate. Go figure!!

So truly, the reality is methotrexate is hard on your body. For those of you that take it, I feel for you. If your side effects are bad, giving up your weekends to a drug is a horrible thing to experience. I wish you all the best of luck in your journey with an autoimmune disease, or if you know someone who has an autoimmune disease please be compassionate as I’m sure they could use the support.

Ce midi, j’ai été manger dans un fast-food dont je tairai le nom représenté par une fillette à couettes rousses.  A la caisse se trouvait un employé avec une déformation au visage un peu plutôt méga apparente.  C’est à ce moment que j’ai paniqué!  Pas à cause du faciès inhabituel du préposé, mais bien à cause de mon hésitation face à comment réagir.  Car en effet, avez-vous remarqué qu’il existe deux phrases entendues à chaque fois que quelqu’un possédant un handicap est interviewé?

1- Quand je marche dans la rue, les gens évitent mon regard sans cesse et tournent la tête.

ou

2- Quand je marche dans la rue, les gens me fixent sans cesse et m’observent constamment.
