I did a “look and feel” demo to show my company’s app to someone. I think I ended up confusing them.

It would have been better if I went through a single scenario to show what made our product special.

Primero llegaron a Japón, más tarde a Europa y finalmente a América.

Así es, desde ahora en adelante podremos disfrutar de las demos de Wii Ware en nuestro continente, lo malo…es que solo estaran disponibles por un tiempo limitado, lo que demuestra los problemas en la infraestructura en Wii; aunque de todas maneras podemos tener las demos guardadas en Wii durante el tiempo que queramos, y se agregaran nuevas cada cierto tiempo, eso si y como comentaba, las anteriores demos desapareceran.

Buena iniciativa por parte de Nintendo, es algo que ya se merecia venir, sin más los dejo con la lista de demos por continentes.

Why do people eat mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving Day but not mashed paper towels? That’s not such an odd question from a chemistry standpoint because potato and paper are almost as similar as two peas in a pod in terms of the carbohydrates they contain.

For the answer to that and other topics that could spark dinnertime conversation on Thursday, the American Chemical Society (ACS) is offering an addition to the holiday menu: A special video on the chemistry of Thanksgiving.

The program features Diane Bunce, Ph.D., recipient of the ACS Helen Free Award for Public Outreach, who discussed the topic in a demonstration at The Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. Bunce is a professor of chemistry at CUA and associate editor for Chemical Education research for ACS’ Journal of Chemical Education.

The video, produced by the ACS Office of Public Affairs, focuses on traditional Thanksgiving foods, including topics such as:
• How does the pop-up timer in a turkey work?
• Why do muffins rise, even when made without yeast?
• Which antacids neutralize the most stomach acid?

Black acrylic on hot press (smooth finish) watercolor paper or bristol pad makes an excellent drawing medium. I like to add a bit of white charcoal at the end to draw out highlights and to create reflective effects. Drawing with a brush (I used a 1/4″ angle brush on these) enables you to stay loose and capture a lot of gesture. I work transparently blocking in large shapes and moving through the value range. Typically, I can acheive a range of 4 to 5 values including the white of the paper. I like doing these both as studies and as finished drawings in and of themselves. They are highly valuable when working on the images in color, and make a nice presentation when matted and framed.

My tutorial site www.jasonmorgan.co.uk has been online for over 10 years now! and in that time I’ve displayed most of the paintings I’ve completed in a step by step format, in a section called – “on my easel”.

Well as new paintings are started I display them in place of the previously completed one, so the “on my easel” page is updated frequently. But with that comes a bit of a problem, all my old step by steps are lost forever!

Soooo…. I got to thinking that it might be of real use for artists hoping to start, or improve their wildlife art, if I gathered ALL the old demos and the brand new ones too (and believe me there are LOTS!) and put them all on an ebook, so they could be easily downloaded and then read on the computer.

What better way to learn the way I tackle each painting, than to actually see the step by steps???

So that is what I am working on at the moment, compiling all my old and also brand new painting photographs, and updating the original text, plus adding lots of new thoughts and pointers - I think it’s going to help a lot of would be wildlife and general artists to understand the thought and practical processes involved in my paintings.

Poi arrivarono i successivi, con lo stato (o le multinazionali) che si accaparrano il monopolio delle materie prime, delle energie, e gradualmente anche dei media e pian piano di tutto quello che appartiene al nostro quotidiano (abbiamo visto ad esempio come agisca in questo verso l’uso del satellitare per trovare le strade e altre cose del genere)

Am Sonnabend dem 21.11.09 war es wieder soweit und die jährliche Silvio Meier Demo stand an. Die Demo stand unter dem Motto: gegen Nazis, gegen Gentrifizierung, gegen Polizeigewalt und gegen mediale Hetze. Wir gingen um 15.30 Uhr zur U-Bahn Samariterstraße an der die Demo beginnen sollte. Auf dem Weg dorthin sah man schon gleich das ganze Aufgebot der Berliner Polizei. Eine Bullenwanne nach der anderen parkte am Straßenrand. An der U-Bahn Station angekommen viel mir auf das die Polizei versuchte so ziemlich jeden Teilnehmer zu durchsuchen. Was das bringen sollte blieb mir doch ein wenig schleierhaft, denn der “Kontrollring” um die Demonstranten war sehr klein und es waren immer wieder große Lücken zu sehen. Ich stempelte diese Aktion unter reiner Schikane ab. Zu Beginn der Demo zogen die Polizei dann ganz ab und niemand wurde abgehalten seine Glasflaschen mitzunehmen. Es wirkte alles ein wenig unkoordiniert. Der Zug setzte sich in die Mainzerstr. in Gang und es ging über die Scharnweberstr. vorbei an der Kneipe “Amnesie”, die als eine Kneipe mit rechter Kundschaft bekannt sein soll. Diese Informationen bekam man von der Sprecherin aus dem Lautsprecherwagen. Von der Scharnweberstr. ging es dann in die Jessnerstr. und von dort wieder auf die Frankfurter Allee. An der Ecke Jessnerstr. Frankfurter Allee wurde vor der Großraumdisko “Jeton ” eine Kundgebung abgehalten. Diese Disko in Friedrichshain ist bekannt dafür das sich dort gerne Nazis und rechte Hooligans treffen und von dort aus Gewalttaten gegenüber Linken und Ausländer und Anderen durchführen. Aus der Disko heraus wurden der Demonstrationszug fotografiert. Weiter ging es zur Ecke Frankfurter Allee und Voigtstr. in der der Zug dann abgebogen ist. Wir mussten hier leider den Demozug verlassen, da mein Kollege einen kaputten Fuß hat und er Schmerzen hatte. Wir gingen zurück zum Ausgangspunkt und setzten uns ein wenig in unser Auto und der kaputte Fuß konnte sich ein wenig ausruhen. Nach ungefähr 45 Minuten gingen wir dann in Richtung Grünberger Str., Gabriel Max Straße und trafen den Demonstrationszug dort wieder. Hier bekamen wir mit, das es wohl schon einige Festnahmen gegeben haben soll und an er Ecke Simon-Dach Straße, Grünberger Straße wurde die Demonstration von den Veranstaltern dann aufgelöst. Ab jetzt zogen die Teinehmer alleine durch das Viertel und die Polizei war total von der Rolle. In kleinen Gruppen versuchte die Polizei die Teilnehmer daran zu hindern laut durch den Kiez zu ziehen. In Mitte der Niederbarnimstraße gab es dann die ersten Reibereien zwischen Demonstranten und der Polizei. Die Polizei versuchte zu verhindern das die Leute zu Frankfurter Allee durchkamen. Nur sie versuchten mit ca. 20 Schergen ca. 150 Menschen aufzuhalten. Das ging nach hinten los und sie mussten sich zurückziehen. Nachdem die Verstärkung da war gab es in der Boxhagener Straße Rangeleien zwischen Kleingruppen der Polizei und von Autonomen. Die Polizei schien mir völlig planlos denn sie liefen immer wieder in Kleingruppen durch die Gegend und man hatte das Gefühl sie wussten nicht was sie machen sollten. Irgendwann kam dann die “große” Verstärkung und wir gingen dann in Richtung unseres Autos.

Red apples are a challenge to paint, color variation and dark darks are key in getting them to look shiny and appealing. Palette I’ve used here is burnt umber, alizarin, yellow ochre, cadmium red, cadmiun barium yellow, cobalt blue, king’s blue and titanium white. While this painting has a predominance of warm tones, there are cools in the highlights, background and shadows to balance the warmth and provide contrast in temperature. Underpainting was done in burnt umber to establish strong darks, darkest reds were acheived by mixing alizrin with the burnt umber. I’ve used the cadmium red sparingly, always mixing it with some yellow ochre or some alizarin to make it richer and less “out of the tube red”. I’ve also used white very sparingly, while it is difficult to see on the digital photo, the highlights have a cool cast to them from the addition of king’s blue and a bit of alizarin to the white. I’ve almost completely avoided using any white in the colors on the fruit skin itself. The overal goal of this piece was to create a fresh, spontaneous rendering of the fruit as opposed to a formal still life. Details are included but placed quickly and confidently to imply their presence rather than to complicate the painting and change it’s overall feeling to one of photographic representation.

Definitivamente não vou conseguir fazer todas como eu queria (uma pré produção no formato definitivo). Só rolou de fazer isso com poucas, e a grande maioria vai ficar voz + violão + comentários.

Espero dentro de poucos dias anunciar coisas definitivas sobre a gravação do meu primeiro disco, mas vamos com calma, afinal de contas são tantos (5) anos esperando… eu aguento, você… nem se fala.

Mas as coisas estão se arrumando, e hoje consegui tirar do estudio mais uma “demozinha”.

Unity has a great terrain editor that allowed me to put this demo together very quickly. I’m trying to create a sense of isolation and vulnerability, and will be adding some derelict buildings into the mix next.

The beginning of a new piece, much will be based on the acrylic study I did yesterday in terms of color. Will next block in transparent color to establish the balance in the composition. The bright orange construction sign presents challenges in the respect that it is so vibrant in color. Bits of bright orange will be placed throughout the comp to balance it and keep it from becoming too dominant. Much more to come…

This is a quick study of Morristown for a painting I have just started in oil. The study is acrylic used transparently like watercolor on paper, along with a bit of pastel thrown on top. Focus was on color harmony and gesture, sort of a trial run to get accustomed to things before starting in on the real thing. Will emphasize the blues and oranges in this, as well as giving it a warm feeling despite the rainy weather. Lots of motion/movement in this one from repeating shapes, strong angles. It will be an exciting piece to work on, hopefully the end result will match that in feeling.

I found this old demo over at The World Forgot a few weeks back, and have been playing it pretty heavily recently, especially given my recent obsession with all things Julian Casablancas. I absolutely adore Phrazes for the Young, but still prefer my Julian in Strokes form, especially on this absolutely stunning demo the band released on their myspace way way back. This stripped down demo, which mimics “You Only Live Once”, reveals the band in their simplest and most vulnerable form. I long for another Strokes album, but until then Julian’s new work, and this beautiful track, will have to do.

The Pixies opened their Los Angeles shows this month by playing Louis Bunuel’s 1929 surrealist film Un Chien Andalou. The movie inspired Debaser, the opening song on the classic Doolittle (played in its entirety for three shows at the Aragon starting Thursday).
